Hi Shelley! The Detroit International Marathon, that isn't the same one as the Free Press race is it? I've never done it, but wouldn't mind it.

So exciting finding a forum such as this... I love reading these post.... very motivating!!! I'm an avid runner and have been running for several years. Currently I am registered for a Spring and Fall Marathons for 2018. My Spring race is one I became interested in as a destination race, Dunneville Mudcat Marathon in Dunneville, Ontario, Canada. The Fall being my favourite, I've run it 7 years in a row, The Detroit International Marathon. LOVE this race!!!
If anyone else in this forum has run either I'd love to hear your views :)

So I just ran my first marathon on Sunday in Des Moines. It was awesome and I signed up for another one the day after!! It's in April in Iowa City. It runs from Cedar Rapids, IA to Iowa City, IA. I'ts called Run CRandIC
I start training for that in December. Till then I will just be trying to lose weight and maintain my distances as well as adding in other workouts.

Started my Rock & Roll DC training this week. Hoping to break 3:30 in that one. Will maintain in between and run the 20th Anniversary Flying Pig. The last time I ran it was the first Pig and my first Marathon. Running it with the same running buddy.

I'm running the Sioux Falls Marathon on Sept. 10th. I had signed up to run last year, but health issues prevented that from happening. This year is looking better. Fingers crossed.

I'm still trying to decide on a race as I get back in running shape. There is a 50K race here in Texas that is my ultimate goal but that' almost a year away and I want to something before then.

I should have no trouble with the half marathon this year because of all of the full training I have been doing!

Welcome back! Sounds like you have some great goals and I have no doubt that you will work hard to achieve them. It sounds like you have a lot to deal with taking care of your husband, so I am sure the time training will be a nice stress relief outlet for you.

Welcome back, Elly! I hope you are able to meet all of your training and race goals. I'm eyeing the Jemez 50k in Los Alamos, New Mexico in May 2017.

Good luck, Elly! You have a good line-up there.

I counted the other day, and on Sunday, I'll be 30 weeks out from my next full. I'll likely have a couple of half marathons and a number of shorter races before that, but I don't have anything currently scheduled. I am registered for a 13K tomorrow, but my son's last XC meet is going to conflict with that now.

I am sorry about your husband.

I'm new to this group and just started running again after having 6 months off to take care of my husband who had a brain tumor. It's hard to get back into it. But the reason to turn a leaf and refocus on myself is key after being a caregiver for a while.
I'm training for the following:
Nordic Fest Elvelopet 15K - July 2017
Rotary Half - September 2017
Las Vegas Rock and Roll 26.2 - November -2017

My goal is to pace work, as my first half I completed a year ago and was towards the end. Most of the other people had already left! But I did it...

Wish me luck!

Hi MALAMI518,

Have you decided to try this race. It's less than 2 weeks off. I'm still not ready but am going work through it.

Vinny C.

EDIT - Thought I was replying to MALAMI518's comment and now can't delete this from the thread.

I wouldn't say training, but my only real race this year is Flying Monkey. I will be walking and just trying to finish. But I'll be 38 weeks pregnant. :)

Hi Beth,

Take a look at this:
www.all-about-marathon-training.com/
ma
rathon-training-schedule-12.html

My best time was 4:41 in may 2013 but now I'm going for volume. The HOV marathon was my second in 8 days and it took nearly 2 hours longer. Last year I ran Dicks, Wineglass, Empire State, and the MCM within 5 weeks and I'm registered to do the same again this year. I expect finishing times to be between 5:00 and 5:30 as they were in 2015. As Pastafarian pointed out in your latest thread, the main goal is to remain uninjured.

If you do register for the Dick's marathon, I'd like to hear from you. Maybe we can talk about expectations and pace.

Vinny C.

Vinny, I live very near that section of 434 and have run it a lot during training for the Herald of Victory. And it can't possibly be 90-degrees again, right? You have me seriously thinking about this. In fact, I just started another thread about training with limited time. I am also neither fast nor competitive. The fact that this course feels like "my course" has me very tempted.

Hello all.

I'm training for Chicago as well. This will be my third year in a row running with my daughter, and she is looking for a PR this time around.

Hi Beth,

You're correct. I'm from the east end of Broome County. I am neither fast nor competative but I enjoy the challenge. If you ran the Herald of Victory Marathon Dick's Greater Binghamton Marathon will seem like a walk ion the park. There are few turns and no significant hills Sunday morning traffic is minimal and the shoulders on 434 are wide and flat. I'm not trying to goad you into doing something you don't have time for, but if you are at all on the fence, there are three day a week ninety day traing programs you can find on line.

STRIVERONE, you must be local to me. I see that you ran the Vestal XX yesterday and are going to run the Dick's marathon. I was going to run the Vestal XX but decided against it. I'm basically recovered from the Herald of Victory physically, but I decided that I didn't want to push too hard. I ran the Strawberry Shake 5K on Friday.

I am considering the half at the Dick's. I was looking at the marathon, but I don't have the time to devote to training correctly this summer.

Good luck!

HEATHERLEIGH44, well put! Especially for me, as this is my first marathon. I have found that preparation is so important, so my training started in late April. I have plenty of shorter races in between (in fact I have a 5K on Saturday), but they just feed into the overall plan. Ask me in July when I start getting into some major distances on my long runs....

My next marathon is the Dick's Greater Binghamton Marathon on September 18th. Are you using a formal training program?

Curious as to what race everyone is training for this summer. I am training for the Hartford Marathon. I ran it back in 2013 but didn't finish well. Walked the last 5.2 miles and that got me in just under 7 hours. The cut off is 6 hours so my goal is to come in under the cut off and if that is 5:59:59, then I will be happy. Anything better then that is icing on the cake.
