Today, this last day of September, I'm grateful for:

-My sister; as my bittersweet month ends, hers begins. We support each other strongly!
-The simple pleasure of sitting and reading a book
-Even better if you have a cat or two sitting with you purring
-Silence ... so calming to me, yet so rare (seems there's always a neighbor mowing or some such thing); I need to focus on the wee hours
-The many privileges I've grown up with
-A Facebook picture of Greta Thunberg and Jane Goodall; the connecting look between the two is touching and priceless, no words needed

Grateful for: a not as rainy day today, and a chance to get more things accomplished! And grateful for the woman who does my therapeutic massage. She's very good.

Thankful that: I didn't have to go outside and walk around in the rain with a friend (long story). It was pouring rain, thunder and lighting, really prefer not to be outside in those conditions! She agreed and we have a new target day.

Thankful for a good day with much accomplished. Recyling bins are nearly full, trash will go out tomorrow morning, and tomorrow, I WILL go to the YMCA. All things to be grateful for. :)

-Getting really good rest this week

-Maha getting to go on an another adventure! You're just full of adventure this year!
-Lovely dinner with friend who treated since I took care of her kitty for her
-Declining dessert tonight and being extra happy that the sugar treats at work are now done so my willpower muscle gets some rest! Ha!
-Working at home tomorrow so two roofers can come give me bids
-Play time with the kitty girls tonight; ball with Rosie and laser chase with the other two
-Finding out that Home Depot rents pickup trucks (though no reservations, first come, first serve); hoping I can rent one to pick up my new used furniture Saturday a.m.

Sitting in the airport grumbling to myself about the requirement to arrive so damned early...soooooo to counter balance that, I am taking time now to express gratitude~~

~ because walking for long distances takes a serious toll on my body, I ordered wheelchairs for the connecting flights after talking to world-traveller Kathy about it

~ Amazed at Kathy’s busyness – – selling her current home and moving into a new one!!!

~ Thoroughly enjoyed a Starbucks panini — sun-dried tomato, mozzarella, pesto

~ A small cappuccino was a perfect complement for the heated panini

~ looking forward to the week in Seattle with a friend that I haven’t seen for several years

Blessed be,
Maha

~ keeping the party simple -- serving a Costco spread

This morning I am grateful ~~

~ for the utter stillness of early morning

~ for tomorrow morning’s week-long getaway to visit a friend in Seattle

~ though the sciatica and back pain are acting up again, it seems to be mostly during the night only

~ learning about the efficacy of spinach, kale, collard, and turnip greens, along with special ARED eye vitamins, to help ward off the progression of macular degeneration (and allowing myself the luxury of using already cleaned organic spinach)

~ for last night’s kale tempeh sauté with soy sauce that was very tasty

~ ready for pranayama and meditation as I move into the day

Blessed be,
Maha

Hello, my TG friends. I apologize for posting so erratically the last few weeks. We have been swept away by the tsunami of our friend's early onset dementia. We have become her primary caregivers by default and the path forward is neither easy nor clear. But this is where we are -- and there is so much to do and so little time. We're trying to make up for three or so years of neglected tasks when she clearly was struggling but we didn't recognize what was going on until it became a crisis. But today I have taken some time to rest so I am here this Wednesday afternoon with much gratitude for ...

~ having a mostly clear mind and a relatively healthy body
~ continuing to progress in PT though neglecting exercises last 2 weeks
~ a harvest moon low in the sky these last few days
~ quiet darkness before dawn
~ first light before the sun rises
~ finishing a class last night and another tonight
~ brother's recovery
~ daughter's good news
~ son's confidence in me
~ all is well

~ though I'm nearing 78 and have increasing health challenges, I still manage to swing onto my bike and today I easily cruised for 1.25 hrs.

~ just finished Luis Alberto Urrea's The House of Broken Angels, having already enjoyed much of his fiction and non-fiction

~ though troubling, I feel relief that yesterday's eye exam explains why my visual acuity is flagging -- I need to also have the cataract removed from my right eye

Blessed be,
xox

Tonight I'm grateful for:

-My ThanksGiving friends, thanks for the birthday wishes!!
-Today is the day of Beth's birth, also being celebrated
-Amazing memories of our joint monthly celebrations together; nobody but Beth would plan a layover in Milan on our way home from Greece just to celebrate my special day
-Doing things today we would have done together: getting a relaxing pedicure, takeout from one of our favorite restaurants and toasting with a glass of wine
-Now a quiet evening at home with the kitties and so many fine memories
-My sister and dear friends who texted, called and sent me cards today because they know and they get it; I am so very fortunate

Have a lovely evening all -
Stephanie

grateful for: good travels to and from Pennsylvania camp. All was well, people were not driving crazy (I wasn't either!), and camp itself was good, although it started out with a scare when a husky came through a screen door.

for beautiful camp, and learning a lot. And that all went well at home despite my being gone (not always the case!)

An historic evening (Tuesday)! Capacity crowd (16,000 being seated) at Little Rocks Verizon Arena to hear the notorious AND most Honorable Ruth Bader Ginsburg! A friend and I made it through the line (with 100 heat index) without passing out from a heat stroke!

Here and grateful~~

~ still basking in the glow of RBG -- she spoke with NPR Legal Affairs Correspondent Nina Totenberg during the lecture after having been introduced by former President Bill Clinton, who had appointed her to the Supreme Court in 1993.

With the seemingly unending thunderous standing ovation, she finally put her arms up in surrender and gratitude. Evidently RBG and Nina Totenberg appear together frequently and the latter said it was their largest audience

~ reminded of the honor of being in the presence of another great woman -- as a 17 year old senior in high school and editor of the school newspaper, I was chosen to interview Eleanor Roosevelt on local (Redding, CA) TV in 1959!

~ about to head out on a short bike ride before the temp climbs to predicted high of 94 degrees and a likely heat index of over 100 degrees (it's 74 degrees nowj)

~ needing the healing qualities of tai cihi ahead today

~ meet with physical therapist today and hope to get insights regarding recurrent pain (wondering if being on my feet on the pavement for about an hour Tuesday with the 100 heat index has something to do with it?)

Blessed be,
Maha

-for the evening alone to mull over a surprising insight
-the nearby fire has been mostly contained

Tonight I'm grateful for:

-Feeling like I could work out again tonight without a relapse of this summer cold!!
-Getting a load of laundry done tonight
-Helping out my friend who's in IL with her mom in the hospital
-Weekly trash/recycling all prepped and ready to get out in the a.m. for me and neighbors
-Yummy goodies in my CSA bag today: cherry and slicer tomatoes, potatoes, onions, green beans, zucchini, eggs and apples
-My kitty girls being so bug-eyed when I do a power walk video; it's so funny (and cute, did I mention cute)

Goodnight all,
Stephanie

~ reconciling with a brother after a misunderstanding that hurt both of us

-for a relaxed day in out of the heat just reading and thinking

SO many things to be grateful for!

As we start a new month, we have another clean slate. Let’s fill it with our gratitudes!
