Tonight, I am grateful for:

-LessBigBob and Happy Destiny both in one day!! They both make me smile
-Leftovers from our wonderful meal out last night (half it and you can have it), just wishing we had another chocolate souffle to split :-)
-An excellent massage today, putting me right in gear to return to work after my 30-day sabbatical
-Play time with the kitties
-A wonderful job for a great company that gave me the chance to relax and rejuvenate; I saw SO MUCH beauty in my 30 days off and I am ever so grateful - mountains, rivers, desert, rain, rainbow, snow, elk, clouds, fog, just lots of nature, which I love

Goodnight all ...

Hiiiiii-dy Ho neighbors! Sorry to have been away yet again. I had a number of probs running consecutively for the last couple of months- falling, and 2nd injury to my head, lead foreman wrapping up working for me, brother-in-law’s health turning for worse and passing. I handled each thing well outwardly, but not so well inwardly.

Today I am thankful for:

*posting again on Spark
*my new single debauched lifestyle- until Wednesday.
*no pain pills this weekend- all moderate so far.
*Alabama beating Tennessee- otherwise the crews would taunt me.
*scraping off the cheese at lunch, and only a 1/3 of the chips eaten!

*coming up with a super healthy breakfast at Waffle House, and my new friend there, who is nice but wayyyyyy yakky. I was worried I would have to stop and get more to eat, because my breakfast was so light, but by the time he stopped talking, I felt full and didn’t need to stop.

take care, bob

Today, I am grateful for:

-A very lazy day of doing nothing, quite intentionally
-Coming home in time to have a few of those kinds of days before going back to my work Monday
-My incredible company that gave me a 30-day sabbatical; and may I work there long enough to see two more of them before retiring!!! (first sabbatical in 7 years, then every 5 years thereafter). What an incredible and rare benefit in the corporate world
-Maha letting me distract her from homework for a short phone visit, especially to make sure her eye is doing better!!
-My comfortable home and bed; I am still VERY MUCH appreciating them after 9 days on the road in strange beds and surroundings
-A good night of rest last night as I also don't sleep particularly well in strange places
-SparkPeople partnering with FitBit, which I happened to have received as a gift from my partner and had not yet put to use; I will be doing so soon
-This practice and all of you who share what you're grateful for in life; readings your gratitude lists is every bit as nourishing to my soul as writing my own - thank you!

Thanks dear Sherrie.

I have decided, for the sake of eye health, to be off SP for awhile, my friends. I'm going to limit my computer activity to classwork to give it a rest.

Nothing that is worth doing can be achieved in our lifetime;
therefore, we must be saved by hope.
Nothing which is true or beautiful or good makes complete sense
in any immediate context of history;
therefore, we must be saved by faith.
Nothing we do, however virtuous, can be accomplished alone;
therefore we are saved by love.
-- Reinhold Niebuhr
(Excerpt from The Irony of American History,
cited in Leading from Within, ed. by S. M. Intrator and M. Scribner)

Good morning,

Happy to be in your company with much to be thankful for~~

~ *my* Poetry Man Joe Riley, in his tribute that accompanied the above offering this morning: "To honor the courage of Malala Yousafzai and thank her for the example she sets in resisting the darkness...."

~ the amazing talent that is Rufus Wainwright (in spite of his lack of big commerical success in the USA) and the best concert I've seen in years last night -- exceptional back-up instrumentation and voices (including talent Teddy Thompson)

~ the enjoyable company of a girlfriend to the concert and for treats afterwards

~ a scary "eye incident" last night which disturbed my sleep, thankfully apparently resolving this morning -- pulsing pain, neon red, and profuse watering

~ understanding that the universe is sending me a helpful, not-so-subtle message through this incident -- to lighten up on computer use

Blessed be,
xox

Appreciation of my blessings...

- meat loaf and mashd potatoes and peas, and a full freezer & shopping done for week
- 20% coupon for running store just when I need a long sleeve tech shirt
- my healthy strong sound horse
- 5:00 a.m. snuggles with my sweet sweet Gracie-dog to gently wake me up
- having the tools I need for baking and staying on schedule for weekend delivery
- perfect gently broken in and re-purposed lovely chair for living room to replace very very worn out and depressing one
- poop bag dispenser in park for when I get caught short! and all the parks and grassy areas on my run routes for Gracie to enjoy
- benefits of focusing on breathing
- all the people who take the time to blog about their riding, running, recipes etc...so that I and others may enjoy and learn
- as I watched video of my debut 5K race Sun I am reminded how thankful I am for all the people who showed up early in the morning and stood in the rain for hours to cheer all the runners and walkers on, and shout encouragement... whether they be full marathoners or 5K walkers - beautiful.

Thankful tonight....for so very much....
* That I found a way to get anxiety under control for major dental work....4 hours sleep and a full milligram of Xanax! (Dentist said it was the best he has ever seen me, in 20 years!)
* The glorious nap I took after my husband drove my jello body home from the appointment
* Experimental dinner of sweet potato latkes (not TOO bad, but back to basic sweet potato hash browns next time)
* Reading all your posts - and getting blessed by safe travels, appreciations of often unseen miracles, poetry and youtube videos
* My son's thoughtfulness, despite his incredibly busy schedule.
* Exceedingly beautiful emails from several new friends met on our last trip.

Today, I am grateful for:

-A solid night of sleep in my own bed at home
-The wonderful feeling of returning home after a trip and knowing that you can love both scenarios, being gone and being away
-Sharing pictures and small gifts with my partner
-Reading my partner an article about the filtered water at Arches National Park, where it comes from, how they share it with faucets throughout the park, then giving her a bottle of that water from an Eddie Bauer hiking pack she bought me years ago that has two reusable drinking bottles. I honestly don't know that I've ever had a drink of water before where my response was, "That was delicious," but this water did it for both of us. The article said that drinking the water was like having a peace of the desert with you. Pretty cool.
-Maha sharing additional information with my about Edward Abbey and his work and my anticipation at reading one of his books that I purchased
-My wonderful kitties, so glad to see me
-Four more days (including today) until I go back to work after my sabbatical
-Groupon-type, half-price deals for four things I've scheduled for the weekend prior to returning to work: manicure, pedicure, facial and a massage - doesn't get much better than that

Thankful...

- laughter! drive time dj's making my drive more tolerable and keeping my mind from going in counter-productive circles
- karma
- tuna
- having things to look forward to
- connecting to the idea that small measures of change of add up, have added up already and will continue to
- being reminded here of how much I enjoyed The Glass Castle (and the prequel - Half Broke Horses I think?)

This Thursday morning, I give thanks for ....

~ an almost clean apartment. So yesterday it was really wishful thinking, hoping to say it was so would motivate me to make it so. Alas, I procrastinated until the last minute. Book club tonight.

~ going to miss Maha tonight at book club while she goes to Rufus Wainright. But thankfully she will have a fun evening anyway.

~ a strong immune system (knock on wood)

~ my fan that stays on 24/7 providing moving air as well as comforting background noise, cheaper and less annoying than a white noise machine

~ scared, anxious and joyful about this new budding relationship. Thankful for the six months we knew each other as friends before dating.

~ morning coffee, love the aroma and the taste

~ this election will soon be history, hopefully with a desirable outcome. The British system is so much less painful to the electorate, only a couple of months of campaign ads.

~ as always, life, possibilities & choices.

Shine,
Sandra

Embrace relational uncertainty. It's called romance. Embrace spiritual uncertainty. It's called mystery. Embrace occupational uncertainty. It's called destiny. Embrace emotional uncertainty. It's called joy. Embrace intellectual uncertainty. It's called revelation.

Good morning,

I started feeling guilty yesterday evening that I was turning off the computer at 8:30pm to head to bed with a book without first posting gratitudes...and then I realized that the posting is simply frosting on the Gratitude Cake that I make and enjoy daily. Today I share gratitude for~~

~ embracing uncertainty

~ Cedar Rock Yoga ahead this morning

~ Rufus Wainwright tomorrow night with a girlfriend

~ grateful for Sandra's help Sunday and looking forward to her company, since I'm missing book club tomorrow night (and the discussion of a favorite book, Jeannette Wall's Glass Castle)

~ mapping out my day to be productive and efficient

~ butternut squash, kale and tofu prep on the list

Blessed be,
xox

Happy Wednesday! Feeling gratitude...

- little conversations that give me a little boost and bring a smile
- honey! local & fragrant
- musicians and the music they make and share, and the many ways it makes me feel
- this wave of energy bestowed upon me when I need it
- a sense of belonging, community
- learning to be in touch with my body and listening...and my body doing it's best to step up to the challenges I keep throwing at it!

Tuesday night gratitudes
* Just being home.
* A lovely drive "up the hill" to Lake Tahoe for the first time since we've moved here and realizing we are only a little more than an hour away!
* Autumn colors....and who says we don't have them here in California!
* Great visit with friends - seeing them so happy living out their dream
* My body violently rejecting something I knew I shouldn't have eaten - That will teach me NOT to listen to that quiet voice that says...no, don't do that...
* NOTHING, abosolutely NOTHING, on the agenda for tomorrow

Tonight I am grateful for:

-The amazing place that is Moab, Utah
-The truly sacred and spiritual place that is Arches National Park
-The incredible experience of being able to hike/rock scramble with a park ranger into the Fiery Furnace, what most of the rangers call "the heart of Arches."
-Anticipating a good read, "Desert Solitude," by Edward Abby, recommended by the park ranger
-Being able to scramble rocks, get through narrow ledges, get through rock passages with legs spread and flat-footed along each wall; I was proud of myself and it was the most incredible experience
-Getting to do this trek because of a last-minute cancellation as these hikes are booked weeks in advance
-This gratitude practice, that is now embedded deep inside me, as I know the true value of it

I'm spotty on posting, but will at least be back Thursday as I head home tomorrow.

Stephanie

Tuesday brings even more thankfulness!

- friends, and how they pop up at just the right time!
- for the clarity that suddenly, (or so it seems?) is dawning upon me
- being able to let my own horse say goodbye to her "love" last night
- laptops, and how they allow me to get stuff done in my comfy chair with one eye on the TV
- for the little space heater by my desk that keeps my toes cozy in the early morning
- for my sons help this morning in the kichen to get us out the door on time
- stumbling across the bauble that fell off my favorite earing so I can fix it
- realizing that my stress about being too busy is because I have many things to do that I enjoy and want to do!

Giving thanks this morning...

- kind words and being remembered by a dear friend
- almost not hating a photo of myself & having a great pic of my mom & I
- an invitation to a High Tea fund raising event, where I get wear a hat!

Late night gratitudes...
* Deep, deep sleep....
* Catch up emails with long distance friends
* Able to use restraint and stay calm in a volatile situation
* Plans for an over night get away to Lake Tahoe in the morning.
* Frozen home made YUMMY soup that took about 10 minutes to reheat!
* Maha spreading the word about Rebecca's blog today. PERFECT for me, and worthy of passing on to my hubby.

Today, I want to post here as I may not have another opportunity later on the road to Moab. I am so very grateful for:

-Following Maha today and waving a big hello
-Sherrie enjoying my Colorado posts
-Having to scrape my windshields this morning, but the snow flurries/rain have disappeared into an ASTOUNDING cool and crisp fall day in Telluride
-Starting my day with a 90-minute walk along the San Miguel River, meeting several friendly dogs who came along with their owners - this river walk then turns into national forest with spectacular views - what a way to start the day, before even going up on the mountain this afternoon
-All of the art galleries and great restaurants in this resort town of Telluride, but it's a down to earth resort town and I've really enjoyed it
-www.vrbo.com, that netted me a $59/night room in a town that is usually pretty expensive
-Aspens, aspens and more aspens - I am SO enjoying their shimmering gold beauty
-The female elk I saw on my gondola ride down the mountain yesterday
-Mother Nature, in all her glory
-This opportunity to see so much of nature - mountains, national forest, driving through Monarch Pass, crossing the Continental Divide, rivers running alongside small highways, now on to Moab and Arches/Canyonlands National Parks

Have an excellent day!!

Stephanie
