Good luck! It's easy to get overwhelmed. I'm working on my clutter more than usual. Could do better but certainly have done worse! Progress is baby steps...and for me, putting down my book!

Hi everyone, I am a hoarder, I just collect stuff with the intention to do something with it. I use to have a routine to take care of the living spaces of my house. Somehow I lost the routine, I don't know if it was when I started watching my sister's dog or after one of my surgeries.

My routine started with putting dirty dishes in sink to soak than vacuuming the entire living area and the finished garage. The garage is now a path. The rest of the house is terribly cluttered.

This morning I decided I am taking back my house. Even though there is a small spot in the middle of the living room, I am going to vacuum, then try to figure out what I did next. I already put dishes in the sink to soak. I think if I was to get just one part of a routine the rest will fall in.

Now I just have to stop being lazy and do it.

Everyone have a great day.

Thankful for all I have and searched key words: Covid-19 volunteer and my city. I will be getting rid of washcloths, towels, hats and scarfs I haven’t worn in years, and more. They also want Blankets and ibuprofen and blood. Time to reduce the overstuffed closets!

Our IGA has a table in front of the counter at customer service so you don't get too close to those employees but the checkers and the people crowded in line like normal? Still seeing people shopping with the whole tribe instead of leaving everyone at home and one person going with a list? Can't congregate to eat the lunch meal at the senior center but they are all bunched up in a line waiting to pick up their take out? Amazed Montana has jumped to 121 so quickly. Mostly the counties with larger cities.

"And the people stayed home. And read books, and listened, and rested, and exercised, and made art, and played games, and learned new ways of being, and were still. And listened more deeply. Some meditated, some prayed, some danced. Some met their shadows. And the people began to think differently.

And the people healed. And, in the absence of people living in ignorant, dangerous, mindless, and heartless ways, the earth began to heal. " ~ Kitty O'Meara

Let us keep joining together, its working, so much purging, and releasing, I know it feels unsettling, but if we can stay together, energetically we can bring a brand new energy. I know many are now self isolating, but we are all joined more fully, you are under the most magnificent healing and protective light. To activate this, you breathe, the 4 step breathing where you can, 4 breaths in, hold for 4, out for 4, (lots of love in, lots of love out) as you do that, visualise the light surrounding you, our beautiful mother earth, and everyone that is here raising their frequency . Visualise the virus and all the fear and worry to leave the planet and our bodies..We have the power. Despite the isolation we are getting closer. Have a great week. Stay home. Stay safe. Stay positive!

I was just kidding about cleaning supplies! I have plenty in stock - just a lazy excuse! Yes, I do like to use vinegar and baking soda. I just can't get over the empty shelves of all the cleaning supplies? As a joke I'm sending a friend in South Dakota a bottle of "Brown bottle" Lysol. I have a couple and she was ranting about the local stores in Rapid City being totally out! Her sister can't stand the smell of it so it's been a running joke of ours for years! So Grace (who can't stand the smell) was tasked by Cathryn (in SD) to find some! Grace called me from her much larger city in Montana to see if I could find some for Cathryn! I told her the grocery store and Wal-Mart were out but I could spare a bottle from my stash!

17° above, not 10° below! Wind still blowing but not nearly as strong! About 2 inches of snow!

I am amazed at all the stuff that has been cancelled. No St.Paddy's parades or events!Lost revenue - reminds me a bit of after 9/11! A friend at the senior center showed me a picture her son took at the Minneapolis airport! Virtually no one anywhere? Used to fly through there all the time and it was always busy!
Had to go out for cigs since the big snow hasn't hit yet but I would be out by morning and very cranky! So no toilet paper or paper towels or cleaning supplies which I expected but the other stuff!??? Not a single bag of flour of ANY size? IGA had more stuff on their shelves but I usually only get cigs and dog bones there so headed out to Wally's! Wind is blowing 50 mph from the East! We never get East winds?
So Wally's shelves are almost emptied of lots of stuff!! None of those ramen noodles type products! No sugar, flour, milk or eggs! No bags of potatoes or onions, no containers of soup stock and no bullion either??
So I don't have TV. I had a soak after work and napped from 4-9:30. Has the apocalypse started while I was snoozing??
Coming home into that wind with the blowing snow was so cool! Like piloting the Millennium Falcon!

It's going to be too cold for Corona to take hold! My SP friend, Donna from Nebraska, just let me know that the state basketball tournament has been restricted to family members of the players only! No bands, cheerleaders, just players and their families! Huge revenue loss. And I feel so bad for the players who work all season to get to the state level and have their season end like that! Basketball tourneys are a huge deal here in Montana!
Here, in Great Falls, the Charlie Russell Museum pulled out of the huge western art auction slated for next weekend because of people coming from all over the country. The poor artists work months getting ready for it! Fortunately common sense still exists and all the parts that make up the whole are still going to be showing and selling their work.

A group of students from Montana State have been studying in Italy and were notified they would not be allowed back on campus until they self-quarantined for 14 days! I think it's insanity.

Just let the dogs out at 9:30 p.m. and discovered about an inch of snow out there! No sweeping until tomorrow! I set the 2 clocks on the walls ahead an hour. Figure it doesn't matter anyway and won't confuse me in the morning! Car is easy!

Sounds like a great way to spend the weekend to me. I can imagine how the house smells. Always a great time.

We spent today...went after a load of feed for our cattle, bought me a new kitchen range and tried a new burger (for us). I enjoyed the day!

Going to fry a couple rib eye steaks I got on clearance at Wally World today with some green beans and almonds and some Brussels sprouts with bacon and the dogs and I will pig out! I didn't send any valentines except by e-mail! I got them out but just never sat down and did them! Baked 10 pies for the annual pie social at the library today! House smells amazing! Had overcast sky, 45 mph wind and then huge snowflakes coming down fast between 1 and 3:30?!! Then the sun came out, wind died down and it's melting off. Picked up 4 more J.D. Robb books at the library when I dropped off the pies so set for the weekend! Might bake a batch of lemon bars. Definitely want a nap!
Hope you have a great Valentine's Day! XXXO

Saw a video about slicing spaghetti squash in rings to get longer strands. The tough shell made it almost impossible!! Going to try baking it whole for 15 minutes, then slicing that way? The strands still tasted great the old way! Made a sauce with diced ham, frozen peas and cream an it was wonderful!

Had to dig the car out to get to the hockey game this morning. Ran out to Wal-Mart for more Brussel sprouts and celery (and to let Mother Nature blow all the snow off the car).

More work on the shelving unit! Need to finish up the valentines. Taking it easy!

I needed to do some laundry, but then I realized I was out of detergent, so I went to write a shopping list and realized how disorganized the junk drawer was and started checking the pens for ink and when I went to toss all the junk I saw the trash was full but before I took it out I wanted to get rid of old food in the fridge, and when I opened the fridge I realized a milk jug had been leaking so I needed to clean it up but when I went to grab a rag, the pantry closet was a nightmare so I started organizing that and that's how I ended up on the floor, waist deep in old magazines from '02 while listening to Patsy Cline and not doing laundry.
And that's how my Saturday (and most daze) is going!

Many of us act confident, but subconsciously think we should be better, prettier, thinner, smarter or contribute more to the world.
You are perfectly imperfect, magnificent and more than enough! Whether you believe it or not, the world is better because you are in it!
Have a fantastic weekend.

"It often takes painful situations in life for us to become aware again of the abundance and magical opportunities life provides us. Many times we wait until something dramatic happens before we tune into the beauty and magical experiences of life on earth.

We hide from the rain instead of feeling the deliciousness of letting her touch our bare skin. We tend to work too hard or focus intensely on personal growth that it becomes an obsession and we dig ourselves so deep into all the things we think we need to do, that we forget to enjoy this very moment.

We forget that each moment we have on earth is an absolute gift waiting for us to be seen and fully lived. We wear ourselves out while we search for love, wealth, acceptance and by holding on to the past or fears, all things that can be healed and released if we give ourselves this opportunity and commit to it.

Why do we wait to fully live and enjoy life? Why do we sabotage ourselves and get in our own way? Is it true that we have to wait until everything is perfect or can true fulfilment be found in each moment?"

Every Woman Should Write A Love Letter To Themselves

"Eat like you love yourself. Move like you love yourself. Speak like you love yourself. Act like you love yourself."---Unknown

Shellie R. Warren

Sep. 07, 2019 07:50AM EST

I grew up with a mother who was good for writing a letter—or 2 or 10. This was especially the case as I got older, there was a breakdown in communication, and she wanted to make sure she was heard and/or she wanted to clarify a few things and/or sometimes, she even wanted to apologize. Between that being a part of my upbringing and my being an avid reader and writer from an early age, letter writing has continued to be a part of my life and lifestyle. Ask anyone who's close to me—or who I've released before—and they'll tell you that it's nothing for them to receive a letter—or 2 or 10—from me. It's such a powerful way to process, purge and even cleanse in some ways.

I got the confirmation on this several years ago, when I penned a spiritual letter of sorts to single women. Whenever a woman reaches out to me who feels as if she's at her wit's end (romantically speaking), I email it to her. It's been really humbling to see the kind of peace and "Ohh…so that's what this has all been about" insight that it provides. And the beauty of it is, since it's a letter, she can always refer back to it (another plus of sharing your thoughts and feelings via writing rather than simply having a conversation; it's documented). Yeah, letter writing is an underrated superpower. It really is.

That's why I am a huge fan and avid encourager of women writing love letters. No, not to other people (although that's cool too)—to themselves. If the first thing that comes to your mind is that it sounds odd, feels awkward or even leans on the side of vanity, I'm hoping that in 3-5 minutes (give or take), I'll totally be able to change your mind.

There Are Proven Psychological Benefits to Writing Things Down

Did you know that if you write your goals down, there's a far greater chance that you'll achieve them? There's an article that ran in Forbes that said this is actually proven in neuroscience. It claims that jotting things down taps into your "external storage" (it's a visual reminder) and your "encoding" (the biological processing by which decisions are made). So already, can you see that if you write yourself a love letter, it will serve as a visual reminder while also helping you to make decisions that are centered around self-love?

Also, there are other psychological benefits that come from writing things down. Writing things down helps you to express your emotions. Writing things down brings forth clarity. Writing things down can also help you to see how much progress you've made over time as you go from one level of thinking to another.

So yeah, before going any further, this point alone should be enough of a reason to pull out a pen and piece of paper, don't you think?

You Need to Document How You Feel About Yourself

Sometimes, when a woman writes me about all of the things she hates about her life, I'll ask her to shoot me 10 things that she likes about herself and 10 things that she totally dislikes. 9 times out of 10, it never fails. While she can easily rattle off all of things that she loathes, she struggles with sharing even five things that she loves. Although you might want to automatically chalk that up to her having lowself-esteem or a lack of self-awareness, while there may be some truth to that, the reality is that all of our brains come with an automatic negative bias. Researchers are looking into all of the reasons why, but a part of it is due to what we expose ourselves to on a daily basis, both inside and out.

Anyway, I'm bringing this up because between all of the political drama, gossip blogs and vlogs and Instagram filters that we're exposed to on the regular, it can be really easy to become extremely cynical and hard on yourself. One way to counter that is to "reprogram your mind" by focusing on positive stuff. A great starting point is to hone in on specific things about yourself that are good, healthy and affirming.

Since it's so easy to talk about what you don't like about yourself, why not go out of your comfort zone and write down some of the things that you actually do?

It’s a Great Reference Point for the Not-Feeling-Your-Best-Days

You wake up 15 minutes late. The outfit that you want to wear decides to fit you funny. You leave your car lights on overnight. When you finally do get to work, you forgot all about the staff meeting you were supposed to lead. Then you get a text from your man that totally pisses you off and a voicemail from your mom that totally leaves you baffled. You order your lunch and it's all wrong. The day just sucks. Sucks, I say.

When you wake up on the wrong side of the bed and it has a domino effect, not only does that have a tendency to drain your energy, it can make you feel all kinds of bad about everything that's transpiring; including when you look into the mirror and it's a bad hair day on top of everything else. Something that can calm and center you is a self-written love letter. It can remind you of all of the things that you've got going right within when it seems like life, at least for today, is all wrong.

It Sets the Standard of What to Require of Others

Now that we've gotten a few reasons down for why you should be all for writing a love letter to yourself, you might be thinking, "OK Shellie, but how do I actually go about doing that?" That's where this point comes in. Although you could hash out an email, I think getting some pretty stationary and writing all of what you have to say in your own handwriting is far more impacting. Think about what you love about you—both inside and out. Think about what you are deserving of. Think about what sets you apart from everyone else on this planet. Reflect on the standards and boundaries that must be put into place in honor of the love that you have for you. Tell yourself why you are going to nurture and pamper yourself without reservation or apology more often. Write down all of the reasons why someone should feel honored to have you and why you will wait until that kind of individual comes along.

I promise you, once your letter is complete, it will automatically put a fire in you that will not only inspire you to love yourself, it will require others to respect and esteem you to the utmost as well. Yep, writing yourself a love letter will change your life and the way people in your life treat you. Guaranteed.

It Holds You Accountable to What Love Means to Yourself

A lot of us struggle with doing an exercise like this because 1) we don't even know what it means to love ourselves and 2) we definitely don't hold ourselves accountable to doing it. Yet ironically, that's the main point and purpose of writing ourselves a love letter. A letter is a written form of communication. As you're exploring in your mind what self-love means to you and you're putting those words down, it can define love in a way that is distinctive; a way that resonates with you like nothing else can because no one knows you quite like you do.

Then, once the letter is written and either mailed to you (why not? That way you can get more than a bill), posted on your fridge or blown up and hung over your bed, you can read what you said, over and over again, making sure that if no one else loves you right and well, you will. Daily.

So, what are you waiting for? Pull out a bottle of wine, a pen and stationery and get to writing. If something profound comes to mind (and I'm pretty sure that it will), put a line or two in the comment section.

Everyone deserves at least one love letter in life. Especially one that they have written to themselves!

I usually make that "crack slaw" with ground pork, Cole slaw mix and oriental seasonings so this was very different for me! Plus I am doing low carb so the pie crust was not on plan but sure is good !

Found a great chopped salad mix with broccoli, Brussel sprouts, carrots and the dreaded kale! Added in chopped onion, peppers, cauliflower and shredded cabbage.
Browned burger and sauteed in the veg mix! Made it into "pasties" in pie crust dough! Great little hot pockets!

Today is Thesaurus Day. Fun non-fact: Paleontologists believe that the diet of the Thesaurus rex consisted almost entirely of synonyms.

You don't have to actually answer these questions, just ponder them.

1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.
2. Name the last five Heisman Trophy winners.
3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America Pageant.
4. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize.
5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor and actress.
6. Name the last decade's worth of World Series winners.

How did you do?

The point is… not many of us remember the headliners of yesterday.
These are not second-rate achievers. They are the best in their fields.
But the applause dies.
Awards tarnish.
Achievements forgotten.
Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners.

Here's another quiz. See how you do on this one.

1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.
2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.
3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.
4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special.
5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.

Easier?

The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials,
the most money or the most awards. They simply are the ones who care the most.

I have passed this on to wonderful people in my life.
Enjoy the New Year! You are appreciated!

A New Year's "Thank You" for all the things you've done to make the year just ended a much happier one! Have a wonderful 2020!
Was thinking earlier that it was 20 years ago tonight at the Diesel Shop at work and we all were waiting on locomotives for the midnight signal to lay on the horns to announce the new year and annoy the neighborhood! Would the dreaded Y2K bug knock out the electricity and the radio communication and wipe out our computer systems? How long ago that seems.
For the first time in many years I didn't hear the locomotive horns. A couple years ago they legalized the sale and shooting off of fireworks here for New Year's Eve! Those had been going off for hours!
I got in my car and drove through town to get coffee! Not many people out and about. A few flashing police lights, Christmas lights and fireworks. I asked Bob at the c-store if he had heard the locomotive horns. He said no, maybe there were no locomotives in town . So I drove down past the yard and the Diesel Shop and saw only 2 locomotives. Came home and sat outside with the dogs for a few minutes and listened to fireworks still going off! I should have honked my car horn.

The local Boys and Girls Club is having a "sale" I could really get behind. The kids earn vouchers for doing projects, good behavior, etc. Then on the 17th they can use that chit to "buy" presents for friends and family . So they were asking for donations of new or gently used items. Boy have I been busy filling boxes with stuff for them!

I think of those things too when wondering if I will get another dog! Especially moving since most places won't allow pets even with extra money!

I lost both of my dogs to old age. Around 15. I sometimes wish I had another dog but then I think of the trips outside & the expense plus the thought that if I go into an apartment they would not be allowed without an extra fee. Enjoy yours while you can

Expecting a really good Bobcat v. Grizzly game today! Prepping lots of healthy (and big Grizzly shaped cookies) snacks! Both teams are doing well this year and will hopefully make the playoffs!

My little female dog had her teeth cleaned Thursday and it was a really long night. She had a tough time coming out of the anesthesia. I know both of them are getting old and thinking this winter will be very difficult for them. It's always so hard to lose a beloved pet. I'm grateful for the years of laughter and unconditional love they have given me!

Years ago - before I moved from here to Chicago, one of my good friends had boys who played hockey and they sold the fruit before Christmas! I started doing the fruit baskets then. I add in nuts and cookies & candy stuff. My nursing home friends loved them! (I buy bananas locally to add). About 5 years ago the hockey teams started selling gourmet cookie dough instead of the fruit! I was so disappointed.

I got cases of apples and oranges through the senior citizens center food purveyor (because I work in the kitchen and order food) but the quality wasn't that good. A case of pears were rock hard and rotted from the inside out and the oranges were green/unripe and not so good? So I cut back on doing the fruit baskets. Picked up oranges, grapefruit and bananas locally. They just don't give those people fresh produce at the nursing home so it's one of my missions - peaches and tomatoes from the farmer's market!

Anyway, my neighbors have a daughter who is in her 3rd year of hockey. I told Denise last year that I really missed the fruit, the cookie dough was too expensive and I just didn't want it! So she brought it up at a meeting and they brought back the fruit!! She told me lots of the other parents had heard the same thing. And Danielle (the little hockey player) is selling lots more fruit than she ever did cookie dough!

The grocery store puts together fruit baskets here but they charge $25 for a small one! I used to love the fruit baskets from Harry & David's! My BFF's brother used to always send me pears for Thanksgiving and assorted fruits and candy and nuts for Christmas! Harry & David's was bought up by 1-800-flowers and the quality went way down! I miss those pears! Anyway, I think everyone appreciates the fruit baskets - I get baskets at thrift stores and ribbon and cellophane at the dollar store so I figure it's a healthy food gift and it helps out the youth hockey program!

Hockey team kids selling fruit as a fundraiser! Got a case of granny smiths, a case of navel oranges, case of red grapefruit and a case of gala apples! Will be delivered first week of December. Fruit baskets for Christmas gifts this year!

The benefits of healthy choices far outweighs the number on the scale. Let's continue to reduce our risk of disease, build strong muscle and bone, stay flexible and mobile, improve our cardiovascular system, help our body heal itself, increase our energy level, relieve stress, slow the aging process (and who doesn't want that ?!?)... and so much more.
Don't give the scale any power. Take note of the number then get off the scale and live your life.

The veterans event was very disappointing. The people in charge were really disorganized. They misrepresented the whole thing. I stayed from 11-2:30. Only had one couple - yup! 2 people - come through! So I just kept writing messages in the cards! To be fair, there was a lot going on in town today. In any event, I have 210 Christmas cards to send off to go in the packages for deployed soldiers!

I got in a couple hours of leaf raking!

Life is so short. We spend so much time sweating the small stuff, worrying, complaining, gossiping, comparing, wishing, wanting and waiting for something bigger and better - instead of focusing on the simple blessings that surround us every day. Life is so fragile and all it takes is a simple moment to change everything you take for granted. Focus on what's important and be grateful. You are blessed! Believe it! Live your life and leave no regrets.

Was a lovely warm Wednesday! Hit 73! I started out with long John's under my jeans working in the yard! Had to peel off those and sweatshirt after about 30 minutes! Still lots of leaves stuck in the trees - especially all the lilacs. Got lots cleaned up. High winds the next couple days should dry out some of the mud and blow down more leaves. Hope the predicted rain passes us by!

Spent about 4 hours doing yard stuff. Tomorrow definitely have to move a pile of foam insulation boards from in front of the garage door. Will pile it in the garden I guess? Had hoped to get some of it cut and glued on the foundation but not very likely.

Then start moving all the stuff out of Mother's side of the garage. Will force myself to get bed out of there and into my bedroom if it's the last thing I do! Will be a real mess moving the big stuff if we get rain!

Still feeling crummy but better every day. Can't afford to be sick! Spent way too much money at the veterinarian this month and it's only the middle of the month!

Got a huge mountain off the patio cover. Then have to shovel it off the patio so I can get out. Went to the grocery for some soup veggies and the fat Sunday paper and the clerk said her patio cover collapsed. I'm glad I was able to keep mine mostly cleared off. Lots of branches and bigger limbs on the streets in town. At least it's not cold!! And we still have power!

*Oh, and the Sunday Great Falls Tribune wasn't there because the delivery driver couldn't get out of Great Falls this morning!
