Back in the mid 90's, I studied Kyuki-Do, which is a combination of TKD, Hapkido, and Judo with the local park district. When that class closed, I got out for a while. Now I have been studying an Americanized version of Tang Su Do. I train at Hidden Path Arts in Marengo, IL.

I train at Illinois Martial Arts Academy. Goshin Jujitsu and American Karate/Kickboxing are at the heart of the curriculum, however it also consists of techniques and concepts originating from the arts of Boxing, Judo, Kali and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

It is a great time for me and my son.

Hello everyone, I'm new here. I am studying Kong Shin Bup Hapkido in Burlington, Ontario. I have been doing this for about 9 months and am currently a yellow belt. It is fairly difficult for me at my current weight but I'm working on it ^_^ and I'm enjoying the classes.

I'm 45 years old and started as a youngster in TKD, after a absence of a few years and a very bad car wreck I started to study Japanese Guju Ryu at the age of 17, since then I have studied all over the USA in many styles including Mong Su Dom Tia, Traditional Tang Su Do and now I am taking up Shotokan(go Machita you da man). I kick boxed for many years and have started to train again but a bit over the hill to compete with the youngsters these days.

Our dojo, Combined Force Martial Arts, (Previously Iron Eagle Martial Arts) has gone through some management changes over the past several months. We now offer Shotokan Karate, Judo, MMA, Kickboxing, and Wing Chun. I've dabbled in all of these, but my passion is Wing Chun.
I've also been given the opportunity to teach yoga at the dojo.

Shaolin, in Johnson City, TN. I was out of it for many years, just got restarted back in November, so although I'm technically a brown belt, I'm still relearning some of the lower material.

Hello to you all!
I've been practicing kung fu for seven years now, my style is Choy Lay Fut. It's an important part of my life nowadays. I've been studying to be a teacher... but you all know, this really requires a hard work.
Is there anybody else from Choy Lay Fut here?

Yes Kajukenpo is an off shoot of Kajukenbo
The founder of kajujenpo, Al Gene Karulia was a brown belt in kajukenbo when he took 1st place in a black belt division world martial arts tournament. He was awarded a 1st degree black belt from another organization, and decided that he wanted to go off on his own. He basically just changed the B to a P there was some significance in the change but I don't remember what it was.

FILKENJUTSU. Basically, Kenpo Mixed Martial Arts. Sensei Bill, I noticed you do KAJUKENPO. This is in our lineage as well. :-) Edited to add: Actually, KAJUKENBO is in our lineage, but I'm assuming KAJUKENPO is at least descended from that?

I'm in Oak Ridge, TN.

I have other martial arts in my background, but I really love what I'm doing now.

When we lived in the USA (Southern California), I took tai chi classes with Coach Woody Wong in his martial arts school in Ardacia. Woody Wong is very well known in the Wu Shu world. I learned the Yang short 24 move form well, so now that we live in a small rural town in Taiwan, I practice that on my own each morning. Our 3 kids took Wu Shu classes with Coach Woody Wong for 3 years, and leaned a lot, but there is no martial arts school in our town, and no classes. Rather than have them forget what they learned, I have got some Chinese DVDs for them that have mostly the same moves they learned in class, and the kids practice in a large empty room on the 3rd floor of our 4 story house here. Since they were nervous upstairs on their own, I have been practicing Wu Shu with them, and really like it a lot. I wih we could find a local teacher, but no luck so far as this is a farming community with a few factories scattered around.

I study American Kempo in Aurora. The classes are offered through my local rec. center, as my instructor is just getting his school started. I've been actively studying since January. My son started in August of last year, and helping him is what got me interested.

Well, he's almost 20 years old and you would think he would have been a bit more grown up by now...in contrast, school owner is 24 and is LIGHT YEARS more mature than my son but I guess managing a business for the past 8 years and OWNING your own business for the past 5 will force you to grow up as well...

Don't misunderstand me...I love my son dearly but I would prefer an easier life for him than the one he is choosing right now...just have to hang around in the background and pray he gets his head on straight one day and be available to pick up the pieces if he falls, right?

Take care,
Donna

Well I hope you feel better soon. It's ok to put everything else before you training..I also put my health infront of my training. I did hear about you son, you told us all about it. He needs to learn what has done, grow up and become mature. There's no chances on getting him back into training after 10 or so years right??

Hi there BULLET!

Yes, it will be for my 4th Degree Black Belt. I have had a very rough past 6 months or so...alot of sickness, stress, and business things going on at the school that has take away from my own training...excuses I know but I'm the type of person to put others before myself and there are a number of things on my plate right now that have become a higher priority to me than my own training unfortunately. But I hope to get back on track soon...as soon as I get rid of yet ANOTHER sinus infection (weather has been CRAZY in east Tennessee these past couple of months)...and start focussing on my task ahead. When...and if...I pass my next testing I will get a black "racing stripe" that will be placed down the side of my uniform to indicate I have reached at least 4th degree black belt...will look rather nice with the black "racing stripe" I received when I passed my certification test for instructor! My son unfortunately has dropped out of training/instructor program at our school...won't bore you with the details but he made some rather dumb decisions and burnt bridges between himself and the school owner so he's really not welcome here any more (except when I'm down on my instructor staff and desperate for help...usually on Thursday nites...and then he will come out but only because the owner isn't in the building cuz he really won't talk to my son anymore and only tolerates him because he thinks so highly of me!) so when I pass my next rank, it will be the first time in over 7 years that my son and I AREN'T the same rank which will be very sad and weird for me I'm sure...oh well, I'm not going to put my own life/training on hold while I wait for my son to grow up... emoticon ...

Hello, all. Just curious what the make up of martial arts practitioners we have on the team. I currently practice Wuzuquan kung fu in Jacksonville, FL, under Sifu Kam Lee. I have also practiced Chen style taiji. I have practiced shotokan in the past, but probably have a bias toward chinese martial arts. How about you?
