FREESPIRITME:

Crass is what I like, I feel like you have to get sort of vulgar to understand, because its just not American to be lady like all the time especially chatting about body parts, so that does help. The Kegals visual also helped as well, now if I can just remember to relax my shoulders and keep my breathing right, and core solid I will be good to go

My Pilates instructor mentioned in class today that we should try to suck in the pelvic floor. I wonder if maybe it's like you're trying to suck water into your vagina?

Sorry if I sound crass, I'm just looking for clarification.

Oh, I know IT Band -- Illio-tibial! Runners can get to know it because it is an area that often gets tight and you need to know the stretches that target it!

I would DEFINITELY ask your instructor -- and not be afraid about seeming vulgar! Since dealing with the pelvic floor is so crucial in making Pilates most effective, you need and want to know just what it feels like and where it is!!

I think it is close to the muscles involved with the Kegel but slightly different -- I guess that one reason I'm NOT a Pilates instructor is, I don't quite know how to explain it in a written message, either!

When I am "zipping up" I can tell when I've started with the pelvic floor, and when not. My instructor gave beginners an article on the pelvic floor, I'll have to see if I can unearth it, and if so, will share!

If you lay on your back and make a triangle with your hands, thumbs at belly button and index fingers toward your feet, you will encompass the muscles that you should feel working. They are the ones surrounding your pelvis bone.

Thanks for the advice, I might just have to be vulgar and ask my instructor again, but I too think of it as the kegels muscle.

I've had it used both in neutral spine and in flat spine.

I think it means contracting your tummy inwards and down untill the arch in your back is then flattened by pushing it down to the floor.

I always think of it as the same muscles that Kegel hits. One of my pilates instructors once apologized for saying something very specific like that explaining that they've been taught not to use words that might be offensive or exclusive (we have men in our class who may not know what a kegel is)

I skipped biology in high school and college, so when they begin getting specific about other muscles, I sometimes have to ask them to point to it. IT band? I had never heard that term before.

Doe this basically mean squeeze your vagina? I know I know I may be vulgar here but sometimes I wish my Pilates trainer would just be straight up. It helps to be blunt sometimes you know
LOL
A little help here

thanks
