A sense of lack of accomplishment. That's not true, but I still have so much to do. Wish I had a magic wand. emoticon

I walked 45 minutes yesterday, but not at my normal speed. It felt harder yesterday for some reason. When I went to write down my numbers before turning the treadmill off, I noticed I was at a 2 incline instead of .5. I asked my husband and he said, 'oh, yea I changed it when I was on it.' I was a tad impressed that a 2 instead of .5 wasn't as hard as I thought it would be once I realized what was making it harder. My speed was only down by .2. So maybe I'll keep the incline at 2.

I am also thinking about taking over some projects in the house. My husband keeps promising to do things, but hasn't and the few things he started, he hasn't finished. So I'm going to pain one of the rooms and if those things don't get done before then, I'm doing them myself or calling someone to do it.

Fear of failure is understandable. Good planning (and following the plan) will lessen that fear.

When I prepared for my first 1/2 marathon, initially the only person I told was my father because he is always supportive of my goals. However, I also had the support of a charity organization that was training me for the race. Later as my mileage increased from 1 mile to 2, etc, I began to tell others. I was still selective about who I told because of my past history of starting and not finishing similar projects.

Even after I finished the race there were some people I did not tell, but instead showed them the medal I received. A bit arrogant, I know, but oh so satisfying.

So, what I am trying to say is not important to tell everyone, just the ones who you know will be supportive of you no matter what the final outcome. And that it is okay to worry a bit about the outcome.

I'm having a super busy (but good) day at work.

I'm trying to figure out a 'plan' to get ready for a race in July and I'm nervous about telling people about the race because I'm afraid to fail.

I know I always feel better when I get rid of something I have avoided. I don't why I avoid things so long in light of that good feeling. I guess it is just human nature.

Thank you. This one is definitely a life lesson. I reckon I didn't learn anything the first time... fooling myself into thinking I knew what was going on, when I really didn't.

I reckon y'all have figured out that I finally did my balancing... and everything balanced, but there is a WHOLE LOT less than what I thought was in there. Bad enough we may have to postpone a much desired and needed vacation. :(

I will never let this happen again!

I once heard that it's only a mistake if you don't learn from it. And I find that it's true. As long as you learn from it, it is then a life lesson, not a mistake. So consider this your turning point in learning, not a mistake. It will make going forward easier.

The hard reality of real consequences for putting off an important task for so long. When will I learn? It's not the first time... but it is the last. Now I have to assess where I am and go forward.

Many things are easier said than done, but I heard a quote one time that went something like this; shortcuts are roads that lead to places not worth going.

I am almost up to my time and speed on the treadmill as when I had to quit. I'm so excited. I really thought it would take me longer to get back to where I was.

So much what I do is just out of bad habit or poor planning. So for me, it is so true that if I just do it, it becomes a new (and hopefully) a better habit. Easier said than done. emoticon

I'm glad it helped. What a great motivator; if you don't get it done on your off-days, it interferes with time with your family. Plus if you only push to do one or two things on your list or 10 minutes of something, you still have some time to yourself on your off-days. Good luck and let me know if I can help in any way.

That's a good idea. just a little at a time. I have been so overwhelmed at the time this will take that I've put it off ... making it worse each month. I'm off most Mondays... and if I know my entire off day won't be spent doing something I hate.. then perhaps I can get it done a month at a time as you suggested each day I'm off work. I also don't like doing that task when the family is home... so it's only off-days in the mornings I have. Who knows... once I finally make myself do it, I might do 2 months in one day. LOL!

Thank you so much!

(and I need to do a 10 minute clean as well right about now. :)

What wonderful suggestions. I am going to aim for tacking a "ten minute" clean prior to doing other things when I get home. I think that will keep me going to do a bit more during the week.

Renee, I use to do that too and in fact am starting to get back into that habit. I eventually made 'rules' for myself. I wouldn't allow myself to watch TV, check FB or other things until at least one or two things on my to-do list were done. Also my suggestion for the checkbook is to take it one month at a time. Set up a 'schedule' to do one month of balancing every couple days. Before you know it, it will feel more manageable and it will get done.

I told myself last night that today (my day off) would be the day to take care of my check book. I told myself this morning that I would get it done first thing... right after I check facebook... and sparks... and respond to messages... and drink my coffee... and do the dishes... and do a little laundry... and eat breakfast... and sit on my porch in the sunshine for a bit... and watch a cool horror movie... and ....

this is how it always goes.

I've not balanced since last August, so it's overwhelming to me... not to mention I know it's going to take a long while and there are so many other things I want to do!

LUVPOETESS - Start with organizing your thoughts first. An unorganized brain can't organize other things. First start with organizing and setting boundaries - Examples:

Make a rule for yourself when sorting through things. By focusing on a rule instead of the item, you'll more realistic about the value and importance of that item. Otherwise you simply go through things and stir up emotions and once your in an emotional state everything seems important. For example, trow away anything that hasn't been used in a year, 6 months, etc.

Put things you barely or never use in a box and put it away. See if you ever search to find something in those boxes. Sometimes after not using something for a while, you realize how unnecessary it is and it's easier to throw away.

Take sentimental items and minimize them as well as display them. Sentimental items don't remind you of someone or some event if they are out of sight. At best they only stir up our memories when we're trying to clean and therefore make it harder to organize and clean. Find a way to display them. It will surprise you to find that memories only need an item to help remember them at first. Before you know it, you'll even be weeding that stuff out. Cut emblems off of things and make a collage to hang up. Actually wear the T-shirts from vacations (you'd be surprised how long they will last - My husband has t-shirts that are 15 years old or more and wears them every week, which means they get washed every week too.) Take pictures of things that are simply too large to do anything else with - Especially clothes, furniture or large family hand-me-downs. Find or take a picture of yourself wearing it, sitting by it or of a family member sitting by it. Then donate the item. I have a coat that I loved and when I gained weight, it didn't fit anymore. I held onto it for a long time until I realized that if I loved it, so would someone else - because my closet wasn't enjoying it. I also have a quilt my grandmother made from my mothers pants. Both of those people are gone now and I refuse to use it because it is soo special to me, but no one ever sees it in a box in the basement. So I got a decorative rod and it's now hanging on my living room wall. And every time someone comes over I can tell the story of the quilt as well as the stories associated with those two people. That opportunity never comes if nothing is displayed.

Learn how to scrapbook. Or at the very least learn how to organize pictures and label them. It's a wonderful way to weed some of them out. Lets face it, how many pictures do you 'need' of the same sunset? Pick the few best and be done with the rest. If your afraid to throw them out right away, display the good ones and in a year you'll probably 'want' to throw them away because they'll be in the way. And since you've already displayed the good ones, who needs the rest? Then display it nicely. People don't want to search through boxes of pictures, but they love to look through an album or scrapbook. But no one will look through an entire album of one sunset. Be sure to organize that too - will you have an album for each occasion, each year, etc. You'll also find that you look through them more too. I've also found that with scrapbooking I'm pickier about how many pictures I take, what I take pictures of and even how I take the picture.

Last - But never least. Don't get more stuff to replace what you weeded out. While on vacation or at a significant event, be conscious to not buy things that you can't use or don't have room for.

Also, once you come up with a plan and a list of rules - take it one step at a time. Set those rules into order and or decide what type of items you'll go through first. When I do my big spring cleaning, I make a list of each little thing I'm going to do; dust, sort drawers, move furniture, sweep, etc. Then as I do each thing and cross something off the list it motivates me to do more. It also breaks down, what seems like an impossible project, into manageable tasks. Before you know it, those manageable tasks build up to an impossible project being possible.

And if you need more ideas, please let me know.

I have more stuff than I have room for, and I don't want to (or know how to) get rid of any of it.
I HAVE been packing up the two sizes of clothing I've dropped since coming to SP. I want to give them to people I know, but that only delays getting rid of them.

I have a new male friend who I dare not invite over. It'll end the relationship before it has a real chance to get started.

This is a real struggle for me. I've read that clutter can't be organized, but I can't seem to throw it away.

I'm struggling with getting caught up. I simply don't feel like doing anything and there is so much that needs done. I'm also struggling to make decisions. Like whether to just go another week of 'resting' my toe or call a dr.

JAZZERJR - As much as we are focused on getting fit and organized we must always face the fact that things will never be 100% in order. There are times we must simply put aside our to-do list and do what our mind, heart and/or body is calling for. It is just as important to organized yourself inside as it is to organized outside. We have all been cooped up all winter and need a break. So take it. And be proud that you want to take a break that is healthy and good for you instead of running to food. At the very least I'm sure you have an outside to-do list too or you can take something outside with you to work on, like sorting mail. But don't get discouraged, give yourself what you need.

Frustration must be one of the worst feelings ever. However if you can use the 'strength' in that emotion to do something, you'll feel better when the frustration is gone. If what your doing is frustrating you, switch to something completely different; more physical or less physical, something that takes concentration or something mindless. It's worth a try.

Here, Here! Me too!

You must begin to think of yourself as becoming the person you want to be.
You must do the thing you think you cannot do.
Your goals, minus your doubts, equal your reality.
You're never beaten until you admit it.
You've got to say, I think that if I keep working at this and want it badly enough I can have it. It's called perseverance.

I am still struggling with sever insomnia, sleeping only about 3-4 hours a night has turned me into a great big ball of emotions and I feel like part of the walking dead :/

I'm not sure if anyone else has experienced this, but I have been medicated with many different sleep aids and they will work for about 3 days and then it's like I all of a sudden have an immunity to them. They no longer help. For some reason pain relievers and such do the exact same thing.

I use to sleep every day when I got home. It did horrible things to me. I would sleep after work and then couldn't sleep at night and would be tired for the next day's work and fall asleep at the computer. I even got caught and written up for it once.

I enjoyed a blog yesterday and I even took notes. I have discovered through the challenge she gave that there are certain areas I need to focus on. Like I seem to loose control at lunch time and there are certain emotions that seem to throw me out of control; depression, anger, boredom, frustration, loneliness, etc. Part of me feels more empowered, because instead of thinking this thing is too big, I can work on these one or two specific things and it seems more manageable. But I'm always up for suggestions, so if anyone else has struggled with these things, please feel free to give some input.

Not feeling pro-active or productive at this moment. But the day is still young, I have time to kick it up.

BROOKLYNROSE - it happens to all of us, but I have learned different 'tricks' to play on myself. Like; I let my brain do all of it's crazy thinking and when I think it's done, I start using the logical side of my mind and find a realistic conclusion. I also tell myself sometimes that if I just wait it out, my brain will circle back to reality some time soon. It isn't always easy to know which one is the right one to do, but sometimes I find it kinda fun, like a game.

Deciding what you want your life to be like is not hard. Deciding what you are willing to do and give up to get it, is the hard part.

I will do what I need to do in order to do what I want to do.

What you do and say is a reflection of who you are, so decide who you want to be and do it.

Oh my. I am so sorry hear about your accident. I am looking forward to the replies regarding alternative exercises. I have a foot problem, too.

While on the treadmill yesterday, the belt slipped and I fell. However the treadmill is in the corner of the room so my other foot got stuck between the wall and the end of the treadmill and the belt 'pulled' my foot under it. My big toe hurts like crazy. I'm sure it isn't broken, but it has a nasty bruise and is swollen. So, I'm gonna have to work on changing the treadmill set-up. I was also wondering if anyone had any ideas on what to do until my toe heals. I don't want to quit walking, but I don't want to damage the toe either.

MUSIC2HISEARS - First of all I love your screen name and secondly I hate insurance and how they have the right to dictate what you need and what you don't and therefore they end up deciding the fate of your health instead of you. My biggest suggestion is to call the clinic your dr referred you to and see if they can work out a payment plan, or if they have any kind of paperwork you can fill out to look for financial help. Also, sometimes, if a dr is willing, a dr can write the insurance company and the insurance company will make an exception. I once had a nephew who went to counseling for free because my mother-in-law found an organization that would help him financially. Good luck and I hope something works out for you.

I'm struggling with my insurance today. My therapist wants me to go to an eating disorder clinic for the binging; however, where she sent me isn't in my insurance network.

I'm tired of living on the sidelines...I'm ready to get into the race!!!!!

Thanks a million for the understanding. I don't know if I can express enough how much that means to me.

You have my prayers, too. I understand the patience, as well as love, a brother sometimes require.

Yesterday was a GREAT day. My brother got out of jail the day before yesterday and yesterday morning he texted me to ask if I could pick him up and take him to church / Celebrate Recovery with me. I was so ecstatic that I was going to be able to spend time with my brother and that he seems to be making great choices the moment he got out of jail. I love my family so much and I want good things for them. I just keep praying for them every day.

Congratulations on your resolve. Change, no matter how wonderful, can really throw you off track. Your determination is admirable.

Feeling a little of the blahs lately. There have been a lot of changes in the things in my life and I hate change, let alone that it all happened in the last two weeks. I'm going to try and take it easy this week and recuperate. It has gotten in the way of my walking, but I'm hoping to get back on track today. I've felt under the weather and thought I needed the rest more than the exercise. But even at that I only missed one day of walking the last two weeks. So overall, I'm still doing good.
