I think the biggest risk with protein in excess would be that if you are getting a bunch of protein you probably aren't getting enough of other nutrients. But I agree with you Val, anything in moderation is the best policy.

You're probably right, but if he has too much of his protein drink he said it does him in! I think again, everything in moderation is the key, too much of anything, even if it is good, turns out to be bad for you. I had a friend's daughter that loved broccoli and ate it to excess, the Dr. made her stop and said it would harm her if she didn't! (long story short). But if that is not the case for protein emoticon

You really can't get too much protein.. any excess is just expelled in your urine like someone else mentioned but if you go over your protein amount for the day and get in your ranges for the the rest of your nutrients you'll probably end up going over your calorie range.

As for the constipation.. I think he's thinking of too much iron ;)

DH said, you have to be careful with too much because you might become constipated and that is a very uncomfortable feeling. Again, try the health articles under P for protein and see if there is any type of information to educate us on the side effects of too much protein...I will read up also as promised and get back to you all. Love the discussion emoticon emoticon

I am also having a hard time getting enough protein. I think I am going to buy some protein bars for afternoon snacks.

I'm not sure, but I think that extra protein is expelled in your urine (sorry if TMI). My sister is a nutritionist and I think that's what happens.

My problem is the opposite, though - I can't get enough protein. And I'm usually slightly over on my fat goals for the day. I guess that's what happens when you like dairy more than meat. :)

I go with the old adage "Everything in moderation". On your Nutritional page, where you record your daily intake, on the bottom of the page it gives you your numbers for the day. The numbers are in line with your personal diet plan (diet as in what you are encouraged to eat for the day) that SP set up for you.
My protein recommended daily intake is 60-137.
I'm not sure of the effects of going over that number but I will check it out and get back to you.

I don't think it is bad but maybe someone else knows for sure.
