Hello! You may not have heard - universal precautions best defense against CoVid19. Also CDC admits flu shots at best a 58% match overall. I just found out today. I'm trying to spread the word. Wash ur hands please.

Hello!

I've been busy over the weekend trying to piece together a quilt I am doing as a pattern tester. I think it will turn out really cute and I managed to get through a huge pile of scraps that I've accumulated. Will definitely post a picture when (IF?) I get it finished.

Beginning another year of sewing. Have some projects to finish from 'last year' and a few new ones to start. Hope you are planning to sew and craft for another year. Share your projects, please!

Getting ready for another craft show. One of the twins will be helping. They still have a few things to sell and helped make some bracelets. I have my dining room table covered with crafting. Hoping to get my sewing area in order so i can move my sewing machine.

What are you working on?

Hello, Susan! Since I didn't have to pay to set up at this one, it was OK. My twin grand daughters each sold a small painting. They were thrilled!!! I sold a sewing craft --a Steeler shelf sitter-- a stretchy bracelet, and some GF pumpkin bread.

Looked at your projects and the quilt is absolutely lovely!!! If you do another one, you should sell it, eh?

Keep Sewing! Keep Sparking!

Hi!

Is anybody making anything these days? I spent the past few days trying in vain to organize my sewing room. Ha. I kept discovering new things like forgotten projects, new patterns, etc. Somehow through it all I did not find the accessories for my older Singer machine which is what I really wanted to find. I know I haven't thrown them out but........

A few weeks ago, I actually was near a fabric store that still sold patterns for clothes. I actually bought some fabric and a simple top pattern. I haven't sewn clothes in years (20+) and I hope I can still remember how. It seemed like once I got hooked on quilting and sewing things like bags I never looked back.

So glad you stopped by. I still have hemming to do. I need to try to work on sewing and crafts at least two hours a day. With cleaning, washing clothes, cooking, EATING, and such there just doesn't seem to be enough time. So, if I stick to even 2 hours a day, I should get stuff done. Have to clean my sink, do laundry, scrub my kitchen floor and help DH put an anode rod in the hot water tank today. Oh, and fix lunch soon! Have a great day!

Just thought I needed to stop by the team, say "heyas" (or heyo). I actually had someone come by me in the breezeway of our apartment and wish me peace, love, and joy. I told the younger man to have a groovy day.

hahaha

I was surprised to find a niece here in Texas wearing an orange-sized peace symbol on a moderate long chain over her blouse. For everything there is a season, I guess it is true.

Gralan, I have been hemming stuff. Being short is making me extra work!

Christie, I have used a heavy cotton, but I have also used light weight cotton but reinforced the apron in front with pockets. I can't remember the fabric I used for a grilling apron for my son, but it seemed to be like a heavy cotton. My daughter gave me the gift of an apron one time that was made from a pre-printed fabric panel that was heavier than some cotton, but washes up nice. Also, some folks use lightweight fabric and make it a reversible apron with a different design on the other side. Anyway, hope you find what works for you! Blessings!

I'm still too busy mending to start a project from scrap/pattern.

Hello everyone,

I am waiting patiently for the school year to end so that I can get back to sewing~ As a novice, I want to actually finish two garments this summer. I start to pick up the tricks and then stop sewing and then start all over again. I have the patterns and the fabric, I just need the time.

While I am waiting, I would like some guidance with a good, heavy weight/durable fabric for an apron. I wear them all of time. I need them to be a good cotton and can't tell what to order online.

Hello, Mary! Yes, I have had a hand in making two things for men that seem to be OK crafts. One is a pocket pouch to put on the arm of the recliner. The other is a bed pocket. These seem to help remove clutter from side tables and if the remote is placed in a pocket, it is easier to find!

We seem to lose ours quite often. The pocket I made for hubby is now in use on the couch arm where I am usually perched. If I think of anything else, I will post.

BTW, what is your new job? Just curious.

Thanks for stopping by my page Barb. I'm glad you like the pics for the bonus spins. I don't have any crafty projects in the works at the moment. But do need to start thinking about making Christmas gifts. I won't have as much time to do so now that I started working.

Any ideas on gifts for men? It's harder to come up with things for the guys than it is for the girls.
Got to run. Have a great day everyone.

Picking out cat hair? Can't believe I missed that one! LOL I am reading a book (for quite some time now, I might add) called Miracles happen when People Pray. It gives wonderful prayer answers that normal every day people have received. Don't need to be a big name evangelist, Just Pray!!!

Our porch is done, but I am not satisfied with one corner of it yet. Must do some cleaning and some moving around. Probably will finish that next week.

Well, camper is packed. We are almost ready to take off but a man is here working on our rutted driveway and soggy wet lawn. Don't know how long that will take. I have run a mop over my kitchen quickly and promise to do better next week. Oh, dear, i think I now have the next week blues. emoticon

Have a great weekend, All! emoticon

I've been reading a book that is providing some interesting insights for me as I contemplate the life, the world, my country, politics, and more...

I enjoyed "Weapons of Math Destruction", but had to stop 3/4's of the way through for a while. It explained a lot regarding the Great Recession of 2008. We lost our home that year, we went homeless basically for 6 years, finally got on Housing near medical facilities for my wife and me. It angers me that there has been no corrective action taken to prevent another collapse in the near future. Not by the Government, by Corporations, predatory lending practices, extending credit options to those of us who live near or under the poverty level.

It makes doing practical sewing a means of mental and physical industry. Maybe someone should write a book on "Zen and the Art of Sewing Machine Maintenance". hahaha Come on, I know someone out there knows the book I'm spoofing. I'm reminded of Hugh Prather's book "Notes to Myself" when he spoke of the goal to be able to be at peace while calmly laying on his area rug picking out cat hair.

Peace to you all, please.

Thank you so much for the tutorial. I know I can go to Ask, Duck-Duck-Go, Google, YouTube, &c., for such things but I was looking for the personal touch within the group first.

I don't have a hemming foot yet, and it sounds like maybe I don't need to explore that right now. I don't have the funds for that at the moment either. And I kind of like stitching by hand, I started sewing carpet seams in the early 1970s working with my father. Nostalgia is a great thing.

Depending on the length I need to hem, I usually use a half inch stitching around the bottom and roll it up for the final stitching. Jeans are a problem because of the thickness of the double seams. I use a large needle in my machine, but I hand stitch where the thick seams are. If you have a hemming foot for your machine, it can be used for thinner material. I tried it before, but usually like the other way better. Hope this info helps. Don't forget you can check out stuff on You Tube, too. Happy stitching!!! emoticon emoticon

I finally got to put some buttons on DH's shirts this week. Lots more sewing to do, but have some celebrations to prepare for. Twins birthday was yesterday. Family celebration Friday. I am taking baked beans and I offered to make a cake if they need one. I really want to make some ear rings to match something they already have. Hop to fit that in. Brother is turning 70 and family is getting together for him, too, this weekend. Hope you all find time to do the crafting you love!

Only made half of my table money back at craft show today. I had determined in my heart that if I didn't at least get my table money back I would not do this spring show again. I didn't do it last year because 2017 was not good there. Anyway, I tried again. There seemed to be a nice steady flow of people, but not a lot of buying being done. Oh, well, it was a day out and I got to spend time with my eldest grand daughter. Maybe the next one will be better.

Now I know I must look up those books I downloaded. One of them was considered at one time to be akin to a Bible of Tatting -- a whole course from beginners to professionals.

No, I've never tatted but I certainly admire tatting projects.

I discovered my mom is now helping with the Alter Guild of the church they've started attending. That got me thinking about the tatting instruction books I've collected. Have you Tatted?

As a member of the Church of Nigeria, I'm looking at making cloth sanitaries for church folks there... I can pass them along through the denomination. I've got so many T-shirts I've gathered, that I'm going to sew some diapers and onesies for infants of needy mother-parents in San Antonio, and needy families in my neighborhood here in Balcones Heights (a city surrounded by SA). I could use some pointers by anyone here regarding these projects, the Singer Simple machine, tricks and tips. And I'll be coming by more often as a part of my push to be more than a sad looking lump o a log on the byway of Life.

I am related to a person troubled by incontinence at night, and thought I'd try making some adult diapers for her. Any thoughts, suggestions, smart remarks?

Hey, see you all later. I'm not being flippant or irresponsible when I respond "Sew what?" to folks, depending on the context anyway. hahaha

Have needle, will travel.

Actually I do carry a needle and safety pin in the lid of a pocket-sized dental-floss container. I discovered while in the US Military that it was handy to have a stout floss to do emergency repairs. Permanent marker hides the telltale white.

Mary, I have four teenage grand daughters. My sewing for them was usually for Easter, but their tastes have changed so much!!! However, they still like grandma's dolls and I have made them throw pillows for their beds. This year, they may all get some jewelry I have made. Because their tastes are so different, though, it will probably not be the same thing. My grand son is eleven and I did look into making him some camo gloves. However, his Mom told me he wants some "Raiders" curtains for his bedroom, so I will check into that for him. He has been thrilled in the past with the Raider things I have made for him. Right now, though, I need to make some more things for a craft show I want to do in November.

I'm looking for easy things to make for Christmas presents. I've got 4 adult males, 5 adult females, 1 teenage female, and 4 little guys (ages 4-8).
Yesterday I checked out the dragon tears pattern for finger-less gloves. They look adorable.
Will see if I can get them worked up quickly.

I found a T-shirt with a sewing machine and "This is my happy place" on it. So fun. Today starts the season of sewing costumes for fall programs. Occasionally, I alter dresses for people. I need to learn more on what my machine does as I'm using it to its capacity! And I've been recruited to help a 4-H group make some children's bibs. What sewing are others doing?

Barb, what kind of dolls are you making?

I can't wait to start sewing again. Since I don't want to do a lot of baking, trying to lose weight, emoticon , sewing is going to be my creative outlet for awhile. But got to get that room straighten up a bit more.

Enjoy your day.

As I find unfinished projects, while setting up my sewing room, I am putting putting them all in one spot so that I can work on finishing them when I start working on projects again.

I have been so negligent with my fabric and sewing. I FINALLY sanded and stained a kitchen table for my new machine and cleaned out a desk with lots of drawers for my serger. I got 2 huge boxes of ignored projects and fabric cleaned out and I can see the floor of my sewing room.... I am thrilled and do something sewing related daily. Now I'm ready to help with costumes for our big Christmas program...... I walk in the room and I'm at peace.... So thankful!

I just finished helping with costumes for Hairspray put on by a local group. We made transition costumes.... I'll try to post a video sometime.

We've been very busy this summer. With buying a house and moving. Just have a few boxes left in storage. But still need to find a home for everything in the house. I was able to get hubby to finally have a check up. He is in pretty good shape. Only problem he has is tremors and its hereditary. Thankfully it's not Parkinson's.

I finally got a cat. Haven't had one in a long time. Previous place didn't allow cats. His name is Caesar and he's a 12 lb, 3 yr old black cat. And very lovable.

Hope everyone enjoys their day.

I'm back in a limited way that will best help me with my healthy lifestyle. I have to do ultimately what's best for my own health.

I have a lot of things going on in my life right now and they will be ongoing for quite some time to come.

I will do my best to be as active as I can, but may not post as much as I use to.

That's my news and update for now.

Hope the craft show was good Barb!

finally I'm about to get to sewing my bowl covers then moving things out of my sewing room into our garage.

In a weeks time my son and daughter move back home our son into his old room to save money to be able to buy his first home.

My niece who has been staying here for the last month will move out of our sons old room that she has been staying in and share the sewing room with our daughter.

Sarah our daughter and Rebeckah our niece are are moving out together into a place to rent close to both their jobs but can't move into the rental property for 2 weeks so while they need somewhere to stay for 2 weeks we'll have them here.

The only spare room as such would be my sewing / ironing room so that stuff will have to be moved temporarily to our garage which will be a storage space for 2 weeks.

My daughter hopes to save for a house also while living out of home as she wants her privacy and is looking forward to sharing a place with her cousin.

I have to pick her up from the airport tonight and she has gone down to Melbourne for the weekend to Lilydayle to visit her boyfriend and stay with him and his family.

Enjoy your Sunday all.

Grocery shopping is on my agenda for today.

I usually go to a number of places to grocery shop. I start off at Aldi then go to coles, then my local health food store, then the fish market to get fresh fish, then our butcher to get pastured eggs and chicken.

Hope everyone has a fabulous Friday.

Hope you managed to get rid of those dreaded carpenter ants once and for all Barb!

Today my cleaner is here. I have one one a fortnight she does my bathrooms and vacuums and washes the floors. it only costs me $7.00 a fortnight under a government scheme that I am eligible for due to my hip osteoarthritis.

Going with my husband this afternoon to get a lump that is in his neck checked out with the oncology department of a huge hospital here under referral from our doctor. He has had scan and biopsy's done and nothing seems to have shown anything with the enlarged lymph node as being wrong. because it is still there our doctor wants it investigated further with a possible surgical removal and testing of the whole lump to be sure it's not cancerous.

He does not like the idea of surgery as we prefer to do natural things in our family.

The lump though seems to be going down quite a bit in part thanks to his positive thoughts, change of work hours and attitude and also due to the fact of some strong homeopathic medicine and strong herbal drops that his brother who is a naturapath sent us down made up in his clinic.

Busy day happening so I best get to it.

Keep smiling,

Paula emoticon

Hello! We have a nephew who lives in Ohio who shares a house with his sister. She is getting married in April and they will have a home of their own. Down the road, we have another nephew who lives with his sister. Seems some of our nieces and nephews are marrying later in life. The one from Ohio is 30. Maybe this is a good thing, life being what it has been lately.

Didn't do a lot today except chase some carpenter ants around. I put out some poison, but I think it is too old to do anything. We were invaded a few years back with the same kind of ants and had to replace some flooring they bored into and ruined. They found the nest, with the queen ant in it, and destroyed it. Here we go again!
Hoping to get to some sewing tomorrow. I have two 'prairie dolls' ordered and just talked to the lady today that ordered them. I messed up the first cutting of the dress and have to do it again. Oh, well, it happens.

The luncheon went well at church yesterday. Lots of different kinds of soup to choose from. DH took his chili and I made some corn bread and took leftover cake from the coffee klatsch. Then last night we went to DD's church to hear the "King Family." what a talented musical group!!! Wow!

Lots to do this week. Hope to at least get some of it done! emoticon emoticon

Today I have lots of have to go pick up a desk for our son who is moving back home to save money for a house deposit. Finally we have been able to make him see sense. We've been telling him and his sister for the last few years and giving them budgeting advice finally now I think as he's growing up 23 yrs old he's starting to listen. YAY!

Also have some ironing to do, garden to water and things to tidy up and organise, washing to hang out and more before I have to get dinner ready later today.

Glad the Coffee Kiatsch went well Barb!

Best get finished on spark people so I can get started with my day. Have a fantastic day all. emoticon

Today we had our family coffee klatsch. I was hosting. My five brothers and three of the wives came. The other two were working. It was my eldest brother's birthday. He turned 70 today. I made a GF confetti jello cake -- lime jello in honor of St. Pat's and soon to come spring. Two of the wives thought it was refreshing. Two of my brothers didn't eat any, but had coffee. We had some great fellowship telling about the great experiences my brother has had. It's a blessing he is still with us!

Happy St, Patrick's Day to all! emoticon emoticon emoticon

I have a rather busy day planned. Going to be taking some things that I am de-cluttering and dropping them off at the OP Shop. (St. Vinnies to be exact.)

Also have my grocery shopping to do some dusting and Will have to get my husband to cut my hair for me with our clippers. It's great that he can do it and we save money by not needing a hair dresser.

Tonight we are having dinner at my dad's and it's great we can go there for dinner now knowing everything we eat is lectin free.

Hope everyone has a happy and successful weekend.

For me I need to start keeping life more simple. I tend to set myself to many things / jobs / tasks or whatever you like to call them to do in any given day.

I need to streamline and make it more simple working on that one at the moment.

have a great day all,

Thanks so much Barb for you kind words.

My husbands Brother he's a naturopath sent down from Cairns some homeopathic and other practitioner supplements and Ian has started taking them.

It seems our Plant Paradox diet and Ian's slight change in work hours + the supplements is working well as the doctor said yesterday when she checked his neck your lymph node seems to have gone down a bit. So that's great news. Him and I have never felt better than we have since starting "the Plant Paradox" eating plan. We are very, very strict with it and I know it's making a huge difference to us plus my dad and his wife who are also on it.

I would encourage anyone to give it a proper strict go for 6 weeks and see how they feel on it. We've been now about 3 weeks or so. I do feel doing phase one for the 3 days before hand is very important also.

I strongly encourage anyone with health issues to give the "Plant Paradox" with Dr. Grundy a go. I bet you;d be amazed in just 6 weeks how much better you will feel.

I've had a busy day all day. With my Grocery shopping I now tend to do that on a Saturday and I go with Ian. We go to our local health food store, then to Aldi, then to Coles then it's a half hour drive to our butcher for Pastured Chicken and Pastured eggs and if we ever want sausages which is hardly ever.

My daughter came over and stayed for dinner which was homemade battered whiting and salad.

All is well but busy in my part of the world at the moment.

I need to get back into my sewing room and finish my bowl covers have still about 9 or so more to do. Then want to keep going on finishing a table runner I started quilting.

Take care and keep smiling,

Paula emoticon

Paula, I have had great results with homeopathy and herbal supplements. I took a combo for my heart when I was told it was weak. It worked really well. I do H for colds, and flu. I have found that a combo of silver and chlorophyll work great at the first sign of a sore throat. Hope your DH is directed to the right path for him.

My DH had a cyst (small) removed from his neck a few years back. It was not a lymph node, though. It was not a problem. He is taking supplements now to strengthen muscles in his groin area to avoid surgery for a hernia. It seems to be working.

So glad you are here with us at Sewing Buddies. Hope you get to share some projects on your blog. page. Thanks for stopping by my Spark Page and leaving comments. So nice when fellow team mates take an interest.

Have a good night!!!

Today I will be tidying and de-cluttering and re-organising my kitchen cupboards well this morning anyhow.

In the afternoon my husband and I are headed off to his doctors appointment when he comes home from work.

He has his appointment to go to the hospital in two weeks to start the process of getting ready to have his lymph node in his neck the enlarged one fully removed under surgery then tested to see if it is cancerous or lymphoma. The biopsy came back all clear and our doctor said that was not good enough as the lump in his neck has not gone down. but then it has not changed either or grown or anything.

His brother (the naturopath one) and myself both say we would not be having the surgery as we fix things naturally when and where possible.

My husband said he's going to give our new eating plan (diet if you like) a good try till the scheduled surgery date which we don't know as yet when that will be and if the lump goes down he won't go ahead with the surgery.

Even though his brother and I wouldn't have the surgery we have both agreed we will support him though with whatever he chooses as it has to be up to him and his choice.

His brother has also sent us down some drops of potent stuff for Ian to take at night with dinner plus some homeopathic stuff all to help repair the lymph part he thinks Ian will find the lymph node will hopefully go down with these two supplements if you like for want of a better name.

Oh well now it's just a wait and see game and more research to be done on my part.

Hope everyone has a happy and successful Friday whatever your plans are.

Keep Smiling emoticon
