I am sorry that you lost your streak, Brie. The important thing is that you are still losing weight and inches. Unfortunately, the Streak game is a distraction from the true mission at hand. Carry on. I'll stay the course as long as our internet connection remains.
The Spark trackers don't work well with our internet system. And I know that you have been frustrated with the technical aspects. The animated ads interfered with another member's eyes and she has quit SparkPeople as well. We have learned new habits that we can apply for the rest of our lives. I hope we all meet our goals whether we remain with spark or not.

We got our walking in at the VA facility. And you got a new walker/rollerator that will make it easier to get around with your back pain. I know that I can count on you to support my efforts to continue with Spark.

Goodbye folks, fare thee well. Yesterday, we got hung up in ElPaso, and I didn't have my computer with me, so I lost all of my streaks. I'm done, and can't do this any more, so I'm not going to even try any more. (By the way, in addition to constantly losing inches around my waist, apparently, I'm now losing so much fat, that in addition to losing another eight inches off my waist this month, I'm even losing weight too, at my Doctor's appointment today, I'm 8 pounds lighter, so it's NOT that I'm not making progress that I'm leaving, it's just the streak loss). I'm tired folks, and I'm not going to play the game anymore. I will continue to lose the inches, and now pounds at an accelerated rated rate, I just won't talk about it here anymore.

It is 97 degrees outdoors. When the sun goes down, Brie and I will venture outside to put wheels on the huge target stand we made. I might put a few more things in boxes. I want to clear out part of the den, so that I can set up my sewing machine.

I looked it up in SEVERAL Medical journals, and several studies, and it has a significant effect on the total cholesterol, (down), the "bad" cholesterol, (down), and the good cholesterol, (UP). It ALSO has NO effect on the Liver, as ALL the other Cholesterol drugs seem to have. It ALSO lowers Triglycerides.

I am on prescription strength Orlistat (Fat Blocker). I do not eat any fried meats, every meat that I eat is either flame broiled, baked, or boiled, and I eat zero pork, or fatty meat. I trim all the fat off my Steaks, to watch me work with a razor sharp Rapala fillet knife is quite something, I have been told. I know that the med. blocks a huge amount of the fat that I ingest, but I wonder what effect the meds have on the Cholesterol that my body can absorb.

It is really EASY to exercise AND have fun at the same time. It may not be normal exercise, as is done in a gym, or weight room, but it can be a ton of fun, and also burn quite a bit of fat as well. The FIRST thing that you need to do, is find something, that causes you to either "go Aerobic" for about an hour, or requires you to lift a useful amount of weight for a steady amount of time. The "fun" comes in, when it is something that you love to do. One of the things that my wife and I LOVE to do, (And we may be the only people here that enjoy this), is that we love to shoot in competition. Today, our Cowboy Action Shooting Club has a 3 1/2 hour shooting match. TEESTER2 and I volunteered to set / reset targets, and retrieve spent brass shells for the other competitors, for the length of the entire match. This involved jogging out the 50 yards to the steel targets, resetting them, and jogging back, after every competitor finished their stage. It also involved quickly bending over, and picking up the spent shell casings (50 to 80 per competitor per stage, three stages), and delivering to them at the unloading table. We had an ABSOLUTE BALL, and BELIEVE ME, at the end of the match, in strong sunlight, and 94 degree temperatures, it was quite a workout.

As for today, I had a cheese Omelette for breakfast at the local Cafe' but it DISAPPEARED from my favorites list on the tracker, so I just logged some Huevos Rancheros instead, close enough for "Government Work".
TEESTER2 and I don't do much "conventional exercises", but we are almost constantly working on one construction project or another here at the "Sky Ranch".
As a result, she has lost another three pounds, and I have lost another four inches on my waistline this week.

Ingrained perceptions can be VERY powerful things to break. Case in point. There are many people in this county of far west Texas, that grew up as children in the fifties, and late sixties, when the electric power conglomerates were pushing electric power, as the "New, Clean, Safe, and Modern" way to be. (Remember the all the "Clean, Flameless Electric Heat" commercials on T.V., and the print media that were pushing the concept of a very inefficient heat source as the way to heat the homes in America)? They also pushed electric stoves and water heaters as well, they didn't care about the inefficiency, that only made the power companies more money.
What all of this DID was inculcate what was then, the "next generation", with the mindset that people that did not have homes that were all electric, were to be pitied.
Fast forward to the last thirty years, when the children of the afore mentioned generation's kids started the Green movement, and now, many of"The Baby Boomers" truly pity those of us that CHOOSE to live off the grid, running our homes with renewable sources of energy. They seem to think that we are "too Poor" to be hooked to the grid.
TEESTER2 and I hear this in one form or another very often, from the "Gridders" as we like to call them.
Today was the 13th time that area around the local farming community has lost power. TEESTER2 and I were in El Paso all day, and we came home on the tail of a strong squall line. On our way home, we remarked, that we hoped that everyone didn't lose their power again.
It turns out that they did, and they are sitting in the dark, with no phone service, no computers, and no refrigeration, cooking, or heat.
A week from now, they will all be feeling sorry for us that did not lose a thing, because of our renewable power systems.

That brings me to all of my Spark Friends. How many of you still have the old "Clean Plate Club" mentality going off in your heads? It may be time to make a clean break from outmoded ways of thinking, that are holding you back from healthier living.

Spent another 2 hours doing Carpentry work on a Gun Carriage for my wife and I to transport our guns between the different stages of the Cowboy Action matches that she and I compete in every month. we still have another 4 or five hours before it will be completely finished, and put to use.
Tonight I celebrated by having REAL Texas Chili. (NO beans).

Sorry for being so busy, for the last three days, and yesterday being in such a hurt from my osteo arthritis, that I did not post. I had to dial back all of my physical activities for the last several days, even today, I only was on a light exercise schedule. Tomorrow, I will be back to about 80 percent, and will finally return to my "Hell for Leather" pace, on Tuesday. So tell me, how did the last several days go for you folks? I don't mean weight or inches lost or gained, how are you all feeling physically, and emotionally? Good, I hope.

Well, it's not just the nutrition tracker that is woefully incomplete, but the fitness tracker as well. Today, TEESTER2 and I will spend about 3 hours building a Gun Carriage that looks like an 1880's Stagecoach from scratch, to safely carry our guns from our truck to the start of the 3 gun Cowboy match, and then between the stages of the match, and once the match is over, and we collect our awards, from the site of the match, back to our truck. We will be building the cart from scratch, and the only things that truly describe what we are doing, would either be Woodworking, or Cabinet Making. GUESS WHAT'S NOT ON THE LIST. So to Hell with it, I just listed it as Construction.
CHEATING? Not really, we are the ones that are having to buy new pants every week or two, to keep the still new pants from sliding off our hips all the time. The same goes for the belts. As far as I am concerned, Suspenders are for old pot bellied men feeding Pigeons in the Park. They work, but I don't like what they say about me.

Late this afternoon, I installed the second RCBS Reloading Press on my Reloading Bench. Within a week, TEESTER2 and I should be "rolling our own" ammunition for the shooting competitions that we both take part in.

Today, TEESTER2 and I organized things that were in our Bedroom, Computer Room, and Reloading Room, (It's a 13 by 14 foot room, so we have the space). We packed up all the winter use stuff, rearranged the computer workstations, and packed everything into waterproof, and critter-proof containers, so that next week sometime, we will take everything to a climate controlled, guarded facility, where it will stay till the end of December. (We have VERY short winters here in far west Texas).

The Heavy frame that TEESTER2 spoke of was fairly unwieldy welded steel frame that was 2 1/2 feet wide, and six feet high, that she and I latched on to, and marched out 100 yards with in the far west Texas desert with. THEN we each grabbed an end of an all metal 8 foot long picnic bench, and marched it 25 feet to where we wanted it to be. EXERCISE is where you can find it,and if you can use it to also increase your fun, so much the better.
Once we got all that set up, we proceeded to sight in three lever action high powered rifles, that the two of us will be shooting in the next shooting competition.

At the Long Range Cowboy Action competition on Sunday, there were five of us that hit the target every time that we pulled the trigger. Ties for number of hits were decided by our times to run the course. There were four different classes of rifles that shot at the target, I entered three rifles in three classes, and won two Gold Medals, and one Silver Medal. A GREAT time was had by all the competitors.

It is fun to do these things, but I can't get accurate numbers. I've added four strength training exercises to build muscle so that I can help more efficiently, with these building projects.

TEESTER2 and I are finishing up the building of our ultra heavy duty target stand for our 36 by 24 inch grazing Bison steel target, that we will use for the 200 yard, iron sights only, Wild West Rifle competition. The target weighs 100 pounds. The competition will be Sunday morning, I'll let everyone know how we finish on the leaderboard Sunday night

HERE WE GO AGAIN . I have never seen anything so tough to use as the food tracker. My wife and I went to Denny's and each had the 55+ menu with Turkey Bacon, instead of the Pork. Forget the Turkey Bacon substitution, we couldn't find ANYTHING on the 55+ menu listed. My solution? I just logged my usual Huevos Rancheros instead.

My computer and the DNS server we use at home, are barely recognizing each other on Internet explorer, and not at all on Firefox. Very soon, I and perhaps Teester2 as well will be gone from here again, except when we are someplace in ElPaso, which will only be about once a week, just so everyone knows.

It is said that activity which does not accelerate your heart rate to aerobic levels cannot be counted as Intentional exercise, for the purpose of the 5% Challenge in which I am participating.
So I do it anyway, which adds to my uncounted exercise. I am the winner in any respect! Brie and I remind each other not to over exert, and now Brie is my spotter when I do my dumb bell work outs. We make a good team in every respect. Too many rules in these kinds of challenges. I doubt if I will join another.

Several years ago, I had a battery of tests done on me for my back pain at the Army Hospital. After two months of tests, they told me that I had Spinal Stenosis. and running was OUT of the question. They further told me that walking for half a mile tops would only further damage my spine. SO, faced with THAT reality, what did I do?? as soon as I could, I dug both my, and my wife's stationary bikes out where we both could use them, and we started riding together. We still are building on the house, but at a slower pace, we will NOT stop until the house is FINISHED. What has been the result of two 60 plus year old women both riding stationary bikes together, and limiting ourselves to between one, and two hours of Construction on the house? Our pants are falling off of us. Every six weeks, we need to drop a size, as we can't keep them on without cinching up a belt, (me), or adjusting the suspenders, (my wife).
Doing construction work on our retirement home may not count as "official" weight loss, but the results are obvious.
If you CAN'T lose inches one way, don't give up, find a different way.

TEESTER2 and I got up on the roof and did another hour of construction in spite of the 18 to 20 MPH winds. We would have gone longer, but we ran out of Deck Screws that we use in conjunction with the Simpson strong ties, to join the wood work. While we are waiting for lunch to cook, we did another 10 minutes on the stationary bikes.

Teester2 and I went on the 27 mile trip to The little farming hamlet that's closest to us, and met this woman who is in a wheelchair due to her severe Diabetes, among many other things. What should have been a quick Menudo breakfast, became an enjoyable three hour, Conversation with her, and one other lady. As a result, nothing was done on the roof today, and tomorrow will be spent with Teester2's doctor for a routine checkup. I kept the calorie intake right at our Minimum allowed for the day, We will each do some time on our stationary bikes, and tomorrow will be the same. Tuesday through Friday we will have 35 MPH plus winds, so we will do our work inside the house, instead of on the roof.

Today, we had five or six hours of errands that needed to be run, so there was no Construction done on the house. Do we fret about gaining 20 pounds each due to the much lower calorie burn for the day? NO, we just make an adjustment on the food intake side of the weight loss equation, by holding our daily food intake to 300 calories below the minimum suggested calorie intake for the day for each of us. NO "muss", no "fuss", no emotional drama, just balance everything out, on the other side of the equation.

I don't think it is possible to live in far west Texas, and not be able to build a level, plumb, wall in the wind. We framed up another 8 feet of wall on the second story of the house today, for the clerestory. It went up straight and square, in spite of working in 20 MPH breezes.

It was windy and 90 degrees but we got up on the roof and worked for two hours. We extended a three foot high wall another 8 feet along the roof.

We knew that we were going to have a "light" day today, exercise wise, so we took it easy of the food intake side. We did ten minutes each on the stationary bikes, in the morning, and then ate lightly through the day. I was 50 calories under my recommended minimum daily intake, but I am in great shape this evening. So is my wife.

My wife and I got up this morning, and we each saw progress in the best way that each of us can measure it. She weighed herself, and is NOW UNDER 200 pounds ! ! ! She now weighs 198 pounds. I still weigh pretty much the same, enough to be classified as "Obese" in the charts, (and will forever, because of my muscles), but my pants which were snug on me a month ago, are now falling off of me. I punched a new hole in my belt three days ago, and now, I can easily slide my hand up to my wrist between the belt and my waist. Time to punch a new hole or two in the belt. She is burning fat, while I am converting it into muscle. At some point in the future, the weight will pass a tipping point, and all of a sudden, just disappear. That probably won't be for another three to six months though, in all probability. This afternoon we will both be on the roof of the house continuing our construction of the second story.

I went to the food tracker, and typed in "Grilled Salmon" because TEESTER2 and I grill a LOT of our own food. ALL that came up, was "Grilled Salmon" from every restaurant, and fast food joint that I know of, but NOTHING where someone takes some wild caught Salmon Fillets, and sticking them over some Mesquite coals on a grill. After several minutes, I just clicked on Shoney;s Grilled Salmon, an it turned out to be 7 hundred something calories, which I KNOW is a BUNCH more than what we made here at home. I don't care, I just loaded it up anyway.

A day of important errands in ElPaso today. One of them was getting a climate controlled, guarded, storage room, for our stuff that needs to be moved for 6 months, while we move some of the construction back down on the ground floor. We spent 30minutes moving some fairly heavy boxes from the truck to the storage room.

BUILDING A HOUSE AND BUILDING MUSCLE
Thursday, April 13, 2017
Spent an hour and a half on the roof, most of it stretching and flexibility, and half an hour of hauling lumber around. We completed 8 feet of the stub wall which will support roof rafters. Here is a photo of Sabrina, (Taylorcraftbc65) establishing the corner of the structure.

After eating a World Famous Cornudas Burger at May's Cornudas Cafe, we came home and loaded the truck with boxes which we will move to storage tomorrow. Winter clothes, four tomes of stamp collection from around the world, (that box was close to 45 pounds) and an aquarium which we bought for the future - still in the box. I was looking at the tumbleweeds and dried grass which has gathered along the back fence. It is going to have to wait for another day, my back aches right now. Some of the narrow passages in the house required an uncomfortable twist in my back.
Brie and I will give each other back rubs before bedtime!

TEESTER2 and I did 2 hours of construction, and 40 minutes of moving heavy boxes, and stacking them in the pickup. Tomorrow, we will place them in storage till we finish the construction in that portion of the house.

Had errands in ElPaso to run most of the day, so did 30minutes of "mall walking" when we weren't getting things taken care of. Tomorrow, back on the roof.

Today the winds were forecast to be at 25 to 30 MPH and occasional gusts to 40 MPH, and the weather people at the local T.V. station did not disappoint. TEESTER2 and I climbed up on the roof, and installed the footer, and footer end plates for the 3 foot high stub wall, on the north side of the Clerestory. Just hanging on to everything, and not getting blown off the roof was a certain amount of work, but over the course of two hours, we started the construction of what will be a three foot high support wall for the 16 foot long 2X6 roof rafters over the master bathroom. The short wall in question, is bolted to the header of the load bearing wall between the Master Bath and the Bedroom. No gentle far west Texas breeze is going to defeat the two of us.

No need to worry, TEESTER2, I finished my power nap, and we went up on the roof, and finished stiffening up 32 feet of framing for the Clerestory that I designed to serve two purposes, Passive hot air heat generation in the winter, and year round wind power generation that is bird safe. I can't help it if we did this in only 90 something minutes. When I climb that ladder, I already have the entire job planned out. Once on site, we sit down and I explain the steps taken and the tools, and supplies needed to do quality work. We go to work, this time in winds that were running 30 to 35 MPH, no one got hurt, and we got the job done. Tomorrow, we will compete the next step in the project.

TEESTER2 and I are back in the swing of things today. After running a couple of fast errands in the little farming hamlet 28 miles away, we moved some construction materials up on the roof, and then did two hours of construction.

TEESTER2 and I have been incredibly busy for the last six days, and we were both physically, and mentally exhausted today. As a result, we both took it easy today, and will slowly ramp it back up, starting tomorrow about noon. We did about 20 to 30 minutes of general Farm labor today, and will turn in, to bed a little early this evening.

How to have fun and get exercise. Go target shooting. Teester2 and I set pistol targets. at 25, and 50 yards, and rifle targets at 100 yards. I counted the number of times that we walked out and back, and also moved the target frames, and we walked a little over 1,300 yards today.

We tested out Brie's new gun sights which were mounted on her pistol last week. We set the target out at 25 yeards at first. I shot mine first, then she shot hers. But the sights are so skewed that her shots were missing the bullseye. But she was dead accurate when shooting my pistol. She shot my rifle too, just to assure herself that her eyes are OK. Her rifle shots were also dead-on. So the sights on her pistol need readjusting. But we got lots of walking done. Walked out and back at the 25 yards line half a dozen times, then we moved the targets out to the 50 yard line. We walked back and forth a half dozen times and moved in closer again. All told, we walked three-quarters of a mile, just checking targets.
The rest of the day was spent shopping. I need a pedometer that stays put. I have lost every one which attaches to the waistline.

We pushed so hard over the four day weekend, that we slept in this morning, not getting up until ten. We ate very Protein heavy, extremely low carb meals, to help us repair and build muscles.Tonight we we will get back on the track, by spending time on the exercise bikes, get a good night's sleep, and hit the ground running tomorrow morning.

Teester2 spent the day in class at the Ft. Bliss Rod and Gun Club, taking an 8 hour N.R.A. class in Reloading. At the end of the day, she loaded up some Ammo, and test fired it, and had zero problems with her reloaded ammo. She then took a written test, and passed it, and is now is an N.R.A. certified Reloader. CONGRATULATIONS, Babe !

emoticon I did not Win a medal, but I did take home a medal. One gal competes in the Ladies' Division. But I compete in a different class with a different kind of pistol. The fellow handing out the medals commented that she had won, the First, Second, Third, and Fourth place. She demured, and took first place only. So the judge handed me the Second Place Medal! I guess that is similar to Also-Ran! I got a participation trophy!
