I love those veggie salads! I'm chopping veggies for soup today. I was just on the scale and surprised that I hadn't gained weight from all the junk food. It will probably show up on weigh in day!! Actually I wanted cheetos so bad last night. I know it was just the 'coming down' from all the anxiety of the plumber visit but I chewed some cinnamon gum and read until I fell asleep.

The cinnamon and peppermint gum have worked pretty well in keeping me from coming completely unglued and jumping in my car to go get the forbidden salty snacks that I love!!

You deserve several "pats on the back".

I am going to try a recipe called VEGGIE CHOPPED SALAD. It is from Taste of Home so it should be good. Uses lots of fresh veggies, a little bacon & mayo dressing. Trying to eat healthy. One pair of pants would not fasten. Not a good thing. too much Christmas candy!

Had a strange flash of insight last night. I have the floor space cleared in one spot in the kitchen so did the floor on my hands and knees and the baseboards and up the wall. Going to get the ladder and do the top part of the wall and the ceiling. Will attempt to do the whole room about a 5x5 section at a time. It has 11 ft ceilings so that's why I need the ladder...but this could work!

Still feeling good although the faucet was still leaking after I cleaned out the tub from his boots and the calcium and lime and rust stains so had to call him to come back. This time he replaced the whole thing...so now I'm thinking the price just went much higher...but I feel good about the work that was done by him...and even more the work that was done by me. Hoping I can continue on at the same speed and with the same zeal for the rest of this week. Back to only 2 home health clients so much more manageable time for me at home.

I am feeling so weird. The plumber came. I wasn't ready to let him in. But he was fine. I almost called and cancelled because of the shame. I'm SO thankful that I didn't. This leak really has been a blessing in disguise. I really was forced to at least get the kitchen and hallway to the bathroom presentable so he could come. I put it off and put it off and put it off. I cancelled my trip to Oregon because I was so freaked out that my mom would call someone to come in and it was such a mess. I hid it from her when I couldn't fix it myself to give me time to get it done. And then still put it off.

But the plumber, Dan, was very gracious and he was able to get the valve stem out of the faucet so it didn't have to be replaced...saved a couple hundred bucks there. Plus he put in the new shut off at the water heater so when/if it happens again, I will be able to shut it off at the hot water tank. I feel so grateful that he was so very nice and never mentioned it. We talked about his daughter (a basketball star in college now) and his mom-who I know from the senior center. She is struggling with dementia so that means so is the whole family. I saw her last week and she seemed better than I have seen her in months. She goes on Tuesday for the 'nutrition meal' and then stays for bingo. Yesterday she was late and on the verge of a panic attack so she left.

Anyway, I need to get back to the mess. It's not nearly as hard as I thought it would be. I am throwing out lots and lots of stuff. Things that are expired (food) and things that were ruined by being under other things. I refuse to think about how much I have wasted or I will come to a stand still. I know that throwing out so much is part of the cost of hoarding. Also part of the cost of retail therapy. Buying stuff I don't really need because it's on sale...never even gets out of the bag and put away.

But I feel almost euphoric about letting someone in. I simply said, "you know those hoarder on TV? well, I am one of those" and left it at that. The spaces that are cleared are clean and it feels so much better. Like I've finally taken the first step that will get me to where I want to be. And it all started with a hot water leak in my bathtub.

emoticon I like living alone too! But not sure that I would ever have let my house get this bad if I was living with someone. That might be the only downside!!

I'm chipping away at a pretty good clip. The horror of letting someone in the door has amazing motivational qualities for me!! Gotta get back at it. Hope you have a great day. Hope the plumber can't come until Wed or Thurs.

Weather has been right at freezing the last 2 days so a big break from our minus zero thermometer and way below zero wind chills. Got in plenty of exercise shoveling the sidewalks, digging out the cars and keeping the snow off the patio cover. A caregiver job I picked up 6 weeks ago ends tomorrow. Will be great to not have to get out 3 times a day in crummy weather but I will miss the old couple. Great fun meeting new people and hearing their stories. Have a great Sunday that rolls on in to a wonderful week!

I feel very blessed. I somehow have enough money for everything I need, and plenty of stuff that I don't! I never worry about it. When I need it, an opportunity always presents itself so I can earn what I need. I have done many different kinds of work in my life so willing to do just about any kind of work. I have about 7 or 8 years before I can draw social security...depends on if they change the age again. But I always have work of some kind. Usually more than I want. Like I said, it seems like it just works out the way it's supposed too! I was only supposed to have this couple and one other woman for 7-10 days and has ended up being 5 weeks before the regular woman was released by her doc to come back. So I helped her out, met some incredible people and made money I will put to good use! Wins for everyone!!

I am the only one working, Bill is disabled, and I only can make x amt of dollars because I had to take early retirement to make ens meet, (or at least wave to each other) so I do know what you mean.

You know the old saying "everything happens for a reason"!! Guess that's why I picked up all the extra work this last month! Will need the money for the gas bill from all the daze below zero& to pay the plumber&the water bill!

Could have avoided it by getting plumber in last !month but too ashamed to let him see the mess! Just one more cost of hoarding?!

Got a call from the City today. They said there must be a water leak somewhere since we usually use 4000 gallons of water and it's up to over 10,000! Gotta get that hot water leak fixed...and the tub flooding didn't help.

I have missed some opportunities and screwed up others. I have my share of regrets and sad edges around a relationship or two. Iíve disappointed my family, friends and even more often myself. I have complained, whined, and been noisy, and then other times been silent when I should have spoken up. But tonight I will go to sleep with a smile knowing that tomorrow is right around the corner and another chance to get it right will be waiting for me.

It WAS awful. I swear my life is like an "I Love Lucy" episode with all the stupid things I do. Can't believe I let the tub overflow in the first place. But now the floor in the bathroom is just sparkling clean and lots of things that were on the floor are either put away or thrown away. I hung wet stuff on the rod to dry and the rod fell in the night. It's only one of those tension kind of shower rods so nothing broken...the dogs barked their brains out over that!!

If I didn't laugh I'd cry!

I had a little disaster today. Forgot and the bathtub overflowed all over the bathroom floor and down through the floor into the basement. What a mess. Forced to do a lot of cleaning...so maybe that's the positive of the thing!!

emoticon emoticon Was cold again today!!! Humidity in the 75% range which is very rare here in high desert country!! Seems colder, more bone chilling to me when it's humid! Think the high was -4 but supposed to be 28 tomorrow! Sing along... "We're having a heat wave, a tropical heat wave". I think we only got 5-6" of snow out of this one! No stars out tonight so hope it doesn't snow while I sleep! Tired of sweeping off the car every morning! Blessed the old bomb fires up&has a good heater...although it's making a horrible noise?

Wind chill was -40 when I came home after fixing supper! Pat felt so bad when I offered to take his stuff to the PO to be mailed...just letters! I told him I had to drive around to warm up the car anyway. If I just drove home from their house I don't think it would start up in the morning! High of -4 tomorrow but then 31 on Saturday!!! Certainly beats that brutal -35 without the wind chill we got on 1/1!! Snowing again! Much too cold for me to go out&sweep or shovel. Maybe it will blow all the way to North Dakota?!!!

Getting ready for a major change in temps Friday, along with freezing rain and lots of snow.

We did the grocery, vet visit, and anything else that we needed to do outside. I also changed my prescriptions to a nicer pharmacy that delivers.

I hope everyone stays safe and warm.

Great going with the good work you've been doing ladies!

I got the dishes done, and the laundry. We are keeping our electronics charged in case we lose electricity. We have fire logs in the house for a backup heat source.

We were back to -18 this morning! We got a couple inches of snow overnight. Now we start the winter weather advisory from noon today until noon tomorrow. Expected to get 10 inches of snow out of these storms by Saturday. I sure hope not.

Ran out to WalMart to get some dog food for me and some yogurt and paper products for the old couple. Was going to try to get a nap for the next hour but decided I'd get caught up on my SP duties instead!

Hi all,
I did some kitchen cleaning and cabinet organizing today.
We have milder temps here, too. Almost in the 40s.
Last week we froze, had no school or delays and today felt like spring. Go figure.
Karen, I am glad that your burns are feeling better.
Linda, that sounds like an interesting job.
I do see different help wanted for senior care(I should talk, I am a senior myself) but I never thought I could do it.
Have a great evening everyone.

Temps in the 40's today & a major storm forecast for our area starting Friday. I am going to the store & paying a few bills. We may get as much as 10 inches.

I worked on my spare room yesterday. Trying to decide what to keep as I anticipate a move somewhere & sometime in my future.

I am not an STNA so I only cleaned & ran errands. I do not eat eggs but I bought the Eggland once & made a breakfast casserole for our holiday brunch. They said it was the best.

Just ran out to WalMart on the edge of town to get those stupid Eggland's Best eggs for my couple for breakfast. She swears she can tell the difference (but she can't. I subbed in IGA eggs twice last week and she didn't know!). The closer IGA grocery was out.

The Canadians are sending harsh winds - we are about 40 miles from the Canadian line!! Ground blizzards. Started out as sleet but was full on blizzard snowing when I came home about 45 minutes later. I got stuff for me, my mom, my old couple and my Wednesday errands lady! Some will leave in the car but most has to come inside or it will freeze!

We're supposed to get 1-3 inches out of this storm...already have an inch on the ground! Winter is back!

I do mine through (most clients) through the sr center too! Most of mine is done under respite care. I'm a CNA so can do the blood sugar tests and give the insulin injections. I also sleep over if the regular partner or caregiver has to be away from the home for some reason. It's a pretty good gig. It is hard, heart-breaking in so many ways! By the time I get them, most are ready to go to the care center or the morgue. Seems like they die all at once and then a whole new crop of them pop up needing someone. I feel blessed to be able to help at this stage of their life.

The meds they take astound me! Worst part has been their grown children for a week! Got their schedule all goofed up. Brought in candy& cookies??

Other lady is just shopping&errands. Weird refilling a gift card with a check then using the gift card to purchase very specific groceries. Got a couple things at Walmart that weren't available at the grocery store for about a third the price. Now she has me shopping at both stores. Told me she didn't like Walmart when I started but has come around after seeing some of the price differences!

Will be glad when their regular care giver is back to work!!! The couple want me to continue but I really don't want to. Maybe I'll offer to do weekends. Will have to see. Been going 7 days a week so I'm tired. Split shifts-leave after lunch& come back about 5 to fix dinner. Plus warming up the car&driving in the snow/slush/ice has gotten old!! Both live up steep hills so have to wind around to avoid sledding in my car! Sometimes very scary!

I cleaned for senior citizens for about 10 years. Mopped those floors on my hands & knees.

Karen, I replied to your burn story so it must not have posted. I am having so much trouble reading and replying from my Kindle. I'm just not technically smart enough to do it!

Glad the burn isn't too serious. Yes, it will be good to get out. We are having a warming trend and the streets are running with snow melt-which then freezes at night when the temp drops. I slid through my turn off this morning on the way to work. Nothing serious, just went up another block. Doing the 'walk like a penguin' to be on the safe side.

Donna, I'd like to have that "looks so much better" feeling around my whole house. I should have gotten some decluttering done yesterday but am reading one of those "can't put it down" kind of stories so didn't get a thing done...then go to work and do laundry and sweep and mop and haul garbage?? Why is it so much easier to clean someone else's house??

The burn seems to be healing. Just a small area of 2nd degree burn. Blisters have not popped yet & I still need to watch for signs of infection.

We have ice this morning but I am looking forward to getting out in a few days. Need to get some fresh fruit & veggies.

I have been enjoying too much tv & reading. I need to get busy in my spare room. I would like that "Looks so much better" feeling.

Ouch! That has to hurt. emoticon I do hope it is feeling better today.

On a happier note, it is up to 16 degrees already. I do hope the extreme cold is done and gone.
Yesterday I cleaned our "computer room" out and it looks so much better.
I took my exercise gear back upstairs along the smaller tv and cd player.
I have a few papers and drawers to go through and it's done.
Have a great Monday.

I did a really stupid thing last night. I took a bowl of soup from microwave never expecting the bowl to be hot. I spilled boiling soup on my hand. OUCH. I put hand under cold water for 20 minutes. I have just 2 small blisters between my thumb & pointer finger. I am praying for healing as I have poor circulation with my raynaults. If it looks infected I will go to dr but it should be ok.

I am hoping staying in will spare me a virus or 2. Hope the lady is feeling better soon

Sounds like a great plan to hole up and read and watch movies. I have to work both Saturday and Sunday so will have to go out in the cold...but it's not anywhere close to where it was last weekend!! I'm grateful for that!

Found out I'll probably be working both of these extra home health jobs for another two weeks. Poor woman I'm replacing had back surgery and the back is fine, but the leg pain, which is how the whole thing started, is back and worse than before...plus she has a bad case of norovirus (diaherria) so she's really depressed! I told the clients to call and cheer her up. I don't really know her so was surprised when she unloaded all this info on me on Monday evening. I guess she just needed someone to talk to and I called her!

I am really thankful that I stocked up on some food items & water. It has been 2 weeks since I drove my car or went to the store. Looks like we may get more accumulating snow on Sunday.

I have been enjoying my new morning devotional books & coffee. I have lots of movies to watch & TV programs that I recorded. So I am all set.

I am sorry my son Tom ( & others) have to be out in this weather. He has a walking mail route.

It was 30 here today. They had one lane closed on the main highway through town so they could use the big trucks to scoop and load off some of the snow. The sanding trucks were out in full force. Was a little slushy. Tonight after fixing dinner for my old couple I slid through one intersection and was almost hit from behind at another. Sure got slick in a hurry.

Saw on the weather channel that the east coast was getting pounded and having our wind chills from last week!

Best wishes and blessing to you for 2018! I went from Havre to Great Falls yesterday for my annual physical. Had a few patches of black ice but roads were mostly clear in the driving lane. Great Falls was a treat...slushy, sloppy but so much warmer than it's been in Havre. I feel truly blessed for so many reasons and one is that I have made such great inspirational friends on Spark People! This team has been a blessing in so many ways! Thanks to all of you who post comments and read the messages!

Our weather in Ohio is not quite that bad. It snowed again last night. Maybe 5 inches on the ground. It is getting colder now & expected to be -5 on New Years Eve & -9 on Tuesday.

I am glad you turned around. I have not been out since Monday & don't plan on getting out for a few more days. I made cornbread yesterday & thought the same thing. Heat up the kitchen. I had some frozen ham slices & a small bag of beans so made some soup. I am thankful I bought some frozen & canned veggies & fruit. I am running low on bread & no eggs but I can make my food last for at least another week.

I am still watching holiday shows that I recorded. Trying to declutter some, too.

Stay warm my friend!

Was -11 this morning and the wind chill -40. Shoveled to my car and got it cleaned off and fired up but sure didn't want to head out to my old couple's house this morning. I ended up not being able to get through the drifts so went to Holiday and got an iced coffee and pack of cigs. No newspaper from Great Falls. Bet they couldn't get through. Saw the road report and it said it was treacherous from GTF to Loma! I was awake from 3-7 a.m. so got a good start on a pot of beef barley soup and also roasted a turkey hindquarters. Helps keep the place warm. Supposed to get down to -25 tonight. I'll save the shoveling for later. It's really coming down out there and it's really blowing and drifting. Poor little dogs trying to find a place to do their business. Can't waste any time or they'll freeze! Lovely weather we're having!!

Now no excuse not to stay busy all day cleaning and organizing!
