Been doing a lot of reading and napping. I'm still enjoying re-reading the JD Robb "In Death" series. I'm waiting for one to come in at the used bookstore that the library doesn't have. I read a book I really liked called "Immortal Beloved" and it's the first in a trilogy. I will call the library and see if they have the other two. These 'immortals' are like the old TV series "Highlander" and it's well-written. I also read a young adult book that apparently has several others that follow the same kids. Mr. Benedict's smart kids thwart world takeover. I liked it. I've got to get busy sorting and wrapping the books for the advent book piles. I hope I have enough for 4 but I'm thinking probably only 3 and won't buy more. I'll save the spares as a start for next year.

I just finished "The Fountainhead" by Ayn Rand. Had read "Atlas Shrugged" many years ago. Still re-reading the "In Death" stories although I have several in the bags ready to go to the used book store! Lots of my David Baldacci are going. Working on putting together my Christmas/Advent 25 books to be opened each day up until Christmas. I scored a great bunch at the Salvation Army on Saturday!

I have been re-reading the "In Death" series by J.D. Robb basically over and over. There are 50 books in the series and the new one doesn't come out until September. I think it must be the comfort of 'old friends'. Have only picked up a couple new books and none that really held my interest except one about 'blue people' and the book delivery program in the 1930's. Can't think of the name of it.

The library did close! I won't rant about how I feel about that. Can't even get them to deliver books at the door?

I read a sad story "She Sings of Old, Unhappy, Far-Off Things". Have been rereading some of the earlier "In Death" stories on my Kindle . Finished the J. Edgar Hoover biography. He was a paranoid weirdo! Pulled several from the TBR (To Be Read) stack. Put together 2 milk crates of books to take to the used bookstore in the atrium mall! Poor young guy just recently bought it and now suffering like a lot of small business owners in the quarantine!

Will start "Every Breath" by Nicholas Sparks tonight!

Am reading "Echoes in Death" and have none left from the library! Selfishly worried the library will be one of the places they close down over this COVID-19 scare! I'll be up bright and early Monday morning to get a bunch more! I think there are 7 more in this series for a total of 50! I have plenty to read in my own stacks and on the Kindle but would like to finish this series!

Re-read 1-3 on the Kindle waiting for the library to call and let me know "Brotherhood" was in. Read it in one day and have just started "Apprentice". It was fun to go back to the beginning when she first met Roarke and before she was joined with Peabody!

I should do decluttering but I am going to read instead. Cooking at the senior center Wednesday through Friday! Supposed to snow Wednesday through Sunday!

Finished "Concealed in Death" and started "Festive in Death" but took a break to read a wonderful fantasy story that showed up on my
Kindle, called "St. Patrick's Gargoyle" . What fun! The gargoyle guards St. Patrick's church in Dublin and is called, what else? Paddy! Good v.evil with Knights of Templar thrown in. I thought it would be a fun St. Paddy's season read but had nothing to do with St. Patrick's day! Premise is gargoyles were avenging angels down-sized after Old Testament! I loved it!

Read "Thankless in Death". Thankless because it's centered around Thanksgiving and a selfish jerk who kills his parents and his ex and is planning to kill anyone who has disrespected him! Very violent death so was hard to read in some places. Next one on the stack is "Concealed in Death" . Might be time to switch to lighter reading? Had nightmare about Thankless!

"The Invitation"
~By Oriah Mountain Dreamer

"It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living
I want to know what you ache for
and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing.
It doesn’t interest me how old you are
I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool
for love
for your dreams
for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn’t interest me what planets are squaring your moon…
I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow
if you have been opened by life’s betrayals
or have become shriveled and closed
from fear of further pain.

I want to know if you can sit with pain
mine or your own
without moving to hide it
or fade it
or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with joy
mine or your own
if you can dance with wildness
and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your
fingers and toes
without cautioning us to
be careful
be realistic
to remember the limitations of being human.

It doesn’t interest me if the story you are telling me
is true.
I want to know if you can
disappoint another
to be true to yourself.

If you can bear the accusation of betrayal
and not betray your own soul.
If you can be faithless
and therefore trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see Beauty
even when it is not pretty
every day.
And if you can source your own life
from its presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure
yours and mine
and still stand on the edge of the lake
and shout to the silver of the full moon,
"Yes."

It doesn’t interest me
to know where you live or how much money you have.
I want to know if you can get up
after a night of grief and despair
weary and bruised to the bone
and do what needs to be done
to feed the children.

It doesn’t interest me who you know
or how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand
in the center of the fire
with me
and not shrink back.

It doesn’t interest me where or what or with whom
you have studied.
I want to know what sustains you
from the inside
when all else falls away.
I want to know if you can be alone
with yourself
and if you truly like the company you keep
in the empty moments. "

I really like her books! Found this quote and wanted to share! The 3 books of hers that I have read are "The Invitation" , "The Call' and "The Dance" .

Whew! Just now finished reading "New York to Dallas" . Tough to read that childhood abuse stuff! Will take it and "Treachery in Death" to the car and bring in the next 3. Left them there to haul in groceries. Can drop these two off to the library book return slot when I head to the pool later!

Finished "Treachery in Death" last night! Another good one! About a bad cop on the take with several of her squad helping - even killing - other cops who won't go along. Reminded me of the first time I saw Al Pacino! Anyone remember "Serpico"? I thought that was such a scary movie because it was based on a true story.

Just finished "Indulgence in Death"! Very good! 2 extremely wealthy powerful men are killing as a competition or game thrill kill? Some tense moments and a great ending! I also started one by Rysa Walker on the Kindle! It's "Time Border". Another in the fantasy time travel genre! I think 4 in the series?

Had a busy, productive morning and spent the whole afternoon reading! Best kind of Sunday for me!!

Just finished "Fantasy in Death". Was good story but started out slow. Mostly because it was about computer games and virtual reality and stuff I don't care about! But always good when the murder victim is in a locked room and it is not possible someone else went in or out! Have some chores and will start on the next one in the series later tonight!

Just finished "Not a Sound" by Heather Gudenkauf

This was a book I found on a bench in a park! (no one else in park) It looked like it was only read once (one dog eared page, otherwise new). About a deaf nurse, in Iowa, that finds a body while kayaking with her service dog and is then stalked. Good but made me nervous!

Just finished "Salvation in Death" by J.D. Robb! Another good one. A priest is murdered and also one of those wealthy media mogul ministers! It was fast-paced and enjoyable reading on a cold February Tuesday!

Just finished "Strangers in Death" by J.D. Robb! It was great!!! I didn't see the connection coming. I love it when I can't figure out "who dunnit" ! I have 3 more in the series on the bookcase headboard. Next up is "Salvation in Death". I am about 75% done with one on the Kindle called "Stopping Time" which I don't really care for, might not finish; and the J. Edgar Hoover biography. But I need to do some chores so will get busy!

Read "The Girl You Left Behind" by JoJo Moyes! Good story about the German occupation of France during WWI and the recovery of stolen art work! Will look for more of her books at the library! I picked up 4 more J .D. Robb from the "In Death" series while I was at the library today dropping off 10 pies I baked for the annual Valentine's Day pie social! All set to snuggle in for the weekend!

Really need to finish up the shelving project in the kitchen!

The three books were "Atlantis Gene", "Atlantis Plague" and " Atlantis World" by A.G. Riddle! I was fascinated! A little more sci-fi than I usually enjoy but the kind where you're not really sure if the science is real or not!

Started right in and read straight through "Librarian of Auschwitz" . Really good story! I'm going to find her autobiography!

Now need to get back to work! I probably won't get valentines mailed! Spent too much time reading! Who knows, maybe I will just sit down and get them sent, even if they are late!?? I still have a stack of New Year's cards on the headboard that I never got addressed and mailed.

Finished the first book in the Atlantis trilogy and started on the second! It's very interesting - a pandemic being released by aliens from Atlantis. A little like a Michael Creighton thriller and interesting because of all the over-hyped news about the Corona virus going on now. Realized 100 years ago it was the "Spanish flu" that wiped out so many worldwide! Every hundred years in the 20's - 1620, 1720, 1820, 1920!

Being "responsible" and reading a chapter or two then doing a chore, then more reading! Making progress on all fronts this way!

Read 3 very different books this week!
"When the Cypress Whispers" by Yvette Corporon . About a NY woman who goes back to a small Greek island to visit her beloved Grandmother and get prepared for her wedding.

"We Set the Dark on Fire" by Trip or Kay Mejia. A dystopian world where young girls are schooled in the art of becoming wives and mothers for wealthy young men. The man gets 2 wives. One is basically the personal Secretary or administrative assistant, the other the mother of his children. Had a kind of "Handmaid's Tale" vibe. First in a series.

"New Life, No Instructions" is a great memoir by Gail Caldwell. She gets a new Samoyed pup, total hip replacement . Leg damaged by polio in the early 1950's. Great writing. Wonderful story!

Finally going to start "Official and Confidential The Secret Life of J. Edgar Hoover" . By Anthony Summers! He was such a paranoid weirdo I can hardly wait!

I'm still reading J.D. Robb. Had to go to the library and pick up a copy of "Memory in Death" because in chatting with BARBIE 52 I realized I had missed that one! Reading out of sequence is frustrating sometimes! Luckily the library had it. Read it and then skipped ahead to "Creation in Death" which I had checked out a couple weeks ago! Just finished it!!! Another good page turner. Will take these back and hopefully be able to check out the next 4 in this series!

I read every day! I am always kind of embarrassed when I look at a list of "classics" and realize I have never taken the time to read them. I just love detective /mystery,covert operations kinds of stories and it dawned on me I had never read Agatha or Arthur Conan Doyle! So I put them in the winter reading pile a few years ago! Love the "new" Sherlock Holmes on PBS!

Last winter I gathered a stack of Zane Gray! Never cracked one open. Maybe this year? I finished the three Colin Dexter Inspector Morse books from interlibrary loan and returned them tonight. Have 3 more on order! Am fitting in the "_____ In Death" by J. D. Robb. I'm on #28 and there are 49 in the series!

The cold finally showed up. It's minus 12 with a minus 32 wind chill out now! I have an old friend that I visit every night at 2200 so I can take off his compression socks for him. We usually watch the news up until 20 after when sports comes on. I sure hated starting up and warming up the car tonight! Best part was no new snow so I didn't have to deal with that!

Sure wish these old dogs would use puppy papers but they would rather explode? At least they don't mess around when they go out! They get their business done and rush back in! Now we're snuggling under the covers and I'll read myself to sleep!

I'm halfway through the second Inspector Morse book! Hopefully finish tonight so they can be returned to the library on Saturday! Will read the third one since it's here, but don't think I will bother ordering the rest? They are okay but I have lots of other reading that seems like it will be more fun! The new Mike Rowe I got for Christmas is next on the list!

Going through stacks of magazines to donate or recycle! I decided I am going to stop buying the "Woman's World" and "First" magazines! I always think I will try the recipes but never do! Have file folders of recipes, exercises, health tips, diet ideas and it seems like once they go in the folders they just end up in a stack I never look at again?!

I should learn how to do it online. I think that is an option at my library but not sure. They aren't very helpful. I miss the old librarian and the wonderful women who have all retired now. The new staff is not good!

Just a note to let you know I finally got book #1 in the Inspector Morse series! I requested them through interlibrary loan. #2 arrived first from Devereaux, SD School of Mines & Technology, #3 arrived from the Coeur D'Alene, Idaho Public Library and today I picked up "Last Bus to Woodstock" which came from the Brookings, SD Public Library! Will start reading them tonight! Just thought you might find it interesting (and a little geography lesson) for how our library systems work here at the end of the earth!

The one I read every year is from 1976! I've had several - usually find them in used book stores! My mom used to get a new one every year but hasn't for probably the last 20! They are great to read starting right after Thanksgiving!

Picked up "Last Seen Wearing" by Colin Dexter. Got it from interlibrary loan. It's an Inspector Morse novel. There are several and the BBC series is based on them! Looking forward to starting it tomorrow!

Karen I love the Guidepost Christmas stories. My all-time favorite is Wallace Purling giving up his own "room at the inn" for Mary and Joseph! Have read it on Christmas Eve for many, many years! The "Dime Store Angel" is another one I just love!

I read "Where the Crawdads Sing". Loved that story. Got several new books for Christmas. Looking forward to the new Mike Rowe, "The Way I Heard It". Got the newest Christmas short story from Jody Taylor on my Kindle on 12/24 so read it Christmas Eve!

Have #27 in the "in Death"series from the library and when it's done will start on some of the presents!

Library is open til 9 tonight. Have 5 books to take back. 4 are paperbacks in the J.D. Robb series and one a kind of autobiography/agricultural business story by a guy who raised ancient grains about 35 miles south of where I live!

I have not been reading much because I have been doing chores! house is almost empty- oh the things I have found! may no longer need to buy clothes again! some still have tags on.

But I did manage to read "The Lying Room" by Nicci French. Started off slow but I enjoyed it finally.

Now reading "the Library Book" by Susan Orlean. It's about the LA Public Library burning in 1986. This bothered me I didn't know about it and it's only 80 miles from here. It happened when the Chernobyl disaster did. I went back in memory and when it happened we were in Yosemite to celebrate my birthday- that's how I always spent my birthday as an adult pre child- in Redwoods, either along the coast (Big Bason) or in Sierras ( Yosemite or Sequoias). But wow! the library burned, cannot even imagine!

I remember Joni. She was just on Huckabee a few weeks ago so maybe promoting a new book? I can't read the books about abuse. Give me nightmares. I might have to see if I can find the book by Joni. I like some of the ones about heaven and some I think are just hookum.

I finished two books this month.

The first was a book on Heaven written by Joni. She is the lady who is paralyzed from neck down. It was good but pretty deep in some chapters so it was not a quick read for me.

The other book I read in just a few days. It was CINDERGIRL. It is the story of a lady that was abused in many ways mostly by her mother & uncle. I could hardly put it down.

I've been reading way too much and not getting my chores done! I started reading J.D. Robb series 'In Death' and have been binge reading. I'm on book 6 and there are 42 or 45 of them. The only thing that will save me from myself is if Jill didn't buy more than 6 for the Kindle library. I'm almost positive they are her purchase? I just share them but don't buy. Suppose I could find them at the library but really need to stop reading and get some things done!

The Book about the Time Police was actually called "Doing Time" emoticon Finished it this morning. Really enjoyed it. Certainly sets up a whole new series.

Read the big fat Sunday Great Falls Tribune. It was bought by Gannett so lacks some of the best parts. Not even posting the Montana college football game scores. Sure disappointed!

"The Book that Matters Most" about a book club with members who chose the book that mattered most to them for the next year's reading list! Funny, sad, makes me want to join a book club!

"Crime Beat - A Decade of Covering Cops and Killers" by Michael Connelly. Good stuff! He wrote several stories with Harry Bosch as the main character. I have thoroughly enjoyed the series on Amazon prime so will get the books from the library to read over the winter!

Also picked up "Through My Eyes" by Tim Tebow. Should be interesting with Drew Brees in the news right now? Funny, I thought we had freedom of religion in our country?

This autobiography was written and published before he got fired from the Broncos. My BFF is a big fan of sports and autobiographies so got it for her.

Take time to laugh. It is the music of the soul. Take time to think. It is the source of power. Take time to play. It is the source of perpetual youth. Take time to read. It is the fountain of wisdom. Take time to pray. It is the greatest power on Earth. Take time to love and be loved. It is a God-given privilege. Take time to be friendly. It is the road to happiness. Take time to give. It is too short a day to be selfish. Take time to work. It is the price of success. - Anonymous ( I stole it from the wonderful L*I*T*A) - just too good not to share!

"The Holy Man" by Susan Trott. It's a great little story (parable) about the search for happiness on the path to top of the mountain where the holy man is. I read it years ago (and there is a sequel) but found my old copy while cleaning a book shelf and remembered it fondly. Just knew I found it for a reason today!

Sorting through the bookcases to find the ones I'm willing to part with! I keep doing this but keep buying more at thrift stores and rummage sales! My mom had a bunch of David Baldacci bagged up but I snagged them. I will put them in the series order and keep them! Want to re-read his "Camel Club" series this winter!

Also putting all the Christmas related books into a milk crate for the basement. Started giving a stack of 25 wrapped books to families at Thanksgiving to be opened each night of Advent. It's been such a hit I look for them everywhere I go.

About halfway through "A Thousand Summers". A beautiful love story!

Will finish up the 4th in this Harley Merlin series by Bella Forrest. The other 5 aren't in my e-reader library and I'm not that interested. There is a new one by Jodi Taylor writing under another name that I am anxious to start so when I finish up this Merlin book I'll start it.

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.
.

Taking the Michael Connelly series back to the library. Just finished #4 in the Jodi Taylor series. Ended up going back to the beginning. I need to get things done around here before I start in another series. I am ready to get into some heavy Spring Cleaning and then will start my summer reading!

Been rereading "Chronicles of St. Mary's" by Jodi Taylor. The newest one popped up in my Kindle library (#10) so I read it! Had forgotten some crucial details so started back at #5. Found what I was looking for in #8. Should finish #9 tonight and then will start on the Michael Connelly series!

Finished the David Baldacci and passed it on to my mom. Read both of the books on Alzheimer's and so did my mom. I got the latest Jodi Taylor "Hope for the Best" which is the newest in the Chronicles of St. Mary's. I really enjoy this series.

Went to the library and forgot to take back the Alzheimer's books emoticon but picked up 4 Michael Connelly books from the Bosch series. The first one was missing. I found the series on my Kindle and basically binge watched the first 4 seasons and season 5 just came out. Will see how the books compare to the series.
