I am still in training so to speak...I can not stand corn tortillas WHEW thanks about the tip concerning tacos.

Tortillas are high in carbs and they are fried....a better choice would be Walmart's Great Value taco shells...2 are only 16 carbs and 120 calories......they have calcium, no cholesterol and no sugar.

Refined flours get absorbed quickly into the bloodstream and can cause a spike. Just one 10" flour tortilla is 173 calories and 33 grams of carb.

See the difference? Wheat can also spike blood sugar in some people so you are better off toasting rye bread. Stuff the tacos with black beans chopped green peppers, lettuce and Giardiniera...mild or hot for a pleasant veggie meal.

We purchased some whole wheat tortillas and later noticed that they have more carbs than white flour ones, not to mention corn tortillas.

What's the story on tortillas for us trying to lower our carbs and flour consumption? Are they safe to eat in moderation?

I'm pre-diabetic and I posted that I'm doing good in lowering my sugar numbers and don't want to go back to bad eating habits. As a vegetarian, we are running out of options for meals that are low carbs and high in protein.
