Sometimes we can think we are the only ones who feel a certain way about ourselves - this thread shows how similar we all are: we all want to feel more confident, feel pain-free, be able to do things with our partners/children/granchildren, come off meds - read an be inspired!

10 Reasons Why I Want to Lose Weight and Maintain My Success - after being too often overweight for the last 49 of my 67 years!

1) I want a healthy B/P without medication, having just had an ugly allergic reaction to what I've been taking for about 3 years. (I'm therefore reluctant to start a new, even unrelated drug).

2) I want to enjoy walking as far as I want, as often as I want.

3) I don't like feeling winded after more than one flight of stairs.

4) I'm tired of feeling guilty about the St.John's knits hanging unworn in the back of my closet.

5) I want to feel pretty in my St. John's knits!

6) I like compliments, and I'm not getting very many.

7) I'm not one to really enjoy clothes shopping, but it's just too depressing to go buy anything larger than size 14.

8) I want to be able to walk my biggest dog. (Pita, 65 pounds)

9) I want to live well - and long enough to watch my grandchildren grow up. (Youngest is 5)

10) I want to limit the length of time I will end up dependent on my husband and/or son.

10 Reasons Why I Want to Lose Weight and Maintain My Success
1) A few years ago I had both my hips replaced and I want to get and keep the weight off my hips so that I don't have to go through that again or have any other body parts replaced.
2) I want to feel good about how I look, I want to be able to look in the mirror and WANT to dress up and look nice.
3) I want my body to be strong and be able to walk up a flight of stairs without getting out of breath.
4) I want to improve my self-esteem.
5) As I get older, kids go off to college, husband retires, I want to be able to have FUN and not have the extra weight get in the way of things I enjoy to do (gardening, hiking swimming and bird watching to name a few).
6) I don't want to be a burden to others. To lose and keep off the weight will help to ensure that I can do things on my own and won't get sick and have to be dependent on others.
7) To be more pleasing and have more fun with my husband.
8) To maintain my overall health.
9) To be able to take care of others if/when needed (husband, children, in-laws....)
10) To win the battle of the bulge would be a success and an accomplishment and would feel so good. To get to my goal weight would mean I would go from TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) to KOPS (Keeping Off Pounds Sensibly).

Reasons this time around: Because my health is failing=all my reasons.

You can read the reasons I listed in January below. I quit after only a few days last time. emoticon
I want to lose weight because I want...
1.to live a long and active life that includes running, camping, swimming, hiking, canoeing, horseback riding and travel with my children and grandchildren.
2.to be able to drive again with no fear of vertigo.
3.to be able to breathe comfortably when I move around.
4.to be able to fit in anything I want to sit in or ride on without worrying about my weight and being embarrassed.
5.to be medication free so I don't have to deal with side effects and reduce my risk of certain diseases that are obesity related.
6.to be able to serve my community and my God.
7. to be independent and not need physical care from my family.
8.to be able to keep a cleaner home and be able to host homeschool get togethers and Bible studies.
9. to not be ashamed of myself anymore for being weak willed. I have totally let myself down.
10. to be as healthy as possible so it is easier for myself and my doctors to know if a symptom is MS related or not.

I want to lose weight because:

1. I want to look good in clothes that I love in a size 10.
2. I am tired of getting winded when climbing stairs.
3. I don't want obesity related illnesses to arise.
4. I want to be confident in a swimsuit, on a beach, that's crowded even.
5. I want to have more energy.
6. I want to be around for grandkids, and be a good example of healthiness for my kids now.
7. I am tired of being embarrassed because of my size & fat rolls & jiggly bits.
8. I want to feel sexy again.
9. I am tired of allowing my size rob me of fun, opportunity, ...life. (big factor of depression and anxiety for me.)
10. I want to sail, surf, scuba dive, ride roller coasters and other fun, active things and not have my weight or size get in the way of being able to do these things or hinder me from feeling great and energetic while doing these things.

Bottom line:
confidence, self esteem, clothes, health, fun, LIFE!

Also: someday I hope to travel to Hawaii, where I want to hula dance on the beach wearing a hula skirt and tank top and look pretty dang good while doing so! :)

My official first day and my desires and reasons for wanting to lose weight.
1. I need energy right now I have none - due to being 205 pounds and gaining 30 of it in one year. Heaviest I have ever been.
2. Not to feel so self-conscientious. I know I'm not fooling anyone trying to cover up!
3. Fit into my work clothes been hitting second hand stores.
4. Stop feeling so depressed about how unhappy this is making me.
5. Find more enjoyment in life and be grateful for my blessings.
6. Overall better health: hernia, acid reflux, fatty liver, sore feet, back and knees.
7. Able to walk as far and as fast as I used to.
8. Ride my bike this summer without hauling the extra pounds.
9. Be rid of my stomach cutting into my ribs as I'm short waisted and the weight has no where to go.

Those are great reasons Julia ..... you can do it! Even 5 or 10lbs would make such a difference. I don't have much poundage to lose - but I often pick up a 5lb bag of shopping and am amazed at how heavy it is!

I want to lose weight because... I want to feel healthy. I know that losing these 25 lbs., will lessen my physical pain. I have back issues and varicose veins which are very painful, particularly my left leg. Working out and losing weight will improve the quality of my life. Thank you for this team.

I hear you, JazzyGF... it's great that you are aware of what you want to change and you've acknowledged it. I think that's a positive step in the right direction! I was in that same place recently myself and now I'm trying to just focus ahead on what I need to do... and to be as kind to myself as I would to someone I loved. We're all here to support each other so you're not alone! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I say ditto on so many of these reasons...this topic should be resd many times..especially when reaching for a quick, unhealthy food fix...

For 2015, Iím refreshing my goals for wanting to lose weight and have added a few:

I want to lose 55lbs in time by next September 2015.
I want to look good and fit in Size 10 clothing again.
I want to reduce my high blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

My reasons for wanting to lose the weight are:

- To feel and look good, and have more energy and stamina to do all the things I'd like to do but don't have the energy, strength or flexibility for now.
- feel comfortable in my own skin
- feel more confident
- reduce risks of disease
- reduce medical bills and insurance costs
- reduce strain and pressure on my back, hips, feet and joints
- STOP avoiding or hiding from having my photograph taken
- NOT feel embarrassed when shopping for clothes
- NOT feel self-conscious when eating out
- NOT be controlled by my appetite or cravings!
- BE ABLE to wear a bathing suit again without humiliation
- After Iíve achieved my own success in this, Iíd like to inspire and help others to do the same.

I just went back to see what my 10 reasons were back in July - and mostly they still stand - however, here are my current reasons

1 I want feel happy about how I look
2 I want to do yoga without my belly getting in the way
3 I don't want to have to think twice about taking my jumper off
4 I want to be able to wear my swimsuit without sucking my tummy in!
5 I want to look great at my son's wedding in June (those photos will last forever!)
6 I want to feel confident, especially around food!
7 I want to be free of my spare tyre
8 I want to feel good in 'waisted' clothes/dresses
9 I want to feel good about wearing light, summer clothes
10 I want to lose the excess fat that jiggles when I jump, or run!

I have written these on a piece of card that I using as my bookmark for the 100 Days

I relisted my reasons coz for months I have not lost any new weight and I need to remember WHY I started this journey.

I want to be the best I can be.
I want to do everything I can to prevent breast cancer coming back.
I want to be healthy.
I want to feel good physically.
I want to feel good about myself.
I want to be as active as I can.
I want my bionic knees to last as long as possible.
I want to enjoy life with hubby.
I want to wear all the clothes I have in my closet and new ones.

I want to lose weight because I am tired of being angry at everyone and everything around me just because I am not comfortable in my body.
I want to enter a clothing store without panicking.
I want to show my husband and my kids that I can do it.
I want to go swimming with them without being so darn moody for days beforehand because I hate the way I look.
I want to prove myself that I am not a failure and I can do it.
I want to look good and be complimented for it (just even once!)
I want to be an inspiration to someone else that if I can, anyone can.
Now is the time, I am doing it!!!

I want to lose weight because

I am just tired of hating myself over it. Feeling like a failure. Holding onto my weight for protection. Holding onto my weight to get my point across, that I am so much more than a number on a scale. I am ready to do better.

I want to lose weight because as I age I am seeing that good health needs to be worked at. It's no longer the "given" it felt like it was when I was younger. I want to always have healthy cholesterol levels. I want to put on clothing, whatever I like, and feel proud of myself, not try to camoflague. I want to lose weight so that it is easier and more enjoyable to exercise and be active. I don't think that I am suffering in that respect- but I bet that once I lose the weight, I will be VERY surprised about how much better I feel.
I want my husband to be proud of me. I know that my weight has always bothered him.
I have kept it on out of sheer spitefulness, at times. I can do better. I AM better than this.
I want to lose weight so that I can "grow up" from the inside, out. I have a lot of childhood issues surrounding my weight, and it's time to stop blaming and take charge of my own health.

I am new here. I want to lose weight because I want to be healthier and in doing so hopefully eliminate the hip and joint pain I have been experiencing.

I have been on my journey since August 2013 and am about half way to goal. So far I have lost and kept off 2 stone.

Welcome Karen, I identify strongly with all 4 of your reasons.
I, too, am trying to lose the last 25 lbs.
I'm older than you, 67.
We are both retired and enjoying it.
I have 3 grandchildren - 20, 19, and 2 - love spending time with each of them!

All good things. I hope you enjoy the team. I'm on day 61 today and can't believe how the time has flown by. I really like taking in all this information in small, daily lessons. You'll find that you'll pick and choose which you want to become "regulars" but you will always have the others to fall back on if you need them.

1. I'm just 15 lbs from my goal and want to be able to say "I did it!"
2. I'm 65 and want to avoid the health issues that too often come with excess weight and aging.
3. My husband is retiring and we plan to be active, and that will be more enjoyable and easier if I'm not overweight.
4. I have a granddaughter that's the light of my life and I want to be able to enjoy doing things with her for a long, long time. :)

I want to lose weight because..

1. I don't want to be fat
2. I don't want to hear it from my doctor/work bio screening
3. I want to be able to do cool things
4. let's be honest, I want to be able to wear cool clothes and look good doing cool things
5. I don't care if that is a bit vain

10. I'm competitive and losing weight is me "winning"
11. all lists must go to 11 and despite my tone here I really am taking this seriously

All good reasons! I'm glad "health" is at the top of the list - it should be a great motivator!
Welcome! I'm just on day 8 so we'll journey together!

Reasons I want to lose weight -
1. To stay healthy and hopefully not have to deal with diabetes, heart disease, that have been problems in my family history
2. To buy and wear beautiful clothes... yes at 63, I am still vain.
3. To be able to continue taking walks, enjoying life, being active as long as I possibly can
4. To live long enough to enjoy my grandkids (1 that is 3 yrs old and 1 that will be born in Feb) as they mature
5. To be able to finish something that I have started many times.
6. To inspire my family and friends which will in turn inspire me.
7. To gain self confidence.
8. To help with the winter blues - I always feel better when I am eating healthy and exercising
9 To see what it feels like to live in a body that weighs an amount that the bones and muscles are meant to carry
10. Because it is a dream that I have had for all of my life and I like to believe that dreams can come true.

I want to lose weight because at age 67--
1. I want to continue to live free of any prescription medicines.
2. I want to continue to live independently throughout my life.
3. I want to be an example of fitness in senior years to my children and grandchildren.
4. I will look better and feel more confident.
5. I want my husband and family to be proud of my efforts to be healthy.
6. I want to wear clothes that suit my personality, not necessarily my age.
7. I want to be at a goal weight that allows me to feel like I can eat dessert.
8. I want to move easily and less weight will mean less pressure on my arthritic joints.
9. I do not want to have a second knee replacement.
10. I want to finally find out what weight maintenance is like!
