I always mix baking soda with warm water and comb it through your hair soon after swimming. This helps to strip the pool chemicals from the hair --- also any buildups that you might have from products. you will want to make sure your hair is completely watered down before applying.

If you would like to get a swim cap ... there is a site online that has extra large caps for those with lots of hair .... might be worth investing in one to ensure minimal amount of pool water on your hair.

Thanks everyone for the words of wisdom..... I am reluctant to cut my hair anymore, I know its too long but I just cut 4" off....

so I ordered 2 types of shampoo, a Paul Mitchell for swimmers shampoo and another cheaper, Swim Fan or something shampoo, they'll be coming in the mail next week.

I put my hair up and hold it is place with a thick clip, and it gets wet on the neck side, but not alot, however I would like to be able to submerge! So hoping these products for after care work. do not want scarecrow hair.

I shower at the pool and use the Loreal no sulfite shampoo (preserves the color). That seems to be doing the trick for me.

Please realize that if you put stuff on your uncovered hair before entering the water, you will be contributing to the gunk that can mess up the pool chemistry and/or contribute to the "bathtub ring" around the edge of the pool and on the lane lines. I do know several people who have had good results from wetting the hair, putting conditioner on, and then covering it with a swim cap or shower cap. If you have long hair, you can do a lot just by wetting it with tap water and pinning it up. The hair absorbs less chemical-y pool water that way. There are also special anti-chlorine shampoos and conditioners for after class or swim.

Hmmm, it is just my ends that get wet in water aerobics so not really noticed a problem.

Two products I have used--
Aveeda has a spray that you use before you swim that protects your hair. It comes in a small orange spray bottle. Kiehl's has a shampoo especially for swimmers that works as well.
I hate wearing swim caps so I am willing to spend a few extra dollars to protect my hair!
