Hello Everyone! I am fairly new to this team, but I have a question for you. I am working towards a goal of running a half in everyone of the 48 states in the continental US. Have any of you done a great race that you can suggest for me. Only states I don't need are Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota (already done). I love races that are well organized, decently priced, decent swag/medal is nice, but not a necessity. Let me know! You can send me a message if you would like too. Thanks!~

Anyone else running the Susan G. Komen Women's Half Marathon this Sunday (Nov 6th) in Phoenix?

It will be my 7th Half Marathon this year and I have raised $411 for Komen for the Cure.

I am going to be wearing pink ribbons in honor of those who have fought Breast Cancer. My plan is to wear 50 pink ribbons on my back (along with an honorbib for my step-mom.) I currently have 17 ribbons with names. Please feel free to include the names of your loved ones, if you would like me to add a name.

Happy Halloween! emoticon

I just signed up for another half (somebody stop me!) when I am supposed to be taking it easy and strenghtening my problem knee. I caught wind of this marathon and half that started last year during a father's quest to run 60 marathons in a year in support of this son with autism. It is the day after Christmas and run along a bike trail in Manhattan Beach, CA.
And I am sooo tempted to sign up for another local race on Nov 19th that is only like 40 bucks but I must pace myself...

So here is the rest of my year as far as halfs are concerned:

December 4 Las Vegas Rock N Roll Half
December 26 Operation Jack (half) Marathon

PR races:
Nov 26, 2011 - San Dimas Turkey Trot 10K (1:07:34)
Dec 26, 2011 - Operation Jack Half marathon (2:27:44)
April 1, 2012 - Carlsbad 5000 5k (29:17)

I am doing 52 half marathons in one year, from 5/1/11 to 4/30/12 as a race walker. I can't tell you how much fun I've had, from the people I have met, to the places I have seen. Some races have been really hard, and I have finished dead last a couple of times, but it's still better than sitting on the couch! So far in 2011 I have 37 half marathons (31 in my goal for 52 in 365). It's also been amazing watching my body change, my times get better, and seeing the same crazy racers again and again at other events.

I do this for my health and also for Medals 4 Mettle... I am one of their chapter coordinators and I am donating all my medals this year to them.

I am running my second halfmarathon this year on Sunday. But am feeling so unfit. Have not had enough time to train. But since I ran my personal slowest halfmarathon time ever in September in the Mwea International Marathon with 2hrs 30 minutes. I hope to beat this at least.... LOL Will be doing the run-walk-run with my gymboss, since it seems to work well for me, my joints hardly hurt after a long run, if i do that.

My next half marathon is Scheduled for October 29, 2011. I'm currently in my 3rd week of a five week training plan. I'm struggling....

Back Store:

I registered for the Irongirl Half Marathon that was scheduled for November 20 in New Orleans. Approximately three weeks ago I received an email notifying me that the event was cancelled. So I registered for the Jazz which is 4 weeks earlier. I had to start training immediately.

This will be my 3rd Half.

I haven't run a HM for two weekends in a row now and feel like such a schlump LOL. I do however have IMT Des Moines (IA) HM next weekend and Haunted Hustle HM two weeks after that just north of Madison, WI. Space Coast HM during Thanksgiving weekend will follow HH and then we start 2012! It is starting to appear that I MAY train for and hopefully run my first full marathon latter 2012. Who knew???!!!

I will be walking in my first ever 1/2 Marathon at the Disney Princess Marathon on January 7th 2012. I've never even imagined that I would want to do such a crazy thing. Until i met up with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training program. Now I am actually out there doing my miles and stiving for more. Something I never thought I would do, I love the team and all the encouragment that they give you.

I am hoping that I will be able to complete this major effort in my life. Wait no, I WILL complete this. emoticon

ssplawn- i'm sure you will just fine!
congrats to everyone!!!
sorry smuttynose was rainy, i did that one 2 years ago..nice course but it was very chilly the day i did it.i've been fortunate not to have run a 1/2 in the rain:)drizzle is ok but downpour-yikes!
think i'm done this year with 1/2s. thought of doing the all women+ 1 lucky guy in ma. this year, but opting out to do 2 local 5ks same w/e. too many races in same w/e! last year that 1/2 was in york, me and we made a w/e of it.
my next longest is in dec. and is a very hilly 10 m.
did a 10k sat. for my ymca. we got poured on in the beginning, drizzled on during and then poured on again at the end!
it was my fastest 10k, so i was pretty happy!

The majority of my Galloway running group will be running the Portland Half/Marathon this coming Sunday, Oct. 9, and I'll be there cheering them on. The evening before, we're having dinner with Jeff Galloway himself!

My next Half is a week later, the Girlfriends Half in Vancouver, WA, Oct. 16. I'm ready.

I ran my first half on Sunday. It was the Diva's Half Marathon which consisted of about 4,000 women. The race was relatively flat, the weather behaved and I enjoyed myself while running at a good pace. This was the perfect half to do as my first because there was lots of cool swag. We got boas and tiaras right before the last mile and at the finish line a shirtless firefighter put your blinged-out medal on you before you were handed a rose and glass of champagne. I'm thinking about running the half in this series in Puerto Rico next year.

I ran the Freedoms Run Half on Saturday. Beautiful course, but extremely difficult w/ lots of hills. It ran through Antietam Battlefield and on part of the C&O Canal. Rained almost the entire time, but didn't really notice the rain and cold till I finished, then I was freezing!

Not my best time b/c of all the hills, but I felt good almost the entire way and would definitely run it again! Finished around 2:20 I think.

Congrats to everyone else on their races!

Completed my first half-marathon today, doing the Mo' Cowbell event down in St. Charles MO today! The course was described as "pancake flat", but there turned out to be a couple of hills...nothing major though. Incredibly well organized and run (by Big River Running Company) with close to 1,400 participants!

Very happy with the results as I ran a tad faster than I trained (7:54 min/mile pace), finished 151st out of 1,407 participants and 21st in my age/gender group! Great sense of accomplishment crossing that finish line...and now, time for a little break from training!

Sorry the Smuttynose was wet, I ran the San Jose Rock n' Roll half this morning. Perfect running weather..I did decide I'm not a fan of the half and will stick to the 10K's-Fun was had until mile 8 and then it got hard. My running buddy who just finished 20th in the Ragnar Relay SF and is a lot faster also decided we'd stick with the 10K-We did notice a bunch of people having problems so I'd tell you to have fun and listen to your body, there is no point in getting injured at a fun run.We were hitting mile 6 when the top woman was on her final ascent-she was at that point about 59 minutes in, truly amazing to watch the elite runners do their thing!

I ran the Smuttynose Half in New Hampshire this morning. Beautiful course. It poured for the first half and then again just as i crossed the finish. It was a 'Rockfest' but there was no rock or fest with all of the rain. Bolted to the car to head back to the hotel for a warm shower..brrr the rain made it cold!

LOL that is great advice! Thanks! My sister in law is training with me on our long runs on weekends and I am running with a group on Tuesday morning working hills and speed and Thursday mornings working 5-6 mile runs. Then I sneak another 3-4 mile run in on Monday or Friday, depending on when I do my long run.

I'm really enjoying the training process tho!

Manda - I'll be there too, with someone doing her first 1/2. My advice? Train what you can train, do what you can do, and finish when you finish with a big smile so you'll look cute in the photos! WOOT!

Rosie, that is awesome about doing the half while pregnant!

I am training for the Route 66 Half Marathon in Tulsa, OK. My first half ever. I have never run more than 4 miles before I started training back in August. It has been fun. I have run 7.5 miles as my longest. I have about 8 weeks left to go before the race. Any pointers on diet and training?

Congratulations and congratulations, Rosie!

TREP - relax and have fun. This is supposed to be fun. If you're not having fun, then something's wrong. Oh, it's physically challenging and sometimes unpleasant, but if you're all stressed out and worked up, then you're just too serious about it. Enjoy the excitement, the crowds, the goodies, the positive energy -- all of it. Good luck!

Hi everyone,

I finished in 2:13:26 (10:12 pace), which was much faster than my goal time of 2:20. I felt great until mile 8 and really started to feel it at mile 11. Even if it wasn't pretty at the end, I made it!

Now that I'm almost 16 weeks along and my race is done, I promised my DH that I'd slow down the running. No more long runs of more than 8 miles, which is fine with me at this point.

Wishing you all continued success!
