I am beginning to exam my life and figure out why I am not succeeding. I do need to look at the inside out and get rid of some bad package, then I will start to succeed. Looking forward to the future and moving on with my life.

Have a great day!!!

That is too funny! I just had hot dogs last night for dinner with dill relish on them. It is one of my favorite condiments!! Did you drop a lot of weight only eating that amount of carbs per day then?

Hey Maryanne,
thanks for the info! I didn't know you could be insulin dependent and type 2! Even though I just have to watch my carb intake I really really really want to lose massive weight. I hope Spark is going to give me the motivation I need. emoticon

Hi Melissa,

Despite the wive's tales against it, you can eat whatever kind of carbs you want, you just have to count them. SparkPeople has some wonderful sources,.
I suggest reading on here (try the search function) for carbs counting.

It is much better to eat "healthy" carbs and you should do that most of the time. However, if you can say no after one or two, have a higher carb treat once in a while.

I find my blood sugar stays down best with 45 grams at a meal and 30 at the night time snack.
This is something you will find out as you evaluate your individual body's needs.

I am insulin dependent type 2. I have had to learn now how to allow for it, it is different than when I was on oral meds. I am much stricter with myself now, but I still enjoy a chocolate or two for my night snack.

If you sign up as a diabetic, SP will do the menus in your nutritian tracker as diabetc. Or you can count carbs or calories. Lo carb is an option, but not extremely low as it will affect your kidney function , maybe not right away but eventually.

Can anyone tell me how I'm supposed to be eating and how I can find a good diabetic diet here on Spark? They kinda just left me hanging and I have no idea what I'm doing. All they told me was I can only eat 60 grams of carbohydrates each meal and I should eat breakfast, lunch ,dinner and an evening snack at least 4 to 5 hours apart. I have no idea what kind of carbs I should and should not be eating. emoticon I'm so lost I don't know what I'm doing.

I envy reading how you ladies like doing your exercising. I'm not at that point yet , but I will be there soon! I'm so big (334) I still have to use a scooter to go grocery shopping (talk about embarrassing)! I can't wait for the day I get to post about how I went to Zumba! Keep up the good work! emoticon

Did 20 minutes of aerobic walking (a dog really helps), and a little strength training. Aiming to make this day two of an exercise streak. Five and a half weeks to a checkup, going to see how good I can make it.

I have been able to stick with my exercise goals this week because my cold is gone! Yeah!

How did the week of 05 February to 11 February go for you?

It is good to take inventory so we know what we need to focus on more effectively!

I did 67 minutes worth of exercise today. I am changing it up and am going to try to do about an hours worth of exercise on M, W, and F and start adding 10 minutes on S, T, Th, Sa. My goal is to work up to 90 minutes of exercise on 3-5 days per week.

Happy middle of January. I have not been very active on this team for a long time. I need some motivation to stay away from the bad carbs--those darn left over Christmas treats are lasting way too long. My blood sugars have been 102-118 in the morning before breakfast and I feel better when they are in the mid to upper 90's. I do not take medication--just diet and exercise right now--I would like to keep it that way. I did succeed in losing about 30 pounds last year but still have a very long way to go. Currently I am 216 and should get down to about 125-135. I am a 54 year old college student working on my bachelor's degree for Social Work and have only 3 semesters left. It would be so totally awesome to be at goal by the time I graduate in May of 2013! I am on winter break till the 30th of January and am bored to death even though there are lots of things around the house to sort through and organize.

I see that there are a few people who are regulars--if you could help in any way it would be appreciated.

Had my granddaughter stay the night last night and old habits die hard..... I ate grapes before I realized I hadn't taken my blood sugar levels. It may take me years to break these habits. I will check 2 hours after lunch today and see how things are going.

I seem to have a late night craving problem and it ends up being fruit most of the time. I guess that’s better than the ice cream fetish of last week. I have got to get control of this!

Hello I was put on new medication glizapan (think I am spelling that right), I take it with metaforam. But even with 2000 metaforam I am still running extremely high in the mornings. I can't get it below 150 but it is lower in the afternoon. Nothing has changed except I am on a allergy pill which I take at night.
Does anyone else have this problem, this new medication started out good and now there is no difference than before I started it. I am thinking about going to a specialist I am beginning to believe that my internal medicine doctor isn't going to be able t control it from now on. What do you think ? emoticon

Have a great day!!!

I been on Metformin for 3 years also.
I no longer drink sodas, stopped when I was diagnosed in 08.
With the holidays approcaching will be accountable for what I eat.
All my TOPS family have a bet to see who can lose the most weight
during the holidays.

Hello from Texas emoticon

I've been diagnosed with Type 2 for 3 years - Yikes, I just looked that up - that's a long time!

I'm trying to get motivated to loose weight and exercise so I can get off the Metformin and the HCTZ (water pill for slight blood pressure). The HCTZ has driven me nuts this summer with the extreme heat we've had. I think my gal pals are worried about me because I dehydrate so quickly. I actually do well on Metformin - I take 1500 mg / day and have not had an A1C above 6.8.

I feel like I've been on a 3 year plateau and I want off emoticon I've stopped all diet drinks - 2 months ago and counting emoticon Knowing that I've kicked a 30-year habit is very empowering! emoticon Next on the list are fried foods - I don't fry at home but I'm such a sucker for fast food french fries and tater tots. I'm at one week there!

I've just started reading "The Spark" book and was very moved by his ticker of his exercise streak that I think I'll try that next. 15 minutes at a time. I'm so slow - I've been a member on SparkPeople for over a year and I'm just getting into it.

yes i only have to take the g whatever it is pill once a day in the morning and i do take it with my breakfast. he said eat first in the middle of eating take meds finish eating.
usually i have breakfast at work between 8 and 830.
and each month i go see him his nurse takes my monitor and downloads the numbers for a print out for him to see. I am sure he will say something about the 56. i was just so nervous when it got that low i was so afraid that i would go into a siezure or something. first time it had happen. in 2 months he has taken me from 1000 mgs of regular metformin to 2,250 mgs of ER metformin. and then g pill. so maybe it was all just too much. i go back to see him on the 20th so i will find out. until then i am not going to take the g pill.
thanks for your advice i appreciate input

I'm on Glipizide which is the generic of your new drug I think. My Dr. told me that he would put me on it but I had to PROMISE him that I would eat after I took it because that's what that med does...it lowers your blood sugar. I have to eat within 15-30 mins. I am also to watch for mys sugar to drop below 70. Anything above that is ok (and of course not too high) so you shouldn't worry about being 98. I am often below 100 and that is more in control. Each person is different but I think those numbers sound more in control than your normal numbers. Obviously the numbers you had before the new med were not good or the Dr. wouldn't have added this med for you. They don't change plans that work. I think you should be thrilled that you numbers are going down. Yes, 58 is way too low! If my sugar goes below 70 I am to follow what they (dr., dietitian, educator) call 15-15. Eat/drink 15 carbs and wait 15 mins and take my sugar again. If the number isn't up to 70 then do it again.

I carry those round tablets you buy just for that reason...luckily I've never had to use them. But I am sure to take my meds before breakfast and dinner and then eat a meal within 15-30 mins.

I'm glad you got your numbers under control. :) I think you should report it to you doctor and let them make you feel better about the numbers. That's what you pay them for.

Enjoy today! emoticon

ok so i had a panic yesterday,

you know i told you all that the endo had put me on some new meds

Glimepiride 2 mg
and
metformin 750 ER

well i have been taking them let he said, my sugar levels have come down a bit staying around 130 and 170 which is kinda good for me.
i ate yesterday for breakfast 2 small boxes of those special K red berries, then i had a snack mid morning a special k fruit crisp, then for lunch had a lean cuisine meat loaf and mash potatoes, then mid after noon a sugar free chocolate jello pudding,
around 310 pm i started feeling very shaky and check my blood pressure it was fine then checked my sugar it was 56, i freaked out. it had never got that low.
i had a chocolate candy bar. made me feel bad all day,

i think its that Glimepiride 2 mg and i am not going to take it anymore.
they say sugar levels for diabetics shouldnt get below 130, and to keep it around there but man that scared me.
right now i am at 98 too scary for me

I had a sleep study over 10 years ago and was told I had severe apnea. Got a CPAP and having been using one ever since. It has been a blessing. I don't snore any longer (hubby's glad), I sleep through the night and I'm not tired during the day. I guess everyone's situation is different, but I'm glad to have my machine. I am fortunate to have good insurance which paid for the machine and replacement hoses, mask, etc. twice a year.

yes and it is why medical stuff is so expensive..
the 3rd husband was so bad he did need it- he stopped breathing for a long time all night- he did not like it and had surgery for tonsils out and remmed out his nose.. LOL.. no problem after that - but he was 100+ lbs over weight too.. and is more now from what I hear.. lost toes with the diabetes he would not stop eating bad carbs... we are divorced thankfully

The lady at the hospital and the lady that gave me the machine both said oh its better made now- I told them I did not want it if it still had the airflow strong all the time- I tried the ex's and could not breath out- they talked me into it - and I wanted to thru the thing at them when I took it back yelling that they tricked me to bill the insurance company ... was so mad... but they all made money......

I dont trust those sleep apnea people. i barely snore, and when i had mine, i dont think i slept very much because i am tall and long legged and the wires werent long enough for when i would stretch in my sleep they would come un done and they would have to wake me and hook me up again, this happen several times in one night. and they said that i only had a little bit of the apnea, but still wanted me to purchase and rent the equipment.
i said no thank you after i tried it for a few days,

I had the sleep apnea test at the hospital..and they say I have it....... but I do not think mine is... I use breath right strips and I can breath !!!!!!! even helps for a nap- I just thought I was a mouth breather.. but I think my nose is so small I can not breath thru it anyway... try them... you can even get a free sample- I think it is breathright.com..

Being extremely tired all the time can also be sleep apnea. My respitory specialist says that you will never lose weight if you have untreated sleep apnea.

I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea last Oct. and diabetic last March. Needless to say, now that both are being treated, I am eating better, and walking on the treadmill I'm losing weight and feel tons better! It is unbelievable. Part of me thinks I am not putting all that much effort into this so what other medical issue do I have that has weight loss as a symptom. Docs all say I'm ok now just doing the right thing.
