I try to cook for the week on the weekends. So early in the week when I come home hungry, I pull dinner out of the fridge, throw it into the microwave, and do really well. By Friday, when there is nothing healthy that doesn't require preparation, then I fall into the high calorie trap.

It's funny that you bring this up, because I deal with this too--particularly when I work late nights at work. I get hungry around that early evening time, and get all panicked 'cause I'm like "Yo, what do I do?"

It never used to occur to me to just eat dinner. lol Like, you know what I mean? I think psychologically I would make myself wait, as if I had to wait until an assigned hour to eat, when the reality was that I was SUPPOSED to be hungry after work, because that's when dinner time occurred! I say that to say, perhaps you can begin to have dinner prepared, or a night LIGHT hors douevres (maybe even a salad as your first course, as you would if you were at a restaurant!) prepared to eat on as soon as you walk in the house (or else something that can be put together fairly easy in the beginning), to hold you while you prepare dinner; that way, you can appease your immediate hunger that's waiting on you, while you work to give your body what it really wants--that balanced end to the healthy day you began.

Just an idea; hope it helps! :o)

I know, right? Why is that? I am the same way. It's like I walk in the door and all I want is something to eat. I even tried having my afternoon snack later in the day to see if that would work. I try to save me carbs for earlier in the day, but something's got to give. I feel your pain.

My next thing to try is to try protein shakes or a salad with a protein before I leave work for the day.

I keep the 100 calorie chocolate chunk granola bars in my purse so that when I get hungry during or after I have something to hold me over until I prepare dinner and it satisfies my sweet tooth. I love chocolate.

Great tips. I normally have a fruit snack before I leave work , but it dont satify me. I guess the reason is because I have the taste for something other than a fruit or veggie by 3p because Im at work eating them all day!

I agree you need to keep a fruit/veggies and nuts on hand to grab in a hurry. I also will usually will have a small snack - like apple slices and walnuts w/ water - about 2:30/3 at work and then I'm hungry time I get home. If I am then I grab a piece of fruit (I'm loving my cherries right now). Good luck.

I like to go to the deli section and get the end pieces from the healthy meats. They are already in chunks and the are usually cheap. I would eat that with a few pieces of cheese. Something like mini appetizers.

I have this moto when I go shopping "If I don't put in my basket and take home, I can not eat it....Like CIBROOKS said, learn how to use your veggies and fruits to your advantage for that sweet tooth or that pick me up attitude. There are a lot of 100 calore snacks or deserts that you can choose from. Also think about eating mini meals about every three hours and drink plenty of water to help flush your system that will also help. That will make about three meals and three snacks that you will be having during the course of the day, Breakfast, snack... Lunch, snack...Dinner, snack, at a certain time of the evening stop all foods (especially 3 to 4 hours before you prepare for bed) and just continue drinking your water. Hope this helps.

keep health snacks with you. Things like almonds, fruits, veggies. Also start to keep healthy snacks at home I also have an issue with grabbing anything when I am hungry. Something that I had to do was stop buying the bad stuff until I was able control my urges.

Hey BBQueens,

Can you give me helpful tips or ideas on how to control my hunger afterwork, instead of going home and eating junk?

At work I eat healthy, then when I get home I want a good snack, but instead of eating something healthy I eat the 1st thing in sight.
