Maybe Sunday was an odd day for a few people. I had a headache all day. I barley did a thing the whole day. Not really good, but that's how it goes. How did your ride go today?

I had a very nice Saturday and a kind of weird Sunday. I'm a bit moody the past two days, so I'll chalk it up to that.

I'm going riding after work today, and I'm excited about that. Well, kind of excited. I'm working hard to improve my mood today!!

Hope you are all enjoying your Monday!!

Hope everyone had a wonderful week-end. Our weather warmed up again for a few days. Makes it nice to be outdoors.

Heather, glad to hear your riding is improving!

Oh, boy, it's been a few weeks! The weather here in NJ has been pretty darn nice for the fall. The cold is coming, but no snow yet, so that's good!!

Hi all!! I haven't been able to ride for two weeks. First the mare had shots and her neck was sore, then some kind of hormone problem, then I have had to work like crazy this week. Hopefully next week I'll get to see her and ride!!

That's interesting because our Summer wasn't as hot compared to what we usually get. Weather Channel said California is going through a cooling trend.

Sure is quiet around here. . . . I am hoping that since it is now officially fall that the weather will start cooling off and I can get in more saddle time. . . . this has been the hottest year and it's been rough on me!

Indoor arena would be fun. We don't have one either. But then I live on the west side of the U.S., our weather isn't as drastic.

I would give almost anything to have an indoor riding arena, or even access to one! Create some obstacles, if you are riding with others, do some type of game, something to make it a challenge, and keep your horse thinking!

I need to get my rear in the saddle, I have an all women's riding "thingy" in a little over a week, and my horse needs some tuning before then! Urgh!!!

Ya'll have a great day!

It is raining here in North Central Wisconsin too. Tuesday is our trailer up day so I am pouting. I think it has rained the last three Tuesdays in a row. Got in a nice 2 hour trailride with girlfriends yesterday and then played in the Arena for a half hour. Felt good, no Great. I have no excuse not to ride because I board and there is a very nice indoor arena, but it just is not the same. Any one have any ideas on how to make riding in the arena more fun?

It is a rainy East Texas morning and I'm not complaining! I am at work any way, and we need the rain on the hay fields BAD!!! If we don't get some much needed rain we are going to have to buy hay; not good!

I haven't got in any saddle time, I have got in some bareback time, LOL!!! Nothing to really matter, but hey, it's fun! I am hoping to get into a routine of riding my horses that need to be rode. DH rides the young ones, and he needs to get back on our filly. Maybe we can do some riding this weekend, I think the forecast is calling for rain, I will take it either way since it is supposed to be a few degrees cooler.

What are ya'lls goals for Sept?

Mine is to get below 140 and stay there! Plus saddle time of course!

Wow, seems everyone has the same story....horses need riding and some nice August weather (unusual in KS). I NEED to ride, NEED to get back on track and NEED some accountablitiy. I would like to loose this weight and feel better. I work nights and it is hard enough as it is without feeling heavy and worn out.

Tx. Pat - were you typing over my shoulder?? I've got a mare that needs saddle time and a gelding that needs tuned back up, and oh yeah the stallion, he needs work too... Got a good ride in on Sunday on the reining mare, after some baby steps we got a clean smooth 3/4 turn on the hind qtr!! wahOO!! Baby spins! Calm head, no fuss, loaded up the hind end and there she went.... Needless to say, I patted her and bailed off to loosen the cinch and be done on a VERY GOOD note. Hoped to ride this week, but its gone already and I'm hoping for early Sat. AM... cuz the weekend's booked solid.

Wooo Hoooo, the weather is cooling off and I am hoping to get in some saddle time! I actually rode our two-year old filly the other night bareback for about 10 minuets . . . . the one that fell on my DH and broke his ankle the 2nd time he rode her. She hasn't been rode since.

My husband has to get back to riding her and I need to get back to riding my gelding, plus another gelding that I need to get some saddle time in on so that I can sell him. Then there is our stud, he also needs to be rode; while two weanlings need to be halter broke.

Wow, now that I see it in writing I have a lot that needs to be done at the barn. I hope to get some of them cleaned up and new pictures taken so that I can put them on my website and then share the URL.

Ya'll have a great day!

Don't know 'bout you, but we use the 117 rule at our ranch. Humidity plus temperature less then 117.... well ok maybe 110, if we are feeling wussy. But we live in the High desert of So. Cal., so there's usually a block of 4 to 6 hrs from 11:30 to 3 or 4 that is just too hot to move outta the cooler. Even my hubby has adopted it as a walkinghiking rule for himself.

We've got a fire about 10 miles due West of us, off of Big Pines Hwy and Largo Vista. Its about 40% contained, and about 100 acres so far. CH. 7 is giving great coverage, we are not in any danger yet.

Blessing and prayer to all workers/homeowners and stock.

I hear you guys on the heat! I live right outside Las Vegas and it is HOT HOT HOT. I finally went riding around 6:45pm last night and it was gorgeous. It felt so good to be back in the saddle in nice weather. I hadn't ridden much at all this summer due to an injury and I've felt like something was missing and now I know that riding was it! I can't wait for Fall to get here so I can finally ride during the day and not have to worry about heat stroke for the horses or myself. Happy riding~

The only place I know that has been cool is Anchorage Alaska. We just got back from a months visit with my daughter and it didn't get much above 60 the whole time. THEN we came home to the east coast and started to swelter. Stay cool everyone and hand in there fall will be here all to soon.

Morning Team!

Wow, I cant believe that other places are hotter than here in Texas! The weather in Texas is supposed to be in the upper 90s for the rest of the week and then getting back up to 100 next week; not good for running! We did get some rain yesterday, it was nice, cooled things down a bit, yet now its pretty humid this morning!

Ya, its hard to get those out of shape horses out there and work them and then prevent them from having colic or like ya said a heat stroke! I have rode a couple of times this summer, and took it easy on my horse! I have one that need to be ridden bad, should have done it late yesterday afternoon and I sat on my bum instead! Oh well, neither of us will get in shape if I keep doing that!

Hope everyone has a great day!

It's really hot here in Alabama. The heat index has hit 105-110 almost every day. Too hot for me to want to ride, and way to hot to get on an out of shape horse that hasn't been ridden in a long time. Maybe one excuse is as good as another, but riding is supposed to be fun, and I can't see much fun about me and my horse having a heat stroke.

August is supposed to be hotter than July.

Oh, help!

SHELLYBEL456 ~ The pictures of your niece that you text me were too cute!!! Glad ya had fun with her!

Sure hope that everyone else is having a great day! Its hot and dry here, typical Texas weather for July, I just wish we could get a little rain, because the hay fields sure need it! We really need to get at least two more cuttings to be able to carry us through the winter!

Dont know much else . . . . yall have a good one!

SHELLYBEL456 ~ Awesome for getting back in the saddle . . . sound like your daughter is a lot like my husband, I never ride to please him.

Not much is happening around here . . . its just hot, too hot to do anything outside without becoming soaking wet from sweat! I need to find time to work in some riding on two or three of my horses; its just that they are as out of shape as I am, and are sweated down also! Urgh!

Im afraid that my attitude is not good today, had a rough night w/the hubby last night and Im frustrated! Id better get back to work, yall have a great day!

Morning, today is my friday!!! At least from my day job . . . I have to take off work tomorrow to carry three horses to the vet and move 5 horses around between pastures! Then have to go and get feed! I am hoping to get most of it done before the Texas heat sets in for the day!

I have a total of 13 horses now . . . 7 of them bred to foal next year!! Ugh!!!

Ya'll have a great day!

If you are getting her feet done monthly, the frog is staying soft!

I do know that when my gelding is tender footed after a trim, we don't do shoes, I put a mixture of half iodine and half phemaldehyde on his feet and they are hard with in a couple of days! You will have to get the phemaldehyde from a vet.

We like a natural foot, and have our farrier not trim off too much sole when he does trim our horses. It helps build up like a callus on the bottoms of their feet.

Hope this helps, sorry she didn't foal. . . yet you said she has milk? Have you had her vet checked lately; make sure that something is not wrong, and also to make sure you don't need to have her flushed out.

My horse is very tender on his feet during the hot summer months. He also has a tendency to throw a shoe very quickly. I stopped shoeing him and bought a set of boots for him. They were expensive but now I just put them on when I am riding during the summer months, he goes barefoot in the pastures and I am not having to shoe him all the time. My farrier loves the boots because I am not calling him to reset shoes all the time. I have used the same set of boots for several years and overall have saved money

My daughter is the rider. It is her 2nd year showing, with fair season starting we are at the barn almost every day lately.

The weather is beautiful here after weeks of raining every few days so we unloaded hay twice this week. That on top of Zumba once and Boot Camp once, I am pooped tonight.

Next horse show is Saturday, tomorrow we'll be back practicing, prep and packing again, but tonight we relax.

I've been really bad this spring. Between the rain and the wet ground, I haven't worked horses nearly as much as I should have. But...I can't change any of that. This week I've been doing great. I've been getting at least an hour in the saddle each night after my hubby gets home. It's hard to work horses with Kenzie. I would love to get more time in...but with my schedule it just isn't possible. It is making me look forward to the weekends when I have time to work all 4!

How often do ya'll get to ride?

I went feed-lot sorting last Friday night, and haven't rode since. I have 4 horses that I need to be riding and haven't rode a one of them this week! I can't seem to keep my rear off the couch.

Horses can be so much fun, and so much work in the same sentence!!! Ya'll have a great day!

Hi all! I'm going to the barn in about a half hour to see my sweet mare. OK, so sometimes she's not so sweet, but I love her just the same and I'm very anxious to be done with work and down at the barn!!

Wow, your two-year old is breed good!!! You can't beat a good cowhorse! That is what we breed mostly! I would like to cross my stud on a running mare, and get me a barrel horse prospect, yet my hubby doesn't feel the same!

We are trying to get a website up and running, it's just taking longer than I thought!

Good luck with starting your colt!!

That's awesome! You are definitely going to be busy next year! I love when you get some color, and being able to advertise that your stud will throw the color is going to be great for you! I have a little cow horse colt too! He is just a two-year-old this year and just getting ready for his first ride hopefully here in the next few weeks. He is out of a stud by Nu Reminic Chex and a daughter of Reminic and his dam is a Colonel Freckles. I just love the instinct that the cow horses have.

Dang it's HOT!!! Afraid it's only gonna get hotter!

Got the hay baled on Saturday, thank goodness!!! Now we just need some rain so we can get a second and hopefully third cutting. We are gonna need it this year with 13 horses!!!

I raise mainly cow ponies!!! My stud is a grandson of Shining Spark! We haven't showed him, just rode him and done a little feed lot sorting on him. He has a wonderful temperment! We had his first foal this year, and I think she is going to be a Palimino, which is even better that he throws some color!!! I have a total of 12 horses right now, with 7 due to foal next spring.

Ya'll have a great day!

Good Luck with cutting hay! I don't know how the weather has been there...but here in Colorado we are hoping it will stop raining long enough to dry up.
What discipline of mares do you breed?

I hope everyone is doing great, the weekend was nothing but work for me, as usual . . . then Im afraid at some point this week are going to cut and bale hay, that in itself is one heck of a work out!

I am thinking if we are able to do it during the week, I am going to try and relax some this coming up weekend! Try being the main word there. When ya have as many horses as we do, you dont get to relax much! I think I have one sold, which is great. Plus I am almost finished breeding, which will be good. I know its really too late to be breeding right now, but DH refuses to feed them empty.

Yall have a great day!
