Grateful tonight
* For Southwest pilots and their ability to fly me to and from my folks at a reasonable cost.
* For functioning as well as I did today after only about four hours of sleep last night
* For being able to purchase a cell phone charger, after leaving it on the bed, not in the suitcase when I left
* For being able to record my mom on video so that I can hear her voice whenever I need to...
* For my dad being so pleased with his kitchen remodel. First one he's ever done alone, and his choices are phenomenal! What he's done at age 88 is amazing!
* For the sound of the ocean outside the bedroom window.

I'll read everyone's posts tomorrow. Have lots of catching up to do!
Sleep well, my friends.

Grateful for a beautiful day with my daughter and grandchildren. Grateful for the 6 mile hike on Angel Island and the ferry boat ride there and back. Grateful for the lovely weather and splendid views and catching sight of porpoises, most of all, grateful for the angels.

Tonight I am grateful for:

a night of deep sleep

a quiet day to contemplate matters of great import to me at present

writing in my journal

pizza with mushrooms, artichokes hearts, tomato, and pesto being delivered piping hot to my door

connecting with high school friends I haven't communicated with since I finished my sophomore year--the vicissitudes of being an Air Force brat

the good people in this community.

Peace and blessings to all,

Michelle

I am thankful today for a good day.
_ went for a drive with dh and dog down one of the windy semi country roads
- talking about building on our land in the country
-knee not too bad today, few bad pains but otherwise not bad
- early date for surgery good and bad cos not sure I want it, I want my knee to heal through healing thoughts and touch. Dh who isn't really into said I understand what you are saying but if a bone is broken even naturapathic stuff is not going to fix it. Mine isnt broken but torn and needs to be smoothed out.
Thankful for dad doing okay, he wouldn't come for supper but sounded okay on the phone. would have been their 65th anniversary today, first one without mum
Hope, love and optimisim

Today I am grateful for the safety of all my friends. Their health and well being.
For beautiful SUMMER weather when it is really Spring. For flowers and veggies growing in the garden and more to be planted. For a great day yesterday with a friend as we explored new (to her) areas of this town we both live in. And a lunch shared together under the huge oaks. For an evening with my sweetie, eating popcorn and watching TV.

Thou must be emptied of that wherewith thou art full, that thou mayest be filled with that whereof thou art empty.
-- Saint Augustine

In India we have a flaming-hot chili pepper called "ittle thing" in my mother tongue. It is smaller than your little finger, so small that you don’t take it seriously; but even a tiny bite will burn your mouth. Self-will is like that; a little dose of it can cause harm for a long time.

The remedy, in the Buddha’s language, is nirvana, from nir, "out," plus vana, "to blow." You don’t snuff self-will out in one day; you have to keep blowing away, in meditation and then during the day, especially in your relationships. This world is a place where we learn to return good will for ill will and love for hatred, to work harmoniously with others, and to put other people’s welfare before our own. You keep blowing for years and years and one day the fire goes out.
-- Eknath Easwaran

Good morning! Easwaran's commentary spoke so deeply to me today that I decided to share it in case anyone else can relate.

It's COUNTDOWN time now for Tuesday departure and I'm giving thanks~~

~ that I still have three days to prepare for moving more deeply into the mystery

~ the importance of the teachings of Eknath Easwaran in my life...and that I had the joy of hearing him in Petaluma each week where he spoke many moons ago

~ the shared joy in Noreen, Kathy/DH's coming-together!

~ STLRZGRRL's huge heart and loving/giving spirit

~ FRACTYLMYTH's amazing courage and strong determinatiom, which will see her through this horrible crisis, some-how some-way

~ knowing I can work with self-will toward its elimination, with determination and discipline

~ my new outstanding Chieftans CD, San Patricio, a Latino flavor collaboration produced by Ry Cooder, with fav vocalists like Linda Ronstadt and Lila Downs among others

~ Smashy's loving generosity in sending me ANOTHER CD she burned, great road music

Blessed be!

This morning I am grateful for ...
* Ditto Stlrzzgrl's "people letting us care for them"
* 39 beautiful miles so far, so empowering; 18 more miles today.
* daughter received birthday package FINALLY!
* Slow acceptance that I actually have lost everything put on my hard drive in the last six months - calendar, contacts, emails and documents. Note from the universe: backup, backup, backup
* as always, a life worth living, possibilities, freedom to choose.

Gratitudes this Friday night
* Giving Noreen a hug since the last one TWO YEARS ago!
* Sharing our lovely city with her....
* My son, and his wonderful parenting skills
* Cough improving...pollen decreasing....and no secondary infection setting in.
* Packed and ready to fly out early in the morning
* The excitement in my dad's voice about me arriving tomorrow
* The relief in his voice when I said I would take a shuttle from the airport (since he is in the midst of kitchen remodel and feeling the stress of it all)
* That I am almost packed! Procrastinate? ME? ha ha

Tonight's Attitude of Gratitude ...

~ Two fantastic days visiting my sister-in-law and her son in San Francisco

~ The train ride to Sacramento

~ AT and her husband touring me around Sacramento then sharing a yummy dinner and wonderful company as well as making everything easy for me and dropping me off at the hotel. They have both had a long and event-filled week and still kept their sense of humor about it all.

~ That AT's husband doesn't mind all her Spark friends who come and visit :)

~ That my Sweetie will be here shortly to start the weekend

'g- night all :)

Today, may I make good decisions that create positive outcomes and may I have wonderful, loving people in my life to share this awesome journey with.

"As Aristotle said, “We become what we repeatedly do. Excellence then is not an act, but a habit.” The same can be said of enthusiasm, excitement, and passion. It is a habit, and a choice we make, moment by moment. "- Teresa Easler

Tonight I am grateful for:

STLRZGRRL giving us the opportunity to lend support to a fellow Sparker

my flannel nightshirt on this cold and windy evening

not having to go out tonight

the luxury of bed, book, and down comforter

California walnuts

getting my hand wash done

the possibilities presented by the weekend.

Happy Friday to all.

Peace and blessings,

Michelle

ur
nal_individual.asp?blog_id=3230728

and let her sister MEMORY know you are thinking about her... she is the dearest woman and new to the ThanksGiving group but a dear SP pal who has done so many incredible things in so short a time... she has somehow suffered a fractured hip and is in hospital!...

She thought to let us know what has happened to her... (I always do worry about how any of us will ever know when something goes in the ditch for any of us in real life)... I wanted to spread the word as far as I could...

This evening, I am thankful for caring people who let us care about them...

SEVERAL requests for KALE chips; Valerie has provided a link for roasted; for those who wish to maintain the integrity of the digestive enzymes, you might want to do what TERJE does, and have it dehydrated at a considerably lower temperature, over night, and you can enhance the leaves before you put them in for that, with flavorings such as bragg's, and curry powder; dilute the braggs, and shake the leaves up in a plastic container, then lay out and sprinkle with some curry or whatever.

Changing what you have, Mahalakshmi, comes from changing who you are.

And changing who you are comes from changing what you think.

Which is why I made the latter so easy.

Hey, I think it's Friday...
The Universe
P.S.
Because changing what you think, Mahalakshmi, ultimately changes your words, your actions, the kind of music you listen to, the movies you watch, the places you visit, the friends you hang out with, and, yes, EVEN HOW YOU LOOK IN JEANS (caps mine!).

Tonight I am grateful for:

returning refreshed to this community after a bit of a break for the most part from Spark and from being on the computer so much

the people who let me know I was missed

Maha turning me on to Tut--the messages never fail to give me a lift and often a laugh

a lovely picnic, then a walk by the Bay with a dear couple I so enjoy spending time with

how much more in touch with my body I am since starting Feldenkrais--and it just keeps on getting better

my therapist, who is not only very, very good at what his does, but has a delightful sense of humor

the multitude of graces that rain down upon me.

Peace and blessings to all,

Michelle

On the second odd day in a row, I still count blessings!
* That my car is still drivable (though now in the shop)
* For getting important errands run today.
* For living WHERE I do
* For all the courteous folks I had to deal with today, even though situations were not pleasant
* For my hubby, and his sense of humor
* For MY sense of humor (a gift from my folks, who always had laughter in our home)

And thanks to all of you who expressed concern over the hood, bumper, who knows what else, fender bender.

AT! I am thankful like WHOA! your hubs and other driver are ok...

SO scary!!!

Thx for your well-wishes, Bob... Pickles cornea is starting to heal in the first spot but now has... another spot gacked up...

I am thankful for a vet who will eventually listen to sense (giving me the antibiotic I wanted to begin with and the anaesthetic drops so her eye doesn't hurt her while it tries to heal... sheesh... WHY didn't I go to vet school? WHY? ) and for the ability to have a blood panel drawn for a little dog to see if her insides are ok...

I am thankful for managers who understand that if they don't give me the time to go to the vet... I am going anyway...

And a little peace here in the middle of the day to remember how much I am thankful for...

Days like this remind me of how much I take for granted. And how quickly certain events have the potential to change our lives forever.

Hubby was in a car accident this afternoon. Car is headed off for major surgery, but neither he, nor the woman he hit, were injured. THAT is the big gratitude tonight.

Tonight I am thankful for a semi-productive day. A peaceful nap this afternoon and a super fresh evening. I am thankful for the health of my family and friends. That when I come to this magical thread I find a lot of friends listing a wealth of gratitudes that enable me to reflect even more. Thank you all for sharing.

On this very stormy Wednesday, I focus on some of the things I have to be grateful for:

-A brain that works relatively well (no comments, Bob, or anybody else - LOL!!!)
-Common sense
-Memories of those who have gone before me
-Yesterday's page-a-day cat calendar that looked JUST LIKE Gwendolyn as a kiten AND showed the art of pandiculation that cats can teach us so well
-Starting a jigsaw puzzle, something I love to do but have not done in years
-New incentive program starting at work on Monday - Getting Fit on Route 66 - logging your exercise minutes as you travel Route 66 from Chicago to CA
-The neverending incentive programs offered at my job to help keep me healthy and active

Make it an excellent evening everybody!

Stephanie
