I have to be diligent about caring for myself. 100 DAYS OF WEIGHT LOSS is a great way for me to keep focused. Day 1 is July 1, 2017. Build habits to produce success. Most of these habits I have at least tried before but did not sustain. First habit: delay eating by using a timer.

That's so much for the sound advice. Looks like everyone is on a bit of an overload. So, let's all make ourselves a priority - even if is just for a short period.

Take good care of yourself! It is so easy to see what everyone else needs and put ourselves last. This morning I had to put myself first, eventhough the world was kinda crashing around me!

I decided I would NOT take on the duties some other people should be doing. Everyone had an excuse.

I did my best then shut myself in the office with sparkpeople.

DH was not happy, but he survived. The health aide agency boss got my message that THEY should handle the situation, not me!

DH could have used his Life Alert button to get help but he 'forgot' to use it.

Maybe next time he is in bed hours longer than he should be he will remember the Life Alert button!

Jackie, don't beat yourself up about not being able to do as much with the heat being the way it has been. Taking care of yourself and creating a healthy lifestyle consists of more than eating and exercising - we must also ALWAYS take EVERYTHING into consideration when doing what's best for ourselves.

I'm finally getting a chance to check in with people. It's sad when your job feels like more of a relaxing and stress-free activity than your home life. I've been taking care of my sister since her surgery, driving all over the place for my family and trying to 'help' out. Then we're also having a friend's son stay with us for the week and my husband is leaving for a week on Thursday. When he gets back, he'll start work again. So needless to say, my life is CRAZY right now and I can't wait for it to be over.

I had a real setback! i was doing well and then severe fatigue set in. Apparently by me neglecting to actually get my thyroid medicine, my thyroid hormones went way down. Number 4 and should be number 87! So I am dealing with major fatigue. I need to be patient till this rights itself.

I did have the mail order pharmacy contact my doctor weeks ago. I did not call the doctor myself. I guess I should have. I did not followup--because I was too tired and overwhelmed with being a caregiver to my husband. Also I retired and had a couple of events to go to. Thank god the fatigue did not set in until after that!

Sounds like all of us are in the same boat. I've struggled with my weight for the last 10 years also and have the same struggles.

Jackie, is it possible that you feel like you deserve a 'reward' after working so hard to meet goals throughout the day. I mention it because I know I do that a lot. I've been working hard at finding other ways to 'treat' myself at the end of the day. Some of the things I do / use are; playing computer games or some kind of word search game, spending some time on FaceBook, Just laying in bed listening to music, instead of treating myself I sometimes treat my dogs - their looks of happiness and joy, make me happy and I set aside time before bed to journal so some of the emotions from the day don't pile up.

I also started drinking one glass of wine in the evenings around dinner time. I've read that it's good for your heart and a friend and I went wine tasting last weekend and I found a couple I like, so I decided it was going to be something I can do that is enjoyable and good for me each day.

Jackie, you are not alone. I have been trying for at least 10 years to lose these 35 pounds. TEN YEARS! I don't have unrealistic goals, I don't want to weigh what I did in high school, I don't want to have the 18 inch waist that I had when I got married. I just want to be a size 16.
I ask myself often, "when are you going to stop "trying" & actually do this?".

So over the long weekend with Mom, I had to deal with the usual issues with her dementia - denial, frustration, anger, etc. However, there was one thing that she keep commenting on that made me realize I how much I self-sabotage my healthy eating. Overall, I make healthy choices - lots of veggies, no fried meats, etc. and exercise in some form daily. However, at the end of the day or when I am tired, I revert to unhealthy snacking.

So the big question is: do I believe or really want to believe that I can be a healthy weight? Or am I just going through the motion, fooling only myself?

Stay tune...

Janice, don't fret about what stage your in, the more you accept your situations, etc., the more likely you are to be able to move on. I should really start taking my own advice.

I'm doing pretty well. My brother has started drawing again and I'm so excited to see how he does. I know it seems like a silly thing to be excited about, but he was the one who always encouraged me to draw and made me promise to not stop after I graduated because he had stopped and regretted it. For the longest time he kept saying that he lost his talent because of the drugs he did, so it's such a blessing to see him even try.

Janice, I'm there with you. I know a lot, but I can't bring myself to do it most of the time. I read something from a self-help book the other day that said there are 4 stages and it's important to know what stage your in. 1. Denial, 2. Conscious of it, but not working on it, 3. Planning what to do about it, and 4. Doing it. I think I'm somewhere between 2 and 3. I can make great plans, but can't seem to carry them out. Maybe what we should focus on in this stage is figuring out how to get to the next stage. I've started with studying a scripture, Philippians 4:8 that says whatever is pure, noble, right, lovely and true, think on these things. I've learned that my habits won't change until my thoughts do, so I've started there. I'm excited to know where you are and what you plan to do.

I went swimming again yesterday and had fun again. I had to take my brother home afterward and one of my friends was so worried about me driving when I was tired, she called me when I got home to make sure I got home okay. I love this group of friends soo much, I can't express how much they mean to me.

"Your casa is my casa"----help me out here.......meaning
I have or had all the thoughts you are struggling with.

I finally got over the bathing suit thing. I now
go often to water aerobics. If I catch my reflection I cringe at my big stomach and wiggly hips but it does not stop me. I am getting healthier and the water aerobics is a big piece of the puzzle.

I used to cancel going to parties just at the last minute. I figured I was dull and fat and they would not miss me anyway. Now I know from watching others that my weight is not the problem. If I am smiley and joke around people will welcome me! They all have their own hangups!

Oh Lord! Eating in the same house as my husband has always been a nightmare for me.
I have made 2 different meals for as long as I can remember. He never wanted any vegetables or anything that looked like it might be healthy. I was always struggling with my weight. He'd sabotage me time and time again for many years till I finally broke free.

Well not eating healthy got him a stroke at age 59! So now for sure I eat what I want no matter what he wants. I give him the meat and potatoes and desserts he wants, I try not to overdo it. But I don't work too hard to fuss with his meals. I work really hard to have lots of vegetables for myself If I am feeling grumpy, . I say things like, "Oh you would not want this, it is healthy food." Usually I offer him what I have, but he never--and I mean never--- takes it.

He is in a motorized wheelchair and can't stand. He is bored stiff and expects me to be his entertainment. He watches me do everything!!! It drives me nuts ! He could so lots more and have hobbies and contact his friends but he refuses.

Once long ago I actually managed to get to a healthy weight. 142 . I still remember that. He did everything he could to make it hard for me. I am quite resentful that he did not support my efforts. I am obese but have stopped blaming him (I think). I am just working on myself the best I can. I love myself now for myself no matter what my weight is. I had to dress up for my retirement events this summer. I went out an bought some clothes. The photos show a big lady--but a lady with huge smiles and lots of good friends. My daughter was proud of me at the events. I had a blast. My birthday in June, I announced on SP and loads of friends sent greetings. So, it can be done. Hopefully, soon, I can actually start to get my weight done more. You can, too. Chris

Thanks for the encouragement Janice, I really appreciate it and ya I can be the worst critic of them all. It's hard for me to think healthy when all I can think about is that I now weigh 300lb. A friend of mine and I use to say that if we ever got this big (she's gained a lot too) we were going to shoot each other and put us out of our misery. Some days I wonder when she's gonna show up with a gun. But the thing that has just started to bother me the most is that my mom was 39 when she died and weighed about 300 or more lb. I just turned 34 and I keep thinking if I don't get this off, I'll be dead by then too.

Weekends are hard. I always want to relax and let go for the weekend but I can do some serious damage over the course of one weekend. Even to the point of gaining back 5 lb i lost during the week.

I'm right with ya on the weekend eating. It is tough. That's my biggest pitfall. And eating out. I'm doing a bit better on limiting the eating out but! It's the decisions I make that get me in trouble sometimes! My inner brat comes out. :). My goal this week is to try and eat what the spark menu gives me. It helps cuz I def don't eat enough veggies and fruit. My protein is always short as well. Next week will be full on spark as I had already bought the weeks groceries when I decided this for this week. But if I had it I followed it.

Now if I could just bring myself to tackle the home office...can you say disaster area? Hubby just switched son's room and the office. He put the big furniture in place but the rest he left in the middle of the floor! Most of it is my craft stuff I really need to go through. Sigh.

I went through this a few years ago on a very hot Saturday night. My DH had invited all of his local cousins over for a dip in our pool. As I sat on the sidelines in my jeans & long-sleeved T-shirt, I suddenly though "why?". I went inside, put on my swimsuit & joined in the fun!
No one laughed at me. No one made whale jokes. The just included me in all the games. It was a real eye opener. Sometimes we can be our biggest critics!
So darned proud of you!

A friend of ours just got a new pool and has been begging me to come 'play.' Saturday I had an excuse that my leg was bandaged from an injury but yesterday I didn't have an excuse and it was sooo hot. I've been trying to talk myself into being okay with being in a bathing suit since I found out they were getting one, and I didn't do too bad. I kept telling myself that these people (our motorcycle group) loves me for who I am and they won't stop loving me just because they see me in a bathing suit. Of cores I couldn't get that little voice to shut up that keeps saying "yes they will." And you know what? I was right. Although I was still self-conscious about my looks because of my weight (so I tried to either stay under the water or have a towel around me.) But they all treated me like I was just one of them and I felt so loved at such a vulnerable time. It was probably one of the greatest moment of my 'fat life.' I never thought I'd feel like that as long as I was fat.

I'm wondering if this might be a turning point for me.

Congrats on the new place, and good for you, for working at making better decisions. I'm also struggling with similar things. My husband is supportive of me changing, but he doesn't want to change and it makes things harder. So I am working on the mental state that I don't have to do the same things he does.

I sure hope so!
This weekend, I took cut up veggies to have instead of chips & DH even enjoyed them wth ranch dressing as a dip.
I also fixed white wine spritzers using diet Sprite. These were okay, but I will try to find other mixed drinks.
Substituting lower calorie treats for high calorie ones will be my strategy!

I understand. I experienced a similar problem.. My co-workers go to lunch everyday. To me, going out to eat is a treat and I did not make good healthy selections. Instead I treat every lunch like a special occasion. As a consequence, I started gaining weight.

I finally had to stop going. Luckily for me I found a way to stop joining them without hurting anyone's feelings.

Perhaps, after the newness of place, maybe your husband will stop treating it as a vacation place. Or maybe you will be able to modify.

However, I think it is wonderful that you are maintaining. I could not do that.

I'm struggling with weekend food.
Ever since we purchased a place at the lake, my DH & I go there every weekend. The problem is, he wants to eat like we are on a vacation all the while we are there. Fast food, junk food, ice cream, drinks on the deck & huge breakfasts. I work all week just to get rid of what I gained the previous weekend.
So far, I am maintaining, but I need to be LOSING. I'm frustrated.

I am struggling with feeling under the weather. Chris

Jackie - I totally understand, sometimes I feel that way too, but I remember something my counselor told me "feelings are not facts." So just because you feel like your incompetent, doesn't mean you are. Then take time to reminisce about all the things you've done in the past. At the very least, it should motivate you to not give up.

Life_restarted - Don't be too hard on yourself. My biggest suggestion would be to make a to-do-list and do one thing at a time. As you cross things off it tends to motivate you to do the next thing. You might also want to start with a task your very good at or like to do. Sometimes I also break down each task into smaller tasks (especially when starting out) and each time I cross something off, I get motivated to do the next step. Taking time in the beginning can really save you time later. It stops us from doing things hap-haphazardly.

Never mistake failure as final

Deciding what you want your life to be like is not hard. Deciding what you are willing to do and give up to get it, is the hard part.

I will do what I need to do in order to do what I want to do.

What you do and say is a reflection of who you are, so decide who you want to be and do it.

I'm struggling with which direction to take.
1. Concentrate on organization
2. Give up on the mess I call home
3. Try to find someway to tackle both

I strange feeling of incompetence. Kinda harda to explain. However, my short term solution is just to keep plodding along. I will shake this feeling soon.

I sure am struggling with fatigue and sleepiness for about a week now. I sure hope I can figure out the exact cause. I am sleeping my days away! (again) Chris

Wow!! You have certainly accomplished a lot!

I never believed that organic veggies could be that much tastier than others. I think it is the fact that the veggies were harvested locally.

So far I have made a garlic bok choy dish (a receipe adapted from Spark Receipes) and a honey/herb carrots. Both were delicious!

The avocado was nice and creamy and I did not have to wait for it to ripen.

I am going to try the "more fruit" box next.

I'd love that too. I've also never heard of it, but what a GREAT idea.

I had a pretty productive weekend. I painted a bed, broke down a desk that wasn't salvageable, started sanding trim for the room we are working on and got laundry done. I also got to visit with my sister and a friend and rented some Wii games to try for exercise. I've also been doing pretty well with my eating, but not so much with the quality of food, so I'll focus on that next.

I signed up for a veggie and fruti home delivery service. Received my first box today. I am wondering how I will prepare it to showcase its freshness.

Chris, remember ALL things need balance. Including the 'healthy' stuff. I know your smart and I know you can figure it all out. Good luck and I'll pray for you.

Yep, I think a lot of vegetables - especially raw veggies can upset your stomach.

Feel better soon.

Jackie - LOL. Maybe! My pastor once tole me that those times when you wake wide up in the middle of the night or morning, it's God's way of saying He misses you and wants to spend time with you.

Yep, relaxation is important. Yesterday, I did just that. However, I did wake up and could not go back to sleep.. I tossed in a load of laundry and declutter one area. Then I went back to sleep and slept like a baby.

Hmm...Subconscious guilt or something? emoticon
