Grateful tonight for many things, such as....
* Another excellent workout with trainer
* Appointment cancelled at last minute (Yay!) leaving me without obligation this afternoon
* Mom stable in the hospital after unresponsive episode earlier in the day.
* Phone service, so I could "be there" long distance, for my dad today and to exchange information with the hospital staff several hundred miles away.
* My brother, for stepping up once again...
* Hearing my hubby on the phone (again, grateful for it) long distance with his daughter

Today I am thankful for:

*for the links and info. Maha has posted on my page. Crazy freezing water!!! Also loved the wisteria tunnel.

*again today to my foreman for running the ad. We’ve had a big problem with the search engine of the Co. the ad is with, but are soldiering on.

*putting on my ‘Twin Peaks’ album (very calming), and posting to my friend feed, while calming down before calling the co. about the ad. I was so upset at the cost and lost time that I was ready to kill, but am getting to a catching more bees with honey place now- can I release the bees inside their place after I catch them? Please?

*getting some invoices out today.

*the openness of a bud on Spark, in their mail they sent me.

*a totally debauched, chaotic evening last night…..Ok not the girls coming over, I watched the new Spartacus: Vengeance episode.

Party on dudes! bob ps. two more nights on my wild own!

Good morning! What fun to post after dear vacationing Sandra. Sadly, my post here from yesterday evening isn't here...very strange...or NOT, with the poor internet signal out here in the woods.

Much gratitude in my heart~~

~ bike riding yesterday with two special friends, one visiting from Vashon Island, WA

~ helping a dear friend navigate through waves of anxiety

~ ample and refreshing sleep

~ the joy of anticipation

~ an amazing poem shared by a friend which SCREAMS to be shared, so I'll post it below

Blessed be,
xox
Maha

CRABBY OLD MAN

When an old man died in the geriatric ward of a nursing home in North Platte, Nebraska, it was believed that he had nothing left of any value.

Later, when the nurses were going through his meager possessions, they found this poem. Its quality and content so impressed the staff that copies were made and distributed to every nurse in the hospital.

One nurse took her copy to Missouri. The old man's sole bequest to posterity has since appeared in the Christmas edition of the News Magazine of the St. Louis Association for Mental Health. A slide presentation has also been made based on his simple, but eloquent, poem.

And this little old man, with nothing left to give to the world, is now the author of this 'anonymous' poem winging across the Internet.

Crabby Old Man

What do you see nurses? ... What do you see?
What are you thinking ... when you're looking at me?
A crabby old man, ... not very wise,
Uncertain of habit ... with faraway eyes?

Who dribbles his food ... and makes no reply .
When you say in a loud voice ... 'I do wish you'd try!'
Who seems not to notice ... the things that you do .
And forever is losing ... a sock or shoe?

Who, resisting or not, ... lets you do as you will,
With bathing and feeding ... the long day to fill?
Is that what you're thinking? ... Is that what you see?
Then open your eyes, nurse, ... you're not looking at me .

I'll tell you who I am, ... as I sit here so still,
As I do at your bidding ... as I eat at your will.
I'm a small child of Ten ... with a father and mother,
Brothers and sisters ... who love one another.

A young boy of Sixteen ... with wings on his feet
Dreaming that soon now ... a lover he'll meet.
A groom soon at Twenty, ... my heart gives a leap.
Remembering the vows ... that I promised to keep.

At Twenty-Five now ... I have young of my own.
Who need me to guide ... and a secure happy home.
A man of Thirty ... my young now grown fast,
Bound to each other ... with ties that should last.

At Forty, my young sons ... have grown and are gone,
But my woman's beside me ... to see, I don't mourn.
At Fifty, once more, ... babies play 'round my knee,
Again, we know children ... my loved one and me.

Dark days are upon me ... my wife is now dead.
I look at the future ... and shudder with dread..
For my young are all rearing ... young of their own.
And I think of the years ... and the love that I've known.

I'm now an old man ... and nature is cruel.
Tis jest to make old age ... look like a fool.
The body, it crumbles ... grace and vigor, depart.
There is now a stone ... where I once had a heart.

But inside this old carcass ... a young guy still dwells,
And now and again ... my battered heart swells.
I remember the joys, ... I remember the pain.
And I'm loving and living ... life over again.

I think of the years, all too few, ... gone too fast.
And accept the stark fact ... that nothing can last.
So open your eyes, people, ... open and see
Not a crabby old man. Look closer ... see ME!!

Remember this poem when you next meet an older person who you might brush aside without looking at the young soul within . . . . we will all, one day, be there, too!

Monday night gratitudes
* Sharing Ann's appreciation of sun (She gets the weather about 1-2 hours before we do!)
* Bob's humor...you crack me up.
* The inspiration of Randi and Maria and the way they face their obstacles. Always humbling to be in their presence
* For the courage of those undergoing treatment for cancer. NONE of it is easy.
* For the roof over my head, the heat in our home, and plenty of food in the fridge.
* For indoor toilets, washing machines and showers with hot water!
* For my own shoes, my own problems, and my own life. Perfectly imperfect...

BLESSEDDAILY, I do cut a fine figure in the visualized outfit don’t I? AT, what a blessing you got a good nights sleep, congrats! Hey, hey TWINSFITBY40, who is your fav. cheerleader??? I’m hurt! Hurt I say! Oh well, I’ll struggle on somehow, in a world without meaning. So glad you are enjoying your son at 18. If he is like most men, he might not mature a whole lot further for a few years- hah!

Today I am thankful for:

*a wonderful movie, ‘The Secret of the Kells’ I got for us for St. Patrick’s day that we watched last night. The graphics were wonderful and we really enjoyed it.

*Mannnnnn, have you ever seen a bluer sky, man? Got any Doritos??? Not smoking something new now Steph, just another shower. This one was not as earth shattering, but I feel pretty, oh so pretty, ….

*having my computer tech out to help me, and only having a mild headache after he left.

*a good long talk with my sister, which went well for a change.

*my foreman who is running another labor ad for me. I am so fried out on them after years of doing them myself, that I hate to run them anymore.

*it’s party time in TN. The ole ball and chain left on a business trip, so let the wild parties begin. I texted Tiffany, Bambi, and Thumper, and they are all set for tonight- woo hoo!

take care, bob

Hello everyone.
Today I am feeling very blessed and am so thankful for my life with both its good things and its not so good things.
I am thankful for
-my wonderful family with their ups and downs
-enjoying my morning coffee with my sister every weekday before she goes to work
-a great conversation with my son this morning that shows me (yet again) how mature and wise he is at 18. He makes me extremely proud. Although he deals with all of his physical disabilities, his mind is incredibly wise beyond his years. I am truly blessed by his presence in my life.
-my husbands undying love and loyalty
-food in my fridge, a heater I can control, running water and a safe home
-for Kathy and this wonderful, uplifting forum
-a new week to make better choices in my life
-my beautiful twin sister who is my best cheerleader, she always makes sure to acknowledge all of my achievements ,big or small (what would I do without her)
-all of you and the gratitudes you share with me

Good morning.

Today I'm grateful for...

All that's right in my life and here.
The good health my family and I enjoy.
Small challenges... Figuring out how to fix a light that I broke while changing the bulb that broke in the socket with a pole because I couldn't reach it and grateful that the broken bulb glass didn't get into my eyes. Any suggestions?
An early morning walk behind me.
The willingness to get back on track and plan ahead.

Until tonight, I sure didn't. So among my many gratitudes, I am thankful
* For the time I got to share with her and Lee Lessack tonight. The reinforcement that many entertainers are as delightful off stage as they are on...
* For a REALLY good night's sleep for the first time in 9 days! YAY!
* That our housesitter arrangements are solidified.
* GREAT sale at Kohl's - 80% off, and then 20% off that! (New clothes at thrift store prices!)
* Crispy cold weather...wet sleet on my windshield...and more rain in the forecast!
* Hot oatmeal with cherries and molasses tonight for late night dinner...perfect to help induce sleep.

Bob - my favorite cheerleader!

St. Patty's Day - one holiday closer to DH home to celebrate with us

Quiet house still at this hour (which could only mean that baby girl - the child who only requires 2 hours of sleep a night apparently - must be having a slumber party elsewhere). And of course as I typed this sentence, baby boy just walked in for Mommy's attention. Good kind of interruption - smiles.

Love is so exquisitely elusive. It cannot be bought, cannot be badgered, cannot be hijacked. It is available only in one rare form: as the natural response of a healthy mind and healthy heart.

Good morning,

~ my friend also gifted me a copy of the book she just finished, THE GIFT: A dialogue with Sprit, which I'm looking forward to reading

BLESSEDDAILY, YEAH!!! WOOPEE!!! On the weight lost! You go girl (and love the doo!). DITTO YEAH AND WOOPEE for TWINSFITBY40 for her new exercise routine!!! Also, great to read of her wonderful support system. I was glad I could read her post and not even feel like tasting her infamous cookie pops.

Steph, I never have smoked, it just seemed the right expression for the post shower experience. Crashing blood sugar is no fun, so glad you’re fine. Great for you that you were giving platelets! Sandra, I don’t know Anam Thubten, I’ll have to do some googling today, glad it was a nice finish to your week.

Today I am thankful for:

*residing in the post shower afterglow!!! I feel pretty, oh so pretty, …….’The hills are alive with the sound of music…..So it truly is a post PS world.

*a hardy Hello Bob! from the Waffle House gang. Norrrrrmmmmm!

*free streaming of the new Shins album on iTunes.

*free Irish Cheddar from our health food grocery- Earthfare.

*a good laugh when I read the response from my Tibetan Buddhist teacher, to an email I sent him. ”Hello Bob-la, That's amazingly a very short note, too short to be from you. It took me a while to take it seriously enough.” Ok, so I do go on and on and on occasionally, maybe frequently, most often possibly......

*Ashley Judd calling into Car Talk (Car Talk and Wait, Wait a Sat. morning tradition). She is just as beautiful on the radio as she is in movies and now TV- la rowww!

*having a bash, with Basho, reading haaaackkku with kitty under the Yoshino Cherries that are in full bloom.

Happy St. Patty’s Day, O’lessbigbob

Thankful for...

hitting the 20 pound weight loss mark and being able to celebrate me with that but not fixating on how far from my "final number" that is. Making it more about life changes and habit building.

getting my hair colored (5 inches of gray roots do NOT flatter a forty-ish woman). Color is so much better but prouder still of the rare "gift" to myself

St. Patty's Day where this nice Jewish girl gets to be Irish with the crazy Scottish/Irish in-laws. Never made hamantaschen like the kids and I do every year for Purim so debating whether we should make a batch and dye the dough green! LOL.

Today I am thankful to God for:
The extra $1000 that I received for my birthday
The $50 my mum gave me
The bills I have paid for
My leg which is healing
Teaching me how to eat and enjoy fruits and vegetables
The rest I am getting at home
The youtube videos that lift up my spirit.

-My wonderful Italian vegetable bean soup from the freezer for dinner tonight, which leads to ...
-A well-deserved evening of chilling out

-The Oreos that saved the day - they told me it would bring my blood sugar back up
-Trader Joe's - I just love that store
-The beautiful spring flowers popping out everywhere
-Blooming trees!!!

Sandra, what Tibetan Buddhist teacher are you seeing tonight? Enquiring minds want to know.

Today I am thankful for:

*Sweet mystery of life at last I found you!!! OMG, I had a shower today at the Y! Easy to please you’re thinking, off his meds maybe, hello, your wrong. My plumbing has totally quit working this week and I have not had a shower all week! Hate it! I also haven’t had a regular shower in about 6 months, since I have been “making do” with it not working correctly. So, it was a big deal, and a rather long one.

*shampoo
*soap
*towels
*my wife laughing at the message I left her. I sang the above mentioned tune in my best Madeline Kahn voice. I also answered the phone when she called back with a rendition of 'Everything is Beautiful', which she got a kick out of. Boy was that shower greatttttttt! Think I need a smoke. take care, bob

Sandra way to go losing weight!!! Kaligirl thanks for checking in!

Today I am Thankful for:

*my therapeutic massage yesterday and chiropractic adjustment. The work is more pressure point (very hard pressure), and trigger release than massage. So I hooped and hallered and we’ll see if good comes of it. He really knows his stuff, but my body is in such bad shape, it really hurts everywhere he works.

*the Subway guy speaking. I go there sometimes for breakfast, and the guy never says a word. Today he spoke a few sentences, and was semi-communicative, nay cordial

*training my lead trainer in how to prune Dwarf Weeping Japanese Maples. It’s by far the hardest thing to prune, since you have to go against most rules of pruning. In 32 years of business, I’ve only had 3 other people prune these, usually doing it myself.

*finding a girdle that fit. Monday I tried my new girdle / back brace and could barely fit. The large was much too big, so I got the Medium- ok when I lose weight I figured but I have gained weight since then, so I almost killed myself pulling it to meet in the middle. So today I fumbled around and found one a bit smaller that fit oh so well. Talk about form fitting, and great support where a guy needs it. And no panty line!!!

*A day! Apple delivery day! Yeah! Yippee! My new version of the Apple TV was delivered today, a whopping day earlier than expected! Oh the joy! Yeah Airplay!

*for my iPad2. I love my iPad2, I do, I do, I do! Bobbbb come to my Retina display! Noooooooo New iPad, begone, ye viper, release me from your evil claws.

take care, bob

This morning I am thankful for ....

* job interview scheduled for a job I would enjoy working with adults in an outpatient clinic that would enable me to continue to live near friends

* job fair today to get to know organizations that are hiring ... maybe I will find similar opportunities closer to where I now live so I don't have to move. One can hope .....

* exploring the world of online dating ... interesting email conversations with new "friends"

* could have turned on the air conditioner yesterday it was so warm (my apartment gets a lot of sun) so thankful for my tabletop fan. And even more thankful the trees in front of my windows are beginning to leaf out. And no, I didn't turn on the air conditioner.

* lots happening today -- job fair, weigh in (i've lost another 2-3 pounds) and book club discussion tonight.

* as always,a life worth living, possibilities and freedom to choose.

Sandra

I've learned from experience that the greater part of our happiness or misery depends on our dispositions and not on our circumstances.
-- Martha Washington

Good morning!

Sherrie, a university choir-mate was given tickets for her and her boyfriend to go to a Renee Fleming concert in, I want to say, San Antonio, TX last week. (They spent the week there!) Birthday gift from her boyfriend's parents. (Long ways from Little Rock!) She raved about Fleming and was still in bliss!!!

Gratitude all around~~

~ yesterday confirmed that I will have available resources by end of year to spend Amrita's (Dec 30), Adelaida's (Jan 30) AND my birthday (Feb 23) with them in South America! It will be my god daughter's 13th! and the first one I've spent with her since, subsequent to her birth, I always traveled there in the spring-summer (Kathy, where is this +11 hr. flight to???)

~ an amazingly beautiful letter from an inmate friend

~ looking forward to book club planning meet-up at Sandra's tonight

~ details coming together on road trip to the ashram and my service there in May

~ just sent in a reference letter to the ashram last night for my friend who has applied for the work-study program there and I got Sandra's stamp of approval on the content beforehand

Blessed be,
xox

TWINSFITBY40 hope the new ways to deal with your pain are a big success and you are able to exercise! Luvvvvv working with a trainer, glad you started with one AT, hope it goes well.

Today I am thankful for:
*having my music so easily available in so many ways. I woke up with a Snow Patrol song in my head, ‘Set the Fire to the Third Bar.’ When I set down at the computer to get ready for the day, I pulled up the song and played it and as I left I had my phone playing the rest of the album.
*working on site, doing some good training of folks, and soaking up some rays.
*seeing the therapeutic massage guy and my chiropractor this afternoon.
*getting a large amount of receivables in.
*seeing a nice planting of Mazus reptans on site, and a nice planting of Mazus reptans (blue) and Mazus reptans alba (white) back at the house. It’s a nice small groundcover that has a flower that lays flat on top of the foliage- shot some photos Maha will post.

Hmmmm....can't find my yesterday's post (That's ok, cuz it was kind of depressing...)
So today, I celebrate by giving thanks for
* Stepping back and adjusting perspective
* Using compassion exercises to root out pain related to certain relationships
* Starting with a personal trainer
* LONG luxurious breakfast with best friend today....catching up on EVERYTHING!
* Health issues stabilized.
* Sleeping pills ordered (Which I have only used like 3 times in my entire life!) for 11.5 hour economy flight on a full plane (I LOVE my doctor. He really "gets" me)
* Rain, glorious rain, Gentle and Lov-e-ly (SIng to the tune of Food, Glorious Food from "Oliver")
