I have used Beano through out the years. There are times that it doesn't work for me. Kidney beans, black bones, etc. just bother me no matter what! The bad thing is that I love to eat them in chili and southwestern dishes.

I don't really notice any problems with food, except some times tomato sauce, onions, peppers and such can give me heart burn. But a lot of times I can eat them with no problem, especially when I am eating in moderation. If I try to over eat, then any thing can bother me.

But so far I am still doing really well.

I don't think I can eat the broccoli even with the Beano and I don't know about cauliflower. I had cole slaw and did okay. Unless that is still causing problems. I am having problems still today after Friday and I haven't had anything with wheat since then. Both my arms are hurting and they do that whenever the gas gets bad. I don't know what is causing this. The D has stayed away, though.

I use Beano before I eat broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, onions, and beans, of course. I haven't tried it with wheat products but that is interesting. The Beano works great for me and I can often eat things I wouldn't dare to otherwise.

Darlene....I haven't tried taking Beano before eating anything with gluten. I will have to try that. I try to avoid anything with wheat as much as I can, and even that with sugar. I find if I do that I don't bloat. But it is hard to do.

Goodmorning everyone! Sorry I was out of pocket yesterday but apparently sleep deprevation caught up with me. After my blood work I came home, and crashed. My wonderful husband of 30 years made a home made chicken noodle soup for me, woke me up, I had a bowl, and crashed again.

I have been tested for Celiac disease several times and they were always normal. As for the gluten thing, well that has never been an issue before but who knows. It's worth looking into. This started suddenly last June and has been with me almost daily since. As I said, I believe this is more than simple IBS. Even IBS safe foods are causing severe cramping, fruits, vegetables, sourdough, I think I am ready for Gerber Baby food next. I found something called Microscopic Colitis which pretty much describes my symptoms. It can start out of the blue and last for days, months, or years. It's going on a year, and I pray it ends soon. I barely get 800 calories in me now as it is. I need to call my Gastro back and really push the issue. My dad has to have both legs stents replaced as they are collapsed on the 1st or a possible bypass in each, so after that I will call him.

Janine, can you take Beano before eating anything with wheat and have it help? I got some more of that in case I end up with something with wheat. I haven't had it really bad with tortillas, but those are starting to cause a problem if I have too many. I seem to get by with one once in a while. But sure can't do much more than that. I was okay Thursday, but not since having the wheat stuff on Friday. Still problems today, but took something so I am hoping it helps.

I had a busy but good day. I felt well all day. After dinner hubby had bought a cherry pie. I had a piece and have been bloated and miserable since that time.

DJ - welcome back. It is good that you have focused on eating and doing better. Please keep in contact, we want to hear of your success.

Janine - I have been tested a couple of times for Celiac disease. I have never been diagnosed with it. I do have similar symptoms with you regarding the bloating, etc.

Fancy - good advice about gluten intolerance and celiac. Since I have not been diagnosed with celiac, for me I may need to go gluten free.

Janette - glad that you are doing well.

Mamabeck - so sorry that the soup and crackers caused you such pain. I agree with Fancy. If you have celiac disease, you probably find wheat in most products.

I too have gluten intolerance. It can really cause problems, especially when I overindulge. The bloating is bad at times and although I know better than to partake in eating food with wheat, I still do at times and suffer for it. Good luck with figuring out what is going on.

Mamabeck, Have you tried cutting out all wheat and see if that will help? I know that I had mentioned that I was told that the celiac test doesn't show anything unless you are eating wheat. I have also heard of a lot of people who are gluten intolerant that are never confirmed with celiac. I was having problems with bread and rolls (which I used to be able to eat with no problem) and cut out any with yeast and started feeling better. For that reason my doctor started suspecting the celiac. And increasing wheat just before the test got me sick and in pain for several days after. It might be that you are just gluten intolerant. Also, most products seem to have wheat in them in some way, so you really have to look to see.

DJ, I am glad that you are doing better and have been able to figure out many of your triggers. I hope that continues for you.

Hey all! it's been a while since I've posted. After months pain, and blood in my stool, lots of medical tests and expensive medical bills, I think I've gotten my latest (and worst) IBS flair-up under control.

A few things I've learned about me through this process:
1) I love cheese, but the feeling is not mutual. Lactose pretty much guarantees an IBS attack.
2) Soda, especially artificial sweeteners taste great going down, but stuck coming out. Again, something else that guarantees I'll have a flairup.
3) Starchy foods (breads, pasta's), are tolerated as long as they are eaten 1-2 times a day, and in small portions, otherwise, things get ugly.
4) Big meals cause big pain.

I've spent the last month focused on my eating and activity behaviors. It's been hard, I'm not going to kid anyone, but I finally am starting to feel "normal" for the first time in a long time. Actually, I feel better than normal, which is better.

My hope is that my IBS does not flair up again for a very long time (never would be awesome, but who am I kidding), and that I've identified my key triggers.

Basically, 6 small meals a day, that consist of protein carb's (carb's = fruits, and occasional bread product) veggies, with no processed foods has resulted in the most improvement.
I've managed to get to the gym 4 days a week for the past 4 weeks. While I have a ton of weigh to lose (170+ lbs), I am feeling better and moving better this week (finally), and my IBS is not flaring up.

Have you been checked for celiac? The noodles and crackers could be bothering you because of the gluten.

Well had a can of Chicken Noodle Soup and some crackers. Went to bed and 30 minutes later was doubled up, and squalling from shear agony. Needless to say, I did not maintain the soup. I have had IBS 26 years and this is not IBS. I am going to get my thyroid counts checked tomorrow, as I believe they have dropped from the weight loss. Trying to stay positive and you are an amazing group of individuals that makes me smile. I hope you all have a wonderful rest of the week. I am praying every day and believe that eventually I will have some answers and some relief. For now late nights and heating pads re my best friends!! emoticon emoticon

I had a pretty good day. I had something fried to eat today and ended up with a lot of gas. But the D isn't there. So I am thankful. I see my gastro doctor tomorrow. It is another check up since my endoscopy and the colonoscopy.

Janine - great about the water. I agree that I keep the water close. It does seem to help.

Ebonysol - sorry about the fibro. I don't have it but I have friends that do. It sounds awful.

Mamabeck - so glad that you saw progress on the scale.

Janette - I hope that you are well.

Well after a really rough day yesterday and a lot of sleep I am having a little bit better day. Had organic oatmeal for breakfast and right now eating white rice with chicken broth. I had all the fun I could take and did some heavy research and the symptoms are really close to Microscopic Colitis. It's the only thing that makes sense and would occur daily and last for a year. I am going to print it off and ask the doctor if it is a possibility. Hopefully it will not offend him.

On the positive side I did power through and did some strength exercises yesterday and stepped in place. I also lost more weight. I had set a mini goal of 30 pounds by April and I am now 2 pounds from that. I am confident I will see that next week.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Saw my rheumatologist for my yearly checkup. He had diagnosed my fibromyalgia years ago. Later he told me that IBS was fibro of the digestive system. This year I got some more initials added to my chart ME/CFS aka chronic fatigue syndrome which he informs me is a worsening of the fibro. No they don't know much about or what to do for it but if he hears anything new in one of the conferences he attends he will have his office call me. Yeah, right. Too tired to figure it out right now. Lol

Slow and steady wins the race.

On the celiac tests, I was told on another team that they don't show anything if you are not eating wheat, so the last couple of days I had wheat and got the blood test drawn yesterday. I don't know if I had eaten and digested enough to make that workable. But after the day yesterday I know that wheat must have something to do with the gas attacks I get. I thought I was going to have a heart attack last night. Also the wheat things increased my carbs (one of them was cake because what I wanted they didn't have) and I ended up so sleepy I had trouble just getting ready for bed, so going back to lower carbs for sure. It was a little funny trying to eat cake. I only got through half the slice and was tired of it. Last year if I ate anything with carbs I couldn't stop eating them. So I was very happy about that.

My friend and I also went to a barbecue place on the way to practice last night and that didn't bother me, so I think (hope) we have found some answers.

Thanks, so far today I am doing better. I did try some peppermint tea first thing in the am, but didn't seem to help any. Then later I tried some chamomile tea too. The IB seemed to help the most yesterday, but I very rarely take any pain meds any more. All the best to you and your loved ones.

Glad it eased up. I also find that either peppermint tea or fennel tea are great along with a heating pad for relaxing the stomach muscles when they are really intense. I am wondering if my Hashimotos Autoimmune Thyroid could also be part of this puzzle. I may check into that as well. Still pushing through and exercising what I can within the house. My knee is definitely injured so I believe it will take a couple of months of rehab, if that doesn't help then off to the Orthopeadic for what I believe will be a surgical repair. Since I had surgery last year on my other knee for a tear, I am familiar with the exercises and unfortunately the way it feels. As soon as we get Mom through the last 3 Chemo treatments and 5 weeks of radiation treatments, then my husband will be able to take me Dr and if necessary therapy. Bless his heart he has to be ready to run after a year of doctor appts every week between the 3 of us.

thanks for the info. I am not sure why, but I was really cramping up today off and on and it was even getting to my lower back. Reminded me of my old bad TOM cramping, but I haven't had that for 4 yrs now. And luckily it didn't get to D. I took an IB and did some yoga, stretching and walking and it went away luckily.

Good for you FancyQtr sounds like your doctor is on top of things. I am not diabetic and surprisingly, never have been, I have been tested for celiac disease 3 times and gluten and everything shows normal. I was cramping all night so I did some research last night since none of my symptoms this past year have been acting like IBS. I went to the NDDIK I think that's right and just went down the list of every stomach illness listed. There is such a thing as Sudden Dumping Syndrome and Microscopic Colitis which is the strongest candidate for my symptoms to date. I am going to print these two off and ask my doctor next time I see him to see what he thinks.

Legs along I have had it hit me as soon as I walk through the door so I seldom get out or I take immodiums an hour before I leave. Of course I am also on my sixth new med from my Gastroentroenterologist.

Leggsmalon, I definitely have had that problem almost every time leaving the house until this last month. A lot of my problem seems to have been from the metformin I have been taking. I would always have to go as soon as I left the house and would have troubhe making it to a bathroom.

Today I went to the doctor and she decided that I would stay off of it for now. Then we were talking about the G problem and that I have pretty much quit eating bread since I was having problems after eating it. She has ordered a blood test for Celiac disease. I told her that the GI doctor said there was nothing that showed up to cause my IBS and she went back and checked the endoscopy results (from 4 years ago). There was a biopsy that was a little inconclusive and it said that they needed to order a blood test to verify results. That guy never did that, just said there was nothing wrong. We now know that I have a gluten sensitivity at the least and probably celiac disease. It will take a bit longer to get the results because today I didn't have any blood for some reason. That is after I have been drinking a lot of water.

I usually just have problems when I get really stressed out, and then I have the problem not only with IBS-mixed but also with my bladder too.

All my best to you all always. I am still doing pretty good, even though I am busy dealing with having the bf's son for 2 wks straight as his mom is out of state.

Right there with you Linda! Bad a fairly decent day yesterday and then this morning the bottom fell out. Tummy was hurting most of the night so not too surprised. Checked and dropped weight again. While I can appreciate the weight loss, I certainly do NOT want it this fast, or this way. Good news, I am still doing what exercises I can within the house, so I am determined to strengthen and tone up what I can. I think the cramps are covering the stomach region lol!
Sorry I have a crazy sense of humor. Have a wonderful day everyone!

Sorry your day didn't end so well Linda. Hope you feel better soon and that feeling better will continue for a while.

I have a doctor appointment tomorrow, so will see if I can continue without the IBS problems most of the time or if I will just have to go back to treating the diabetes with the metformin which seems to cause more IBS problems.
