Happy Friday everyone.
This is the last day of my vacation.
I plan to plug in my work laptop and see how much email piled up while I was out for 2 weeks.

Hope everyone has a great day - the weekend is almost here.

Have a great Friday and weekend, everyone. This will be a fantastic day for me because this evening, when I get home from work, one of my sons will be here for an extended Thanksgiving visit......he lives in SFO and I haven't seen him since June so I am one happy mommy today! Hope everyone else finds reasons to smile today...

Hi all, I'm still tired but had another half way decent day at work. The only problem I really had was that I was $450 in the hole in my bank account. I swear to God that they run the one big thing through first so they can get lots of overdrafts. Oh well, I'm on my way to getting all my hours in for this week, and I'm working Thanksgiving day as well, which is double time. Happy Thursday!

Hi All,
I just got back last night from 8 days in Ireland.
It was COLD, but we did not get rained on. That was amazing to miss the rain in Ireland.
I took lots of photos and really enjoyed myself with 4 good friends.
We spent a lot of time in the car. Driving from place to place on those little 2 lane roads - it was a challenge and it got dark at about 4:30PM.

I found some 5" DPNS #2 bamboo needles at a shop in Dublin. I had been looking for the shorter needles for my socks and found them - same brand we have here ...... but they did not cost much and now I have the needles that I have been searching for.
I'll start another pr. of socks soon.

I need to catch up on all the posts and see how everyone is doing.

Good Morning Team! My mom flew in safely last night and we are all leaving for the beach on Sunday for the week. YEAH!! I can't wait.
We are going to go to Joanne's yarn shopping for the trip. I found a new pattern and I want to start working on it... like I don't have enough other stuff to do?! emoticon

It's over the hump night!! And I'm beat after only about 3 hours of sleep last night, but I still put in more than 5 hours at work today. I got called off for the first 4 hours, went in at 11 and between 1 and 2:15 got 3 surgical patients back so I was busy. But it was a good day. Only now I'm tired.

Thought I'd add my tip for knitting from charts. Someone has probably already mentioned this but I bought a package of colored pencils and, before I even cast on, I get them out and color each type of stitch a different color. That really helps me becausee, quite often, the designs that they use to differentiate the stitches look very similar. Another thing I do is use one of the smallest Post-It notes and I move it along as I finish up a "block" of stitches. (Patterns usually feature some sort of line every 10 stitches to make the chart easier to read presumably.) Maybe these will help......or maybe they'll just confuse. Hope for the former, not the latter.

Okay, what day is it?? I can't keep track any more! I got a few rows done on my afghan last night, crocheted baby sweater just needs edging and buttons. I ordered some sock yarn last night from Herrschner's. They change yarn sales weekly. Lots of fun. Everyone have a good day.

Before I forget it. Thanks for the nice comment Ladyirish. I have gotten such nasty comments from people when I mentioned that some people have problems with charts. So many just don't get it.
They keep telling me to just concentrate, watch a video or study the chart and I can do it so stop griping about it just because I won't take the time to learn. I used to be able to read them and made a nice living from knitting back then as I designed sweaters for ultra obese or handicapped people who had to have custom made clothes. The first commission I had was for a 6'7" man with a 72 inch chest.

I dream of mountain climbing, going hunting and fishing with the kids, then I wake up.

For those new knitters, one thing you should know is that when you do a narrow piece of knitting, like a scarf, don't do rows of all knit, rows of all purl, or all stockinette st. It will most likely curl into a tube if you do. You should have at least 4 stitches on each side in a different stitch to hold the fabric flat. We won't go into how many I made when I first started knitting that I cried over before someone showed me why I had tubes instead of scarves.
In a blanket or afghan it isn't a problem, but when you knit a narrow piece it is. I usually do the 4 edge stitches in seed st(kl,pl)or will do them as each row is a knit row.
Just something to think about. :)

Hello everyone! Beautiful Monday here in GA!
I am knitting a blanket for my daughter that is knit every row. She loves it and can't wait for me to finish it. I am also knitting a blanket for my nephew that is a knit/purl combo and I really like the look and feel of that one. So much fun to play with stitches and see what you get.
Have a great day!

That's interesting - purling all rows. Mmmmmmmmmm. I have just been sitting idle if not working on my X-stitch, but the itch is building to start something-anything so we shall see! Godo luck on selling the house Becky.

Denise, they'll come out looking identical, because both are just methods of garter stitch. Knitting every row is the most common way to do it, but I've heard some people say that purling every row gives a better result.

I know some people don't like purling, but I've never quite understood. It doesn't feel all that different to me.

Good morning everyone, hope your weekend was good. I love to knit and purl, my mother taught me.

SHERI as I read your post it got me to thinking, I have never just totally knitted anything, I have always knit/purl, knit/purl so I am going to just knit a whole scarf and then I am going to purl one to see how they turn out, I know they will probable be nice but I am curious now. Have a great day team.

Dee, you are way ahead of me. I'm just re-learning to knit and I'm okay at knitting for now, but when it comes to purling...ugh. I am a crocheter at heart where my mom is a knitter, but we both try and do the opposite from time to time just to keep skills up.

Zippy, it took me AGES to be able to read charts, and I still find it difficult. Written patterns are just much easier for me (and, I suspect, a lot of people) to follow. Nobody has any business putting you down for it.

I have been sorting and oohing and aahing over patterns all weekend. Have been contacting designers who only have charted patterns asking if they have them in written versions since I and many friends cannot read charts because of various brain recognition problems and have had 19 patterns sent to me that are normally in only charts.
Now we all can work on lace shawls and stoles instead of just being upset at a page full of lines and blobs. Have swatched for 3 of them and started one shawl. One lady in Denmark has even put a book in the mails she says that she has had for 30 years that is all written patterns as she can only do charts so I am thrilled.
Many have blasted me in various Yahoo groups over my comments and wishes for written patterns instead of or in addition to charts, but it is starting to pay off and I have permission to share the patterns with the ones in my group of disabled knitters so we all win. It was suggested we start a Ravelry group to possibly get a group of people who will write down the patterns that we have bought but cannot use so will let you know how that goes.

Good Evening Everyone -

I joined this team when I began in SP but when I threw out all my good intentions this one fell away too. I need to pick the needles up again to keep my hands busy. This was such a great group of knitters back in February and I am sure it still is pretty wonderful. Today I planned my meals for the week, got the groceries. Basically made a plan and now working it.
Hope everyone has a great week.

Happy Sunday to everyone.
I am still on vacation in Ireland and fly home on Wednesday.
The weather has been very good for us. I expected rain everyday and it has been dry everyday and some days we even had sunshine.
It is colder than So. Calif. but I am having a good time.
Tomorrow we move from our lovely condo in Adare into Dublin for the last 2 nights and I will wander around Dublin.
My goal is to find 5" bamboo dpns for making socks. I have the 7 or 8" now and they are cumbersome to knit socks.
Can you believe that I did not bring any knitting with me???? my friends/ travel buddies do not do any type of handcrafts - and I knew I would not have the opportunity to do any knitting.
I have told them that I wish I would have brought something with me...... I don't think they understand.
I'll chat more when I get home.
Cheers,
Fesy

Good morning everyone, work will be such fun as I'm going in with 4 hours of sleep....stupid boyfriend! LOL
Even worse is the stupid computer, I'm so tired of it always telling me "not responding". As soon as I can afford it I'm getting Windows 7 and getting rid of the stupid Vista thing. Everyone have a great day, happy knitting, and think of me while I'm at work!

Blessed be.

Good Morning! Happy Sunday to all!
I found a pattern for a hooded cardigan that is long and cabled yesterday. I think I may try to knit if for myself. This is a big and intricate project for me. We will see how it goes. I need to go find the perfect yarn.

Good morning, everybody!

I'm not awake -- need some coffee. I'm supposed to get the last two bookcases this weekend so I'll finally be able to get the last of the books shelved. Meantime Frank's lap blanket is almost done so I'll be able to get back to my coat.

Oh, and of course emoticon emoticon emoticon

Good morning, everyone. I'm feeling a bit better, just had a bad night with my hip *sigh*. I'm afraid I might have to talk to my rheumatologist about seeing a surgeon. Just another thing I can't afford! Oh well, won't worry about it until I absolutely have to. I have papers to finish and then work this evening, but that's okay. Sometime in here I have to clean my house so the realtor doesn't freak when he comes over!

Good Morning everyone! I seem to be busy, but I am not sure doing what. Times goes much to fast!
Have a great day. I hope to have some time to knit this afternoon or tonight.

Hi everyone. I have been doing some machine knitting for a couple of weeks now. I am making a presonalized Christmas stocking for my new DSIL. When I took the it off the machine the lettering was backwards so had to rip the whole thing out. I have only about 1.5 hours left on "take 2" before I take it off the machine. Then I have to weave in ends and sew it up. I hope to get a couple more done befroe Christmas for other "family" who haven't gotten them yet.
Have a great weekend everyone.

Diane
