Thankful today for so many things. All that I have been given and use to the best of my ability.
For being a woman, crusty as french bread and as soft as buttermilk bisquit on the inside.
For the health of my family and friends and weather that keeps our California skies clear and fresh.
For abundance of fresh produce and plenty of patience.. (i don't know how they go together but they seem to)

Much love and hugs to all my gratitude friends.

Today's blessings include
* A long luxurious nap after being up most of the night (darn full moon!)
* Granddaughter safe after a horrible fall at school (lots of bruises, scrapes and swelling, but no breaks and not much bleeding)
* Parchesi with grandkids
* Seeing the legendary Merle Haggard up close and personal.
* The painful, humbling experiences in life that remind us we are human

This Wednesday evening, I am thankful for ....

* my son's passion. Last night, he made it through the preliminaries and semi-finals to become a finalist in the Arkansas Diamond Star Chef Competition. I am one proud mama.

* new job opportunities presenting themselves

* released two more pounds

* redbud and dogwood along the roadside

* Nearing the finish line after four years of graduate school

* the sun shining off the cliffs on the other side of the river by where I live

* the young adult therapy group I lead ... they are so eager to grow into themselves

* as always, a life worth living, possibilities and freedom to choose.

Tonight, I come here again to focus on all that I have to be grateful for, including:

-Pieces of the puzzle on a work project are FINALLY coming together
-Persistence, it is sometimes the only thing that keeps me going until I get what I want
-The days getting longer; it's nice to leave work at 6 p.m. and not have it be black outside
-The potential of a new Kauffman scholar match with Big Brothers Big Sisters; the timing is perfect to help ignite and inspire a 17-year-old who's finishing high school with sights set on college (this is giving back for me as I had a big sister for awhile when I was a kid) - meeting scheduled for week after next
-Smartphones (Sandra, you will quickly grow to love it, I suspect - I did in about 24 hours), although I went Android rather than iPhone (sorry Bob!!!) and got the brand-new Samsung Galaxy S2
-Major fun pictures (taken on my Smartphone) of kittens last night - just adorable
-Each and every one of you who share in this special practice

Stephanie

Maha thanks for the 3/3 first quote. Sandra, I don’t know if I mentioned it yet- hah!- but I have an iPhone and will be happy to assist in any questions about it, or accessories, apps, sync in ios or across platform, best podcasts, helpful books, etc., etc…………….Sherrie, I’m down with the dap for crocus, daffodils, and camellias. Don’t forget Lenten roses blooming with them. Tip- plan your fall planting of bulbs now. Look for areas where you wished you had more bulbs and shoot photos of the areas and work out your counts. Most people think of this in Fall when they are ordering, and all the bulbs are dormant. Maha you quoted my main man- Basho!!! You’ve never been more beautiful to me! BlessedOne so thankful you had time with your DH!!!

Today I am thankful for:

*electricity! Our power went out Friday night from the bad storms, and I got to appreciate a level down from appreciating my tech. I sleep with a CPAP, so I couldn’t sleep, but tried sitting up in a chair. My iPad wasn’t charged- ahhhhhhhhh, but I took it to Waffle House in the morning and charged it while eating, and then toughed it out until the power came on and I could work on the computer. I actually also cleaned up my room while waiting also, which made me think, even with lights I could stand a bit less tech time. The only prob, is it did get me out of trying to get back into a routine posting to Spark.

*a beautiful day! I’ve gone past stressing hoping it would get colder, and the plants will slow down blooming and growing, to stressing that it will stay warm and not get cold.

*having something new to stress about. Yeah! New problem-.

*being on site today training the troops in this beautiful weather. It was great to be on site for 4 hrs.

*Jolie O’Dell on TWIT (This Week in Tech), this week. OMG, gorgeous! beautiful, smart, and a sweet, not overly syrupy baby girl voice. Is it me or is it getting hot in here- TMI. My only problem is- always looking for that tarnished lining- is who I should choose to have their love child. Lisa Hannigan or Jolie O’Dell???????

*my wonderful iPad2!!! Wow what a wonderful iPad2 I have!!! Yipper doggies, it’s great!!! I think I love it, I think I love it, I think I love the new iPad…no, no, no, no!!!!! I meant iPad2, 222222222, no new. Anywhooooooo I am thankful for what I have, and looking forward to future purchases. I did order a new Apple TV, with HD, and the A5 chip- hey it was that or ice cream, or a new iPad- no stop that!

*watching the live feed of the Apple event. I watched my buds on TWIT TV, and really enjoyed it as they discussed and joked about the event. I learned a lot, and was not too greedy. I got the small device I had been waiting on and planning on, and actually was content with that.

take care, bob

Good afternoon~~

~ like Vivian, I'm thankful "for the honor of gathering here with like minded people"

~ completed paper due yesterday electronically

~ got unsought-after extension until tomorrow evening on paper

~ another gift from dear friend Annie, a DVD of a Feb SF Glide Memorial Church Service (Annie is a member) and in it Janice Mirakatani talks about turning 70, not to mention Rev. Cecil Williams (her husband), the Glide Ensemble (choir), Glide Change Band, the light show, etc. The sanctuary was packed as usual for the 11am service.

~ wonderful Tibetan Buddhist teacher will be here (from CA) giving a retreat that I'm considering taking

Blessed be,
xox
Maha

I feel led to share some info about Glide and Rev. Cecil, which I started going to in the '60's, driving from Sacramento to the Tenderloin of San Francisco for the Sunday service:

A. Cecil Williams, born September 22, 1929, is an American minister of the United Methodist Church and a community leader, author, and spokesperson for the poor. Williams received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology in 1952. He was one of the first five African American graduates of the Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in 1955. He became the pastor of Glide Memorial Church in San Francisco, California in 1963, and founded the Council on Religion and the Homosexual the following year. He welcomed everyone to participate in services and hosted political rallies in which Angela Davis and the Black Panthers spoke and lectures by personalities as diverse as Bill Cosby and Billy Graham. When Patti Hearst was kidnapped by the Symbionese Liberation Army, Williams attempted to negotiate a deal for her release.

In 1967, Williams ordered the cross removed from the church's sanctuary, saying it was a symbol of death and that his congregation should instead celebrate life and living. "We must all be the cross," he explained.

Under his leadership, Glide Memorial has become a 10,000-member congregation of all races, ages, genders, ethnicities, sexual orientations, and religions. It is the largest provider of social services in the city, serving over three thousand meals a day, providing AIDS/HIV screenings, offering adult education programs, and giving assistance to women dealing with homelessness, domestic violence, substance abuse, and mental health issues. Both he and the church are featured in the 2006 film "The Pursuit of Happyness."

He has been married to Janice Mirikitani (born Feb 5, 1942) since 1982. He is the author of _I'm Alive_, an autobiography published in 1980.

THANK YOU Glide, for all the ways that you have reached out to San Francisco and the World in love and service.

Thankful for...

a visit from my grandfather in my dreams last night. Anniversary of his death a week from tomorrow and I have the feeling there's a message I've yet to process, but happy to see him regardless.

plans for great Indian buffet for lunch with my kiddos and SIL

longer days

little man (8) who came in to tell me that when he's married he's going to do all the cooking so his wife doesn't have to and he'll come cook for me too since I cook so great for him (dare you not to smile at that cause I'm smiling just recounting it).

This Saturday morning I am thankful for ...

* having a social work job offer working with adolescents and their parents. Meeting with the owner in just three hours to negotiate salary.

* Feeling much better this morning after spending the evening with Maha who dropped everything to spend the evening with me b/c I needed her. A true friend.

* A washer and dryer in the apartment so I can frantically wash clothes for this meeting in three hours.. Thankful I don't buy dry clean only clothes anymore. Do they even make them anymore?

* Windows open, birds making bird noices (not exactly singing), shaping up to be another beautiful day.

* thankful for all of you. You are a blessing in my life.

* As always, a life worth living, possibilities and freedom to choose.

Shine,
Sandra

This is How a Human Being Can Change

There's a worm addicted to eating
grape leaves.
Suddenly, he wakes up,
call it grace, whatever, something
wakes him, and he's no longer
a worm.

He's the entire vineyard,
and the orchard too,
the fruit, the trunks,
a growing wisdom and joy
that doesn't need
to devour.
-- Rumi

Good morning! Here in joy with you~~

Thankful for...

the ability to NOT watch the news as things get increasingly hairy where the other half of my heart is.

the 17 y/o that waited WAY TOO LONG to ask if I wanted to chaperone a trip today (a delay that made it impossible for me to make arrangements for the other munchkins in time) but who walked out the door telling me how much she wished I'd been able to come. She's singing in their honor chorus at an event today and I'm so very proud of her.

amazing volunteers stepping up to help keep Home Front Hearts moving forward (even without the funding we so desperately need).

my inbox is actually all visible on ONE PAGE now!!! (working on it lol)

the ability to help a Marine get home to a funeral through an in-kind donation of airline tickets.

being able to begin to talk about my sister without as much anger...

On this first day of March, I have much to be grateful for, but I'll stick with the major ones:

-Definitely Kathy, for keeping us up and running smoothly, every month, every year, always with wonderful wisdom to share
-All of you on this thread: Bob, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE seeing more of you here; Maha, as always, one of my rocks; BlessedDaily's constant inspiration; just realized that if I keep the list going, I won't get my walk - ALL OF YOU HERE who share this amazing practice with me (I loved what Kathy said about the openness shared here, and she's RIGHT)
-This amazingly beautiful day - nearly 70 in March - really? But I'm lovin' it
-Carrying through with my intentions to log off last night and do full body strength training
-A good walk at lunch
-Hope to grab another quick walk right after I'm done here again today - it's just TOO beautiful to not
-Plans firming in my mind (food-wise) for getting this memorial together on Saturday for my dear friend/second mother, coming full circle (since we celebrated her 70th birthday party at our house last year)
-The best and most supportive, amazing partner anybody could ask for

Have an excellent evening!

Stephanie

I hope everyone has recovered from that wild and zany Bobmania month!!! Whew! Rock on! Today, I have been having mostly good, but occasionally having bittersweet memories, of the funny, hip, silly fun of the Monkees show on Saturday mornings, when I was but a wee lad. My status today was as follows:

We lost “A Little Bit of Me, and A Little Bit of You” yesterday, but can still be “Daydream Believers” not worrying if the peeps think we “Monkee” around, as Davy takes “The Last Train to Clarksville”.

It was a special, carefree, exciting time of my life and Davy’s voice is a wonderful reminder of that time.

Blessed I’m going to give you an E+ for your effort- thanks for the inspiration! Sandra, I know the grass will be greener on the otherside, and if it’s yellowed in spots when you get there, check-in with me and I’ll fertilize it for you and as always I will shovel it deep and spread it freely. Steph I am happy for your gain, of such a wonderful relationship with your 2nd mother. What a wonderful thing you to had, and what a warm, loving place she can go on, and on, in your thoughts. And now, to do as I always do and follow along behind a strong women (Maha this time).

Today I am thankful for:

*the chuckle I got from a bumper sticker my wife saw: OMG GOP WTF.

*finally receiving the book, My Evernote. I am thankful, because I didn’t know if it would be released in my lifetime. I think I ordered it last Sept. and each month was told it will be out in two months, or two weeks, etc., bought to give up, should have known it would arrive in Bob month. Of course now I wish I had gotten as an e-book....

*getting to download the new Cranberries album, Roses, yesterday! I had watched the new podast on them, on NPR’s Tiny Desktop Concerts, and heard a song I didn’t know, and figured they were in the US to promote a new album. Also finally got a couple of Jungle book tunes I have loved for 45+ years- want to be like you oo oo…..Then of course I had a few beers, watched some old Bears games on the tube, spit, cussed, threw my cloths on the floor, watched por………..you know- guy stuff, since I’m such a Marlboro man! Have a light

*another totally butch thing: watching a short Lisa Hannigan concert (speaking of NPR Tiny Desktop Concerts), and I only have one thing to say about her incredibly beautiful voice, “I want to have her baby!”

*a run of totally butch activities. I finally caught up on Grey’s Anatomy episodes- 142. In 2007-2008, while having my second worse depressive period I got the first season DVD set of Grey’s Anatomy and it felt right to watch- few things feel “right” during these times. I think I got through about 4 Seasons before, being ok enough to not feel like watching. Well in the summer I went back to the gang, and just caught up in Season 8. A lot of time spent, but very helpful. Got to go put on some camo and kill something with my shotgun!!! (Hello, I have no shoes to go with my camo- hate it!)

yours in butchisity, a real man, Bob

Prayers and blessings to those who suffered tornado damage yesterday!

Today I'm grateful for...

All that's right in my life and here.
The good health my family and I enjoy.
Pushing myself to take an early morning walk.
Accepting what is... for today anyway.
The ability to change the channel on my thinking when the thoughts don't serve me.
The willingness to eat mindfully.
My iPad.
Time to read.
The gift of today.

Mazzy

Thankful for...

Lungs struggling (asthma kicking my butt), old right knee injury acting up due to the rain and a pinched nerve that showed up sometime while I slept last night but still got my elliptical time in. Stride count sucks but "e" for effort.

a new month

another day closer to DH home with us

This Thursday morning I am thankful for ...

* I am struggling this morning. My husband and I decided after two years of separation to move forward with a divorce. While it needs to be done, it makes me extremely sad. Just thankful we remain friends and the divorce will be uncontested.

* only two clients today. I need the time to catch up on treatment plans.

* my daughter and I are having fun planning my trip to Cape Town and environs

* A month in South Africa in May-June. Something to look forward to with anticipation.

* Anxious excitement about moving on to the next phase of my life -- graduation, new job, maybe even a two bedroom apartment.

* as always, a life worth living, possibilities and freedom to choose.

Shine,
Sandra
