Today I am grateful for the RAIN, RAIN, RAIN... it is so cleansing and wonderful for plants and humans alike. I am thankful for my friends near and far and for all the love I feel from them.
I am happy that we were able to get two dozen tamales into the freezer and the joy of making them with my best guy friend. Grateful for an evening conversation with a spark friend I have been missing and that she has lost 5 lbs seemingly without trying. Awesome.

For all this and my health and that of my family I am extremely grateful.

If stories come to you, care for them. And learn to give them away where they are needed. Sometimes a person needs a story more than food to stay alive.

Good morning,

With the introduction of Joseph Campbell into my life in the late 80's I began to see the utterly profound value of story-telling. As I thought of the great ones who have worked their spell on me over the years, I decided to add a link for each...just in case anyone is interested. Bob - Sssshhhhhh (Maha gives me a hard time about the Diet Coke) :-)

Today, my gratitude is running quite high for:

-An exquisite walk at lunch in this amazing weather
-Daffodils, blooming on my desk, a fundraiser for American Cancer Society that I did in memory of my dear friend who just passed
-An excellent discussion with a counselor yesterday about grief and confirmation that I'm taking good care of myself
-Leftovers from last night for dinner tonight, hopefully providing MOI with some EXQUISITE DECK TIME!!! (now looking for our mallard visitors, Daisy and Donald)
-Those incredible kittens - the good, the bad and the ugly!!! :-) It got ugly last night when I put out a new (third) litter box and that crazy Rosie (Maha, that would be the white moustache that was ready to pounce) just rolled and rolled in the litter, then threw a bunch of it out on the carpet ... geez ... (sigh) ... in the end, you can only laugh at the antics
-spring ... is it REALLY here?

Steph, take a sip of Diet and pass it on!

Today I am thankful for:

*on site time at a Church garden we do, pruning the fig that ate Cleveland- Very large, and a white Crepe that should have just been put down, etc.. Well actually I did put it down about 8’ because of its ugly old pruning someone did.

* not getting struck by lighting when I went to Church- to work. God, God I’m kidding about the Buddha thang,, kidding I say, hah, hah… hah, really- I think he bought it.

*nice lunch with my wife, who works close to the church I was working at. I also helped her pick out some glasses, since I am her gay best friend, who is her main fashion consultant- she asks what cloths, shoes, hats, etc. go best together, and hello, accessories.

*shooting some flower photos at the church gardens and back at the house, which was really great. Yes Maha, I am posting some of them.

*getting some invoices out.

take care, bob

Good morning,

Deeply grateful~~

~ Sandra's spirit of generosity in lighting a lamp for me on an analytical work project

"Yoga Therapy for People with Cancer and Chronic Illness Training is a three-part certification program designed to train experienced Yoga teachers to work safely with cancer patients at any stage of illness and with people dealing with stable chronic illnesses. The goal of this program is to enable Yoga teachers to adapt traditional Yoga practices to meet the physiological and psychological needs of this population and to communicate effectively with medical personnel. At the completion of the program, Yoga teachers will be qualified to design and implement wellness/stress management based programs in inpatient and other clinical settings. Certificates of completion are awarded for each level of training and a certification in this specialty is granted following completion of all three levels."

As I end my day, I have much to be grateful for, including:

-Following our infamous Bob on this board AND clearly we're soul buddies as I, too, struggle with a Diet Coke habit
-A short but sweet catch-up call with Maha yesterday (wherein I forgot to thank her AGAIN for the wonderful grief CDs and workbook that she gave me many moons ago that are in use again)
-Getting some needed support from a number of people
-Learning (again) - or maybe I should say focusing again- on the fact that death is part of life
-My emotional strength
-The case of the missing hormone package (oh NO!!!!!!) that I'm hoping one of the kittens temporarily carried away, although they've never been attracted to the silver punchout packaging before - but problem resolved by calling pharmacy, even though I have to pay cash because insurance won't pay for it for another week (argh) - will spend more time searching tonight ...

Sherrie, glad you could join the legions of women following me. It’s a curse, but hey if you are going to be a pied piper, women are better than…….oh, in the cue of posts- nevermind.

Maha, there is a podcast on iTunes you might like: APM:On Being- has a wonderful cast called- ‘The Ecstatic Faith of Rumi’.

Today I am thankful for:

*catching up on sleep yesterday. I didn’t have a choice, my large sleep deficit hits me sometimes, and it’s Zombie time. And of course on top of that, some Communist, Socialist, Nazi instituted frickin’ daylight savings time, and took an hour from me!

*enjoying the ‘Amazing Race’ with my best girl last night. It’s our only reality show, and we really enjoy it.

*getting some invoices out.

*Coke and Pepsi are changing their formulas to avoid warnings for cancer- the caramel coloring has been listed in California. Anything to get me to cut back on my Diet Coke Habit. Hello! It’s all about Bob.

*finding some Buddhist music. Yo, yo, yo homzzz! At breakfast I read a new article on my iPad that I had grabbed on a Buddhist Rapping Monk. I am not an aficionado of Rap and Hip-Hop (can’t be if you use aficionado), but I do really like the Hassidic Jewish Reggae rapper, Matisyahu- ok very little street cred. Ok this is more Matis-lite with the Chipmunks on a couple of cuts! But it’s free, and it’s a start at something new. There is some nice phrasing in places, and it’s so nice to hear Dharma terms in such a modern context.

take care, all who follow me, Baba Bobba

Thankful for...

one of my "adopted" daughters (one of my kids' friends who finds here more home than her own) still here with us and only slightly worse for wear after what could have been a tragic car accident (although admittedly, this frazzled an already stressing over having a driving age child Mama tremendously).

taking the kids to see the high school's musical - Zombie Prom and watching all four of their faces light up through the show.

plans to take the kids to a Purim Carnival (wish me luck pulling that off and still getting back in time to grocery shop, cook and clean in prep for inlaws over for dinner tonight).

~Check out the site above for an amazing video of millions of daffodils. If I were near enough I would visit this in person.

~Many thanks for the lovely spring weather. Hoping there aren't too many global warming issues going on, ice caps melting and Pacific Islands disappearing, etc.

~Eating well and exercising and the scale is showing it.

~Gorgeous sunsets.

Blessings!

Your most welcome Sandra. When you are ready to talk camera and photo editing apps, let me know.

Today I am thankful for:

*beautiful weather today.
*seeing the Waffle House gang and chatting them up.
*a nice time on the back porch listening to the Aine Minogue Pandora channel, the birds, being surrounded by the garden, and catching up my time cards for the month- a vital step in invoicing,
*watching an interesting Netflix offering on Alaska while doing rote data entry.
*getting back to a group I haven’t posted on in a long time, where I feel I really fit.
*being able to do quite a few posts on this site, so far this month, and having this one be short.
take care, bob

Maha, love the quotation this morning! Elaine, I will share pictures when I learn to use the camera (answering the phone comes first .... LOL). Bob thanks for confirming they are dogwoods. Their beauty helps me transition from work mind to home mind... Kathy, prayers for your DIL and family. Glad she is tolerating radiation well. For everyone ... Happy Saturday!

This spectacular Saturday morning, I am thankful for ....

* Sun, birds, flowers, river off my deck, crisp spring air
* Coffee with Maha and Gengki Warrior this afternoon
* A made bed and clean kitchen
* A new-found sense of contentment ... all is well
* A supportive community of friends who mean the world to me
* Anticipating next week's trip to Florida and my daughter home a week later

Today I am grateful for much. At this moment I am especially thankful to not be taking my life and all it's lessons for granted. And also for the sunshine streaming through my window. emoticon

A life of gratitude accepts the bad with the good. Genuine gratitude is not a zero sum game in which thankfulness increases the more fortunate you are and decreases the more adversity you experience.
-- Dan Clendenin

Good morning,

Accepting it all in gratitude~~

~ the over-the-top GREAT news that Kathy's DIL is handling the radiation well

~ accepting admin position to assist with an important program (training yoga teachers to work with people with cancer and chronic illness), which will place me at the ashram almost an entire month and culminate with the Krishna Das retreat at the end of May!

~ getting "green light" from one prof to take final exam Mon. rather the scheduled Thurs. in order to leave sooner for the drive to Virginia (possibly with friend GENKI WARRIOR!) -- one prof has yet to respond

~ current work project nearing completion, which will mean some needed $$

~ an extraordinarily good biography by poet-son Kim Stafford about his poet-father, EARLY MORNING: Remembering My Father William Stafford

Blessed be,

Friday night gratitudes
* DIL tolerating radiation well...and so are the kids with having her gone all week!
* GREAT theater last night
* GREAT lunch with old friend today...spent over over 3 hours in upscale restaurant catching up on EVERYTHING! (and I ate really healthy!)
* Being able to sleep when I want to...without being called out of bed at 5:00 a.m. by an alarm clock anymore
* Full moon on the wane, and knowing I will finally be able to get some sleep
* Being able to listen to my body when it hollers at me...and even when it speaks quietly...

This Friday evening I am thankful for ...

* it's Friday and the work week is done (except for the paperwork this weekend)

* learning a LOT ... trial by fire ... today it was crisis intervention (a telephone call from a homicidal woman) and writing letters to a probation officer for someone with antisocial personality disorder (how carefully can you choose your words?)

* a fun weekend planned -- fundraiser for a Shakespeare festival Saturday night, breakfast with a friend on Sunday and New Moon Sisters Sunday night

* tomorrow afternoon is reserved for much needed errands

* the river looked beautiful at sunset tonight ... so picturesque against the sunlit cliff wall

* Nermie (my kitty) welcomed me home

* as always, a life worth living, possibilities and freedom to choose

Shine,
Sandra

Today I am thankful for:

*a gentle rain falling on the tin porch roof yesterday afternoon.

*the joy my wife gets in telling me that the Giant Chionodoxa (a bulb) is blooming. It always cracks her up because the giant- Chionodoxa lucilliae ‘The Giant’- is actually 4-5” high. Big for a Chinodoxa, but pretty tiny overall, and always cracks her up.

*my joy in seeing the Dwarf Narcissus ‘Angel Tears’ blooming. It has a pendulous corona and recumbent petals and is a tiny beauty in the garden.

*Sandra they are indeed dogwoods, that have naturalized along the highway.

*a bad working relationship with an employee ending today.

Thankful for...

the belief and positivity of others when I flounder

the capable and compassionate people sharing my vision and helping me to make a difference for the families Home Front Hearts serves

my babies - who drive me crazy, push my buttons, and still are the greatest gift I've ever been given (besides the dh who besides being a catch all on his own - gave me them).

Darkness deserves gratitude. It is the alleluia point at which we learn to understand that all growth does not take place in the sunlight.
-- Joan Chittister, Uncommon Gratitude

Good morning,

Oh oh, Sandra is already hooked -- "found an application to study for my licensing exam." Much to be thankful for~~

~ the exquisite pale golden orb is still visible at 6:15am

~ I made lemonade from lemons, my big disappointment at cancelling a trip to Little Rock last night for The Wiz (pounding rain, thunder-lightening discouraged me from making the 2 hr. round trip drive -- as it turns out it only got WORSE as the evening wore on) became a quiet night, meditation, and a good night's sleep

~ beginning to think-dream about December-January in South America, a "gift" of sorts for finishing my degree in Spanish in December (my goddaughter Amrita's birthday is Dec 30 [1999] and her mom Adelaida's is Jan 30 -- the last time I was there on Adelaida's birthday was 1998 )

~ baby limas soaked last night and cooking now

~ the anticipation of a phone date this morning to discuss administering some programs for a friend at the ashram

~ Sandra's gracious agreement to help me develop a power point presentation creating great relief regarding this project

Blessed be,
xox

Stephanie, way to put up a happy front, but reading behind the lines I can see your pain at being an Android person. I can help, but can only do so much, the rest is up to you. The first step is realizing you have a problem and asking for help- aka. your “happy” post. The second, realizing that using Android is a choice, you weren’t born with it. Then just have faith in iOS and invoke your return policy, and be free of Android! Walk to the iLight my child.

Yesterday and Today I am thankful for:

*I survived yesterday’s bad hair day. Wet hair and CPAP= Hate it!

*new chick series to watch, “Private Practice”. Love the red head, and is Taye Diggs gorgeous or what ladies?

*dealing with a hit of a number of depression triggers better. I was about to go dark, when I decided to go with comedy. I went to Airplane II- luvvvvvv the bad puns- and was fully prepared to “whip out” Blazing Saddles if needed. Don’t make me get the Holy Grail!

*watching a PBS special, “Peter, Paul, and Mary’s 25th Anniversary Concert”, with my wife. We really enjoyed the music and had a great time talking over it about memories we had of the songs and the times. We do have different memories, I was 4 and she was 18 when most of the songs were coming out, but many of the feelings and thoughts of the songs were very similar and we had a wonderful trip back to the 60’s and youth.

*gang at Waffle House. Tricky to get healthy food there, but as my wife says after going with me once, “It’s good for your soul.” I am much more cut off now at the house, and the couple of times a week I go, it’s great to joke with the gang, and be where everybody knows your name. Come to think of it, I am pretty much shaped like Norrrrrmmmm.

*Peaceful one sharing a tech idea with me!!!

Thankful for...

persistence in the face of resistance

Baby girl finally falling asleep curled up on me last night after a long period of gut wrenching sobs after one of my older kids made a thoughtless (but not intentionally hurtful) comment about my sister's "final resting place" because of how she'd died and baby girl lost it with aching and longing for Aunt Shelli. Her snuggled against me (and not realizing how very much she reminds me of my sis) - was heartbreaking for Mommy too and left me very, very angry again (but briefly) at my sister. At the end of the tears, reminded again (as I am most every moment), how grateful I am for this little one of mine with her big heart and usually tough attitude that hides an old sensitive soul.

The feeling of abundance on the horizon, not here quite yet, but approaching in its own time and way. And learning to stop trying to "make things happen" and trust that everything is working perfectly.
