Kris - Remember I live where the story "broke" lol and know all the details.

When the "rescue" commenced the dog was on a ledge in the basin and ONLY when they started trying to "help" the dog did he go into the water. I am guessing to avoid the people who were trying to "rescue" him.

I understand helping the dog but considering we were in the middle of quite a storm, I think that the city's resources could have been better served with a smaller response and have achieved the same results.

The woman who owned the dog did not realize he and another one of her dogs got out and it was the first time that they have ever gotten loose.

btw, I don't think that you'd let either GiGi or Daisy get out!

Hi Linda....I remeber reading your blog a couple weeks ago....when I ran across this article today I didn't realize it was the same piece that you were talking about emoticon

In the article it says that the dog had a collar so they assumed it wasn't a stray and they feared that the owners may see it and try to rescue it themselves which could cause even more hardship.

I would assume the public outcry generally has something to say in these situations cuz if their are enuf upset tax payers and voters calling in that this dog was soon to die most cities will do something about it....if nothing else they do it for their image to get a good human interest story out of it.

I know I would expect ANYTHING and EVERYTHING to be done for me if it was one of my girls emoticon

It was sooo difficult to see him struggle when he was being helped! Poor little guy!

I always wish they would provide followup stories as to how they are now too.

I live in Orange County and ALL the news we get is LA based. At the risk of offending some people... The LA Fire Department made a FULL scale rescue complete with a helicopter for that pooch and they did not know at the time if it was a stray or not and not in eminent danger.

Now I am not saying that the dog should not have bee saved but not a FULL SCALE RESPONSE.

The "rescue" was on the TV for over an hour! i guess it was a slow news day.

btw, I did blog about it if anyone is interested:

I give those guys that come down on those ropes out of the helicopters a lot of credit.

I'm glad that they got him out and found the other family dog too, so nothing bad happened to it.
