Sunny day in Newcastle Upon Tyne...again. I'm wondering if the reduction in pollution during lockdown has had an effect on the weather. There seems a lot more insects about than usual, as well. wonder if that is due to warm weather or lack of pollution.

That cycle ride was my last excursion before 'lock-down' on 23rd March.

I've kind of lost my courage to go out on my bicycle, run, or even walk every day! I walk to work (about 8 mins) and to the shops - and that's it!

The PM announced some new rules yesterday - from Wednesday we can go out for 'unlimited' amounts of exercise - the surfers will all be out!

It was a lovely sunny Bank Holiday weekend - the day has begun sunny here, but the temperature is set to drop again over the next few days.

Today is more overcast, but dry.

I'm going to get my wellies on and go for a stroll on the beach before lunch today - it feels almost 'naughty' to be out at the moment. I'm half-expecting a drone to buzz me and tell me to get back indoors - I wonder if it will come to that here in the UK?

God - more of the same today - it's Sunday, grey and wet. There is localised flooding on many of the roads - the plants are swimming in their flowerpots out in the courtyard............... another day for staying home!

I've been out for a swim at the pool this morning - now I'm planning to stay in for the rest of the day.

Now we're into Storm Dennis - and I can hear the wind howling outside again. I like in a terraced house kind of a street, with roads coming up from the sea - so it chicanes through these streets and makes it sound worse.

I'm wrapping up and getting out for a run anyway. We're lucky here, in the UK, that we don't often get extremes of temperature (yet!)

Well, Storm Ciara has been the main topic on the news today - and the advice was to stay indoors unless you absolutely HAD to go out. So I stayed in.

I've just been outside to anchor some things down a bit better - it's a communal area, and there are plastic chairs and recycling bins etc. It's noisy when they blow about.

I have the gym on my radar for tomorrow morning........... not sure what the weather forecast is for Monday morning.

The sun keeps trying - the daffodils are coming out, the parks are filled with blossoms. Spring is definitely on the way here.

When the magnolias in six of the Great Gardens of Cornwall have blossomed, Spring will be announced. There's a 'bloomometer'!

Jumper on; jumper off kind of weather here today - 15 c during the day. I'm not getting as much wear as I thought I would out of my warm winter boots, hats, scarves and jumpers!

I feel really tired with the dark evenings, dark mornings. Our rubbish wasn't collected last week, because of Xmas, so there are two weeks' worth of bin bags starting to pile up in the wheelie bins. The seagulls are getting excited!

Mid-Winter's Day and it's grey with torrential rain here. Such a shame - there's a big celebration in town - the main street closed for stalls and things, parade with fire-dancers, a torch-lit parade to a local recreation ground where they light a big fire at 10 pm and dance around it.

I have a cold and very low energy today - not feeling like going out to join in!

It was so windy today that they closed the local parks because of the risk of branches coming down on people. I can't believe it's only a week to Xmas Day now - there has been so much preparation that I'm almost fed up with it already!

There's a lot of mud about, blocked drains due to the leaves and other debris washed into the gutters. I'm getting tired of the sound of the wind gusting down the street - it's exhausting!

Sunday morning and it's still very breezy.

I love the relative quiet of Sunday mornings.

I had my water bill yesterday, and had to transfer some money from my ISA to cover it. It always seems a bit mean to have bills in December!

My God! There were some VERY strong gusts of wind in the night - probably there was a bin or box blowing around which made it sound worse. There is a house with some scaffolding up opposite me - that's pretty noisy in the wind.

Still pitch black out there at the moment, but I'm off to work soon. It would be nice to have a day when I don't get rained on! I have a continual collection of wet clothes and shoes drying here!

This evening I'm going out for a Xmas meal - with the people I support and some of the people I work with. It'll be nice.

Yes, I've got a bit of a backlog of laundry too - I use a communal laundry room - so need to have about 3 hours clear to do it - being able to go back and take it out of the washing machine, put it in the dryer etc.

I work 30 hours a week in a 24/7 supported living service as a support worker. I work shifts, yes. Today I had training 10-2.30. Tomorrow I start at 7.30 am and finish at 15.30.

I felt pretty depressed to see the map turn blue again - it was like Groundhog Day! But all we can do it more forwards, one day at a time.

I'm fine thanks! Although the country as a whole looks a bit blue this morning. Ha ha! I got up for an hour or so in the night to watch the election. I figured there wasn't going to be much change with an exit poll like that.

Was wet in the night but stopped now - hope to get my laundry dry before the next lot comes - did stuff that dries quick. Got rather a backlog - we've had quite a wet few months...

Ok - better get on - doing a 40 day Bible study and there's quite a lot in it so want to try and do a day each day without missing. It has helped me so far but eating is not as it should be yet - early days - still - I have made some good choices. Got two ladies to do it with by spark mail which is helpful.

Nice to get a freebie in Boots! I don't go intown much but ww will be in town so I will probably do the charity shops while there - might get some bargains. Still looking for stuff for the house after we decorated.

How about you? Are you ok? Do you work part-time shifts?

Yes, the money. I was really lucky yesterday - I went into Boots to buy some kind of bath soak stuff - and when I went to the counter I found I had enough points on my loyalty card to pay for it. That was a lovely surprise.

Thursday was rain, hail, wind here in Cornwall. I went for a run in the rain which lifted my spirits a bit.

Today, the morning after the election - it's still blowing a hooley out there - but I don't think it's raining at the moment.

I've been up most of the night - I just couldn't sleep with the election going on. I've just had a decaff coffee and some toast, done my Spark team stuff, and might go back to bed and see if I can get another hour or so.

Are you OK?

Yes we have to make allownaces at this time of year for various reasons. I bottled ww. The money... So I will just start tracking what I eat (without weighing/counting) and try to take a better option whenever I eat. Glad you enjoyed the mince pies. Forbidden fruit!

I did enjoy the last evening class, the sing-song, the mulled wine, and ............. I ate two mince pies!

Hmm......... never mind. It was jolly good fun and I'm glad I joined in. The mince pies were lovely!

Good luck with WW tomorrow. It's a difficult time of year to begin a new regime............. I'm kind of being forgiving with myself at the moment - it's a time of year filled with eating events.

Weather - not too cold - dry - almost sunny - expecting rain later

I just double checked and I can use my local gym as pay as you go (am currently planning on starting with the pool and fitness classes) but it's £8 per session... At that rate I would save by buying a membership if I were to use it 5 times a month. Of course you have to pay a tenner for an induction.

Politics - Last night we watched a film - we chose the ghost writer - knew it was about a Prime Minister but didn't make the election connection until the end of the film - turns out PMs wife is in the CIA. Then we watched a Yes Prime Minister episode and that was all about spies in the government. Now I'm seriously wondering if John McDonnell is a Russian spy and Boris Johnson is in the CIA...
:-)

I stayed snack free yesterday for the first time in absolutely ages. Joining ww tomorrow. Also had a 45 minute walk which was enjoyable - even if it was slow due to foot issues. Today I want to try and figure out which foods cause me enough issues to warrant banning them for a while until I get my head sorted.

Hope you enjoyed your last evening class?

As I was waiting for the kettle to boil at 6 am there was an almighty downpour - it sounded icy. I didn't go outside to see............ it's quiet now.

I'm going to be out all day today - work from 8am to 6.30pm, then straight to evening class - it's the last one of the term, so there will be carols and mince pies. I plan to avoid the mince pies!

Your pasta with Boursin and chickpeas sounds very like my concoction - love it!

Well done with the gym card - I was wondering today whether I could just PAYGO at the gym rather than buying a 'membership'. I know you can just drop in on swimming and stuff, but the gym is usually membership. Good luck with getting over that hurdle! Let me know how it goes.

Yes Prime Minister is a good way to alleviate the anxiety of the fiasco going on at the moment!

Weather report - a bit nippy - windy but no rain (so far)

Had a nice walk this morning. Spaghetti with peas sounds nice. I often do pasta in Boursin which I melt in a little milk. I like pasta with chick peas and black pepper and olive oil and lemon juice too but hubby isn't keen. Applied for a gym card this morning - free card - gets you 50p off classes, swims etc. Will collect it Friday. Getting over the threshold will be one hurdle crossed. They have a number of classes etc that seem suitable. About £6 a go but cheaper than buying a membership I might not use. I figure if I can just get myself to one thing it could be the start of something good. Will have to buy a cossie too.

Will probably watch some more of our Yes Prime Minister box set tonight - you gotta laugh...

Wild and windy, grey and wet!

Phew! I togged up and went out for a short run this morning - let's say "I'm glowing" now!

It's hard to want to go out when the weather is like this. It's so GREY!

I think I'll get out and do my jobs in town first - posting a Xmas parcel is one of them. Then I'll come home and light a candle and try to keep warm!

I've got to rethink my plans because a friend I was going to see today has cancelled due to ill health - so, um, what's for tea? Maybe a simple spaghetti with peas and onions and some vegan cheese stirred into it - and garlic!

Oh, and talking about taking our minds of the political STUFF - I had a nice prompt from someone else on twitter last night - knitting and watching another episode of His Dark Materials on iPlayer. It worked!

Hi Ann, I wonder which exercise site that was - I'm always trying new things! I'll have a think and post the link again if I remember what it was!

It's been extremely windy here, but there were too many risks of sudden sharp downpours to put the washing on the line - so I used the communal tumble-drier for my sheets and towels yesterday.

Only another week or two and the days will start getting longer again........... the dark afternoons are not great when I'm at work - it makes me feel like hibernating. But the Xmas decorations in town are pretty all lit up in the evening.

My current exercise regime is to do two rounds of a sun-salutation, followed by some hip mobilization exercises that I got from GMB and adapted for my own use. These exercise my knees and feet very well too. Then I do some gentle strength-training with dumbbells and resistance bands using a book I have called "Weights for 50+" by Dr Karl Knopf.

youtu.be/NG9qbvAN3gQ

keep warm! oh, and good luck with WW.

I say - that sounds like a spiffing idea (hope that isn't rude these days...) - it'll take our mind off the B word... I was thinking of you actually - you posted a link to an exercise site a while ago - it might have been in your signature - but I can't remember exactly what it was about? I thought it would be helpful for my creaky lower body so maybe to do with knees/feet? Must get the towels in - it's gone dark - they'll be dry now with all this wind. Put the heating on cos it's cold... A bit about me - just about to start ww - and thinking I need to do some muscle building exercises. ttfn

Hey! We're the UK team - how's the weather where you are?

But seriously, is anyone interested in having a chat thread here that is UK focused? If not, don't worry, it'll just fall to the bottom of the forum - I guess I'm just wanting to know my UK peeps a bit better.
