BIA is actually considered one of the least accurate methods for estimating % body fat.

I recently wrote a whole blog post about different methods to figure out % body fat, here: www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_jo

For really big people the most accurate way to assess changes in body composition is supposedly the regular old measuring tape. (i.e. the circumference of your arms, legs, waist, hips, etc. Your weight might not go down, but if you're replacing fat with muscle the measurements will drop and you will drop clothing sizes.)

Having said that, I DO have a BIA scale (Tanita Innerscan) and I do log my numbers every morning at physicsdiet.com. I just try to remember that the number can be off as much as 3-5%.

Hope this helps!

Never, ever, EVER give up!

From BMI 53 (336 lbs) to under 30. Now aiming for less than 20% body fat.

Is anyone using a BIA scale, one that weighs your body water, muscle, and fat as well as your weight? I read online that they can be more accurate as well as more motivating because you can see when your muscle mass or water volume goes up and then can explain why your actual weight isn't changing.
