I'm not sure how soon we can get back to normal but I'm ready to work on it. LOL.

I like Splenda. I mainly use the packets or granulated kind. I think it has less of an aftertaste than some others.

MonaMom - you can get Splenda that has the texture of sugar. I think it is the Sugar blend type. It's a combination of Splenda and sugar. 2 grams per serving.

Congrats Morticia on the sale. Hopefully your stress will be gone soon and you will get your life back.

Happy St Pattys Day everyone!!

I bought splenda yesterday. It is good, but the truvia had the texture of sugar. It is sure not worth five of my precious carbs. :)

I was so depressed today when I got out my summer clothes. Thirty pounds has made everything very tight~~and some just not able to get on. DUMB!! But I am NOT eating and I am moving along. Two pounds this week and down we go!!

We are going to a St Patty's Dinner at the VFW but I am so glad the cabbage and corn beef are both right on my plan. I will eat a few carrots and be fine. Smart Irish!!!!

Wishing you all a great weekend. Hugs, Mona

Good morning ladies! I like Splenda for most things like cereal and fruit if it need it (strawberries and grapefruit) but I love good old sweet and low in my iced tea. Not quite sure why but that's me. Have a wonderful weekend. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I use splenda chiefly. Many of the "studies" against splenda are pseudoscience put out by labs hired by the sugar industry. I don't use a lot of anything. I am working toward eating cleaner and fruit is sweet enough to me and allowed on my plan.

emoticon on loss ! TISH, so what do you use for something that has to "sweetened up" ? I love vinegar and lemon juice (i eat lemons, rind too) but need something in my coffee and frozen fruits seem to lose the sweetness they had when fresh. I can eat anything out of the garden fresh but they don't taste the same from the freezer. I can't eat plain yogurt without sweetening it a little.

I've tried the stevia but not the truvia. I didn't like it. I don't use a lot of sweeteners. I get most of my sweet fix from fruit as I'm allowed it on my plan. I thought truvia had 3 carbs per packet but the box should tell. Congrats on the weight loss!

Good morning

Down two pounds this morning. So very happy with that. And the night eating is under control. I am VERY happy with that. Now to figure out what kind of exercise I can do without making my shoulder and neck hurt.

Do any of you use Tuvia? Does it really have 5 carbs per packet. I LOVE it and have been using it in my tea. Thought it was a 0 carb item.

Have a GREAT day!!

I made some moisturizing lotion/cream today with coconut oil, Vitamin E oil and fragrance (lavender/vanilla) oil. I think it's going to work really well. Used an immersion blender and fluffed it all up and its so smooth and creamy!! Besides, it smells good... Love it!

You will see sugar alcohol in the ingredients i think. Yes deduct the fiber, we should get about 25-35 grams of fiber a day. Not that many of us do, or at least i haven't heard anyone say so. I am trying but fiber means more veggies, flaxseed and other stuff. I don't bother with the sugar alcohol but i don't think i have anything with it in it. My sf syrup has it and it taste emoticon never buy it again. As for reg. sugar in the nutrition you want to try not to get more than 4 gr. per serving. It's hard at times. I haven't found yogurt yet with less than 9 for a cup. At least it's not 15-30 g as some are for those little 5oz cups.

emoticon STEVE glad your back and feeling well ! Like your "3 things i'm grateful for.

Hi everyone

Working on day #6. So far so good. See what the scales say tomorrow, but I could swear my clothes feel a bit loser. Not quite comfortable but better.

Is it correct that you can subtract fiber and alcohol sugar from the total carbs?? And does it have to say alcohol sugar or is it the sugar that is listed under the nutrition?

I am not doing much exercise with my injured shoulder, but trying to get in as many steps as I can every day.

Hope you enjoyed your brunch with friends.

Have a GREAT day everyone.

Hey team
Just been catching up on all your posts. Not been on this thread for a couple of weeks (bad Sparker). Welcome new joiners emoticon

I just wanted to quickly say, mainly based on what others have said, 1900 calories really isn't too high, as long as you're exercising too. That's what works for me anyway. Everyone is right though, we do have to determine what levels work for us. For me, keeping carbs under 50g, and eating, 1700-1900 calories a day works. I do work out 5 or 6 days a week though, so maybe that's why. I would much rather be able to exercise and eat loads to be honest. I'm kinda greedy like that emoticon

Hi everyone. I am on my fifth day of low carbs and starting to feel better. I am sticking to my under 100 until I see what my weight is on Friday. I did peek this morning and I was down two pounds.

Had my MRI yesterday and will see the doctor next Wednesday. I know I will do better once I can get back on a regular exercise routine. Sure miss my water aerobics.

I am SO ashamed to admit that I have seen 300-500+ carbs on my food tracking chart. So cutting back to 100 is a BIG change for me.

Really have to watch my salt intake too, but as much as I have been running to the throne the past few days, I think that even though I am above my 2300 allowed things are going well.

I do thank all of you for the warm welcome. And steelergirl, you are not far from my hometown of Punxsutawney. And Fluff, you and I have been buds for a long time. Looking forward to making good friends and good health habits on this team. Of course, Morticia, I have been running to you just about the entire time I have been on Sparks.

Have a great day everyone! Hugs, Mona emoticon

checking in and out.......walked 5.5 miles in 2 outings and ate low carb about 23, feel better but not great. Still can't seem to find "my" way of being able to lose every week. I'm wondering, since i'm 68 and not very muscular would that make it harder to lose. I know younger people lose faster, men lose faster and muscle helps you to lose. Right ?

I don't put much stock into studies like that one. They are anecdotal. Asking people what they ate. I could not accurately tell you what I ate yesterday all day if I didn't write it down and these people didn't.

67 carbs is good. I would suggest that you get most of your carbs from low glycemic veggies, low glycemic fruit, nuts, seeds, and dairy if you eat it. if you get rid of anything keep these and get rid of the fiber bars and bread. They tend to slow weight loss and stall some people and the rest I have listed don't unless you eat too much cheese which technically isn't dairy. I would try to keep my calories below that actually - the 1200-1600 range is recommended for most women. I have that sparkpeople's recommendations are often too much.

Monamom, I do low carb but I do not follow Atkins (although I love the Atkins shakes...mmmmmmm).

When I cut down on carbs (and eliminate bad carbs) and stop eating sugar, I get headaches, irritable, dizzy, etc...I would say it may be why you feel yukky! But that will go away eventually. It took me almost a month to stop having carb withdrawals.

As for the 1900 calories and 67 carbs, everyone is different and it depends on how much exercise you are doing. If you aren't exercising, I would say 1900 might be too many calories. 67 carbs would work for me. I try to stay between 60-90/day. It's something I can manage indefinitely. But I try to keep my calories between 1200 and 1500/day.

I think you need to see what you were taking in before you began this lifestyle change and determine how much exercise you are doing (how many calories you are burning). You can always adjust as you go if necessary.

Maybe the team can offer some other advice on how to determine your calorie/carb intake. I think you'll find a variety of ranges based on prior consumption and exercise habits.

Good luck!

Hi Team, I'm Jean and I'm new to this team.

I spent a little bit of time catching up on your posts through March. I'm friends with a few of you already so I feel very comfortable!

I wanted to chime in on the fried onions and cabbage. I just finished eating some for lunch (made it for dinner Saturday). I cook my onions in butter a little bit first, then add the cabbage. My secret ingredient?? Bacon bits! They take on moisture and plump up like little pieces of ham. You could use ham or bacon as well but I like the tast of the bacon bits and its easy. I could eat it every day.

I have lots of new stuff coming from Netrition.com today or tomorrow. Cannot wait! Do any of you order from Netrition?

Have a wonderful day/week!

Just joined the team and looking forward to learning about a low carb lifestyle. I have done low carb before but never really stayed with it. As a carb junkie I need to change my lifestyle "forever".

Today is my third day and I am starting with 100 or less carbs. Feeling kind of yukky so I am guessing that is the "induction flu". I am not eating any sugary snacks, and my carbs are fruits, veggies, whole grain bread (12 carbs for 2 slices), and fiber rich snack bars. I will probably have to cut some of those but if I can eat them and lose I don't want to throw them out. Yesterday I had 1900+ calories but only 67 carbs~~is that good???

Wishing you all a great day. I will be missing tomorrow as I have an MRI first thing in the morning. Hugs!!

Mona~~SC

Good Monday Morning girlies! (and Steve). Hope you had a wonderful weekend and are headed to an even more wonderful week. Mine is a busy one but I think there is going to be a change that will help me stay on track better as far as eating goes. Let's see if my theory is correct.

SHARON, I use a coconut drink (sugar free and low carb) for my base in my smoothies. I use one cup of that, a scoop or two (whatever to get about 30+ grams protein) and usually half cup of fruit. Blueberries, mixed berries, raspberries, strawberries, etc. Occasionally I'll splurge and use 1/2 cup frozen sweet cherries. Then I blend it all together in the blender and it makes such a smooth yummy shake.

Hello Everyone,
I think I did well on my first week end on atkins. I went to Wendy"s and ask for a grilled chicken sandwich wrap in lettuce,I also went to Subway and has a grilled chicken salad. The rest of my meals where at home. I cheated an had 1 biscuit at dinner with my steak. Got back to walking. And I did raking in the yard, hate to do this on Sunday, but I work all week. Have a great day.

I believe my body has an internal self-setting clock. I haven't set an alarm clock for months and this morning even with the clocks set ahead last night I woke up at 6:30am. We are curious machines us humans! emoticon

The Brazillian meat thing is a Brazillian bbq place, I understand that their meats actually come from Brazil, but not positive. The meat is very high quality and excellent in flavors (& expensive, glad I wasn't paying). They have the various kinds of meats, all brought to your table on a rotisserie rod and sliced off to order (rare/medium/well sections). They also have a salad bar with rather fancy things on it, or things one doesn't usually find on salad bars. Fresh asparagus, fresh mozarella, artichokes, etc., all things cut fancy. You pay for the ambiance there!! It was fun, but not a place I'd go to if I had to pay for it, I think it was a bit over priced. But it was good!

@Liz, I do shakes for breakfast a LOT... I don't use the Atkins, but another brand (Premier Protein) that I get at Costco, 170 calories and 30 grams of protein - most of the Atkins are between 15-20. And actually will do them other times during the day sometimes. I don't do the bars, don't like the sugar alcohol thing in them, gives me a belly ache.

Atkins bars are marked for the different phases, if you look on the package you can see if it's for phase One or not - but I'd still go easy on them, they seemed to slow me down.

I've set all the clocks ahead, so now since it seems later than it is, I think I'll call it a night!

Atkins sounds like a plan! I'm going to get my BUTT in gear (sounds familiar). Welcome Back Betty, I'm glad you weren't here to witness my absence from the boards a little bit over the past month. But I'm back in gear (i think) and am learning to juggle more balls at a time. Let's be healthy and conquer this beast!
