I was a complete emotional mess with my first one. A glass of wine sat by me for the night. This time, though I haven't begun to sleep train him yet (4 months), I tend to go towards a hot herbal tea when I'm struggling emotionally with him (he had colic). Good luck, Mama!

Maybe do some light cleaning, like dusting or wiping down countertops in the kitchen and baths. Or do some bodyweight exercises like squats and pushups! emoticon

Find something productive to do during those 5 minutes. Go on the computer and come and do a Spark People Video. Most are 5-10 minutes.

Maybe during those five minutes you can walk laps around the house or walk stairs if you have them. Use the five minutes to catch up on laundry, dishes, etc.

I'm trying to sleep train my 7 month old, and it's hard. I feel confident that I'm doing what's best for us, but it's still really awful to hear her struggle. Emotional/stress eating has always been a problem for me. I'm finding that when I'm trying to wait the 5 minutes between checking in on her, I'll just shovel food in! A spoon, a jar of peanut butter and some chocolate chips has been my go to. Help!! What else can I do while trying to help this little one learn to sleep on her own?!
