Challenge 05/25/09:
Happy Memorial Day to you!
No matter the political stand or party we belong to, we all owe our freedoms to many. Many Americans gave their lives so that we may have the freedoms that we have today.
On this Memorial Day, your challenge is to take a moment of silent thanks for the brave Americans that gave their lives to our country. If you are inclined, say a prayer. Do you know of someone that has lost a loved one for our country? Let them know how thankful you are for their bravery.
Without these individual sacrifices, we wouldn't be blessed with what we have. They gave so much. We owe them a moment of thanks.
"For love of country they accepted death..." ~James A. Garfield
"But the freedom that they fought for, and the country grand they wrought for,
Is their monument to-day, and for aye." ~Thomas Dunn English
"A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself."~Joseph Campbell
"I have never been able to think of the day as one of mourning; I have never quite been able to feel that half-masted flags were appropriate on Decoration Day. I have rather felt that the flag should be at the peak, because those whose dying we commemorate rejoiced in seeing it where their valor placed it. We honor them in a joyous, thankful, triumphant commemoration of what they did." ~Benjamin Harrison
To those that gave their lives for our country,
we thank you.
