I'm grateful for my wonderful neighbors, Darren and Denise! I'm blessed to have Brad in my life for those construction things I have questions about or need help with. He sent me his right hand man, Eli. Eli was an angel in dealing with me and my collapsing patio cover. Truly full of gratitude for both those men this past week. I'm very thankful my old dogs are still here! I really thought that this would be the week I would have them put to sleep. As long as they aren't in pain and can keep running up the walk they are staying with me! I'm grateful for the thawing that allowed me to get the huge drift that looked like an iceberg off the patio cover. Now to get all the snow that was up there and is now on the patio shoveled to the grass. Supposed to have some upper 40° temperatures this next week. Much more like the usual weather leading up to Thanksgiving. I'm grateful for everything this morning!

A short inspiration expert from a lovely book called Loving My Actual Life by Alexandra Kuykendall ...

"We have lots of expectations that we bring into our everyday. Often we don't even know we carry them until we feel disappointment creep in. When we slow down we can recognize these expectations, come to terms with our reality and then notice what we do have. When I pay attention to the good currently in my life my gratitude grows. Grateful people are happier people. I can't be grateful for the details of my life if I don't pay attention to them. We live at rapid speed these days. Our years are made up of days which are made up of hours and moments. The smaller moments are the building blocks of our lives. When we notice them and appreciate them we are making small decision after small decision to fully embrace today live out of gratitude.”

What small detail of your life are you grateful for today?

emoticon HAPPY HALLOWEEN! A Halloween full moon visible for all time zones on Earth hasn't happened since 1944. It's also a blue moon, being the second full moon in this month. Wild times. May things change dramatically for the better for this beautiful planet and for all of us who call it home.

Grateful for a lazy Sunday afternoon! Got my shoveling, shopping and hockey game cheering my neighbor girl done before 11. Grateful no more snow fell and the sun was out! Really thankful I found my address book! Almost had a meltdown looking for it! Thankful for the further motivation to keep getting rid of the piles instead of getting overwhelmed and giving up!

Today I am thankful for the little bit of sun this morning so the dog and I could enjoy the quiet in our yard and then for the rainfall we had in the afternoon. Our drought ended last year but our resevoirs need filling! It was a rather great day in all.

(and thank you for the kind words!)

Today I am thankful to be in a new home. I truely disliked that house and I would tell my husband "it's killing me" and it was, it was killing my spirit so that I got to the point I just wouldn't get off the couch, I just no longer cared. Jeff's dad died in 2008 and because he frequented the house I had tried to keep it presentable. But we had a rotten front door and I was in a losing battle with rodents coming in under it. They were ruining our furniture. The landlord got an estimate for a replacement of the door a month after Guy died, it was expensive. He never replaced the door. I totally gave up. And as our parents all died we got all their stuff. We could barely walk in that house and only 2 non family members entered it in the last 10 years. I never spoke of it to anyone and even getting it out here lifts a burden. Oh Lord, I am thankful!!!

I did not realize how Thankful I would be.

I'm so excited. My neighbor has a ratty garage next to mine and so I went to ask if he would rent half of it to me. He said he had bought a house and was moving. That was a month ago. So I kept thinking I would call his land lady and see if I could rent it...would solve my getting rid of the stuff stored in my mom's side so she could use the garage.

Well, today, I finally called. She wants more money than I wanted to pay, but it's worth it. Also, as an answered prayer, the double bed I had in there could fill a need for a friend who has taken in her old auntie. She just needed one "for a few weeks" so I was happy to oblige.

Glad you like it! It's one of my favorites!!

Trying to be thankful for the howling winds. I'd like it better if it wasn't blowing more leaves into my yard.

Thankful Gus wasn't really hurt when Jack (the new wild dog) crashed into him and knocked him down on the sidewalk last night. Poor old guy! A long massage for his back and hips and he was pretty good. I'm still struggling to give him the injections. But the new medicine seems to be helping Gus and I am grateful for that!

Grateful the event on Saturday is going to let me set up a table to get my Christmas cards for deployed soldiers signed. That will work out much better for me than trying to get the senior citizens to do it on their lunch tables!

Grateful to have given Grace her bath today! She looks just beautiful all puffed up and pearly white! She feels so soft and fluffy!

Grateful to have power in this high wind. Sounds like Helena has 12,000+ without power today!

Grateful to have laundry and ironing done. Back to work tomorrow!

Grateful that I have such a big, deep bathtub to relax in! Lots of things I would like to change in this dump but the tub is a real blessing!

Today was much like yesterday! Glad the dogs were happy to settle in while I napped! So thankful for those little fluff balls!

Thankful for a wonderful big soaker tub! Thankful I could enjoy the smells of the essential oils today. Still congested but getting better every day!

Grateful I took the time to make a list of all the things that need to be done. It's a long list but helps so much to be able to set the priority items! I think it will feel good to check off several items each day! So thankful I don't have much work this week so I can do my own projects!

Enjoying some taped programs today. PBS series of Country Music was very interesting. Just a few tubs to move & my garage will be ready to drive my car in. Getting chilly here in Ohio.

Grateful for being able to nap on and off most of the day! Feeling better but still an ear ache and nasty cough! I didn't make it to my Saturday Salvation Army excursion not the 25% off everything sale at the grocery store! Thankful for money saved!

Grateful we are supposed to have 5 days of no precipitation and temps in the 50's so hope to get garage cleaned out so mother can park in there!

Grateful I was able to take my great grandson to a library book sale. I don't need books or movies but always find some. I found some interesting Guidepost books & a cookbook called Crazy Plates. I have it but not sure if my sister does. It is written by 2 sisters from Canada. It was bag day & I still had room in my bag. LOL

My grandson carried my bottles of water in from car & pulled my kitchen window down for me.

Tonight I am thankful that we didn't get much snow out of the last storm. I am thankful that the new medicine for Gus is cheaper and seems to be working. I am grateful for a toasty warm home! I am thankful I love to cook and have been making soups and stews for the freezer. I am grateful the new dog is settling in. I thought I would have to return him!

It just keeps snowing but I am so very grateful that I have been able to keep up with it. I am grateful that we still have power. I am grateful that I have not lost any trees - the trees in my yard that are bent to the ground will bounce back when the weight of the snow is off of them. I am so very grateful that the patio cover did not collapse under the weight of the snow. There are lots of tree branches and big limbs all over town. The clerk at the grocery store told me her son had called to tell her that their patio cover collapsed. I am especially grateful to have found a nice guy that I think will come and shovel snow for me all winter!

A few years ago I got the 'contract' from a guy who came whenever it snowed and did the shoveling. I got it as a Christmas present for my mom. Worked well for us. You paid upfront and if there was no snow, you were just 'covered' and it happened to be a horrific snowy winter so I ended up couple months having to pay more. Still well worth it. Last winter there was just no one available to do it. So I explained to this young guy and he seemed to think he could do that. It's a great gift to give to elderly people! My mom always freaks out about the front walks - even though only the paper boy uses them!!

Thankful that I don't have to cook for the crew today! One more lazy day! Have cube steaks thawing, lasagna in the freezer, so only have to do salads and pies and deviled eggs the next couple days. Will be a giant load of ice though!

Very windy but so far, no rain. Seems it was every where around us. We just got trace and some places almost 2 inches over the weekend? That's why no cutting today...too wet in the fields!

So thankful I was able to get an appointment today for a massage. Usually it takes a couple of weeks and I am in pain from pulling a groin muscle and my lower back so the fact that Kevin could get me in this afternoon was such a wonderful thing.

I'm thankful that it's cooler today. Would have been nice to have this cooler weather during harvest but harvest is always hot and dry. We had a little rain last night and lots of thunder and lightening. Supposed to be much cooler this weekend and rainy so wonder if we really will start harvesting the spring wheat on Monday or if it will be too wet.

Feeling good after a long night's sleep! Life is good!

Montana is so different from the West to the East, but it’s all beautiful and unique. One thing that doesn’t change in any of the regions is the hard working good people and the beautiful moments we share mixed with nature. This is God’s country. And I feel so very blessed to live here!

Had a trying day yesterday. I asked my mom to ride along when I went out to Nick's farms to pick up the coolers I use for harvest cooking. It was the hottest day of the year so far (and we hit 100°!!! emoticon

We got the coolers and headed out on the county dirt roads for another one of the farms so she could see how the wheat and other crops looked. The little pick-up died. And it just kept dying. I walked a couple miles back to where I had seen a vehicle out looking at their fields. They were gone by the time I got back. My mom was nervous and irritable and complaining. I kept calm and just kept making forward progress. I finally got us up to the main shop and no one was working but was able to make it past the shops and up another half mile to one of the houses. I opened the door and hollered but no one answered. I went in to use the phone and then it dawned on me the phone was in the shop, not the house since everyone who stays there has their own cell phones. (and I couldn't find my cell phone since returning from my trip to the VA hospital last month). As I was on my way out to tell her to come in and cool off, Charles came up from the basement. We scared each other to death!!! He didn't hear me holler but then thought he heard someone walking and thought it was his girlfriend back from the grocery store!

I asked him if he thought i might just be like the old 'vapor lock' because of the heat. He's not very mechanical but he did use his phone to call the guy who had just done $1000 worth of tune-up and repair work. That guy told me it might be 'vapor lock' and I could try just limping it back to town - about 30 miles. Charles offered to take us back but was worried about not having a/c in his old Blazer. I was worried about Mother but she was friendly and chatty. Charles called Nick and he said he was just getting the "Kiwi's" settled in and would be over in a hour or so to see if he could help. He arrived about an hour later and told me to just take the RAV4 back to town and then he could tow the pick-up tomorrow or the next day. So I took mother home in the RAV4.

Fixed her some dinner and then headed out to trade vehicles. She thought it was stupid for me to try to get it back to town. I had a 10:00 appointment the next morning to get another tooth extracted. I figured it would be hot again and I wouldn't be feeling well and I wanted to get the pick-up back to town to have it looked at. Plus I didn't like the RAV4. I didn't want to use Nick's vehicle. I just had to have faith that the pick-up was fine, but just hot and tired from going slow in the heat. I headed out and there was a whole lot of lightening to the south and the west. The temperature was dropping. I was hoping it didn't hail. I've never driven those farm roads in the dark and that was a different experience. Just as I turned off the highway it started to rain. The lightening was moving to overhead and to the north.

It was a beautiful storm. I love the smell of rain on the dust! I love the negative ions in the air. I am totally in awe of the beauty of lightening. Nick had gotten down off the tractor he was working on because of the lightening. He was tired and wanting to go home but needed to get the oil change finished because someone was coming out to work it early in the morning. We stood and talked and watched the storm - enjoying the wind and lightening. We saw a lightening strike hit the ground near the town of Kremlin and all the lights went out. We supposed that it hit the power substation. Was strange to see the whole tiny town go dark on the horizon. I decided it was time to test my faith and headed over to the pick-up. My back up plan was that if I didn't make it, eventually Nick would be along and find me along the highway.

I drove with no problem up to the highway. Pulled onto the highway and headed for home in the rain - and the passenger wiper blade was flopping. So grateful it was the passenger and not the driver side wiper blade! Ran through all the gears and the pick-up was running fine. Made it home. Was going to stop at Wally World and get another Trac phone but figured Mother would be freaking out about whether I had made it so I came on home after filling up with gas. She was good. Said she knew how I was and I would get home somehow, some time. I appreciated that more than she will ever know.

So I'm seriously grateful this morning for all the things that went right and that there is no problem with the little pick-up. I also was late for my dental appointment and so they said they'd have to reschedule me. That was also a huge blessing. I scheduled the extraction for the end of August so I don't have to deal with it until after harvest. And when I finally got to Wally World it was almost closing time and no one was available to help me with a new Trac phone...and guess what I found this morning? I am feeling really blessed that things work out exactly how they are supposed to. I am also so grateful for the awesome power of nature. I am grateful that no fires were started by the lightening and that it never did turn to hail. I am going to start some laundry and replace the wiper blade and get busy on some chores I was afraid I wouldn't get to because of having the tooth pulled. The one I had pulled last week is healing well. Life is good!

Glad we had such a successful rummage sale and fry bread and Indian taco sale at the Senior Center. It's a good fund-raiser for us and seems like just too much trouble for many of our elders to go up to the fairgrounds these daze...plus not much up there to see anymore. I think county fairs on going the way of the dinosaur even though there are groups that don't want to see that happen. Just no volunteers to work the booths and not enough people going out to them anymore. I remember how I used to love the fairs all over the state.

I am thankful for a nice, funny doctor at the ER last night and an amazing nurse that I know. I went to the dental clinic for a toothache yesterday. I walked in because they had not returned my calls. They got me in. The tooth was abscessed so they pulled it right then. I was concerned about not getting an antibiotic before the extraction nor one to go home with. By 9 p.m. I couldn't swallow. Went up the the ER and they gave me IV antibiotics and did a CAT scan to see how far the infection had spread. I was there over 5 hours but they took really good care of me. I'm so thankful to have a good ER for this kind of stuff.

I am also grateful that they were able to get me in to see the dentist as quickly as they did. I have another appointment with him in a couple of hours for the 'comprehensive' exam. I am terrified of dentists. He seemed pretty good so will give it a chance. I was expecting to have to wait weeks to get in and the tooth was really bothering me so I'm glad, that even though the infection almost got out of control, that I was able to get in and that the extraction wasn't too painful and I liked the guy's "bedside manner".

I'm also grateful on this windy morning for the great mechanics that have my little pick-up. I had to have my mom call them and tell them to park it inside for over night since the locks don't work. When I called at 11 this morning the mechanic told me the good news/bad news stuff. It needs to go for shocks and it's more money than I wanted to spend...but I will be driving it on the highway and on dirt county roads with no cell (or any other kind of) service and with these guys, I feel comfortable that they are doing a good job and I will be safe. I am also thankful that I have the money to pay for the repairs and maintenance. I am just thankful to be feeling better and that it's not too hot today. I am going to take a bath and get ready to go back to the dentist. It's a good day.

Had to get up and take the car down for a tune up. The check engine light is on and it's the #2 and #4 cylinder. Hope it only needs spark plugs changed but we shall see. It also needs shocks and struts. I am so thankful that I have mechanics that I trust that keep my old vehicles running. I am so proud of these guys for opening up their business and the fact that they are so busy because they are so good. (even if it means I have to wait weeks to get an appointment). It's great to see people who love their jobs and provide good service succeed!

Thankful I got the grass mowed! Need to weed eat some of the hillside (too steep for a swather) to get the yard finished but sure looks better! Thankful I didn't drive to Great Falls yesterday to watch the WWII planes land! They didn't come - bad weather from Kalispell! Grateful most of the fireworks have stopped! Grateful that even though we are under a severe thunderstorm watch for this evening and tomorrow it won't be earthquakes!

The best cure for stressing is to count your blessings...and a long walk won't hurt either!

So thankful that the storm yesterday wasn't as bad as predicted. There was a tornado and also baseball sized hail but none of that within 100 miles of us. The weather service alerts made me really nervous!

"Close friends are truly life's treasures. Sometimes they know us better than we know ourselves. With gentle honesty, they are there to guide and support us, to share our laughter and our tears. Their presence reminds us that we are never really alone." - Vincent Van Gogh

I have come to love the word CELEBRATE over gratitude.
When I am celebrating life, I am really grateful for it.
