I keep finding quotes that say that the decluttering of the home restores the spirit as well. Hopefully I will find out!

Got the refrigerator cleaned out - and in the middle of cooking for the harvest crew!!

Got out a bunch of stuff from the little chest freezer in the garage to use up! Emptied about half of it! Only tossed a couple of expired things so felt great about that!!

I am hoping to find my house as a refuge when the decluttering is done. And the hoarding is MINE! I'm so much better about not buying stuff just because it's on sale. Not getting things I can't use right away. But I still have such a mess to deal with and chipping away slowly.

Hi,
upon my return my DH really used his hoarder thinking and bought 40 pounds of rice, 3 dozen cans of chicken and case upon case of bottled water. It's "sticky" rice- definitely not my favorite,- rice pudding now a regular on the menu; canned chicken- I Will not be eating and the water is occupying my living room (been 4 months now!!!) When we moved I insisted he toss the sugar he bought for Y2K (the bags were leaking!)


I have learned that really I am not the hoarder I thought I was when we lived in that house for 30 years. Really, I had just given up hope in there. It was falling down around our heads. It's July and the owner started to fix it up for his granddaughter in February. It is nearly livable for them and was worked on thru out the lockdown. I wouldn't know this as I have no desire to return there but DH drives by 3-4 times a week.

I certainly didn't need the salt lamp! It wasn't the style I really wanted anyway - just clearance priced! I'm using reading as my reward but reading more than working!

Still making progress in other areas! Finding a place to put things is still a huge problem. That means there is still way too much stuff and I need to get rid of more! Lots more!

That happens too!!!

Find yourself another reward, we have to keep plowing thru. We moved, got rid of tons and there is so much I am finding now that the DH salvaged and snuck over to this house (in garage, I am putting my foot down "it's not entering this house"! ARGH.

Was out at Wally World tonight walking! In the clearance aisle there was a Himalayan salt lamp thing I wanted! Actually there were 3 of them. I was going to just buy it for myself but decided I would use it as a reward gift for getting that kitchen area cleaned up and organized and the shelving unit put together! That should spur me into action so I can get it while still available!

I got a new wire shelf unit for the kitchen at Black Friday sales. I finally started clearing out the area where it will go! Filled 2 garbage bags and got them in the dumpster before the garbage man came this morning! Also filled 2 boxes of kitchen things to donate! Have several hours more work before I will be able to assemble the shelf unit and put it in place but sure feels good to have finally started!

Rented the garage/shed next door to me and transferred all my stuff out of my mom's side of ours today! Plus got a bunch organized so hopefully I will put up the outdoor snowflake and icicle lights!!! My feet and fingers were frozen after 5 1/2 hours of schlepping stuff but it feels SO GOOD to have it done and organized!

So thankful Chad bought a house and moved out and Jean was happy to rent it to me!

I did really well at the "Black Friday" sale. The only place we have here in Havre is WalMart. I went out about 6:30 to get my mom some ratting around slippers. The roads had been emergency travel only on Tuesday and there was a lot of snow. The parking lot was as full as I've ever seen it. I was astounded at all the people coming out pushing cart loads of stuff and mostly the huge TV's through the snow. Inside they had aisles taped off and it was very organized with the lines to the cash registers. Most of the carts had electronics but the crowd was in a good mood. None of the pushing and shoving and yelling you see on TV.

I wandered around and tried to find where they had put the slipper display. I pulled out a sweatshirt and thought about socks but don't really need socks so skipped that. I looked at Christmas cards (boxed) but just don't need any. Have plenty even after donating the 250 to the deployed soldiers. I got both the men's and women's slippers for her and a pair of the women's for me. I put back the sweatshirt because I really have plenty of those too!

I get a set of sheets and one of the foam mattress covers for my bed. I didn't get any new wrapping paper, cards, decorations, food or anything else. I talked myself out of several things I wanted but didn't need. And I violated the "would you buy it at full price" because I would not have bought the sheets nor the mattress upgrade if they had been full price. Still, I was proud of myself for not buying stuff I didn't need.

Mom kept both pair of slippers and I took mine back and traded them for the men's. They are easier to just slip on and I only wanted them to keep by the back door for when I am running over to mother's side of the duplex or running out in the backyard to rescue a dog with frozen paws!

Since the "veteran's event" was such a dud i skated out at 2 :30. Got 210 cards written with nice messages. I just kept at it hoping someone would show up. Oh well! It's done.

Got in a couple late afternoon hours of leaf raking! Cleaned out the leaves by the garage and moved a stack of foam insulation boards into the yard. Half to the garden and half to the old strawberry patch near my back door! Lots of exercise bending, lifting, stacking! Felt great to get it done! Hopefully tomorrow can get the stuff moved out of Mother's side of the garage so she can park in there (and quit nagging me!!!)

Today I am going to set up a table at this veteran's event with over 200 Christmas cards to be signed with messages for our deployed soldiers! I cleaned out 4 boxes of Christmas stuff and pulled out cards when I saw a similar thing happening at a brew pub in Helena! I contacted the Montana Supports Soldiers group for details and they told me what they wanted. They have to be in Helena by November 10th so they can be included in Christmas packages being shipped to our military men and women!

So it was truly a win-win situation for me. I got rid of a lot of cards I would never get sent and as a veteran who was far from home over the holidays I know how much it will mean to them!

I also set aside another batch to donate to the senior center so they can sell them!

Used the leaf blower and lawn mower to clean up a lot of leaves in the back yard! Cleaned out the big day Lily bed. Gross slimy leaves that froze before they died back. Got the irises cut back. Hauled 2 wagon loads and 3 55 gallon cans of yard waste out!

I am working on lots of projects and it feels like I am making progress. Still feeling crummy but better every day! Sure thankful I got all those soups made and frozen. Will chop celery, onions and peppers tonight before I go to bed.

Getting the prep work makes it easier to stay away from take out food. Doing well with my eating but not getting the exercise I was! Haven't been to the pool for over 2 weeks and I miss it! Maybe Thursday night?

Determined to get the pile of foam insulation boards moved from in front of Mother's garage door. Guess they will have to be stacked in the garden? Had hoped to get some cut and glued on to the house foundation but not very likely now!

So the kitchen took me hours longer than I had anticipated and I'm only half done but the parts I have done look amazing. She has a chest of drawers in there that she uses as a microwave stand and to keep dish towels and small kitchen appliances. Something had fallen in behind it. Noticed it when I was down on the floor washing baseboards and the bottom of the wall. So I pulled it away from the wall. Was just disgusting under there. But now it all looks freshly painted and it smells fresh and clean. I have the fans blowing to help dry out the floor. Will get the stuff moved back and get to work on the other area of the carpet. Yes, kitchen carpet.

And I have been quite sick the whole time my mom has been gone. She returns tomorrow night after 8 days. Mostly I have just slept, sitting up on her reclining love seat. The sinus congestion and sore throat went to my chest, turned into bronchitis and then pneumonia. Yesterday was the first day I "went out" of the house. I had some days I slept 14-16 hours. Only up to let dogs i and out and heat up soup or water for tea.

A couple nights ago I started vacuuming the carpets in my mom's living room and bedroom and hallway so I could shampoo. I got her bedroom done first. I didn't move furniture. Don't think I could have even if that had been my plan. I just wanted to get the "paths" cleaned up. In the living room there were places I went over the spots 4 or 5 times. This carpet should have been replaced 20 years ago. I know there are beautiful hardwoods underneath it! I don't have carpet, I have the original hardwood on my side of the duplex. But my mom chooses to keep the carpet.I should go over the middle area again - and maybe I will. I started having trouble with the extraction part of it last night in the hallway. I left the fans on all night to make sure it would dry out.

Definitely need to do a few more passes in the hallway. I will see if cleaning out the machine has helped. I did get her bathroom walls washed and the door trim areas look like I painted after washing them down!!

While there are a lot of chores I did not get done before the snow came, I did get the window air conditioners out of the windows and put away for the winter. I got the hoses unhooked. I got a lot of sweaters and sweatshirts and wooly socks washed and folded and put away and went through lots of summer things and put them in the donate sack.

The combine driver was just finishing up the last field of spring wheat as I pulled off into the stubble to set up the dinner table! I am beyond thrilled to be done for another year. I still have a couple days of clean up - getting the dishes and silverware and stuff sorted and stored until next year and cleaning and bleaching the coolers and hauling them back out to store at one of the farm shops. I brought 4 back with me tonight and got them filled with water!!

It was 93° here today. Another hot one tomorrow and then tomorrow night cold Canadian air heading in and bringing moisture with it. I am going to do the dishes and head up for a soak in the hot tub at the motel pool. I got most of the stuff out of the pick-up - except for the table. Got my containers watered and the patio hosed off and it's feeling like bedtime for Bonzo. I might actually just finish up the dishes and soak in my own tub with some Epsom salts.

Have to drive about 50 miles east of here for a doctor appointment tomorrow morning and I'm just beat. But it's been another good day! Tired in a really good way. And another harvest on the books. Now to get my accounting done and get the bill turned in. That's the part I am the laziest about doing!

I had a really busy week ahead and decided there was just too much in the schedule. I had to travel on Monday and Tuesday and work an additional 8 hours on Wednesday. I dropped my mom off on Tuesday and she will be at my sister's for a week SO...I cancelled 2 appointments on Thursday and Friday so I can take advantage of her absence to get some painting and cleaning done. I called a guy I know to paint the fence and am also getting someone to come in and clean the carpets at mother's. I had planned on doing both of those things myself but just decided that it would be money well spent to just get it done while I was doing other things I can't hire done. Plus my medical appointments exhausted me. I overdid it after my Synvisc knee injections by taking dinner out to the harvest crew. Now my knees and ankles are sore and swollen. I also ended up with 3 extra days of feeding the crew and while I love those guys and the money is great, I should have refused. I will be paying the price...but I'm still cutting back and taking care of myself which IS progress!

I have been really disorganized lately...even more than usual. Could not find my little cheapie smart phone and was going to just buy a new one. It's the size of a credit card and not a flip phone just so you can visualize why it's so hard to find. Anyway, I got the cards but there was no one to help me in electronics because it was almost closing time at Wally World...it's just a trac phone. Anyway, I got mom's up and running and found mine...so it was a blessing that I didn't buy a new one!

Also it was quite easy once I got the guy to understand what I was looking for to hold up the topper rear lid. He ordered it and even installed them for me today and also put on the new windshield wipers. Love it when a plan comes together!

Had a great thing happen to me! I wanted a new swim suit and cover-up. I don't need them, but I just wanted them. It was a really pretty Hawaiian print and I thought I would get it as a reward for losing weight and sticking to my diet. I figured it would go on sale after the 4th of July. Well, it didn't.

So I decided that I was worth it and would pay full price. I took 2 sizes back to the dressing room. Both of the ones I tried were way too big and even funnier...the style just didn't look good on me. So not only am I feeling good about losing weight, I saved the money for a suit and cover-up I really didn't need!

Had a colonoscopy a couple weeks ago at the V.A. and weighted 48# less than last time I was at the V.A. doctor! It was nice to have the nurses congratulate me over and over again. Will be interesting to see how my regular NP feels about it when I see her on the 16th.

I've been doing really well talking myself out of buying stuff on sale. The "Would you pay full price for it?" question helps and also just the true desire to have less stuff to deal with. I've also been going through lots of boxes to donate to the upcoming rummage sale at the Senior Center. Some of the boxes haven't been opened in over 15 years...and it's been hard but it's also been a great trip down memory lane and feels good to be finally able to deal with letting go!

emoticon down another 1.6# from last week!! Sadly I had a few days of cheating. Could have done better! The taste of the food never lasts or feels as good as seeing the number on the scales move down. Need to Get serious about tracking food again. Would like to be down 10 more pounds by my doctor's appointment on July 16th.

Thanks for joining in the challenges. I like that it's so easy to track and you earn spark points for doing it. I just started with the rainbow fruit and veggie challenge over a year ago and have joined other challenges along the way. That prompt that comes in the e-mail every morning helps me focus on drinking water, eating my veggies, getting in my fitness!

Got up and made breakfast for my mom, finished up her dishes, brought over some of the groceries I picked up for her last night at WalMart. Now to get to the bathtub for a quick bath and then head out. Going to Ft. Assiniboine to see the Living History events. Cannons, black powder rifles, the barracks and officer's quarters out there. Then back to town to check in at the railroad museum and see if the doctor I used to work for is there playing with his trains today. Then a threshing demo up at the fairgrounds at 2. Then I should be home by 3 and get my chores done.

Have to get some plants in the ground! Need to put in my window a/c. Got mom's in last evening in the kitchen and bedroom on her side of the duplex.

Am throwing in laundry as soon as I get out of the tub and will continue that later this afternoon. Looks like a sunny, smoky day and I'm excited to get started and to begin work on my June goals!!

I think this is such a great quote I've shared it in several threads and on several teams. Have really been getting things done. Sure feels good. I'm not even going to question why but I just get up in the morning and start and don't take a break until it's time to come in to fix supper and watch the news and Jeopardy!, then back out to keep going until the sun goes down. I'm doing the kitchen, the yard work- boy there are a lot of weeds, seperating for the donations for the rummage sale and trying on clothes. If it doesn't fit, it has to go...too big or too small, no excuses (well, a couple) but I think I'll have half the clothes and half the stuff in the kitchen if I keep it up!

Had a really productive day yesterday going through kitchen cabinets finding things to donate to the upcoming rummage sale at the Senior Center! So much accumulated over the years, lots I will never use again. Feels good to empty a cupboard and wipe it down and put in fresh shelf liner. I think it's been over 10 years since I did a really thorough job. Will keep it up today! Have 2 moveable cabinets that are in need of paint!

I need to pick up the pace too! Did heavy cleaning at my mom's house today and yard work! Need to bag up clothes and shoes to take to donation when I take mom to her doctor's appointment on Wednesday!

Making progress and will pick up speed when DH is finished with the semester.
I really like Marie's method of getting stuff out of the house before storing.
We have so much storage - that's dangerous!
I have shevels that I will keep empty and I haven't been buying anything.

Watched Marie's show and using her method.
Bags full of stuff have left my home. Making progress.
Few years ago basement flooded at the same time we collected memories from Mom's home when she went into assisted living. Marie's method helps sort through the memories.

I've been strictly Keto since February 1st. Decided I'd eat whatever I wanted on Easter. Bought a bag of black jelly beans. Got raspberries, blueberries and frozen cherries. Made lemon bars, cheesecake (which I can eat on Keto), pineapple. I eat deviled eggs almost daily so not today! I tracked it all. Only ate a lemon bar, pint of raspberries, 1/4 cup of both blueberries and pineapple. Didn't even open the jelly beans! I'll take them to a friend tomorrow! The ham was wonderful and so was the yam loaded with butter. I made mindful choices and feel good about it! The dogs gobbled down the leftover yams!

We strolled in the sunshine both this morning and just after dinner! Turned out to be a sunny day after raining all night! Squirrels out, robins building nests, yards and flower beds are greening up! No tulips or daffodils blooming yet but not far off. All in all it was a great day!
