This morning I am saddened by the shootings in Arizona. In the midst of tragedy, gratitude becomes all the more important. I am thankful for ....

* those few selfless leaders who care more about our common well-being than political gain and self-aggrandizement

* hope that the tragedy in Arizona may bring greater civility to public discourse.

* mental preparation for the grueling semester ahead

* re-commitment to weight loss

* a relaxing week in Florida

* time with parents, siblings and nieces & nephews

* the joy of being able to focus enough to read two novels this week

* as always, a life worth living, possibilities & freedom to choose.

Shine,
Sandra

The gloom of the world is but a shadow; behind it, yet within reach is joy. Take joy.
-- Friar Giovanni, 1513

Good morning! I love the excerpt from the inspirational letter, A Letter to the Most Illustrious the Contessina Allagia degli Aldobrandeschi, written Christmas Eve 1513 by a Franciscan monk, that PEACEFULONE offered to us as a blog. It really epitomizes the fullness that our gratitude can encompass. I also give thanks for~~

~ Kitty Rama tucked in at the foot of the bed, sleeping the night with me

~ warmth indoors with the 23 chilly morning outdoors

~ glad for all the bike riding I got in over the last days with today's prediction, "a chance of snow and sleet in the afternoon; highs in the lower 30s"

~ veggie soup on the menu today; perhaps cornbread as well

Tonight my gratitudes include...

~ Getting in my 30 grams of fiber today:-)

~ Still taking my antiviral & steroids (UGH)

~ Picking up my race bag for tomorrow's Frigid 5 Miler. I know that I've been under the weather with shingles and the medication issues, but I'm going to get out there and do what I can. I'm ok with walking half of the race.

~ Dinner of homemade soup with my in-laws:D

~ Taking on the enormous project of figuring and laying out my daughter's T-Shirt quilt for her graduation in April with my MIL. I've been saving her shirts since 9th grade and she's finishing her Master's degree.

Bob - So WONDERFUL to follow you tonight in this amazing practice of ours ...

My end-of-day gratitude includes, among others:

-My sweetie and I doing exercise together daily (and on our own as well) making it special shared time
-Doing REALLY well today, weekends are typically harder for me to eat/drink 100% healthy because I'm out of my 5-day routine
-The amazing italian bean soup, made in HUGE VOLUME today, some for freezing AND more for eating TODAY!
-Farm to Market bread - our treat for the day (rosemary olive oil bread - yum), went great with the soup
-Lots done today despite a poor start
-All of you special people, as we share in this practice of gratitude

Maha great work on your exercise and weight!

Today I am grateful for:

*eating well yesterday, after stumbling on comfort food for my depression Thursday. No guilt, or beating up, just going forward.
*over-coming my self-destructive inertia, which had built up with a medication problem.
*my obsessive, problem solving mind, helping my wife out, dealing with a problem with her dear sister.
*all my many and varied health problems, which frustrate me so, being fixable.

*perspective.

take care, bob

Hi, Michele and all!

Today I am thankful that I took myself outside and went for a walk in the new fallen snow with the pinkorange sky peeking out from under the grey clouds.

I'm thankful that I took myself outside and chopped enough wood for another couple of days.

I'm grateful for a fire in the woodstove.

I'm grateful to friends far and near for just being.

I'm grateful that I can now play 3 tunes on the banjo and I'm working on a fourth.

Cheers.

Yes Steph, Trace was toying with my love and friendship, and finally caved to my charm and great looks! Lynn love the lid!!! Taz, sure hope the shi…/manure is deep when your hubby gets there! Shi…/manure is always deep around here- luvvvvv it, and don’t get me started on compost! Thanks for the wisdom a couple of days ago, and for comforting my inner geak, by referencing a Star Trek novel! Always hate to follow the profound one, but here goes.

Today, and oh yea yesterday I am thankful for:

*not giving in to cravings yesterday, when my depression was triggered quite strongly. I sure thought of comfort food, but did well resisting and even thought to have some bulk, filling food to help-large honey crisp apple.
*going to the Y, and working out, even though it is where the trigger happened.
*helping out an old client yesterday (worked for a long time, and she is rather old and frail), who was having problems, which were unrelated to us, but I suggested a way we could help and it seemed to ease her mind.
*getting my wife to the laughing so hard, she about peed in her pants point, on the phone. I always find something in our during the day calls to get her laughing at least once- her office mates say they always know when I call, because of how much she laughs- but I do love when I nail it, and hear her really losing it. She is such a quiet, serene person, so it really is a great feeling at these times.
*the crews all got a full day in yesterday so they had some hours, and all got home safely in the heavy end of the day snow. Clear roads today, and have some time for them, even with snow on the ground.
*another snow coming tomorrow, and next Monday- rare for here- so extra Bobby quiet time! I want them to have enough time, but a girl does need her down time.

*another app helping me track goals. It is just enough fun, to ensure I track them each day, and flexible enough so I can track various kinds- Spark, Business, Health, Fixes- what I use to comfort myself that are not positive, money, mood, Buddhist, sleep, etc. It is not hard, and it is helping me to gradually gain awareness of the various patterns of my behavior and the different influences on that- sleep time on mood, caffeine amt., business stress on eating, etc. Next one I am going to create is a Comfort Food Replacers- a positive list to follow the negative fixes. Boy am I glad I am not obsessive!! Hey, an obsessive list??????

Know the true value of time; snatch, seize and enjoy every moment of it. No idleness...never put off till tomorrow what you can do today.
-- Lord Chesterfield via Healthy Reflections

Good morning!

After getting to bed late I'm back at it, beginning with remembrance of some of the abundant goodness~~

~ got strength-training done around midnight (at least I did it)

~ the reminder from Healthy Reflections about the dysfunctionality of procrastination

~ KAT'S BETTER THIS MORNING!!! YAY!!! Sorry Michelle is still dragging....

~ another sunny winter day, oh boy, more time on the Trek!

~ continuing to research the carb/protein relationships and ratios for my dietary needs

Blessed be!

Commentary for Healthy Reflections:

Valuing time before it is too late

Often our days are busied with worry, stress, complaining, work, and a general wasting of time. Once we finally realize the value of our time, often for many of us it is too late. While your life might seem like a long time in the midst of it, truly it is a blink of an eye.

Today, make more time to be present in your life. Even small moments--enjoying a cup of tea, calling a friend, reading a favorite book--should be enjoyed. Restructure your day so that you can get all of your work done, but allow for extra time to be spent on personal matters. Stop procrastinating!

Strength does not come from physical capacity.
It comes from an indomitable will.

From the book I am reading (to be told by Dan Allender, pp.179-180):

"Gratitude snatches us out of the rut of the common and shows us a horizon ahead that demands we create a new path. As we are called forward, however, we must turn back and carefully survey the debris of the past. The past path took us to this summit. Perhaps there were other routes that would have been less costly, but the past has led us to this moment. The new does not take away the anguish of the old. But the new horizon and our passion to pursue it would not have come without our first treading the path of being orphaned, exiled, and widowed." [Terms the author uses to describe "orphaned by counterfeit love", exiled by loss of relationship, and widowed by death or distance.)

"We will never come to embrace the heartache of our story until we see it profit another human being. Even then the sorrow doesn´t leave, but seeing someone benefit from our pain adds hope to that pain, and our gratitude begins to transform our past."

~a good night of sleep but continue waking exhausted (I think it is emotional)
~good downpour before bed last night (thought of the flowers I had asked hubby to water that I think he forgot)

~this is the birthday week of my birthday month
~planning Friday´s eating so I can go to our 1st McD´s, here in the boonies, for the 1st time (on MY birthday! I do not recommend fast food; I do recommend bathing in my birth culture on occasion!)
~looks like I have sparked a friend to (maybe) join SP
~finding myself smiling a couple of times yesterday (and just now smiling that I smiled!)
~although no exercise to speak of this week so far, I have lost a wee bit - hoping I keep it up
~have not been wanting to eat lots cuz I am eating enough
~DIL rec´d the Christmas gift I made for her (poem and illustration) that I had ordered framing online (scary!) - she says it is perfect match to their bedroom furniture and just loves it!
emoticon YES!!!!
~an awful discussion with DH yesterday afternoon did not end with me down on myself or angry - what´d´ya know about that?! I am achanging and that´s amazing!

Good Morning Thanksgivers!

Actually, ONE pm as yours truly woke with chills, aches, and wobbles early this morning and chose bed ONCE the coffee with tylenol was consumed!

Anyway, I am MOSTLY up now, so let me say I appreciate reading your gratitudes this sunny and cold day!

I especially love the reminder of the timelessness of The Prophet, from whence we took our wedding ceremony years ago! On Love, On Marriage, and On Children. Thank you for reminding those of us who cherish this poet and his writings, and for calling attention to his classic meditative writings to those who can choose to gift themselves with them!

OFF I go, to tend this fever, HO!
