ok group please dont be jealous but i think i have the best endocronoligist ever.
went back monday for my 4 week check up, he wanted me to lose 4 lbs and i only lost 1, and he said thats great and shook my hand. I looked at him a bit confused and said but you wanted me to lose 4, he said but you lost 1 and that means your trying. he said its not your fault you are over weight and a diabetic. i said huh? he said you are programed, he said look at the commercials on tv and all the fast food places. he said sure you can tell your self you dont want to go there, but your being brainwashed because it looks so good.

i was like wow!!! i like him.
but anyway last visit he had upped my metformin from 500mg 2 times a day to 1000 mgs 2 times a day, when i went in this monday he said didnt seem to help my counts. so he gave me a metformin extended release, 750 mg 3 times a day plus a new one called Glimepiride 2 mg to take once in the morning. he said when you take these meds. take them during your breakfast lunch and dinner. not before and not after. i think the metformin before was what was giving me nausea, and i know now it was giving me loose stools. so the new metformin is suppose to control that. he still says no snacking. have a breakfast a lunch and a dinner. different foods but same portion size per meal, and no dairy or any type of soda's. he said i will guarantee you will lose weight. i am trying so hard. and he also said i can have anything i want only in portion control and be consistant with it.
yall let me know if anyone here takes either one or both of the new drugs he put me on and let me know how it went for you
thanks
peace out
janice

got blookwork and A1c is 5.7 YIPPIE !! but something went wrong with thyroid it went from 0.25 to 6.0 which is too high for the ave person.. especially me.. I feel good at 0-1

this could be why weight is not moving,,, I upped my meds since the doctors have not pow wowed.. hope to get a script for 300 mcgs... have been on that before.... I am not playing around and waiting a year to get back to 0

cholesterol is still bad..:0(

if its not one thing its another - I get 1 good and the other is off... tired... that is a thyroid effect too......

Had my first appt with the endocronologist and he is awesome!!
he studied in india so thought he would look indian, but he didnt, he was tall thin sorta attractive, and when he talked he sounded like Maks from Dancing with the stars. lol

so anyway, he told me my diabetes is not as bad as i think it is. he changed my meds from
500 mg of metformin twice a day to 1000 mg twice a day.

he also said there is 3 things that you need to know
1. consistency
2 consistency
3 consistency

he said stop getting caught up in your numbers. counting carbs and fat grams and proteins and checking your blood every day at the same day, he said looking at all those numbers get confusing to keep up with

he said just check your blood sugar once a day, and different time then the day before.
he said to lose weight if you do this you will lose weight.

he said spread your hand out as far as it will go. he said this is how much food you should each at each meal, with he said you can have bake chicken or roasted with a bake potatoe and salad, he said if you want a piece of cake have it just shrink down the other portions
he said no caffine, no milk products, and no cokes of any kind diet or any kind, because of the carbination it bloats you.
He said for me to eat only 3 meals a day, breakfast, lunch, dinner, no snacks.
he said you dont have to eat the same thing at each meal, it has to be the same portion size and to always drink 2 cups of water before each meal.
I can have pizza, spagetti, any thing as long as i watch the portion, veggies as much as i want, but for starch or meats should be 1/2 of my hand per selection.
he said if i follow this i will lose weight and that is my most major problem he said not my diabetes. I have another appt with him in a month, and i am supposed to only drop 4 lbs. how doable is that. on my milk i told him what i have is cereal either on saturday or sunday morning and i drink either the lactaid fat free milk or horison organic fat free milk. i love both of these milks. it says fat free, but doesnt look like it. it doesnt look like skim at all. very good. and he said that would be ok, he thought maybe i drank it in big glasses.
he said milk is high in carbs that its better to eliminate it.
so i will be starting this on monday. it will take that long to get groceries and stuff.
i think i will be on lean cusine and smart ones for awhile since i do not know how to cook that well or small. lol
any questions you want me to ask him on my next visit let me know.

I have not posted in quite a while. If you have time and an inclination read my last two blogs.
I quit smoking 3 and one half years ago at age 58. I soon turn 62. I do not miss it. I smoked for 45 years.
Write me a letter and ask questions there I will be glad to share the journey. Things that I learned helped me in changing eating habits also.
I am down to one pill twice daily for diabetes from 3.

I know if i am able to quit smoking that would help my blood sugar. so far i have been trying to for quite some time but every time i set a date i go into depression or an anxiety attack and cannot do it. so here is the deal i'm going to do it some time this month and not worry about setting a date as of right now.

Feeling better and it is even getting warmer outside. I did lose five pounds so I guess there is something for being sick, but I could have thought of a lot of better ways to lose it. Oh well my goal for the rest of the month is to keep it off and hopefully lose two more pounds for the rest of the month. Looking forward to the future and getting to my track weight. emoticon emoticon

Have a cold and I lost five pounds not sure if it permanent weight loss. Still trying to find cold medications that don't raise your blood pressure or your sugar level at the same time. Oh well this is temporary.

Everyone is different. It's good that you took your meds with food. I guess that really depends on what type of meds you're on. I was on metformin and it is best taken equally spaced apart and during a meal. My doctor told me to take it a breakfast and dinner.

Everything you listed has carbs in it. I try not to have more than a half carb choice (8-10 grams of carbs) if my reading is over 90. If over 100, then I wouldn't eat anything. If I do have anything, then I make sure I have some protein with it. Sometimes I'll only have a tablespoon of peanut butter if I really hungry and my reading is okay. It helps to curb my appetite.

Like I said, everyone is different. You'll have to test and track what works best for you. I used to have a snack at bedtime every night until I realized that I didn't need it most of the time. As you weight comes down, you may not need as much.

Hope this helps.

Good Morning everyone,
I dont post often but I have a question... Does anyone have a problem with milk making their numbers go up? Last night I took my BS and it was 91, which is awesome.. then i took my meds with a cup of milk, had a sugar free yougurt with a teaspoon of cream cheese blended in.. all low carb... that was around 10pm just took my BS.. no breakfast and its all most 11am and it was 123... all i did was brush my teeth!!

Thank you! It's been more of a challenge than I expected. I don't have my meds to keep my blood sugar in check so I feel like I've had to start over with eating, testing, tracking, and finding out what works. I'm sure it will come soon enough. Unfortunately, the lows hit lower than I'm accustomed to but my doctor assures me that I'll adjust as time goes on.

Have a great day!

Lost two pounds and I a feeling better. Didn't do any formal exercise sessions but I am doing my spring cleaning and stretching exercises for the next two weeks so I am getting plenty of excercise. Having a good week great way to work off stress as well. Meter numbers coming down to.

Have a great day!!!

Tammy, congrats on getting off the Metformin!

The diabetes classes and individual sessions with the counselor were very helpful to me too. They were very informative and supportive.
