Yeh Taz, time with in-laws was ok! Sometimes ok, is pretty darn good.

Today I am thankful for:

*no butter blend on Sunday morning English Muffins- my wife makes a butter / grape oil blend so it’s healthier. Big woo you say. Well it is one small step for Bobkind, but a giant step for Bob. I can’t even remember not buttering a morning English Muffin, Biscuit, etc. on Sunday- don’t eat them on other days.
*wonderfully written, and acted movie saw last night with the beloved, ‘The Heart is a Lonely Hunter’. I loved it, my wives only problem was my repeatedly saying, "How do I not know this author???" and "A 23 year old women wrote this???" I would have made a great Mystery Science Theater commentator.
*set of bowls that stack in each other and are sized from ˝ cup, to 2 cups, which are really helping me with portions.
*turning NPR off this morning, after the second “bad” story. Need to know, but not when starting the day.
*my ringtone- ‘Don’t worry be happy’- hey a brotha’ can dream. It helped this morning, and tha’ Rasta mann is playing now.
*pain killers on the bad days
*posting when depressederrr. Something triggered it yesterday, and pain not helping. Sorry for the dark cloud. Oh bother, guess you gotta have one in the group.

Have a good day mannn, oh yea! Eeyore Bob.

I draw prayer round me like a dark protective wall, withdraw inside it as one might into a convent cell and then step outside again, calmer and stronger and more collected again.

Good morning! I'm giving thanks today for~~

~ the amazing Etty Hillesum, a young Jewish woman whose letters and diaries, kept between 1941 and 1943 describe life in Amsterdam during the German occupation. They were published posthumously in 1981 as An Interrupted Life

~ being "on-schedule" with my "To Do" list, meditation practice at 7:00am!

~ good night's sleep

Steph, hope it's not so deep around there, that you have to shovel it. Good luck with your back!

Today I am thankful for:

*a sunny day, with dry ground so we could plant all day.
*a great chiropractor, who I have seen 25 years, for working on me after my neck got really painful after laying out plants.
*catching myself craving food and doing something else, until the craving passed.
*being ok with quiet on the way to the chiropractor. I always have noise on, I guess because of anxiety, depression.
*Jack La Lane’s work for the nations health. I remember his shows as a child, and I use a number of weight machines at gyms, PT, that he created or inspired. Great 96 years Jack!

Have a great week! bob

I am thankful I was able to keep from peeking at the Steelers game until they were ahead by enough that I was able to watch AND jinx them but only enough to make the game WAY TOO CLOSE...

I AM THANKFUL THE STEELERS ARE GOIN' TO THE SUPER BOWL!!!!

WOO!! HOO!!!!!

I'll be MORE thankful if they win... and I am willing to not watch, not listen, not turn on the tv, to leave the country if that's what it takes...

I ma thankful for REALS that I have a space heater blowing on my froze toes because it is CHILLY out there in Mooville's peaceful outdoors...

peaceful because everyone is too cold to get into a scrap...

And I am thankful for a week to drink water until I float because I was NOT doing that all weekend... even if I did manage to salvage it for cardio exercise... after sleeping most of it away...

Boy, was I TIRED...

Tonight, my gratitudes include:

-Catchup phone calls with two good friends today (and doing my recumbent bike cardio while talking, much better than TV)
-A true day of R&R, aaaaaaahhhh
-A wonderful dinner last night with our friend who came over for a birthday celebration
-An awesome salad I put together: spinach, romaine, leaf lettuce, fuji apple, bosc pears, dried cranberries, almonds - YUM!!!!!
-Another incentive program that started at work that is helping motivate me even more
-Dealing with disappoint more healthfully when my back started bothering me too much to handle the 28-Day Bootcamp Challenge videos (as a result of too much shoveling) ... you adjust and move on to the next step, for me, light cardio for a bit with plenty of stretching (and realizing I am NOT a failure)
-My partner doing SO AWESOME on her daily exercise routines and our continued sharing of that time

Have a great night everybody ...

To bring the sublime into the mundane is the greatest challenge there is.
-- Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan

Good morning! I'm moving VERY slowly after bedding down after 2:00am, and I'm also VERY thankful~~

~ for a light evening with girlfriends, including the entertaining movie In and Out

~ for Sandra gifting me the leftover chana masala and brown-wild rice mix

~ for having the courage to document the unhappy news about my consumption yesterday...e.g., 2400 calories, 434 carbs AND over on sodium which almost never happens

~ for pickin' myself up, dusting myself off, and starting all over again this morning...ahhhh -- now that's sublime

~ for the amazing, incisive mind that is Trace (and I have some *inside scoop* here)

Blessed be!

Today I am thankful for:

*resisting the urge to correct my spelling of their on my post for TAZ earlier today. I saw it when I came on to post my thanks, and went so far as to open it up to edit, but caught myself. The thought is what I was trying to convey, and my OCD, will have to chill this once.
*Sale!!!!! At the Big Boy Store!!!!!! 50% off on everything in the store! Woo Hoo!
*hitting a gallon of water for the 5th day in a row. I have never been able to hit 8 cups before, until this latest effort the last month for 8 cups, then 10 cups, then 100oz, then 1 gallon. Thanks again Trace for your help.
*having a really good supper for about 375 calories.
*having the least filled in food journal day since I started recording my food. For me, MAZZR it’s the “healthiest” my appetite has ever been.
*the Crow being on the TV, as I finish up the day.
*the eight years Keith Olbermann did his nightly show on MSNBC. You will be missed!
ttfn, bob
ps. the OCD didn't have to wait long, I edited this post- ahhhhhh!

Good morning! Awwwww...and it's amazing how we all make it here to sing our song, in spite of it all! Vicki, I'm sorry about the anxiety and funky feelings that are upon you...thanks for sharing in-community. I'll be lifting you up during this IL's visit and your friend as well.

This morning I give thanks because~~

~ in spite of a dicey week in both exercise and going over calorie allotment a little, I'm continuing to lose -- YAY! I think it has to do with my uber-healthy high complex carbs, low protein, high fiber, low fat whole foods diet!

~ my before 6:00am rising, giving me some slack in a busy day

~ looking forward to my Whole Foods shopping trip AND

~ movie and lunch date with Sandra ahead AND

~ New Moon gathering this evening (even though the Full Moon just passed over LOL)

Blessed be!

~Did str ex 1st thing yesterday
~caught up w online stuff yesterday (gonna get b´hind today!)
~5 hrs of sleep last night - grateful for that much!

Yesterday rec´d word that a close friend (in the U.S.) was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. That is why I struggled w sleep. I am deeply saddened. I will call her soon (maybe not today cuz I am exhausted). Got word thru a mutual friend cuz she does not have internet. That friend said my girlfriend´s hubby had not been nice but is now being helpful. I am so sad because I am soo far away and can do nothing but pray, phone, send a card. Multiple Myeloma means she will start radiation very soon, maybe chemo (as another girlfriend is doing for HER same diagnosis!). Oh SUPER SIGH! I read that you are given 3-4 yrs, and a few as many as 7. Because it seems to be in her spinal column, I am suspecting that her outlook is bad and she will join another sweet gal who passed on Dec. 28 who was in a nursing home for 11 yrs because of MS. Mercy!

Top that with my inlaws arrival laden with gifts for me (us) - gifts I am not sure I want. You see, they have never liked me and have successfully made my life miserable for most of my adult life leading up to my moving on in the past several yrs cuz talking w them does nothing more than frustrate me more! And, in the past, gifts from them had strings - strings I did not know meant I was to be kind to THEM and "love" them and keep ma mouth shut to let them be who THEY are while...oh my, I am ranting and must stop it now! I have perhaps already said too much!

Thx for listening, buds. I am gonna be struggling to breathe today. Sometimes I wish I was not a sensitive person but I never would be happy living an illusion! I need an outlet for these frustrations!I know...exercise, but not gonna get any till Monday. So must practice breathing slowly in...slowly out. Andbe grateful that

~they are not staying in our house
~I can choose to walk the other way
~altho hubby does not agree with me (he tends to forget what we discuss), he lets me alone when I say "ENOUGH!"
~I can put these gifts away and consider regifting them (wish they were not so nice!)
~spout off with those who like me (hope I am not surprising you!)

-BIG SMILES-

All of you crazy, silly, wonderful, supportive people here!!!! Yes, each of you in your own way ...

Trace - You probably got a link to Twisted Sisters because of your posts that often say "without TWISTING somebody's head off!!!!!! ROFLOL :-)

OK, to the real stuff here - my gratitudes tonight:

-Getting my sweetie out of the house for dinner, the grocery store, ending with coffee - she REALLY was going stir crazy!
-Getting a bit easier on myself about "progress, not perfection" - winter tires me more easily
-Birthday dinner we're making tomorrow night for a friend
-Getting some very light cardio in today since I can "feel" my back after shoveling yesterday
-Handling an odd day at work with grace

I hope everybody is having a delightful start to their weekend ...

*sighs*

So, I've been told, Bob...

I'm on the side that wants to write to Spark Guy and ask him... since he needs the ad dollars so badly to keep this site free... WHY won't he let the Trojan ads pay for some of it since he seems to have no compunction against taking the Reeses's Pieces ad money and the McDonald'ds ad money and the TWISTED SISTER ad money... I got a hyperlink for Twisted Sister and I am NOT lying... Sheesh!

I'm thankful for a free site but can we be a little more equal opp. in our free-ness?!

All right... I'm also thankful yinz guys let me climb up on my soapbox around here oncet'inawhile!

So that’s why people keep counting to 12 around me! Then 24, 36, 48, …..it’s ok I can talk over their counting. Hope all my buds in the St. Louis area are well and digging out from a bad storm. Lynn ditto on the SAD light!!!

*Yeah Sunshine! No snow. Amazingly the front which had been solid all day developed a clear circle in it, as it went over our area, so no snow. Whow! What powers I have!
*Maha’s emoticon portrait of me in my pages comment section. I really like it and it’s pretty accurate.
*finding a good complete protein, and Omega 6 &9 food, but high fat, called by this seller, Amazon Jungle Peanuts, and I have heard them called Aztec Peanuts.
*only shins staying sore from yesterday, great for me for such a hard training session. Ice, Ice baby and back at it tomorrow.
*Trace checking in about my water drinking today. It was low, but she woke me up and I hit the bottle! Trace, do you have this effect on other men.
*a House-a-thon on while I am in my office doing bookkeeping.
*none of the guys wanting to work this weekend. Viva la quiet

take care and have a great weekend, bob

ps. really don't like linking our words to advertising! Don't mind it going on around the page, but I want to read your words without an ad reminder. I'll be outside Spark Hdqtrs. with a Shame on You sign this weekend.

TAZ: I liked Mr. Han's observation about the fact that being still/silent was not the same as doing nothing! think it fits in with both what Maha's poem speaks to as well as what you speak to: silent stillness has as broad a range of nuances and functions as any action does!

THANKFUL this morning for:
-a good tho short night's sleep
-and that I CAN make up for it later
-my hot shower and soaps and shampoos and towels
-and a warm and safe place to care for my cleansing needs
-my Snowy White Purrdita who thinks it is her duty to get me up, even if she has already been fed because....
-I am her favorite "TOY"!
-The privilege of going to the doctor for care
-our warm fireplace and snugging

Ahhhh... A two-fer thanks to Maha for posting and Neruda for putting it to paper...

Taz, aren't the innerwebz great!? I was able to complete a set of dishes that I was certain I would NEVER find... they were an engagement present to my mother's mother from my father in 1954 that I was able to piece the story of together with research from the web and then found the plates I needed to make the set whole again... on the web...

Now I know they came from Sears when Roebuck was still around... probably from a store on the Northside of Pittsburgh.. they are a funky square-ish shape in funky colors of salmon and spring green and cocoa brown and deep pine green... all solid colors and SO retro-modern... from the middle 'fifties and such a great memory to have of my parents and that time and they look so COOL!

I am thankful for the technology that helps me find that quieter, so NOT technical time...

'Tho, I would bet, there was an awful lot of racket going on back in the day in Pittsburgh but I'm gonna hold onto my pretend vision for a minute if yinz don't mind...

I'm thankful the 5" of snow they yelped would come was only 1".

I'm thankful I have come this far in a stressy week without twisting anyone's head off.

I'm thankful to always find you here.

Yes, YOU! YOU right there!

Stillness within one individual can affect society beyond measure.
-- Bede Griffiths

Good morning! I've been up almost two hours and at 6:45am the morning is still dark, there's about 2" of snow on the ground and the full moon is shining through the window. The weather report says: "20 degrees and clear." Giving thanks~~

~ for the shimmering beauty of the winter moon

~ for one of my heroes, the English Benedictine Monk Bede Griffiths (during his third year at Oxford that C.S. Lewis became his tutor and the two became great friends), who directed an ashram in India which became a center of contemplative life, inculturation, and inter-religious dialogue
www.bedegriffiths.com/bede-griffiths
/

~ for the stillness of the early hours

~ lunch plans with two friends at La Lucha Space, a local community center

~ another hero, Chilean poet and nobel laureate Pablo Neruda...Griffiths' text reminded me of a favorite Neruda poem "Keeping Quiet" below

Blessed be!

KEEPING QUIET
Pablo Neruda

Now we will count to twelve
and we will all keep still.

This one time upon the earth,
let’s not speak any language,
let’s stop for one second,
and not move our arms so much.

It would be a delicious moment,
without hurry, without locomotives,
all of us would be together
in a sudden uneasiness.

The fishermen in the cold sea
would do no harm to the whales
and the peasant gathering salt
would look at his torn hands.

Those who prepare green wars,
wars of gas, wars of fire,
victories without survivors,
would put on clean clothing
and would walk alongside their brothers
in the shade, without doing a thing.

What I want shouldn’t be confused
with final inactivity:
life alone is what matters,
I want nothing to do with death.

If we weren’t unanimous
about keeping our lives so much in motion,

if we could do nothing for once,
perhaps a great silence would
interrupt this sadness,
this never understanding ourselves
and threatening ourselves with death,
perhaps the earth is teaching us
when everything seems to be dead
and then everything is alive.

Now I will count to twelve
and you keep quiet and I’ll go.

Congrats,PEACEFUL! Long-term relationships are rare these days.

So Kat,YOU watched the movie Michele and I watched this week! I am still stuck on Mr. Han said, "Your focus needs more focus." MY focus NEEDS MORE focus!

Bob, I know that feeling when every muscle has a good-kinda sore from exercise. Recently, I am experiencing soreness in muscles that haven´t been sore before! That´s a new kinda sore and also amazing!

Sue, I have things like that scarf all over my house. Things that remind me of people and places. The good times. The touching-heart times. Treasures.

~the new bud on my gerbera daisy - a pale, almost white, yellow
~forgot to mention this one a few days ago (got to tell Michele in person). I have this little glass mug we inherited that I always used when one of my children was ill. I want to find a 2nd one and present them to our two living children for their homes. Searching on the web, I found not only it but also that they were in sets - bowl, mug, and small tumbler. I am soo excited! I haven´t purchased them yet but know they are out there - made in early 1950s.
~times when I give myself permission to rest. Onlookers may think it is vegetating. It is not. Pauses in the music of life are necessary parts of the melody and preparation for a crescendo-ing happiness!

Tonight, I am so very grateful for:

-Like Bob, that great feeling you get when you've really worked ALL of your muscles
-Turning 7 inches of snow into yet another exercise opportunity (almost two hours worth)
-STILL DOING extra cardio after that to be supportive of my partner's workout time!
-Lots of great stretching to help my back that was feeling the snow shoveling
-The realization that winters are much harder on me and the way to make it easier is TO KEEP DOING THE EXERCISE (I've slacked for a couple of days now, but that's OK, just time to move on, which I have done)
-Being able to "catch up" on the 28-Day Bootcamp workout videos

Have a most excellent evening everybody!

Yeah meds and wonder juice for Trace!!! Hope all the treatments keep you running! Keep the faith and the patience Sister Sandra- keep the calories low. Sue you look stunning in your red scarf!

Today I am thankful for:

*anyone who is thankful for two Bob’s. Yeah, Trace!!! Some folks aren’t that thrilled with one.
*that I have hit a gallon of water the last few days, and went way over today. My goal is 100oz., but I’m trying for a gallon, after Trace’s encouragement. In the past I could never get 8 cups a day.
*doing really well cutting more out of my diet, and starting to see what I have been doing wrong with my eating.
*finding some really new cool food, I have been researching, at the health food store.

*being truly blessed that my body was ok enough, to get my butt kicked by the water aerobics trainer. We had a great / hard work-out Tuesday, so I think she was encouraged to really push today. We had to work around my bad shoulder, then knee, then hip, then shins but she kept changing up muscles / joints and then pushed again. We have started and stopped so many times this last year due to illness and injury, that we both have been frustrated though determined. I can't say how wonderful it felt to have every muscle sore, and feel really winded it’s been so long! take care, bob

You learn to speak by speaking, to study by studying, to run by running, to work by working; in just the same way, you learn to love by loving.

Commentary, Thought for the Day:

In learning to love, we start where we are -- somewhat selfish, somewhat self-centered, but with a deep desire to relate lovingly to each other, to move closer and closer together. Love grows by practice; there is no other way. There will be setbacks as well as progress. But there is one immediate consolation: we don’t have to wait until our love is perfect to reap the benefits of it. Even with a little progress, everyone benefits -- not only those we live with, but ourselves as well.
-- Eknath Easwaran
