I've discovered it is easy to avoid unwanted attention (regarding my WOE).
For lunch out, a Chicken Caesar Salad does the trick -- and nobody notices "Hold the croutons". If somebody does, I just tell them that I prefer my salad with chopped pecans -- which I happen to have brought with me. This also lets me snack on my pecans instead of bread, crackers or chips. Or you can say, "I don't like their bread here."

Dinner is usually at home. I fix 2 LC vegetables, a piece of meat for everyone, and a carb dish for the carb eaters -- always something simple like corn, peas, rice, a piece of bread, or whole potatoes. Since I don't eat it, I don't put any effort into it! No one has ever complained -- especially since my meats usually come with some (LC!) sauce or gravy.

DH used to be very unsupportive -- but I'm the healthy one and he's the one with digestive and heart problems. He LOVES his pasta and his sugar! I settled for sending him the occasional e-mail on medical research regarding the beneficial effects of LCHF eating on heart and gut. Imagine my surprise (after 10 years of his resistance) when he sheepishly approached me with the news that he'd read an article on LCHF and thought it "had merit!" Knowing better than to push, I mildly told him to let me know if he ever decided he wanted to try it for a month.... So far, no further progress! At least he doesn't chide me for not eating carbs anymore.

DD also loves her sugar (don't we all?) but she is quite willing to give up the filler carbs like rice corn potatoes, and most wheat products. So when she eats dinner at home, she also forgoes the carb side-dish -- and eats what I eat.

This has had a good effect on me! I tended not to fix desserts since the sugar thing is to be avoided -- and I don't crave LC sugar-free desserts. So I tend to go without that "reward". Still, I enjoy them... and so does DD. And it stops her from eating sugars. So now, I've started fixing LC desserts occasionally for the 2 of us.

Next step, start doing them fancier and more frequently! And eating them in front of DH! Maybe that'll be the incentive he needs to give this WOE a try!

Since I posted so many links on Facebook about health benefits of low carb, and dangers of sugar, etc, my older daughter (age 34) is watching her carbs more and more. She's size 6 and a big Zumba fan too. She wants to be as healthy as she can.
One of the local artistic roller skating coaches wanted to know more about it.
One word, one step, one meet-up at a time and the world around us will see what we see.

So wonderful how you eat so healthy with them. They may not get it, but in the back of their minds you are motivating them. That tiny little match you put in them may one day rage a healthy lifestyle fire.

Went out to lunch with 10 friends today. We had a great time together.
They just don't get it yet. Ordered a hamburger without the bun and fries.
Had a fresh low carb vegetable with it. I enjoyed my lunch as much as they enjoyed theirs.
Today I have choices and I choose to be healthy and happy.

The ladies at Jobs Daughters have not seen what I looked like before, so they cannot fathom why I eat this way. A couple are on Facebook with me so I'm going to post before & after photos.

Day three of doing the happy dance.
emoticon emoticon

I have received a huge amount of support regarding maintenance.
I really don't want to go back to eating all the flours, sugars and other foods that almost killed me.
I will begin by adding low GI vegetables.

I am not sure I'll ever be maintenance. I still eat low carb. The only foods that I can add without gaining weight are a few ounces of nuts and soe melon fruits, but not too much.. I make a lot of desserts with nut meals & coconut flour. I find that if i just eat & cook this way I do not have to worry about going back. I know I'm much healthier eating like this. My splurge is California Lifestyle Soy & Flax bread. It has wheat gluten in it so my daughter's limit is 2 slices day.

Veg 954: On the intermittent fasting you can do it a couple of ways. You can do it everyday or you can do it twice a week, however you want to do it.

Example for me: I eat from 1 PM until 8 pm as I find that with taking the coconut oil, it helps hold me from being hungry in the AM. So breakfast is not a thing for me. I only drink fluids between the hours of 8 pm and 1 pm everyday. Half the time, I am sleeping so I really don't feel any discomfort while I am giving my Liver a chance to do it's work.

I guess you have to find out what works best for you in the end. emoticon

Congratulations on reaching your goal Veg954!!! That is great. Now the real test comes in for you, which is "maintenance." But I believe if you up your carbs 5g a week until you find your "critical carb level," you will be fine.

Wow! I am thrilled for you!

Reached my goal weight a few days ago and have the challenge to add a few more carbs now.
Have been happy with my food choices while KETOing and a resistant to shift.
Don't really want to lose more weight (Wow! Did I say that???).
Added a cup of old fashioned oatmeal in the morning and it was ok.
Found it didn't taste as good as it used to. It was one of my go to comfort foods.

Would love to hear from others about how they transitioned.
I have no clue!

I just kept eating to be healthy & weighed myself every couple weeks, then after 6 months I noticed my clothes no longer fit me. They were 2 sizes too big. That encouraged me to just keep eating right and not worry about how much or how fast As long as I wasn't going back, I knew was succeeding.

How about sipping your drink through a straw? Would that be easier?

Maybe eat all your protein (meat) at Dinner. Not counting your sausage/egg in AM, I guess as long as it doesn't go pass 70g for the day. Should be about 20 grams below FAT. You will have to "tweak" it for sure. Try going to this site to see what your RDI should look like:

Would like more discussion regarding posted links.
Yes, have have regular labs done monthly.
At times, I find this way of eating a real challenge.
Can do low carbs well but the protein is a problem
Always on the high side.
Tried intermittent fasting and need more coaching about this.
When I try to have coconut oil straight or in a beverage I gag.

All suggestions are welcome.

Well after having a few computer problems, I can now officially say that I am back. Looking forward to chatting with each and every one of you. I have a little survey I need for you to respond to regarding our way of eating and would be appreciative if you could give your honest response. emoticon

PLEASE COPY THE BOTTOM HALF OF THIS POST AND PASTE IT IN TO YOUR "REPLY."

Discussion:

How many of you have had your Blood Labs done?

Are you finding eating this way a challenge?

Has anyone done Intermittent Fasting yet, and how many hours do you fast?

Have, were there positive changes since you changed your new way of eating?

well, then, have at it, right?! Do you let yourself snack when you need/want it? As long as you include fat when you eat the protein, then you're still on track, right? emoticon emoticon

Hi Linrosie! I find that if I am snacking or looking for snacks in the evening, then I need to make some sort of fat bomb. If I've had enough fat throughout the day, then I don't usually have the desire to snack at night. How is your fat intake?

Get some fried pork skins and some cream cheese or gucalmole and you are getting two for one, a snack and the healthy fats that will keep you satiated. emoticon

Hope that helps!

Hi everyone !

I'm eating the right foods ..... Feel that I am losing "inches" .... but scale just down 2 pounds in two weeks. It is hard when going to restaurants. Do pass on the bread basket and order extra vegies instead of the baked potato, pasta, etc. To be honest, I KNOW it's the evening wine, even though dilute it water. I have @ a 5 cup pitcher ... put 1/2 cup of white wine, water and ice. Serve in an 8 oz glass filled with water and fresh lemon juice. BUT, can go through at least two - three pitchers in the evening.

Purchased Coconut Oil at Trader Joes .... just a small bit (like 1/4 tsp) satisfies sugar cravings !!! Unfortunately, can't keep in fridge .... gets too hard. On the counter (since some times I'm too "cheap" to turn on a/c) it melts. I just dip tip of spoon into oil and savor the Coconut flavor !!!

I do need to find something to satisfy the "munchies" in the evening. I take a walk .... do weight's (working on upper arms and the "bra" buldge), then my mind says "munchie" time while relaxing and watching t.v. I play games on the computer, do Xword puzzles, etc., but that Devil on the Shoulder tells me to start snacking mindlessly.

I love that story, Diane.

I went on a VERY long walk yesterday and today I feel like an old lady as my hips are SO SORE. Today, I'll walk again but only for about a third of the time. I work at a desk all day so it's good to get up and do something after work while it's still light out in the evenings.

My husband's still doing great with his eating habits and I'm following along to an extent. I'm not as strict as he is and I don't do any counting or anything but everything is a-okay.

Keep up your good work, everyone!

Yes! Thanks Linda! Back on track!!! emoticon

Today I did mall walking. It is interesting because lately we see a rather heavy man doing his walking. He is so focused and I can't help but to be inspired by him. Today in passing he said hello to us and I asked him how many laps he does. He told me 6! Well, I was only planning to do 3 but learning how many he was doing I felt encouraged to do more. So, I did 5 laps of fast walking. Little does that man know but that he inspired me today. One person just sparks another!

Hi

Diane: Hoping you are back on track to day.

Sneaky: How are you making out? Hope all is well.

Well, I have readjusted my intake goals for Proteins and Fats and leaving the carbs at 7%. Even though they say you don't have to count calories, I am bring mine's down to 1300. I feel with the Intermittent Fasting and at least one good meal, that I should be able to survive.

Time will definitely tell. I am going to keep a close eye on my caloric intake for this week and see if I have a drop in weight or lose more inches.

How are you doing today? Would love to hear from you all.

I broke down and had some Doritos for lunch. I put shredded cheese over the top and made nachos by melting in the microwave. However, I'm not craving things like I used to. I really can handle my triggers now because I envision long term success. I also have been exercising alot and today did many laps in the pool ~90 minutes of pool time. I'm quite frankly exhausted now.

Anything worthwhile takes effort..never give up.

See, even he is seeing the benefits of a LCHF way of eating. Being that both of you are doing it together, it will be much easier all the way around. Take a look around and some of the things here might interest you both.

Have a great day, and much success on your new way of eating.

I lost about 25 pounds last year and now I'm keeping the principles in my head and have managed to keep the weight off for eleven months. My husband is finally trying Atkins for the first time ever this month and has already lost seven pounds. He wants to lose another 17-27 so we'll see how it goes. He loves being in ketosis because he NEVER feels hungry and his favourite thing so far is avoiding sugar highs and lows.

How many members are following the Keto Clarity Way of Eating which includes Intermittent Fasting for 15-17 hours?

Jimmy Moore says, that if you are getting hungry on the Ketogenic Diet, within 4 hours of your last meal, it is because you did not get in enough of the "good fats when you were eating."

When you get in the good fats, you don't have to worry about calories as your body will let you know when it is satisfied and the calories will work itself out. But you have to keep your carbs at the 5% range, and your protein "moderate."

Also, if you are not hungry, DO NOT EAT! We should not look at Breakfast, Snack, Lunch, Snack, Dinner, Supper, Snack in that order. Eat only when you are "hungry."

I find that I can last 15 hours of Intermittent Fasting, without food before I have my next meal. So I am satisfied with that. Am blowing "RED" on my Ketonix Stick so I can say, it's working for me. emoticon

Have a great day!

Thanks Diane, but I think the carbs are a bit high for me right now. Trying to keep my carbs at 5%. But it does sound delicious. When I up my carbs, I will definitely give it a try.

Lith: Glad that you are getting back on the wagon. Hopefully it won't take you long to get back into ketosis.

Have a great day everyone. emoticon

Going to get my drivers license renewed today. Need to get back on the stick for weight loss. I fell off the wagon and need to do something that works and I can stick with. Thinking IF and low carb on the eating days. My biggest problem is letting junk food jump into my cart in the first place.

emoticon G'morning everyone. Got up early to spark which I often do at end of day. Hope everyone staying hydrated in this summer heat. I start my day with an Atkins breakfast sandwich. It fills me up and keeps me hunger free until lunchtime. And, it's easy to prepare. If you haven't tried them they are really good! Let me know what you think..have a great day everyone.
