Hey I'm currently deployed to Afghanistan. It sucks. I miss my hubby, family and friends probably more than they can imagine. I know they miss me but being deployed is no fun. I wish everyone that has loved ones coming over to this part of the world the best of luck and strength! Please let me know if you have any questions. God bless and God speed.

SGTJCOPADO and all other service members. Thanks for all you do to keep us safe. Your statement SGTJCOPADO means a lot to me as a spouse. it made my day. I'm so proud to be an American and to be a part of this fine group of dedicated people.

I commend everyone on their goals to stay fit during a deployment. I was a Air Force wife for 7 years now my dear hubby crossed into the green and we're on year 1 of the Army. We've gone trough a fair share of deployments and their not easy but with the right support i have found that one can make it trough the toughest of days and come out stronger and wiser. You will be amazed as you look back how much you grow from all of these experiences.

It's funny how I used to complain about the petty my DH would do, like not putting the socks in the hamper, but after so many deployments all I look forward to is those darn stinky socks in the middle of the floor. LOL emoticon .

One way I have found to stay sane is not to watch the news. It's depressing and just adds more stress. Instead I got to my FRG, Church,go out with friends, find things to do with the kids and just recently started school again. I also picked up new hobbies with every deployment. My DH laughs and asks what's next, se one deployment was scrap booking, next one was gardening and them came the 55 Gal fresh water tank with live plants and so forth. LOL

So the key is stay busy, watch what you see and hear on TV and from friends and family. Build a good support system and by al means when you need to cry, scream or vent just do it. You're human.

My husband is shipping his first tote today. We're still not sure where he's going. It was originally Iraq, but now its not 100%. He leaves for Ft. Sill in October and Iraq (or wherever) in November:( My girls are 2 and 4 and are not quite understanding what's going on.

Having just come back from one myself, I wish all the best to those whose loved ones are away! I know how hard it is to be away from those we love so much. Just know that they are loving and missing you just as much and it is that love and your support that gives them strength.

My husband is currently deployed to Iraq. Today we are on day 48 of him not being here. For some reason today and yesterday I have been super emotional about the deployment. Random crying, etc. I feel bad for my kids, they are 2 and 3 and they really don't understand and it breaks my heart when they hurt from not seeing daddy. My mom and I made them a "daddy" book today which was a picture album with all pictures of daddy in them. I think they really enjoyed them. My son fell asleep clutching his in his hand.

Run Long, Run Hard, Love the Pavement.

Remember to accept yourself as being human, some days you will be ready to take the world by storm, others not so much. Just make the most of each day, and accept and forgive yourself if you fall a little short every once and awhile.

Everything happens for a reason!

It really works!

2/20/09 - Working on my next & maybe last 10 lbs.

4/17/09 - Five more pounds to go!

6/19/09 - I did it!
30 lbs total lost!

4th deployment in late July till December. 2nd deployment that we've been through together. The first was for 15 months.

This time will be easier because he's literally going to be gone just one semester so that's particularly awesome for me since I know the time will just fly by.

My husb is being deployed in a few months, it will be my 1st but his 2nd all together. I've already started my "get fit" journey but I totally wanna be completely in shape when he gets back, or even if there is some R&R time in between it would be awesome to be close to my goal at that time.

My husband just left last week to go to the "sandbox". This is his third deployment but the first one since we've been together and married. I'm from a military family and have gone through deployments before with my dad and brother but this one has been harder. I plan on keeping myself busy so the time will fly by.

How long will he be gone for? What branch of the military?

One of the biggest things I've learned is that as rough and tough as our guys say they are (and of course they are all strong!), they need the people back home to believe in them 100%. The more we stress and worry and fret, the more they do, too. Focus on care packages while he's gone; it's a ton of fun for you, and they LOVE getting them. By the time you've sent the first one, and he's received it, I can promise you at least 2-3 weeks will have passed by already. That doesn't seem like a lot at first, but all of a sudden you're sending the 10 package, and it's already been 3 months (or however long). He'll get through it, and so will you!

My son is currently deployed to Iraq...there is talk of pulling them and sending them to Afghanistan to finish up their tour. It makes me nervous having him in Iraq as they lessen the troop numbers, so I would almost welcome Afghanistan at this point (never thought I would say THAT!!) He has 8 more months to go...*sigh*

I know how you are feeling! My husband was deployed last April! He was not great with communication nor did the Marines allow a lot of time for him to call/email. Just hang in there! I wish I could say it get easier, but its not easy in the least bit! My husband still has trouble communicating with me and he is home! LOL!

Please, everyone, remember OPSEC. Don't be too specific regarding dates, timeframes and locations.

Deployments are never easy. Been there, done that and looking at another one. Not to mention sending my new son-in-law off on one fairly soon.

Hopeing all of your loved ones return home soon to the new more slender and healthy person you have become.

VCABRAL2-I also am excited about getting slimmed down and my husband coming back to a better me! Very fun! It's also something that keeps me busy and helps me with my stress-nothing like some Tae Bo to burn away some stress. But, not only do I count down the days until my hubby comes home, but I count down how many pounds I've lost since he's been gone and that's really motivating!

We're almost 10 months into a 15 month deployment-only 5 more left! I had a baby 2 weeks before he deployed and am working on losing a bit of weight. I want to have the rest of the weight lost and be toned and firmed when he comes back in June! I'm working super hard for this!

Way to go JAMIESAN934, every little bit helps, did you know for every pound you take off, you remove 4 pounds of pressure on your knees. Amazing but like I said every little bit helps. Good Luck, keep up the good work and you'll be a changed women for his homecoming!

Less than a month left for us to be apart! It's always so hard even though we are used to it! This one has been particularly hard for me! When he left, I immediately started Tom Venuto's Program called Carb Cycling and I did really well for about 2 weeks and he says you can have a cheat meal once in a while and it's good for you, so I let myself have one and it turned into 2 months of emotional mess! I was disappointed in myself and I was missing my husband so much = looking for comfort in food I guess. But I've been doing Jillian Michael's Making The Cut now for a week and I'm really proud of myself and really motivated to look better than when he left!

Starting the fourth deployment of my hubby. he will only be gone 4 months which is good. this is the first time that we have had to go through a deployment with a child, our son is 7 months old and while having a baby here to keep me occupied is good for me I know that it just makes it that much harder for my husband to be gone.

Hello, my name is Radhia. My husband is deployed to Iraq, and I've always managed to lose weight while he's gone (this is his 4th deployment). So...here I am trying to reach my target weight by the time he comes home in February of 2009 emoticon .

Hello, my name is Katrina. My husband just deployed 7-27-08. During his time away, I want to transform myself back to what I used to look like before the kids came. I miss my husband dearly and I am thinking if I concentrate on losing weight the focus I have on my husband not being here wont be as painful. emoticon

Hello. My name is Tammy. My SO just left this past weekend. He's been home for almost 18 months, so it was time. This, however, is my FIRST deployment. I'm having a little bit of a hard time right now, but I'm hoping in the next few weeks it will get easier. I joined Sparkpeople to help me lose the weight I need to lose while he is gone so I can WOW myself (and him)! I've got a total of 43lbs to lose, but I will be happy to lose 20 before he gets back. Any word of encouragement about your loved one being gone would be most helpful!

Thanks,
T

hey everyone, my husband is just about to finish up his most recent deployment and will be returning on the 23rd! (as of right now anyway, i know better than to bet on it) i have been working to lose weight and start a healthier lifestyle while he's been away and will work to continue it when he returns. i've lost 12 lbs so far and am on my way to my goal!

DANIELLEKOEHN, it sounds like you are on your way, I don't even like the word diet, I just eat healthy and every once and a while if I want to indulge, I do, no big deal, I just don't lose as much, but I am losing, slowly, but losing just the same and never felt better.
