Glad you are better but should you be getting in a public pool with a rash or sores?

Thanks for the ideas, I did go to the pool today and immediately got out a showered at the gym and used chlorine removing shampoo as a body wash. The rash is here but not as awful, I am putting on the steroid cream from the doctor now, it got so bad I had sores and scabs, that is why I missed 2 days of exercise.
I am hoping my new shower after pool will help the cream is already helping too ~~~

The stuff recommended to us was made not to interfere with the pool---made for that purpose---I never tried it but the man who did said it worked well for him

It's been my experience that anything put on skin before you get in the water is ineffective because it just gets removed PLUS it then adds gunk to the pool that contributes to clogging the filters and machinery. That "bathtub ring" that you may see on the pool wall or on floats is compounded of skin oils, lotions, waxes, and other stuff people have put on their skin and hair. Ewwww. Hence the need for everyone to shower before entering.

Sometimes the problem may be chemical imbalance in the water rather than too much. Educate yourself about pool chemistry and ask the aquatic director about ph and chlorine levels.

The best way to treat your skin is to rinse thoroughly AFTER getting out. Help your skin keep its moisture by taking lukewarm showers and staying out of the hot tub. Use soap/shower gel sparingly if at all and be lavish with moisturizers afterwards. Use goop with "cream" or "butter" in the name and a minimum of fragrance or other additives; "lotion" often has alcohol (a drying agent) in it.

JILLYMAUI, I get an itchy rash from time to time, also. Out of desperation, I tried some athlete's foot over the counter cream (didn't have anything else handy), and that seemed to clear it up last time.

There is a gel to put on if you have sensitivity to the chlorine in pools---someone told us about it but I don't remember the name---think you can get it online at sights that sell equipment for water aerobics/swimming pools. You might also check at a local pool place to see if they sell something. A good thing to do is to immediately rinse off once you get out of the pool.

Hi,
I started this topic because I searched for info on it and came up blank.

I am wondering if other get a bad itchy rash from chlorine in the water at their pool? Our pool must have some intense chemicals because this rash started and now I have to use steroid cream, which has complications, and it is still not all gone.

So if you do get rashes what do you do to treat it please?? Thanks much, Jill
