Not much action here. I guess Patty is not coming back this time. She has been gone for a long time.
The only sewing I do anymore is patching. I have a couple pairs of jeans to work on and also have a quilt that is coming apart and needs some new squares. Seems there is never enough time.

I got in two 30 minute sessions of swimming today. Lightning made me wait out the storm.

Sorry I am not here much. DH is to have liver and gallbladder surgery the 2nd of September in Houston. Lots of things to get done before then. Summertime on the farm and a lot of things to get organized.

I don't know what a wonder wallet is... I sewed myself a oval denim "pocket purse" with a zipper, though. I was sick of carrying a purse. I left mine in a restaurant a couple of years ago, and the money and my iPod was stolen from it, although it was turned in. I decided I could carry all my credit cards and cash in a small oval zippered pouch. My first one was dark denim with pin tucks, and my current one was made from a mid-blue embroidered denim. I used the same zipper in both, since the first one totally wore out.

Some fabric just isn't worth the bother to me. I sew almost exclusively cotton and rayon. I can't be bothered with the flimsy stuff. But I'm old and set in my ways... :-)

Well, I got the sleeve in, now I'm fighting with the
hem. Material is very delicate, I'm telling myself
this is a learning experience. Have pocketbook and wonder wallet cut out. Just waiting for hands to feel alittle better to sew. Tomorrow teaching teens at library how to sew wonder wallets with my charity sewing group.

It's going to hit 100 degrees today, so I planted some flowers in flower boxes early this morn. Will stay in today and try to do some sewing, still trying to fit a sleeve in a blouse I'm making.
Stay cool!

I've never learned to knit. My friend tried to teach me, but it just didn't work. I like the idea of crochet and tatting, too, but I never learned those either. I sew clothing and the occasional home decoration, I embroider sometimes and that's about it. :-)

Marlene; best of luck with DH's test and possible surgery, you will be in our prayers.
Knitting sounds so nice, I have to wait alittle longer for my hands and wrists to feel better before I can get back to the sweater I started.

Happy 4th to you, it has been raining here. We really need it. I am working none stop trying to get ready to go to Houston. Not sure when I will be back but I may have access to a computer at the motel. DH will be taking tests all week and then possible liver surgery.

I cut two skirts out to sew, a turquiose denim and a purple twill. I am in the mood to wear some bright summer colors! The pattern is a jean skirt with scoop pockets. I love those!

Hi Everyone, I have been making Cool Ties for my DH to wear to work, these ties are sent overseas to the troops to keep cool in the desert. I'm so happy to be feeling better and moving around. Working on a wonder wallet for myself, and a pocketbook for my mom-in-law's birthday next month. I was even able to do alittle cross stitch. Hope my body stays this good after prednisone! Enjoy the day. Ann

Good news! I'm on my third day of Prednisone, I have
a three week course to take. Swelling is going down, today, the weather got cool, so it's not a great day. I have lost the 15 lbs. I wanted too, but they are "sick" lbs., so I know they will creep back on as I heal. At this point, I don't care, just want my life back. Hope every one is feeling well, and doing some crafting!!! Healthy Reflections

Kindness is difficult to give away because it keeps coming back.- Church billboard in Louisiana

Being a positive force in someone's life

Perhaps you've seen how an upward spiral can happen as you build a healthy lifestyle. With momentum and small, but consistent, healthy actions, success comes easier and easier until results start to exceed the effort you put into it. Well, the same thing can happen when it comes to being a positive force for others. One small action leads to another, which can lead to many. Your actions may inspire others to do the same, with far-reaching results that completely outweigh that first effort. You'll probably have no idea how much of a total effect your actions will have. But that kindness will often be paid back two-, three- or even tenfold. If not from the person you helped, then from someone further down the "kindness" chain. So go try it out! Do a kind thing for the next person you meet, and see if you don't get a positive return.

Hi Everyone, Would you believe I am still down!!! I'm into the 3rd month of this, everyday some other joint is inflamed. I go Friday for another chest x-ray, phenumia better be gone, so I can try prednisone therapy. I did enjoy reading Arthritis today magazine today. They have a site that lets you know how the weather is affecting you everyday!
I have fabric to make a bunch of kool ties for hubby, he has an outdoor job. I may need his help to cut fabric, and on a good day, I'll try to sew.
Hope everyone is well, and enjoying nice weather. I, too, wish we can hear how Patti is.

Rainy day here. I have a quilt that my mother made that she gave to my son. It is in need of repair. I have part of it removed and new blocks made but that is as far as I have gotten. Seems like time or want to is the factor.

HEALTHY REFLECTIONS FOR MAY 24TH

No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.- Aesop, Greek author of fables

Investing time and energy in others

People usually talk of "spending" energy and time on others as if once it's used, it's gone. In reality, that effort is a powerful investment because you'll get more in return. When a match lights a candle, the match's flame doesn't shrink--if anything, it grows. In the same way, you'll be even more inspired and successful by building others up. The bonus is that they'll also be better equipped to return the favor. Take action today to make someone's life a little better. Come up with just one nice thing to do for each of the important people in your life, one little thing that can make all the difference. After all, what good does it do to improve your health or your life if you're not going to do anything with it?

A Dedication Gown is same as a Christening Gown. This is a service when the parents take the baby to the alter and before the church family dedicate her/him to the Lord. The parents stand before God to say they will do all they know how to raise the child in a Christian home and lead him to know Jesus in a personal relationship. Some churches do infant baptism during this service, but our church focuses on the parents and their vows of responsibility.

It's a beautiful service, and usually there are a few tears of joy! Many gown sets are handed down from one generation to another. I am doing a set for each one of our nieces and nephews on both sides. Ken and I gift these sets, and only ask that the parents search the scriptures and choose a "blessing scripture" for the baby...I print it and other details onto the inside seam of the gown. Just like taking communion, this is a special service to me and my hubby...and we feel it's worth the 300+ hrs and expense of the special fabrics it takes to make them.

Seems like everyone has had battles to fight health wise. I too took a stress test and had a heart cath that set my new start back awhile but i only had one small problem area that can be fixed with medication and so i am ready to start again...soon as i get over this intestinal virus i have had since friday!...I found out how to copy the menus i used in the very beginning back in 08 that worked really well for me and will use those and hopefully in the next few days will be starting my increase in activity....
wish someone would hear from Patti

Congrats on your good news, Tanya! I'm afraid I don't know what "Dedicated" means -- is that like Confirmation? Definitely we want pictures of the gowns you're making.

Marlene, thanks for starting this thread... And, I too, am concerned about Patty. Is there anyone that knows how she's doing??
Friday my cardiologist shared that my Cardiolite Stress Test results showed NO Blockages...and no need for by-pass :0! I give God the Praise! Now I'm trusting Him with all the rest, so I can get back to doing a full day's work :0).
My Great Niece will be Dedicated this Summer, so I will be getting back to some Heirloom sewing :0). Another Gown set-- And I'm starting to get excited! I just love working with that soft Satin Cotton Batiste;the smocking; making the battenburg lace insets, and the fancy bands with the cotton laces....just All of It! Even if these sets do take in excess of 300+ actual sewing hours (does not include the time to hunt down, order, and get my materials all delivered to our little town)---they are a labor of love!
Will try to keep you posted as the work progresses...
emoticon

PS: Ann, I will certainly keep you in my prayers this week for your healing!! Sounds like you've been "down" for a while, and tv/reading get old in a hurry!

Hi All, I have been sick since the beg. of April, first with pneumonia, then that brought on a horrible attack of RA. I have never had it so bad!
So, I have been reading and watching tv,that's about all I can handle right now. I go to the lung dr. later, I hope he has good news for me! I long to sit at the sewing machine again, hope it won't be much longer.

Thanks, but I still would have to sort them. I have many many many pictures and some I don't want. I will give them back to the families and they can scan them. DH had 8 brothers and sisters and I 7 so there are lots of pictures from babies to grown ups. I have no use for most of them.
I have lots of pictures in albums. One for each kid and then one for each grand kid. Now there are great grands but not making albums for them. DH had is in albums when we got married 56 years ago but the pages are deteriorated and now need to be redone, some of mine are, too.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Marlene, I believe you can have those photos scanned onto a disk. Then copies can be emailed to everyone. When that's done, put the originals into albums.

We've only been married 36 years and have a small family and I can't keep up. But it will only get worse, so better add it to my long term "to do" list. Seems like that list just keeps growing!

So sorry to hear about your DH. That has to be hard on you too. I'll be thinking of you and say some prayers.

Ellen, I am the same I have always been, not sure what I am trying to prove. I just want to keep busy everywhere except here at home. I need to get a little more motivated with all the junk that needs sorted. And pictures, they need to be sorted and given back the the families that gave them to us years ago. I try to work on them but I get so bored with the mess. Kids keep saying they are going to help because they want pictures, dear husband says to keep them because we might want to look at them. We have a collection of 56 years of married life and 75 years of family. They need to be organized and marked as some day we will be gone and people will have no idea who the people are in the pictures. Does this make sense?? Some times I NEED HELP!!

It is a good day here. I did go out and look at my garden. It is coming up but we have had rain and it is muddy so I can not do much with it. The sun is shining today but still chilly. The wheat is growing and looks really good. Hoping for a good crop. DH has cancer and is taking chemo. It is really frustrating to him to not feel like doing what he has always done.

You did not expect a book did you. Thanks for listening.

Hi everyone! I'm sorry that I have been slacking so much lately. And I've been slacking in every aspect of my life. I've gained weight, haven't been exercising much and in general feel like a slug.

So, it's time to kick myself in the butt, slap myself silly and get it in gear. Marlene, you are an inspiration. I'm 55 and you can run circles around me. It's time for a change! Hope everyone has a good weekend! And for heaven's sake, please let us have some nice weather at least for next weekend! We are sick of the rain/snow!!!

HEALTHY REFLECTIONS
The present is what slips by us while we're pondering the past and worrying about the future.- Ziggy, cartoon foible

How do you keep everything in perspective?

Is there anything that Ziggy doesn't know? In the cartooning universe, he's often placed in hopeless situations, pitted against a world that doesn't make sense. He's an agreeable punch line for the quirks of human nature. Yet he's able to brush off his mishaps and focus on the opportunities that today brings. He can also look to the future with hope, knowing full well that more struggles may lie ahead. Most of all, he can look at himself and have a good chuckle. Do you make yourself anxious about things that might happen or stew over mistakes you've made? Don't let a preoccupation with tomorrow or yesterday rob your ability to face that crazy world with a smile. For Ziggy, today is today. It's not a good day; it's not a bad day. It's a day. And he knows that it's important to give that day the value it deserves.

Nonsense. Age is just a number. You know what they say about mind over matter -- If you don't mind, it don't matter.

I am starting this new chat topic that will not be changed each month. Not sure where everyone has gone and I am really concerned about Patty. She has never gone this long without checking in.

Come on and let's discuss our sewing projects and live in general.
