Angel does fake sneezes when she wants to go outside. She rarely sneezes for any other reason.

My little Banjo had an episode or two of that reverse sneeze thing; I thought it was asthma. When he first did it, I took a video and emailed it to our vet--Dr. Straughn, who, by the way, is just about the greatest vet in the world. She responded in about 15 minutes and explained that it was nothing to worry about. She also took out a little tumor from his rump a couple of months ago, which turned out to be nothing serious. If any of you live in central Alabama, I can recommend her, she's at North Shelby Animal Hospital, wonderful woman.

English? What do I need that for? I'm never going to England!

OMG totally off topic but does anyone else just die laughing when that Pedigree commercial comes on TV or pops up here - you know the one with the doggies with dentures lol.

I literally rewind and play it 2 or 3 times each time I see it.

Yeah my 3 do the reverse sneeze thing. Lily is the worst, it takes so much for me to calm her down and get her to stop. Taco and Buddy have actually backed off on having these attacks but Lily has at least 2 or 3 a week. She always comes running to me when it happens, almost like she's asking me to make it stop :( poor baby. Taco and Buddy just stand still and I have to go find them and try to calm them down.

A reverse sneeze is when they get a spasm in their larynx and they snort air forcefully IN (not out). They can stiffen up and its quite loud...and scary too if you're not used to them! They are pretty common in small dogs and are usually quite harmless. One trick that tends to work is to gently blow in their face. Rubbing their throats can help also. :)

Kris - I would have loved to see the expression on your face when Daisy sneezed on you. LOL! I bet it was priceless!

The only one of my pack that sneezes on a regular basis is ZuZu although her and Chica have issues the reverse sneezes. The technical term for those is pharyngeal gag reflex. Small dogs especially pugs are prone to that because of their short snout.

btw, all three girls love burping in my face. After having their meal they come up to me to get some lovin and shortly thereafter will burp. It is rather funny.

Get out! Reverse sneezes? This sounds like what Killer gets and I didn't know what it was either! And of course he'll never do it at the vet, and it's sorta hard to replicate yourself. emoticon

I usually just rub his throat. Most times it seems to help.

Jean....yeah that reverses sneeze is always scary...Daisy does it daily....some of my neighbors call her a little pig cuz it's an actual guttural snort that she emits over and over...poor thing.
It still scares me at times too as it seems to go on longer at times but my vet says its ok as long as she can get it clear. I have to wonder though ...what do I do if she really doesn't get it cleared some time you know?

It is usually when she has a burst of activity, running....she just ends up stopping to gasp a little and then she goes right back in to it.

I have that reverse thing too (well some of my dogs do- LOL). It was scarey until you knew they were ok. I've tried all sorts of things. The best luck I've had is to hold them and gently pet them or rub their tummies to soothe them- that seems to generally calm it down. Not always but most times. Kris- too funny. My guys now and then "get" me when we're in bed, but never with more than a few "spritzes" of moisture! Snuggles sneezes when she smiles- she walks toward you- smile, sneeze, smile, sneeze, smile.....

I have never heard Issy sneeze. But my Abi has what is called reverse sneezes. Pugs have this problem too. It is almost like they are heaving but in a strange way. It looks very painful and it scared me so bad the first time she did it as a puppy that I became hysterical cause I thought that she was dying. It seems to help sooth her when I use the shhhhhhh sound to her really softly.I feel so bad for her when it happens.

LMBO! Kris aren't our furry loved ones the best? Now when you have a 100 pound part hound dog come over and sneeze on you or even just put his head on your knee leaving behind the worst slime known to man behind then come and talk to me lol.

emoticon WOW, that got my attention. Makes me think my Ricky is the most well behaved guy in town. He has been sneezing lots with all the pollen in the air. BUT, thankfully no surprises flying my way. Sorry bout that Kris.

I did not know dogs can get sinus infections. I'll keep an eye on him.

THANKS for the TIPS.

Oh no! That's...unfortunate, Kris. emoticon

I know what you mean about surprised at what comes out -- Killer's had that, plus some nosebleeds, so we actually had to go to the vet last week. Who knew dogs could get the equivalent of a sinus infection!

Ok...we all sneeze from time to time....and we all sneeze that one type of sneeze where you are appalled at what comes out right?

Today Daisy got me with one of those! On the face no less! It had a huge sneeze chunk of who knows what kind of mysterious substance!!!!

I could feel it sliding down my cheek so I went to the nearest mirror to check it out...then I washed and re-treatmented my face for the day!

Stinker! emoticon
