You're right Eileen. They can never be replaced, but a new one can bring you new joy.

Pooka is doing fine, still not where she needs to be "platlet-wise" so will continue on same meds for another 3 wks. Then back to the vet we go... More $- emoticon but at least she's getting better. Being the 3rd trip in to get "poked" with needles when we walked thru the door she started to slightly "shiver/shake". Toward the end tho, once the needle part was over and she was receiving LOTS of attention she was her old self again, assuming that all attention was HERS and she was the queen on the countertop! A VERY large great dane came in, but she totally ignored him, just looked expectantly at all comers for the accolades due her! LOL!

Thank you Marilyn. No way can she be replaced but another companion will ease the sorrow.

Will be awaiting the health report tomorrow for Pooka. Hoping all is going well.

Caught up on the thread and glad that Pooka seems to be through the worst, Carol. Here's hoping that continues for sure.

To the others who have lost your special babies, my heart sincerely goes out to you. No one will want to be near me when it is Oliver's time to pass on - he is so special to me - as your babies are to you. So I know you "get" it.

Hugs, Peggy

Carol, I am so glad to see that Pooka is doing better. Please forgive my lateness in expressing myself. I have been a little MIA since Angel passed away. I still cry and miss her so. There are days I just can't visit with you all. Right now we don't have another one but will be looking in the spring.

Angie, I am so sorry for your loss. I know the feeling all to well. Take care and know I am thinking of you both.

Carol, I'm so glad to hear this news about Pooka!

Thank you so much for all your thoughts and words of encouragement about losing Killer. I'm still really raw but plodding along the best I can.

Very best,
Angie

Yes, definitely better (more bloodwork). She was NOT happy that instead of breakfast she got to go get "needle-poked"! Her count is up a bit and so she will stay on steroids for at least several months- then we'll hope we can wean her off them.

Heard from the vet. She definitely is anemic, another checkup tomorrow. May be just that her blood cells are attacking themselves (white/red). Steroids are supposed to help I guess. She's on those. Will see what happens tomorrow. For now she's nearly normal again, eating, tail up, trotting outside. And being her "lazy" self- ok with me. :-)
Thanks for your concern everyone.
Giranimal- (sorry, I don't know your name)- I've been thinking of you and your loss of your baby. He was some dog to live so long.

I'm glad to hear that Pooka is doing better. I am sure your diligent hydration efforts and especially your TLC are working wonders. Waiting to hear what the blood work says!

Thanks so much. She seems better again today. She wagged her tail and actually "trotted" outside. For her that's almost a gallop! (She's a VERY lazy girl!) Unless the vet finds something in the bloodwork I am hoping we are past the worst- and the cause may remain a mystery. I don't care as long as she recovers.

The TLC sounds like it would be a major help, plus I am praying for Pooka!

Oh wow! Yeah I can totally understand the whole brain overload thing. I get that way when I see the doctor let alone my babies!

I think you have the right idea with keeping her hydrated.

Let me know what the vet says tomorrow.

Vet had "ideas" but without the bloodwork (comes back tomorrow) and since our babies can't tell us where it hurts, it was all guesswork. She's on steroids and got a shot to help rehydrate her. The eye thing worried the vet as it could be a brain issue. She was anemic, had a bruise on her chest and so there was/is worry that she could have internal bleeding for some reason. Low blood platelets, but at least she had them. By the time the vet got done talking I was just totally confused- brain overload! All I know is- keep "stuffing" the liquids down her so she doesn't dehydrate! That's my main concern right now- all I can do for her other than let her sleep to try and recoup her energy.

Carol - So sorry to hear Pooka is not feeling well. Did the vet say what it could be?

I hope all of your efforts make her even better tomorrow :)

Pooka is my little tan girl, we have no idea what is wrong, but I'm crossing my fingers she's getting better. She actually ate most of her bowl of food on top of the canned/liquidy stuff I've been (mostly) syringing into her. She likes not even having to make the effort of lapping it up! But her tail was higher/up when she went out today, she's more alert, and her eyes are much better. They were not dilating at all yesterday at the vets, and she was squinting them nearly shut, tearing, and mucusy at the corners. She could not have looked more miserable. They look normal today and they were dilating again yesterday afternoon. I've been very diligent with getting liquid down her to keep her from dehydrating. I think all the TLC is helping. Crossing my fingers...
