Ya. I need to get thankful for not being cheap about the A/C, too, Schen... AS SOON AS I DO IT!!! (I am running the window unit in my bedroom all night!)

PIX OF GREECE, SAN!!! WE MUST HAVE THEM...

Why am I yelling?

Sorry... I think the heat has finally opened up the cracks in my head a little wider than usual...

I AM thankful for heat... it is better than snow. No, really.

I am thankful that my boss has managed to avoid his head-twisting fate by staying away from me mostly... he does keep sending me emails that push him closer and closer to his final twisty end but prolly not today... so I'm thankful I won't have to add THAT to my list of things to do...

I am thankful for spinach and beets that Schen gave me from her CSA box as they are DEElishuss...

I am thankful for about 12 boxes of drink stix things that I remembered to bring into my office and I am thankful for the really cold bottled water in my office and I am thankful that when I mix those 2 things together, I get a tasty drink that I call water since it is less than 5 calories a jar (I drink from a 24 oz. ex-mango jar as it is measured and I am more easily assured of my gallon a day intake using it even though it make many people think I am drinking something besides water...) and I already have gotten 6 glasses into me!

And I am thankful for the thought to go look for Big Bob since I have obviously been channelling the man and where is he anyway?...

HEY, BIG BOB!!!!

Today I come to the group with a heart that is full of thanks to remind me of how lovely my life is and how much gratitude I need to show

I am thankful that I live in a house that has air conditioning and I stopped being so cheap and turned it on. Now the house is cool and I'm enjoying my evening

I am thankful that my boyfriend went with me to see about a bike that I was going to impulsively buy but he advised against it and I'm glad because as he took the bike out for a ride the chain broke

I am thankful that during my recent visits to the doctor and dentist I got a clean bill of health and lauded for my weight loss efforts

I am thankful that tomorrow is a new day for me to get back on the healthy train by exercising and making the best food choices that will sustain me with good calories and not empty ones.

Today, my gratitudes include all of this, yet so much more:

-Sandra being back just in time to do a "Maha sendoff" (Sandra - I'm looking forward to pictures, highlights of Greece)
-Community-sponsored agriculture, then sponsored again by my company so I can get it conveniently at work
-The weather report showing that this heat and humidity will break tomorrow (so I'm planning outdoor workouts again soon)
-Always, always, always - my health and the many options available to me to try and stay healthy, as I see so many around me with debilitating diseases that struggle to exercise
-That I LOVE exercise and the way it makes me feel
-Every opportunity I get to spend time with a dear friend who's got terminal cancer
-That I can share my friend's dying process openly, honestly and with lots of love and attenion, and just being happy that I have the opportunity to do so (many deaths are sudden and you end up thinking, "If only I'd spent more time ....")

Have an excellent evening!

Stephanie

Eep!

Today I am thankful I got to hang with Schen for a little while yesterday and for getting that mile run in spite of being so tired I thoght I would talk her poor ear OFF in my brain-tired stupor!

I am thankful to see my pal Myth pop in, I miss you SOOOOOO, Woman... and promise to catch up with you!

I am thankful that Maha got some rest before her big summer-palooza trip and am thinkin' I might try to wangle an invite to that trip she's already hatching up in her head for next Feb.!!

I am thankful for a day to get a lot of stuff done in because there is a lot of stuff to get done and I promise to get on it DI-rectly...

I am thankful for two excellent happenstances on two different occasions wherein I was able to buy a lovely little banana colored top from an Episcopalian thrift store in Silver Spring, MD that was half off its already low low price of $3 because everything that began with a "B" was half off that day and I insisted that it was not yellow AND a really nice skirt that I picked up at half-off Family Day at the Mooville Salvation Army that was about $2, I think and together they make the cutest outfit and I have a dinner to go to tonight that I am not paying a DIME for and they will make me a vegetarian dinner and I will get to hear an inspirational story because they always bring someone in to speak who has the most incredible story...

So I get to dress up for cheap and eat for free and get inspired for free and you BET I'm thankful for it all!!!

I am thankful for all that I have been given.
For time in conversation and thought with Maha before she flies away to Equador.
For peace and friends - for time and space to love and learn.
For Mary Oliver - and all her wisdom and thought provoking lines to nourish my days.

For really really beautiful sunshine today, and the thought that it is ABOUT TO BE SPRING.
How great it is.

For all my friends, travel safely where ever you go. And God Speed.

Are my boots old? Is my coat torn?
Am I no longer young, and still not half-perfect? Let me
keep my mind on what matters,
which is my work,

which is mostly standing still and learning to be
astonished.
The phoebe, the delphinium.
The sheep in the pasture, and the pasture.
Which is mostly rejoicing, since all ingredients are here,

which is gratitude, to be given a mind and a heart
and these body-clothes,
a mouth with which to give shouts of joy
to the moth and the wren, to the sleepy dug-up clam,
telling them all, over and over, how it is
that we live forever.
-- Mary Oliver, from Messenger

Good morning! I love the reminder from Mary Oliver to DO MY WORK, lovingly sent to me by Vivian (SMASHY1), a dear and faithful friend. I'm winding down in preparation and stopping for a few moments to give thanks~~

~ paying attention to the exhaustion of body, mind, and spirit last night and going to bed at 8:30pm; up at 5:30am this morning

~ love the coolness of early morning when I'm able to have the door beside me to the porch wide open, in spite of a high expected today of 97 degrees, not to mention the heat index!

~ the wonderful SparkFriends who nourish and support and love me; sad that I may miss talking to Stephanie because of my early-to-bed
emoticon

~ a lovely conversation with Vivian yesterday, and a short-but-sweet one with Dawn, a San Francisco sister

~ plans beginning to come together for a possible meeting of sisters next Feb. on Kauai

~ working clearly and efficiently to be ready for my 4:30 pick-up this afternoon

Blessed be!

Tonight, I end my day with gratitude for:

-A body that definitely "feels" a very active day, a GOOD thing
-Getting through the 400M run at Corporate Challenge, which was the only plan - participation points and getting it completed (despite horrible heat and humidity with advisories out!!)
-Upper body strength training tonight, a 30-minute segment REALLY working the upper body hard (trying a new strength training plan)
-Stretching after a good workout, just feels right
-Short 20-minute easy cardio walk this afternoon for a break, something to get me going but not use up lots of energy
-My comfortable bed and pillow

Goodnight all ...

I am thankful for the cool breeze coming thru my window

And the exhaustion I feel knowing that I had a active and productive day

Today I am thankful for:

- staying healthy in the midst of sickness
- a good night's sleep at last
- warm clothes on a COLD morning
- the chance to send my new (old) car to the mechanics for a check-up and to get all her squeaks greased
- my beautiful new (old) car - a 1988 Mercedes 300CE in silvery green... I've called her Nixie and I love her! The first car I ever chose and bought for myself instead of being a discarded hand-me-down lol.
- waking up early with energy to work :D

Have a sunshiny day everyone :D

Though no-one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.

My gratitudes for this week:

--My family, especially my mother and sister, always there for me.

--My wonderful and loving husband, doing much better after a rough few days (he has IBS).

--My work.

--My home.

--The safety of friends in the eastern part of AZ where a terrible wildfire is burning (sending thoughts and good wishes for all who are affected and fighting the fire.)

--SageWoman Magazine.

--Yoga class.

--YouTube. Only recently have I discovered the many wonders of this site, and while there is much dreck (as with the rest of the internet) there are a lot of great features as well...documentaries, interviews, and music...especially music. Search any song, artist or genre you want and you will find songs to stream, videos to watch, and the 21st-century version of concert bootlegs, taped on mini video cameras and cellphones instead of cassettes. These are not professional-quality shoots, and the sound is sometimes suspect, but as someone who loves to go to concerts, but can't go to as many as I'd like due to money, health and time constraints, it's the next best thing to being there!

--All of my Sparkfriends!

Tonight I am thankful for:
Joining my boyfriend and his parents at their home last night. A trip I did not plan to take but decided to at the last minute and happy that I did because I was able to spend time with them, love them and build more memories with them

I am also thankful for the muscle pain that I feel in my thighs because it is a resounding call that I am taking the right steps towards a healthier and stronger ME!

Peace to all

So ... last night I fell fast asleep before I listed my gratitudes ... lesson learned. Today, I'm doing them early so that won't happen again!!

Just a few of the many things in life I have to be grateful for:

-A day to do only exactly what I WANT to do
-That I woke up this morning, after a very physical day yesterday working for Habitat for Humanity in the mid-90s heat and horrid Kansas City humidity, feeling 110%, literally loaded with energy. Call me dense, but I just don't get it. All I did was take 800 mg of Ibuprofen before bed to help the overuse I put on this body yesterday However, there's NO complaining here, only deep gratitude!!! LOL
-All that I got done (because I wanted to) before 10 a.m. - deadheading the peonie bushes that fill the south side of the house, filling and dechlorinating our water garden (the free refills from the rain barrel are gone and we've had no more rain to get more, but it's ready and waiting), sweeping the deck, watering all of the outside plants and planters, breaking down a few large branches from the front, a bit of weeding AND 20 MINUTES on the recumbent bike!!! Wooooo Hooooo!
-The luxury of being able to pay for a manicure and pedicure, well-deserved, I might add, after my day of physical labor yesterday (even though I love that special kind of "tired" you get from manual labor upon occasion)
-TCBY frozen yogurt, no fat, no sugar added, fresh berry parfaits!!!
-Plans for more exercise after the sun moves away from that side of the house
-Air conditioning, as today is another pisser (as my Aussie friends would say)

Make it an excellent evening everybody!

Stephanie

Hello sweet loving hearts...

I am thankful for
- the challenge of research work that I enjoy, and the brilliancy of actually being paid for it
- movie night with Yeti (we watched Red... right up there with Hudson Hawke as a favourite with me now)
- finishing the work that I love and having racked up enough spare hours that I can spark a little tonight and sleep in tomorrow (as long as the boys let me)
- knowing that my next piece of work is right there waiting for me
- an afternoon of winter sunshine in the bush
- being reminded to come here, and finding my dear friends still present and still radiating positive energy into the universe
- off to snuggle with my little loves and dream of llamas in high fields... enjoy Ecuador for me too, Maha... I will wear my peruvian alpaca wool hat with pride and think of you!!! (I know they are not the same, but from all the way over this side of the world, near enough is good enough!)

Sweet dreams, God Bless!!!

Maha, go to Ecuador with my eyes. I've never been there. It would be a voyage of discovery for me. Make it that for you. See everything as though you're seeing it for the first time.
-- said to me last night by Andrea, an inmate friend

Good morning,

Welcome to the community, MYTIME! Your first post is beautiful as well as thought-provoking...the "sheer perfection" that comes to mind for me is in the beauty and ferocity of nature...the functioning of these bodies at their best...in well-formed words and phrases that create prose and poetry that makes the heart smile...in the exquisite sounds of music that bring tears to my eyes. What do the words elicit in others?

Today I'm deeply thankful~~

~ for moments of the awareness of sheer perfection

~ for morning time, the quietness and pristine quality of it -- its sheer perfection, perhaps...?

~ a break in preparation with the visit later of a friend for breakfast

~ finishing the packing of the two checked pieces of luggage, and not feeling so panicky about being able to take everything that I've gathered together for friends

~ a wonderful conversation with my god daughter's mother, my best friend in Ecuador, who reminded me (they have the itinerary posted on the frig in the kitchen) that I arrive in Quito at 9:35pm, not 11:30pm as I thought (in reviewing the itinerary, I see that the next entry, my departure in August, is at that time [ugh])

~ another amazing send-off last night by my inmate friends at the other prison we visit

Blessed be,
xox

My heart is full of joy and thanks because I have a weekend ahead of me that will give me a lot of time to myself to do whatever I want to do. I am thankful for the cool night time breeze coming through my windows and listening to the soundtrack of the streets outside.

Peace

PIGLET! PIGLET!

Wait... that's not right...

I am thankful for trips about to be taken and jobs not lost and lists that have tick marks next to them and humidity so low in Mooville that I am able to open the windows to my office and hear the birds and smell the cut grass and feel the coolest breeze while the sun shines SO bright...

I am thankful for this:

The sun is high, the road is wide,
and it starts where we are standing.
No one knows how far it goes,
for the road is never-ending.

It DOES start where we are standing... and we won't get where we're going standing here like stones, now, will we?

Ok... you can stand like a stone for a minute... or so... but then we have to GET MOVING!!!

I'm also thankful that when Maha's quotes Fred Rogers... I can HEAR him in my head speaking in the voice of kindness and patience and good...

Happy Friday to us all!

Oh. I'm also thankful that even though a crown popped off my tooth just a second ago...while I was eating a Twizzler that I had no business eating... ok, it was TWO Twizzlers!... so there you go... and even though I found my dentist has no Friday hours... I am thankful my tooth is not hurting me and I have gone a very long time with a crown off my tooth and it will be just fine until I can get to talk to them on Monday and schedule an appointment to glue this thing back into my head...

And I am thankful I have pretty good insurance that allows me to have crowns on my teeth for not too much money and that they will glue it back on and so many people have no insurance at all...

Piglet's Song

Let's find a Way today,
that can take us to tomorrow.
We'll follow that Way,
A Way like flowing water.

Let's leave behind,
the things that do not matter.
And we'll turn our lives,
to a more important chapter.

Let's take the time and try to find,
what real life has to offer.
And maybe then we'll find again,
what we had long forgotten.
Like a friend, true 'til the end,
it will help us onward.

The sun is high, the road is wide,
and it starts where we are standing.
No one knows how far it goes,
for the road is never-ending.

It goes away,
beyond what we have thought of.
It flows away,
Away like flowing water.

-- Benjamin Hoff

Woke up feeling pretty UNgrateful so this is me attempting an attitude adjustment and starting off with yesterday seems a good a place as any. I'm grateful for a new day and the opportunity for a "do-over" at any time. I'm thankful that I got to "see" my hubby via Skype - with his deployment those moments are far too few. I'm grateful that my washing machine and dryer work and are at the ready for the mountain of laundry awaiting them. I'm appreciative of this video that helped me put my day in perspective www.youtube.com/watch?v=8frv9U0O-2U&

As a volunteer coordinator I am thankful for the quote that VALERIEMAHA shared by Shirley Chisolm. Awesome!

Today I am alive, happy and blessed and for those things I am thankful.

I am also thankful that in my yoga class tonight I focused on the poses that I COULD do instead of those that I could not. I am thankful that I was able to get in the front row of the class and as the sun was setting it was in the perfect location to shine on my face and make me feel like my heart was smiling.

Namaste!

Rabbit, rabbit from me too, please!!!!! :-)

Tonight, on this first day of a new month, June, I end my day with gratitude for all of this, yet so much more:

-Feeling like I'm really having a vacation week
-A nice, hour-long nap today with the dreary weather (about the only time I can do it)
-A clean house
-A freshly mowed lawn
-A sad conversation with a dear friend after getting her medical test results today; not at all what we had hoped for, but certainly not surprising - all of this said to be so grateful for each and every conversation we have or phone call we share, but mostly that I have had time, and continue to get more time, to cherish that friendship
-My health, as I continue to try my best to do all that I can to stay healthy, for it's a true blessing!!!

Goodnight all ...

OK, y'all. Rabbit Rabbit - Now I'm set!!!

I am grateful that I am (at least for Now) not having those pesky anxiety attacks I'd been having for some weeks. I'm feeling much better.

I am grateful that the Sun has peaked through the clouds. Also grateful that the trees and plants got a drink of rainwater today.

I am grateful that I have a refrigerator full of good, healthy food.

And most of all, I am grateful that I did something last nite (organized my music books) that I'd been procrastinating..........for a very, very, very long time!

Blessings, every one!

Rilly, Maha?

Man... SO much to remember to do before I get out of bed in the morning... I can barely rem. mah NAME!

Ok... I am saying Rabbit make-up for this morning NAOW!

And I am thankful that I rememered to look for the June thread... and thankful for Maha 's having put it where I could remember it and for her coming BACK to us after she has her next big adventure and for the last South Carolina peach which I ate this morning and was perfectly ripe but I could not wait for the eating of the others before they were exactly ripe and that it is only 84 degrees in my office and not 94 and that it might only get to be 80 tomorrow and one day there will be A/C in my building so my peeps will not sweat to death and maybe even by the time it starts to snow and they begin freezing to death instead...

Happy June to my dear rabbits and if you haven't already, DO call or e-sign up for the Do Not Call Registry because eradication of pesty people is something to be thankful about!!!

Service is the rent we pay for the privilege of living on this earth. It is the very purpose of life, and not something you do in your spare time.

Good morning! RABBIT! RABBIT!

"Rabbit rabbit" is a common British superstition. The most common modern version states that a person should say "rabbit, rabbit, white rabbit", "rabbit, rabbit, rabbit", "rabbit, rabbit" or simply "white rabbits" upon waking on the first day of each new month, and on doing so will receive good luck for the duration of that month. In the United States, the tradition is especially common in Nantucket, Cape Cod and Natick, Massachusetts.

Today I give thanks~~

~ YAY! a month of good luck!!!

As Rebecca says so well:

"The idea here is to write at least five things you are grateful or appreciative each day, thus cultivating an attitude of gratitude."

Please post on this page when it is June 1, 2011.

The common meaning of gratitude is to be thankful for benefits received. While this is important, I feel that the energy of gratitude is one of the most powerful attracting forces in the universe. A heart filled with Thanksgiving, even when appearances tell us that we are mired in scarcity, conflict, and affliction, moves us to a higher frequency in consciousness -- and we soon witness reality shining through the illusion.
