From what I gathered from Ivory was that a protein drink would work just as well as the GC control. So I went and bought some protein powder to try it out. Nope did not work. I tried it for two nights in a row and morning BS was back in the 140's. Went back to the GC control and it is back down to 103. So for me I will stick with the GC control. Love and Light Carol

It was probably that cup of brown rice with the Chinese Food, a cup is a lot, and also the sauces often have sugar in them, so you have to really watch the rice to balance. I rarely eat rice anymore, and if I do, never more than 1/2 a cup

Thanks for all the input. Sometimes eating at night helps; other times it doesn't. On the days when I watch what I'm eating all day, especially focusing on vegetables and a small amount of fruit, it works out better. I haven't developed the discipline to do that all the time though. I'm pretty sure my doctor will want me to go on insulin the next time I see him. I'll probably ask for a referral to the endocrinologist before I do that though. If I don't have the discipline to follow through with diet and exercise, insulin is what it'll have to be.

What the heck is in Chinese food? I just looked at most of my post meal dinner readings of 1.5 to 2 hrs and they are below 130, and closer to 120. I had Chinese food tonight with 1 cup of brown rice. Just checked 2 hrs later and I'm at 160. I forgot to mention I am not on meds right now. I've been on & off metforman for years but the endo took me off last December to get an accurate read on my numbers without it. Until recently the numbers were the same on and off the drug.

Hi! I really appreciate this discussion because I have been doing an internet search for quite a while to get answers to this problem. In April an endocrinologist finally diagnosed me with Insulin Resistance. I actually figured that out years ago due to a sudden increase in weight, mostly in my gut, and no success losing weight.

All of my numbers have been creeping up these past few months. Some of my morning numbers are getting scary. From 105 to 114, one day it was 120. And my daily numbers before eating have gone from high 80s to 90s, up to low 100s. In general I'm around 120 a few hours after eating unless it's a really high carb meal.

I would very much like to know what others are doing to lower the fasting number. I tried cinnamon and it got higher. I read on-line that if the number goes too low during the night your body can actually pump out more glucose. I wonder if that is what was happening. Any insight would be appreciated.

I have been doing Intermittent Fasting since May and have lost 11 lbs. It is the 1st time in years that I have been able to lose weight. I just thought weight loss would help my numbers.

Thanks for any advice! SV

FYI - I'm your local biologist, so I decided to do some label reading. GC control is essentially a fiber and protein drink with a few added herbals including green tea and cinnamon that have been shown to help with blood sugar. It's certainly not dangerous, but it's probably not a cure-all either, and could possibly be replaced (for those who the cost is trouble or can't handle artificial sweeteners, it does contain splenda) with some fiber and protein and cinnamon capsules (which you can buy separately and people have seen good results with, including in scientific studies).

We've encountered the high morning fasting BG problem before, and the general scientific consensus is that is a hormone issue, your body reacts to the fasting by releasing sugar from the liver, which isn't dealt with due to the insulin-resistance. Typically, any small, well-balanced snack before bed will help your morning numbers.

On the other hand, if you like this, go for it. I just provide facts from a scientific standpoint.

You can get it on Amazon for $38.00. The company phone number is 1800-522-3172

My Friend Linda sends it to me. She get it from her friend. So I really do not know what the costs is. If you type in GC Control you can go to there site, and do a chat or call the number above. I have not yet because Lindas been mailing them two me I have two packages on the way This has less calories then glucerna and less carbs and sugars. I think it taste better too. I just mix it with one cup of low fat milk and I TBSP of the chocolate mix in a blender.

The shake is 100 calories and 6 carbs and 6 sugars. I do not use a whole scoop because then it is too thick for me so I get more shakes out of the package then what it says. I did not exercise today and my numbers have still been in the 90ls before meals. My husband is amazed. I would get upset at times where I ate a balanced meal and numbers would be higher then I thought they should be. I am just happy that the fasting numbers are really down. Love and Light Carol

Yes, please let us know where we can find it. I'm having a very similar problem--normal glucose except for the morning fasting. Would love to get it under control.

A friend who I met here at spark sent me GC Control powder that you make into a shake. Has any body else used this product. I have been using it the last week and it is really helping my fasting blood sugar test. Morning been running 103- 107. For the longest time mine were running 133-155 no matter what I did. have a snack before bed did not have a sanck before bed. The numbers would be up there. I believe I was having the dawn effect. I dirink one shake befor exercising and one before bed. The rest of the day eating normal balanced meals. BS before regular meals have been running 80-98. I have also been riding a bike every other day. Along with my regular exercise. Alls I know is I am a very Happy person. Carol
