I think they would notice when you modify the workout---LOL---but maybe they will ask for some suggestions---good instructors should always be looking for ways to improve. But wait til asked is always a good idea.
Great workout last night ---only 2 of us but our instructor was back with a trainee so there were 4 of us in the pool---and we stayed in the deep end the whole time---man, my legs knew it last night---and definitely got some good core moves in, too.
Kerry, sounds like you are progressing to be able to up the repetitions---keep it up so you can get back in the pool soon.

I'm thinking that I wouldn't want others to know that either. The instructors would probably be thinking about what you were thinking than just doing her normal class unless she often has other instructors attending.

I just noticed my keyboard is missing a key. Hope I can find it somewhere around here but luckily it's not one I use often.

Physical therapy has moved forward a bit-30 reps of each exercise and more standing. Walked side to side without holding anything. He said I was doing well and he'll be back either Friday or Saturday. He's actually hoping to get the 4th off but if a new patient comes out of the hospital he will have to work.

Yay for stress reliever, LECATES. Beat up that pool! Woohoo!

Tonight I'm going to attend the water workout class at the Y where I'm swimming for the summer. I've observed it a couple of times while swimming laps and I tried it Monday.

As I suspected, the class isn't a great fit for me, but at least I can stay in the pool and move my body for a half hour more. (The other lap lanes become unavailable due to swim teams and lessons then.) Once I learn the class routines I can modify it for myself.

I'm trying to "just go with it" although as an instructor there are a lot of things about it that I'd do very differently. I wasn't going to mention that I'm also an instructor, but one of my own students also joined the class and told everyone before I had a chance to ask her not to. (I didn't want to put these instructors on the defensive or call special attention to myself.) Oh well, it is just for the summer.

I like to think of myself as a good advertisement for building muscles in the water. I'm not at an ideal weight yet, but I am muscular now. People who see me cannot imagine that I once weighed so much more. Hooray for pool muscles!

Exercise is great for stress! Hope the pain goes away soon and he starts being able to move easier.

The water definitely helps with mobility-I've noticed it a lot through the years. I know there are still people out there who don't believe it or even don't believe you can build muscles in the pool but they are wrong!

I'm glad to hear that your husband's surgery went well. How awesome that you got to go blow off some steam in the pool afterwards to relieve that stress! emoticon

I was talking to a lady that has been doing the open swim at my pool last night---she said just doing what she is doing has improved her mobility greatly, able to bend over and pick stuff up and just overall being able to do things and feeling better. I said that often people don't realize how much you do exercise in a pool until they actually try it themselves. And I showed her some of the stretches to do before she gets out and she was very appreciative of that.
Kerry, hope you can get back in the water soon!
Dh's surgery went okay yesterday---found the tear was much larger than they thought, some floating cartilege that he removed, and a large bone spur had formed behind his knee cap that was acting like a door stop on bending his knee so he shaved that off. The doctor said that would make the pain last longer than usual as shaving bone makes one feel like a really bad toothache. But he hopes now my dh will be able to get better flexability in the knee. But he said my dh's knee is bad and next step is replacement---no real surprise on that news.
After the day I had, I was really glad to go to water aerobics ----that really helped with the stress of the day and then we went out afterwards and had such a lovely chat---my son came over and stayed with dh so I could go out afterwards and not worry about him---so I had a nice ending to a very long day!

Hopefully you'll be back in the pool soon, Kerry. It will feel so good and be good for you, too. My doctor and physical therapists were quite amazed by my fast progress (after surgery on a shattered wrist) last year. I credit the pool and great PT with my healing.

But at least you got out of the house---bet that felt good. When will you be able to go back to the pool?
One of my friends at water aerobics officially retires today from her job and she wants us to go out after class to celebrate with her---she will not be with us for July as she has a couple of trips planned. My dh has his knee surgery today so I have asked my son's gf to come stay with him while I go----she is an ER tech so she would know what to do better than I would anyhow. They are cleaning up the menincus and any scar tissue that might have built up since his injury. Just out patient and 2 small incisions but he will milk it---you all know how males are!

I got up this morning after the third trip to the bathroom and then when my husband came out of the bedroom I asked him to start the eggs boiling. I managed to get the devilled eggs done with very little mess-I had my daughter fill them after I did all the other work. I then got dressed (workout shorts and t-shirt) and daughter drove me to church-couldn't believe how hot it was.. I grabbed an office chair since I need the arms to help me up without bending past that 90 degrees. I got through about half the service before I got up and headed over to the hall. Someone grabbed that office chair and brought it in for me and then someone else fixed me a plate of food. I hadn't had much before the service ended and everyone else came in for lunch. That was my first foray out of the house since surgery and man was I exhausted!!

Our temps will be going back up and I will turn the ac back on sometime today---but right now it is delightful.
In the summer I find that I have to make my icing very dry to hold up in the humidity---and I tell people the decorations have to be very simple so it will hold up to the heat and humidity. But I prefer not to do big cakes in the summer anyhow---rather them go to someone else----but I don't do that much baking for others nowadays.

That's amazing, KS. You would think they could figure things out a bit better after all this time. They know it exists so they should be finding ways to properly diagnose it, etc. I'm with you praying that your GS does not have to deal with something like that.

I wouldn't be surviving without A/C these days. I sweat even with it on!! We are in the mid 90's every day with thunderstorms going through most afternoons or evenings. Often the thunder is all we get along with the high humidity. Thankfully that a/c has just now kicked on. I need to find a way to wrap my leg so I can get a shower though I may just try to get a good sponge bath and then wash my hair in the sink.

As for cake decorating-I did a lot of it when we lived in Nebraska but when we moved to Florida and I tried doing a fancy cake there was no way I could get the icing to hold up because of the heat and humidity so I just quit doing it. I probably could have changed the recipe a bit but didn't. The grocery store does a great job on cakes. LOL

So true---no matter how old they get.
At least weather temps are nice for the weekend---turned off the ac this morning and dh can just be upset---I don't care---it was cooler outside than inside when I had to go outside to clean the ac filter---I would have turned it off yesterday, too, but I had to bake a cake and needed to use the ac to cool off the kitchen and be able to decorate the cakes for today's ladies's meeting at the church. At least that will get me out of the house for a while.

Unfortunately there is no definitive test for Crohn's. It took the medical profession 40 years to find out that I had it! They don't know what causes Crohn's and therefore all treatments are experimental and until they know what causes it and how it develops, they are stumped on all fronts and they can't find a cure until they solve that mystery. I mentioned how long it took for my own diagnosis and the strange thing is I'd been going to a Gastroenterologist for 8 or 9 years and his specialty was Crohn's. He told me I had a Smoker's ulcer in my Duodenum. It is not common to have Crohn's there but I do. A surgeon who I'd been sent to to have scar tissue removed from the supposed ulcer sent me back to this specialist telling him I had Crohn's not an ulcer with scar tissue. Even when they do those awful scopes they can't tell always. The horrid stuff you have to drink to clean you out before having one is so strong it wipes away the surface of the Crohn's sores so it isn't obvious. It just looks irritated from the stuff. I've been told that in a lot of cases the only way they can tell the difference between Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis is when and if they open you up in surgery. I'm going to make darn sure no matter what that he isn't labelled a hypochondriac as I was as a child with all the stomach aches and headaches and such.

When I was diagnosed with the Crohn's I wept - out of relief. 3 days before the surgeon had misdiagnosed it as Pancreatic Cancer. He sent me home on a Fri. afternoon after telling me I had less than a month to live and to get my affairs in order and make arrangements for my daughter's future. A further test on the Mon. and he revised it to Crohn's. He was shocked I was pleased - Crohn's I could live with and be there to raise my daughter. I now had the most cleaned out house on the planet and the tidiest of affairs having met with my lawyer, banker and insurance people over the weekend and between appointments cleaning out every last scrap of unnecessary crap. (How quickly that builds up again, eh!). It was nice to tell my family they had been wrong all these years and the pain was not in my head it was real and it was in my gut. Growing up and as a young woman, my self esteem was about nil from all the negative comments and mistrust of my issues. Unfortunately living with that for so long, most of my family still think of me that way - hurts but their narrow mindedness is their own issue. I've learned to stand up for myself and to be pro-active in getting help with my health issues. Sorry - got off topic here!!! Other worry with my DGS is his gallbladder. I've heard of gall stones but my daughter's gall bladder actually died and she had to have it removed a month and a half after her 16th birthday. Is there ever a time we don't worry about our kids and our grandkids? I doubt it. They will always be our "kids."

Is there a definitive test for Chrohn's? IF so, then your dd should mention that you have it and have him tested---maybe getting it diagnosed early would alleviate future symptoms. I know we had my middle son checked for rheumatoid arthristis when he has issues at young age--there is a test for that and we were very glad to hear that he would not have that---my grandfather and aunt had it really bad so I knew it could be possible.

Jilly... hope you figure the belt out so you can drive.

Kerry - glad you've got some company and help even if it's not as much as adults could give you. I'm wishing you a speedy recovery.

Kerry and Lecates - DGS went to school Wed. and hadn't had any fever for about 36 hrs. When we got home from picking him up after school, his Mom called to say our nurse had received the results of the swab she took of his throat on Mon. and it's NOT strep throat. DGS did a happy dance when he learned he didn't have to continue the meds. It's so hard to get a definitive answer or hold on what exactly is bothering him. He tells me "it only hurts a bit of a little" (his wording) "it hurts here" (but hand consistently moves from the liver to the appendix and side to half way across middle) "it hurts when I breathe through my mouth but not when I breathe through my nose." At the hospital he actually screamed "it hurts!" just before he brought up and said afterwards that it didn't hurt anymore and perked up quite a bit.

I think something is bothering either his tummy or bowel but also the throat and/or mouth is bothering him - the sores or tonsils? I have Crohn's and it often misses a generation it seems - I've been praying since he was born that he doesn't also have it - oh geez I hope not! The right side is usually the first place of stricture and pain. I have it from my tongue all the way thru to the end which is unusual. I know that when I have a stricture, the pain is unbearable and when and if you can bring the food back up, the relief is dramatic and fast. Crohn's is also accompanied by mouth ulcers and I get the same as well as in my throat and on down. I get nervous every time he gets those sores and/or pains in the gut anywhere. Right now my daughter seems to be playing a waiting game and watching him closely.

He also went to ball practice Wed night and hit the ball each turn up to bat - not too cheesy when only ever had 3 or 4 practices and never done before! At this stage they have every kid on the team a turn up to bat and when they are in the field while the other team bats, they take turns at different positions. There is no score kept either and foul balls often aren't called for.

The grandkids are a big help getting ice packs, drinks and other things as well as just having someone around.
I have a new bandage on today which is not waterproof so no shower til Tuesday afternoon after the staples are out.
Today is another hot one and a good pool day although the clouds should be rolling in soon. Hot Florida afternoon nearly always means thunderstorms.

Well, that makes sense as people do like to ask questions at those places. Hope the grandkids are not too much for you.
Water aerobics was nice last night---one person away for pretty much all of July---another leaves after July 1st for the month--and then another one goes away the end of July----might just be 2 of us for good part of the summer.
Dh has his knee surgery on Monday---so yesterday we had to go get blood work done, today we go to his regular doc for his okay, and we still don't know the time on that day til Friday. At least it is soon---I was worried we would have to wait a while.

It doesn't sound like he should be in school at all. Sounds like he has several different things going on there. Did anyone check out the pain in his side? That almost sounds like the appendix but I think it's hard to diagnose. Some of the things sound like what I had with mono-especially the mouth sores. Hope someone takes time to figure It all out. I know the poor kid is miserable.

My grandkids are here for a couple days. It's nice to have someone here with me. I'll have to figure out something simple for lunch though. mmmm....

My daughter is an assistant manager of a liquor store and wine is one of their big things so the employees have to do wine tastings, learn about the wine-where it came from, etc etc. So there are frequent classes to test and then be tested on the info so the owners know they can converse with customers and make sales.

Kerry, hope the nap did not disturb your sleep last night. What kind of job has a wine tasting meeting? That is strange.
Your grandson needs to be fever free for 24 hours before going back to school---and yes, no longer contagious after 24 hours on meds---but how do they know it is strep if they did not do a culture. Hope he is alright and that he does not overdo today.
Water aerobics tonight---legs ached so bad last night after cutting grass---but I did some backwards pulling so thinking that might have been the issue---or using the stepstool today to clean out cabinets---either one could have set me off. They do feel better this morning.

I managed to get in an hour doing aquafit exercises this am before I had to get home in time to babysit. My DGS hasn't been himself - over weekend and Mon. night fevers and complaints of pain in his side off and on. I had him Mon and today. I took him to our nurse practitioner yesterday meeting his mom there. He got really upset during the exam and hyperventilated and couldn't breath. A look down his throat and my daughter said the tonsils were so swollen there was little room between them and she had us take him up to Emerg. He also has a couple of what they (nurse and dr. at emerg) call welts but to me they look like little pimples or the Chicken Pox he had a couple of weeks ago. At the hospital, he vomited all over Triage - nurse was soooo impressed, lol. He's such a good natured kid it was awful to see how upset he was. Dr. he saw barely looked at him other than in the ears and a tongue depressor to see his throat. He prescribed an antibiotic saying it's common for kids his age to have Strep Throat. No concern over the "welts" or pains in his side, or on again off again fevers. Jeez! We were told that after 1 full day of antibiotics he is no longer contagious. I will admit he was eating and drinking today but has developed some mouth ulcers poor kid. He was a lot more animated too. Good thing because Mom is sending him back to school tomorrow. He wants to go. Tomorrow they get to see he Grade 6 kids graduate and there is only Wed, Thurs and a half day on Fri. I'm going over before 8 tomorrow to get him to the bus and picking him up after school. Dad is on a business trip to Jamaica (daughter is soooo jealous, lol) and Mom works early on Weds. She's going to the gym for the first time in a week after work so we'll feed him and if she's not back in time, take him to his ball game. Personally I think it's asking for trouble to go to school for the whole day and playing ball in the early evening after being sick but hey, I'm just the "Gamma."

Well, they both did a lot better yesterday but today I'm home alone with DH working and DD having a meeting for work (probably a morning wine tasting class). I hate that they do those and they are required then the employees have to drive back home or to work. Anyway, I was up too early-way to early-so I am going to just go back and lie down. It HAS been too easy for this kid to stay home but many times it has been very handy with my taking care of the grandkids, etc. She has had education issues from the time she was little-unable to read until about 8th grade-she couldn't transpose oral spelling to the written word. I think she has other issues-possibly depression and stuff. Trying to get her to keep seeing the doctor and working things out. I would really like her to have a REAL life one day.

Sounds like you need to have a talk with both of them---and remind dd of what she said---she can start practicing now---or move out---LOL Are you making it too easy for her?
Water aerobics tonight--hope my knee feels better or I will have to be careful.
Watching gd this morning---but just at her house for a few hours, then dh has doctor's appointment this afternoon---I don't think he will be released back to work.

Sounds like my house. I texted my daughter in her bedroom that I needed something for thee pain but all I hear is her rolling over. She probably turned her cell off so I can't wake her up. She is 33 and living at home forever I guess. That's what she told her high school teacher. Said she would be here to take care of us in our old age. I am pretty sure I don't want this kind of help!! I got up out of bed about 5:30, came out to the recliner, turned on a music channel and went back to sleep for a couple hours. My husband came out for church and did bring me the paper as well as put a new battery in the smoked detector so it would stop beeping. You'll notice it didn't keep me awake. lol I went back to the bathroom and told my husband he didn't make the bed and he says 'because you're going to get back in it'. Well no I'm not. I will lie on top of it to do some exercise but can't do that IN it. It is just so easy to make a bed while standing mostly on one leg, with a walker. UGH. Larry did help make my coffee and bring it to me but I had to get my own protein bar and bowl of fruit. I knew I couldn't carry a bowl of cereal. I sure hope he straightens up this afternoon and I'm pretty sure I won't ask for home health again. A nursing facility is boring but at least people help you there.

Oh, both of them need a Gibbs smack on the back of the head. And how old is your dd? And men are such babies when they are down but forget to take care of us when we are! Since my dh is still at home from his knee, I put him in charge of the dishes----and he lets them pile up---went to put something in the dishwasher the other day and it was full and he had never remembered to start it---grrrrrr---so now we have dishes piled up because I had to run it and he has not put them away yet---oh, well, he is going to continue doing the dishes til he goes back to work. He goes to the doctor tomorrow but I don't think he will be released for going back to work yet---he is definitely not ready to get back on that truck and work for 12 hours.

Got home about dinner time last night. It's rather hard moving around this house. I get to the foot of the bed and then have to back up-same with bathroom. Doorway is too narrow for the walker but I can use the countertop and the door knob to help me take the two steps backward to the stool. Such fun. Today seems a bit easier though I had a bit of trouble with daughter and husband. Both in a bad mood-I texted DD to get the kitchen cleaned up-I came home to clean stuff in the dishwasher and the sink and counter covered with dirty dishes. Gross. She told me I need to be less needy. My husband, after being told last night that my breakfast would be the Panera bagel my friend brought to the hospital yesterday still brought home a dish of food from the men's meeting. I told him I would eat it later and he told me to shut up and eat. Then he said to just eat the fruit. Not sure what put them both in such a rotten mood but if I have surgery again with an option of inpatient care, I may just take it!!! I probably need to go in before long and make my husband move off my side of the bed so I can lie down and do my exercises. I can't get home health care out here this weekend because my house phone is not working at all, they don't have my cell phone # and, of course, their offices aren't open on Saturday. Isn't life wonderful!?!

I should be having theryap before long. I noticed last night that I am lifting the leg a bit better but there's a popping I've never noticed with the other hip. I may go home today-the doctor should be here soon.

I was dozing off when the therapist came back so he just pushed me down there. LOL I then did the exercises and then walked back to the room. I've had lots of visitors today but all at once. My husband is here now.

Kerry - good luck with the surgery - I don't know where I was last night but missed your note about getting a call they got the papers.
Our kitchen is too small for a table so we have to eat at our diningroom table. The diningroom was originally a bedroom that was opened up to the livingroom with an archway. Lucky for me, the closet is still in the room and I have that full of shelves for a pantry. It's really nice for storing larger kitchen appliance items (blender, crockpot, etc.) We have a lot of upper cupboards in the kitchen but not many lower ones so I don't have a lot of room for things like that.

I got a corner of the dining room table clear. lol. I use the table as a pantry because we don't have much cupboard space.
