I organized a cabinet in the kitchen to make it more roomy for the glasses we actually use. Those water goblets on stems look pretty, but can't remember using them more than once. They were MIL's and still not ready to donate them .... but might eventually. There's room in a high cabinet for them.

That was a handy thing to do Kathy, next time you need a card you should be able to find one quickly!

I worked in our "storage unit" today. DH has all kinds of things in there! He collects photo equipment and telescopes too. emoticon

A smaller storage box of birthday, anniversary, baby, get well sympathy, and thank you cards. I knew if I could eliminate some of the cards, I'd be able to put the rest into something smaller, and I could get rid of that box under the bed - which has greatly deterred me from cleaning under the bed as often as I should. So though it doesn't sound like a big job, it had a bigger purpose, and I was glad to get it done!! And some of the cards had probably been there for at least 10 years, so it was time for them to go! Plus I got all the cards matched up with the right-sized envelopes!! Yea for the next time I need a card!!

My donations - had clothes in hall closet, bags in hall closet, and then a box on my bedroom floor that is overflowing. This has been building up for some time and I'm ready to see it out of here!

I added a shelf to one of my shelves. Now I've got my plastic screw and nail organizer underneath a little shelf so I can pile stuff on the shelf and still get to the organizer.
I can't wait to get out in the garage and finish what I started last fall!

I cleaned my table off! Had to if we're to have somewhere to eat Easter dinner next week! In order to do that, I finished the Malmberg family album that Mom had started years and years ago. She had some pics mounted but most of it was just loose.
Then I took all the stuff out of a 3 ring binder on my bookshelf. Threw it all out except the divider pages. I'll take the empty binder upstairs to save for future use.
I also gave Freddie a bath and washed the towels and blanket that I use to cover some chairs and a loveseat. Freddie is really mad at me. He laid out in the porch for an hour sulking. He wants outside but I hate to have him out in the cold when he's still wet and, if I offer to let him in, he comes in, then wants back out. Did I mention that he's really mad at me? emoticon

Hey Becca, that is great! I have taken about the same amount of stuff to the charity shop but I didn't get to give someone a free lamp. I think that is so great!

Good luck Paula! I just took everything out of my DH's man cave and cleaned it right in front of him, later he thanked me and said that he didn't know where to start. No kidding! Talk about crap everywhere!

Yesterday, I organized a section of my closet, cleaned out a purse, placed it in the donate pile, along with other stuff, and cleaned my bed in its entirety.

It will be my fourth trunkload to goodwill since I started.

Funny story. I found a solitary tall lamp crammed in my sister's front closet that we don't need. While I was unloading the trunk at the drive through at goodwill, the lady in the car behind me and begged to have the lamp. It would be perfect for her kitchen. She got a new free lamp! It made her day!

I'm slowly condensing my Mom's papers. In her "stuff" was papers from when she had to settle her aunt's, her mom's, and my dad's parents' estates. I felt very confident putting those in the recycle bag.

Kathy - sounds like your room is taking shape! What a great idea to have a room to get away to! I'm toward the end of my craft room (which is also the computer and bike room) re-do. The one side that has the table and cabinets and sink is done. Now the next big thing is the shelves by the computer. They hold 15 of the file hanger size plastic boxes filled with craft items I've worked with over the years -- mainly with kids. It is high time to go through those again and get rid of some stuff. I do still work with kids, but not every day like I did years ago.

Uh, Christine, there are no craft drawers, no craft cabinets, no craft boxes, because... I don't do crafts! Sorry to disappoint you on that, my idea of "a place of peace" is a room with a cozy chair and an an endtable stacked with books, a computer desk, and some pretty pictures, and curtains blowing with the breeze while sunshine pours into the room. And music, definitely music. No talk radio allowed!!! (A drawer will have two screwdrivers, tape measure, glue gun, tape, scissors, thread & needle and safety pins - just because you never know when you will need those things, and another drawer larger drawer will hold the rest of my "tool chest": hammers, drill, dust masks, trowels and putty knives screws of all sizes, nails, etc - because you never know when you will need those things either.) I will have a candle drawer, love candles! It's mostly just gathering my favorite things from all over the house, and having them in one place so they are easily accessible and other people - primarily DH, won't be "rooting' through these drawers looking for something - like a dog digging for a bone!! emoticon It's just a small room, but will work as my getaway place when I need some space.

I started on rearranging (organizing is too big of a thought just yet) some dresser drawers. I have taken over the spare bedroom AND my place of peace, but am still working on figuring out what goes in which drawers. Ihaven't yet come up with the perfect solution, but am downsizing a lot as I go - a very good thing!! My big decision of the day is to use our old treadle sewing machine (from which I removed the treadle and the sewing machine several years back, got tired of the dust trap that they were, hard to clean under, etc.) as my computer desk in my "new" room. It will be small enough that I won't be able to let so much paper get piled up on it.

(Should have been outside working though!!)

Loved the stories of your tables, Lisa and Christine. Funny how you never think about dusty table legs too much...LOL....until you're actually down there at eye level with it!

This evening I finally organized the 3 shelves with water glasses, big coffee mugs and smaller tea mugs. I have a bad habit of wanting to keep too many in there because I like their design - especially on the tea mugs. It was a jumble of different sizes willy nilly on each shelf. So I pulled everything out and re-positioned the height of two of the shelves, and pulled about 10 mugs out to store. The taller water glasses are all on the bottom shelf and the mugs spread out according to size on the next ones above. It's so much nicer in there now. I'm not a strict "set" person with only one pattern. I like variety - and I do collect quite a few odds and ends. I think I've got it a bit more manageable now.

Paula, my table is very similar to that. It was my Grandma's and she gave it to me in the '90's in an effort to 'downsize' a bit. Several months later, she said she had finally decided to give it up because she couldn't get down and dust the legs anymore! I said 'Oh, am I supposed to be doing that?' emoticon It has 3 leaves that I left in it after Christmas so that I would have room to spread the pictures and album out and actually get that project done. I'm still working on that, occasionally.

Ahh....Dark Shadows! I remember that!

This table belonged to the parents of "Uncle" Marvin. He and "Aunt" Libba and their four kids were like family - many shared family vacations. When Uncle Marvin's parents died and their house had to be sold, my mom helped them get an estate sale set up. None of their family wanted it, so my mom got it and refinished it - made an extra leaf for it --and it appeared in our home when I was in about 5th grade. It's a beautiful old heavy piece, but comes apart ingeniously (with some putting on of the old thinking cap) in order to move it around. Looks like this style:

The legs on mine are broader and closer to the ground, and the pedestal taller

Ooooo the love furniture with a story! I often think "if this table could talk" about the oak table I grew up with, and did my homework on, that I use now. My mom and my two sisters and I would drink tea after school and visit. And then watch Dark Shadows on the TV.

Back to it today - craft room is a jumble of boxes and vanity suitcases etc. brought from Mother's when I was cleaning her house out. My goal is to have it sorted and packed back up - with tools in one place (and identified with help of the jewelry books checked out from the library) AND a clean table top. I've got my Mom's antique oak table in the craft room covered by a plastic protector and then table cloth from Walmart. I couldn't bear to sell it for a song at the estate sale and I know one of the boys will want it someday. It takes up a bit of space, but makes a nice work surface too.

I spent some more time going through Mother's many boxes and containers of jewelry making stuff. Some is getting donated or thrown away, and the rest divided into appropriate containers. There is so much all thrown together - projects started not completed, scavenged items. It's pretty time consuming, but I need to know what I've got and where I've got it. And every now and then I find something like a James Avery charm thrown in that she was going to use - so I've got to look at it all.

Actually it was a joint project - DH and I oiled the woodstove and pipe, cleaned the hearth, moved the ash bin out and polished the glass. Then I moved back the decorations that normally sit on the stove and hearth.

Thanks, I am back to 100% again! Yay! I will be outside in a minute, it is 52 degrees!

Good job on the sewing room!

I worked on my patio off my bedroom. Wow, I still have things to do out there before I am finished. I can't wait until I can sit out there and relax sometimes.

@Christinebwd I hope you're feeling better now.

Today is still young, but I found another 8 items to get rid of forever. (Exceeding my goal of 7) and I organized my sew room just a little bit.

Actually, DH and I got outside and got two garden beds planted! Inside, I organized the shelves in my kitchen cabinet where I keep drinking glasses, coffee cups, and tea cups. Way too many dishes in there!

Our dogs ended up getting a few of those freezer treats, too, when we were clearning my Mom's freezer. They loved it!

Pictures are the WORST to deal with, especially when you have no idea who the subjects are! I still just can't throw them away.

Today I cleaned off half my table. Got rid of some stuff from Mom's desk; she still had the original purchase agreement from the house HER mom bought in 1984! Now I need to get a check written and mail off the application to transfer Dad's brand to Eric and me; that will get one more thing off the table.

I also got a couple packages of beef out the deep freeze and decided to treat the dog and cats. One of them is from 2014 and the other from 2015. They are wrapped in butcher's paper and look fine, but are starting to freezer burn.

Lisa - that kind of thing takes SO long! I found a lot of things like that Mother had saved and spent time reading and remembering. I still think about her every day. emoticon

I organized (to a certain extent) a couple cabinets above the sink in the craft room. I'm finding things here and there to donate after saving them for later consideration.

Paula and Christine, that's so funny! We should have a challenge where one person posts what they organized and then the next one comes and says 'Did that and..." emoticon

We have sold Mom's desk (sort of) so I have 2 boxes of stuff sitting in the dining area to be emptied. Some of the stuff is usable, note pads and envelopes. Some of it is sentimental, letters to Mom from my kids when they were in the military; Breezy said she had a melt down after reading those. And the rest is pictures and unidentifiable stuff, like a small box with labels, maybe? They're blank, about a half inch by an inch and a half and they look like they might have lickable adhesive on one side. The box is from a newspaper office and has my signature along with that of an old boyfriend scribbled on the bottom! I HAVE NO IDEA!!!

So that is what I'm organizing these days!

Thanks, Christine! Got through the rest of them tonight! This year, I'm going to print the receipts and write on them which credit card I used. I've got receipts with no credit card stmt. How does that happen?
And, I finally got my 1099 from Edward Jones. Seems like that should have been available a week ago...But now I can do my taxes.

And way to go everyone!!!

I went through excess cords for all kinds of things that are my DH's. Put them in baggies and put them in the hall closet, in a clear shoe box. I call my DH Mr. Excess, because that man loves to shop online! I wonder how many more days this will take? emoticon

Bravo Lisa and @wagglingalong. Christine, nice to have your DH thank you. I continue to find 7 items a day to get rid of and have organized and removed quite a few things from dresser and nightstand drawers. Today I plan to get books, magazines, clothing, and other stuff out of the house to either donation center or recycling bin. I like the extra space that has been freed up!

Good job with the clothes Kohl. I'm hoping to do some of that too this week! (not daughter's clothes, but my own) With all that shoveling that you've been doing, you'll soon be needing a new wardrobe for yourself!!

My three youngest girls D11, D14, and D20 are all about the same height with each weighing 10 pounds more than the sister below her. We've past down clothes for years based on size. Not so much now. So now if an item doesn't fit one of them it most likely won't fit the others. The only reason to pass clothes around now is if one of them just does't like the particular item. They did that recently so I laundered the ones that did not appeal to anyone and bagged them up to donate. I figure if they didn't like them not much chance of them selling at a one day garage sale this summer so to the thrift store they will go as soon as the frigid temperatures subside. Leaving the bag by the front door so it really happens.

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23

Got after the bathroom cabinets/drawers tonight and tossed a bunch of stuff. So messy. I put a items in to plastic zip locks to help organize some of it a little more. Also I pulled some cookbooks to donate. I also put into our recycle bin multiple containers that I do not need to save or repurpose. Every day I'm trying to get rid of 7 or more items. I did quite well today. A bag of junk hit the trash...lots of expired stuff.

I'm very reluctant to get rid of old magazines. So...each week I've promised myself that I will pry 10 of them out of my stash. These are often part of my 7 items each day.

You guys will love this. DH asked me if I was bored because I was cleaning! Ummm...haven't done this for a long time. Hence the problem!

Christine, I thought about 3 this afternoon that I should be out in the garage. It was fairly warm but the wind was really blowing; a perfect day to spend cleaning the garage!

I got a bunch of pictures mounted in a scrapbook.

Kathy, I just read your post from earlier this month. I feel overwhelmed by those drawers too. Have you ever considered empty plastic containers (sour cream, margarine, cottage cheese) or Tupperware containers that have lost their lids? They make great, cheap drawer organizers.

I've been pulling 7 or more items a day for the past month to leave the house forever. Continued this today and identified 9 magazines for recycling. Also tossed out a bunch of miscellaneous stuff. Multiple carloads of stuff has been taken to paper recycling bins or to various charities. I'm planning to continue this effort throughout 2019.

Today I STARTED to organize one of my junk drawers in my laundry room - but I was OVERWHELMED with the task!! Serioiusly, I was!! I need to find some little drawer size dividers or containers, I'm "think'n on that"... It is a mess, yet there's very little that I want to get rid of. It's things like glue gun & glue sticks, hardware (knobs, clothesline grips, etc), some sewing stuff (velcro, elastic, snaps and hooks). Next drawer over is a mess too... Discouraging!!
(This isn' t my drawer but gives the idea..)

I could join in, but I never have. I have that "I am going to bless someone else" with random stuff. Big ticket items DH and I sell on Craig's List. We just recently sold a cast iron pot with a lid that doubled as a skillet, and a conduit bender (whatever that is) Hahaha!
