BTW, big hug to you “down there” Sandra.

And Bob, I love too Johnny Clegg and Savuka. Like you I’ve been listening to them for many years.

OK Bob, here goes. A different kind of post (for me). Today, I give thanks for ...

~ the book I've almost finished -- Holy Envy by Barbara Brown Taylor, who teaches (or taught) world religions at Piedmont College. In it she talks about the insights she's gained about her own religion (Episcopalian) from teaching (and interacting with) people whose religions are different than hers. Holy Envy is basically -- the grass is greener on the other side. It's a thought provoking book (as all her books are) and I am grateful for the stranger who lent it to me.

~ I've been struggling with spirituality/religion my entire adult life. I grew up liberal Lutheran and have dabbled since -- Judaism, Theravada Buddhism, Catholic, Episcopalian, Methodist, United Church of Christ and Disciples of Christ -- and never felt like I belonged anywhere but wanting a spiritual community. Yesterday, I had coffee with a friend/Episcopal priest. It was enlightening and also thought-provoking for which I am grateful. Look forward to continuing the conversation..

Sweetie & I had a long discussion about gratitude this morning. She asked if I notice things to be grateful for in the moment or realize later that I am grateful. It's a mixed bag. What I have realized being on this thread for 10 years November 9 -- is that what I feel most grateful for are relationships. That's a good thing to know.

All's well ....and thanks Bob for the encouragement.

Shine,
Sandra

Yikes TMB !!! Too much Bob! Come on people we need more sane posters!

Today I am thankful for:

a wonderful portrayal of different people on a show. Ive been watching a show A-Typical because I heard how interesting/well done its portrayal of an Autistic person was. It is well done, and fascinating to watch how his brain works, how he perceives the world and interacts with people. I am really thankful to have a better understanding of Autism and to see a different perspective of the world than I have.

Also, this year particularly towards the end of the season, his sister has a lesbian relationship. After watching it, I realized the guy she had been with was wonderful, sensitive, supportive, etc. and her father is also. So her choice was not because of the stereotypical abusive, cruel male in her life (it is sadly often true, but not always,). It was shown to be a hard, and confusing choice because both parties were good people, she cared for and it just came down to her gut as to who was right for her. I also loved her challenged brother saw her relationship so clearly and simply, without preconceptions! Particularly refreshing in these divisive times.Well done!!! Give it a watch! On Netflix.

2ndly, a wonderful YouTube video! There is a fascinating YouTube video interview of Hanna Gadsby, on a Swedish talk show. Full disclosure, I am a huge fan of hers! She speaks of her fairly recent diagnosis of Autism. What a fascinating mind and perspective of the world she has! So, articulate and thoughtful! She has really won me over with her honesty and her wonderful dry wit (luvvv her wit)! She had me at Good day!

Have a great weekend! Bob

Today I am thankful for:

getting up and going this morning.

having breakfast with my wife. She has been waking up way earlier since retiring, so I see her in the mornings, unlike the previous years when she worked.

going to a site I hadnt been to in two months. Only a few hours, but loved being in the beautiful church garden weve made.

Johnny Clegg and Savuka! When I got back to the office, I thought to put on some music that was upbeat when I came in to the office, and even with my huge collection, I couldnt think of anything, then Alexa play Johnny Clegg and I was smiling and dancing in my mind! Ive loved his music since the mid-80s and all his amazing work in South Africa!

being able to go see my Dr. that works on my back and knee. I am dreading it, because 2 of the procedures dont seem to be working. But, I do have insurance and I can see him, and I really am thankful for that.

I hope everyone is well! bob

Today, and the last few days I am thankful for:

voting with my wife Tuesday. She was quite older, when we met, and knew the importance of voting and we got into the habit of voting together in every election.

I found my lost left side Power Beats Pro!!! Now if I can just find the entire second set I loss!

I went to the job site yesterday for a few hours!!! Did some training, and designing- yum!

waking up yesterday and not feeling any pain!!! It was wonderful! I cant remember a time this happened. I immediately thought dont move something will hurt..ok good.good.crap! I have to pee. Oh well, it was amazing for a few moments!

my sister-in-law coming over and helping my wife clean all the windows in the house. My wife was so pleased and pumped to get this done.

I hope everyone is well! bob

Today, and the last few days I am thankful for:

being able to get out of bed and function, the last few days, despite the gloom, ney despair, after the debacle of the great Euphorbia crisis of 2019!

The Kanopy app! This is a local library movie's app (iOS), and all movies are free. We watched some really great movies lately, and I have been watching a few of the Great Courses series- Weight loss, Depression, and Gardening. Not the latest greatest shows, but very interesting.
I also have apps for books, audiobooks, and magazines from the library. Check it out.

no work on Sunday and last Sunday!!! I usually do some work every day, so these have been great!

going out to a site for an hour Monday and working with the guys at the nursery in the afternoon! I really enjoyed it!

excellent video on the new photos app on two different YouTube feeds. I found out about some cool things I didnt know about! Yay learning!

my Mother for installing a love of learning in me!

I hope everyone is well! bob

On this last day of October, Day of the Dead, I'm grateful for:

-Living so close to my office (10-15 minutes drive time) as we had snow and some ice through the night
-Remembering and celebrating those who have gone before me, too many to name them all, but of course, my beloved Beth at the top of my mind, still with me in spirit, I know
-Getting my small exercise goals for today met, hoping to complete one more this evening
-Reaching my monthly goal of 8 visits to our workout facility downstairs in October and setting that same minimum for November
-The movie "Harriet," a documentary about Harriet Tubman that looks to be excellent, opens tomorrow at our fine arts theatre

Have a safe and lovely evening all -
Stephanie

Thanks for thinking of us, Stephanie!
grateful
-to be well away from current fires
-to have power back, at least for part of today
-for warmth on a freezing morning
-to use the furnace instead of building another asthma-unfriendly fire in the stove
-M and others made a good dent in clearing our street of mountains of tree debris and limbs after the tremendous wind
-to be walking some distance every day, most of the time happily
-for wonderful sleep, waking comfortable and refreshed

Tonight I'm grateful for:

-A quiet day working at home, extra time to spend with the kitty girls!
-Remembering a dinner I scheduled tonight just in time to still get there (whew!); I would have felt terrible if I'd completely forgotten
-My family's continued safety in the fires; hoping that Ann and her family have power soon AND no fires near
-Calling my cousin (who just lost her mother) to check in and offer support
-Apparently, we're nearing time for me to get my magic winter coat out again (temps of 36 out there and nearly sleet conditions)
-Snuggling in on my comfortable bed with the kitty girls next, a good book and the heating pad

Goodnight all,
Stephanie

Tonight I'm grateful for:

-A slow, easy day of taking it pretty easy after a very poor night of rest
-Listening to the "Music for Cats" CD dear friend sent the kitty girls; quite interesting, put together after scientific research and I enjoyed it a lot myself; it seemed to be calming for all four of us!
-Going to see the movie "Judy," the story of Judy Garland, that's been on my list for awhile; Renee Zellweger gave an amazing performance
-Feeling so comfortable going to movies, restaurants and other places alone
-My comfortable bed and heating pad, where I hope to go to sleep a bit early

Goodnight all,
Stephanie

Feeling grateful~~

~ Happy to be reminded (psychically) by Stephanie of taking time to be here

~ An important dislogue with a good friend today

~ Beginning The Beekeeper's Apprentice, the first book of an interesting detective series by Laurie R. King -- the Mary Russell series of historical mysteries, featuring Sherlock Holmes as her mentor and later partner

~ Went with a friend to see Downton Abbey, banal, but enjoyable.

~ Made a simple lentil-kale stew with brown rice, which turned out very tasty

Steph, Ill do your pre-post post anytime! Yay kitties! Well, I was feeling good that I wrote so little until I saw I was following a 5 emoji post.

Today I am thankful for:

my big ole cat, for keeping me company last night! I needed it. He just climbs up on me, while Im watching my iPad on my side, and eases down for some head-scratching (make yourself at home). Then he gets up turns around and sleeps on my side for an hour or two usually. Thank goodness he got up when he did! I was really worried Id wet the bed if he didnt get up soon..yes Im whupped by him too!

watching my comfort show last night after a hard day- 'Grey's Anatomy'- while the cat was snoring. All good, until the end- ahhhhh Meredith in the slammer!!! Guess she'll be breaking rocks next week! Richard, step away from that woman!

our beautiful big Fall Camellia getting its bloom on! Such a beautiful sight for weeks to come!

getting my Zen comfort music on when your rooster crowed at the break of dawn with Brother Bob (Dylan). It was really nice since Im on the dark side of the road.

passing up two trigger foods at different stores this morning. White knuckle shopping!

game day this morning. I really like shows with a group of people/panel. It makes office work less lonely.

Fare thee well Bob

Woo Hoo - I'm tailing Bob today ... move it, buddy, move it!!! (and you did, good on ya!!)

On this Friday afternoon, I'm grateful for:

-How I try to deal with worry these days, by working out (sure does help)
-My family's continued safety through the fires; people very near my mother & stepfather have had to evacuate and I'm happy my mother has "go bags" ready
-Going for a brisk 35-minute walk at lunch in the sunshine
-Disappearing to the gym this afternoon during part of the trick-or-treating stuff we put together for the kids of my company and doing some strength training (also kept me away from candy!)
-Getting the sugar back under control in the matter of a few days
-Two movies I want to see at the Fine Arts Theatre near me, might be a good diversion tonight

Have a great evening all -
Stephanie

Today I am thankful for:

Glorious day! On Tuesday!

Hearts-a-bustin on the Hillside! They are a bustin! Beautiful red fruit! Wonderful native plant- a Euonymus actually.

back to work-out! I did make it Tuesday. It had been 6+ months since my pain level was good enough to work-out. I was glad to breathe hard and to do the exercises once I figured out my notes- settings, weight, reps. Yay drinking a lot of water while working out! I had started getting sick again before we left and it made the last cycling really hard. Im so worn down by illnesses.

being my own boss, so I dont fire my behind for missing so much work.

watching a nice vid on what my type of depression actually is, how it manifests, affects the brain, etc. In my many years of therapy, I never had the diagnosis stated and explained. I rather like knowing more about it and look forward to more videos.

getting up and going this morning on time. I was not feeling well and the depression was super strong. Not super focused, but I worked a full day. Its enough for today.

more rain! We have a lot to make up.

I hope all of you are well! Bob

Tonight I'm grateful for:

-Putting together a plan to try and avoid all the trick-or-treaters and BOATLOADS of candy that will be at the office tomorrow (hoping to disappear downstairs to the gym)
-My cousin, who was able to take care of her mother until the end, with some help, while working full-time (it went quickly, Alzheimer's & metastatic cancer); I just visited them in May
-Having what I hope is self-compassion tonight, rather than an excuse; I just don't feel like worrying about steps or working out
-Awareness and mindfulness
-These amazingly sweet kitties I live with; we're going to snuggle up and watch some TV tonight
-The last of the lima bean soup for dinner, healthy and nourishing on a chilly fall night

Goodnight all,
Stephanie

Today I'm grateful for:

-Another new author/poet to explore; bowing in gratitude here to Ann
-A lovely walk in the park behind my building at lunch on a sunny, cool, fall day
-Being hit on the head by a leaf & then a small branch; no injury, just giggles (it wasn't an acorn!)
-Rosie (finally) picking another toy to fetch instead of her nasty old little puffy ball; I've tried and tried other toys, this one is NOTHING like her ball, go figure - but goodbye germs - yay!
-Dinner plans tonight with a friend not seen since Beth's memorial (my fault, I've had "group" invites that I didn't want to do), at my favorite Italian joint right down the street from my office
-The mini-bean salad I put together at lunch today off the salad bar: chickpeas, black beans, edamame, red onion, quinoa and a touch of balsamic vinaigrette - I might do this more often!

Have a lovely day all -
Stephanie

Today I am thankful for:

our new hire doing really well!

a talk with my niece. She is having a hard time, and it seemed to help her talking to me.

doing well with snacking today, or the lack there of.

seeing a vid by my legislator hero Katie Porter! I remember after seeing my first one it totally renewed my faith in government. She is so prepared always, and asks questions and clarifies points that are so clear, and about things that really matter to people!

seeing a young couple of women that were so much in love on a YouTube channel Skip Deep on a segment {THE AND}. They had so much chemistry and joy. It gives an old romantic a boost!

take care! bob

-Having a delightful fall weekend before the weather changed (temporarily, I hope)
-Deciding to take the night off tonight from exercise as I did a lot over the weekend
-The new cat mystery I started over the weekend that's calling me tonight
-Leftover soup, salad and bread to make a delicious dinner, fitting for a cool, rainy evening
-Tracking my food, which made me very aware that too much sugar had been creeping up on me again, followed by no sugar yesterday or today
-Sweet, sweet kitties I live with

Goodnight all,

Not feeling terribly thankful today... which probably means I need to give thanks for some things.... LOL.

Thankful that : today is relatively calm. And that I can make soup with lots of good veggies in it. that Rosy is recovered from yesterday, which turned out harder than expected. And that I learned a lot.

Total Doe envy Steph!!!

Today I'm thankful for:

getting a bit of deep sleep Friday night! (belated thanks). I have terrible deep sleep numbers, which concerns me, so I was glad to see an improved amount.

rain! Friday night, little Sat., and scheduled Monday night!!! Pretty desperate down here.

John McCutcheon's concert! Wowzer! I just knew of his masterful hammer dulcimer playing (1978 album), but he does so much more. He would tell these great little stories about each piece and then sing his wonderful folk songs and songs of his good friend Pete Seeger! He seamlessly moved between multiple guitars, piano, auto harp, fiddle, mandolin and hammer dulcimer. Catch him if you can!

surviving the folding chairs at the concert!!! Ouchy, can a brotha' get a butt massage?

sleep Sunday's! I rarely do anything on Sunday but catch up on lost sleep. I wasn't totally guano faced as usual, but was pretty out of it. I wish I didn't sleep so badly all week, but I'm thankful for catching up what I can,

take care! bob

On this Sunday evening, I'm grateful for:

-My Friday goal being achieved; I wanted my walks this weekend to be one day at the zoo, the next day at the Arboretum and the weather cooperated perfectly
-Dear friend who brought homemade toys for the kitty girls and we spent time playing with them
-A lovely hike at the Arboretum this afternoon, coming upon a big doe less than 10 feet away who didn't run (they're used to hikers in the woods, though I've never been that close before)
-Doing my strength training routine out on the deck while listening to the waterfall from the ponds, though I feared an acorn landing on me as they were falling all around me
-Long, hot showers; such a luxury
-A quiet Sunday night at home with the girls preparing for the work week

Have a great evening all -
Stephanie

Tonight I'm grateful for:

-A lovely fall afternoon at the zoo!
-Lots of walking, but also very peaceful boat and gondola/sky tram rides
-My love of soup; thanks to my soup trade with a friend, I could have one kind for lunch and a different soup for dinner (with a big salad)
-Taking advantage of every fall opportunity I can to see the leaves changing; such a beautiful city I live in with so many trees!
-Making plans with a friend, weather-dependent, on hiking at Weston Bend State Park next Saturday (they have a hike up to the bluffs over the Missouri River with a spectacular view)
-Lots of special kitty time this morning AND tonight

Sweet dreams to all -

Today I am thankful for:

my Powerbeats Pro Bluetooth ear phones. I was pushing between head tall shrubs yesterday and suddenly realized my podcast wasn't playing. I had a sick feeling I'd lost the ear phone, but no right there on my ears. They are great, never fall out, sweat resistant, and sound great. I can't wait to work out with them.

Twin Peaks soundtracks. Year 1, Year 2, Movie. Beautiful music and it triggers the relaxation response in me. I watched the DVD of it after work each day at a relaxing time and a period that was very relaxed for me.

rain today! Not much, but yay!

Alabama's ex Quarterback playing for Oklahoma on the early game most of this season and then seeing the Righteous Horde, The Chosen on High- The Alabama Crimson Tide after. A religious experience! It’s double Bama time!

seeing John McCutcheon right now at a lovely old church that is an arts center now. I am anxious to see if he sounds different from what he did on the last album I bought....1978?

doing some invoicing I was anxious about.

take care! bob

Yay Steph sleep! Thx howdy! Yay Sandra sleep!

Today I am thankful for:

1st long underwear bottoms day!!! Jeans day was great, but hello wow! Yes, Im a fashion rebel and broke the rule- no long underwear before Halloween. My legs love them because it keeps them warm and makes the knee brace more comfortable. Luv them!

working a day on site!!! It went well, though a bit tired at the end. I was then able to work in the office in the afternoon and was so pleased to work a full day.

seeing something I never have. Ok, its a type of virus on the wrong type of plant, but its always exciting to me to see something new.

my wife keeping up with her old work buddies since she has retired. I was concerned because shes not very proactive, but has done well. She is going out for drinks tonight and is so excited to see her friend.

Greys Anatomy on the big screen!!! Too chick for my wife, so I watch it on my own on my iPad usually.

I hope all of you are well! Bob

being able to help a friend, who is going through a hard time... it was simple... sit and listen. Wish I could do more for her, but sometimes listening is the best thing to do.

for wonderful parents. Yes, they can be exasperating, but they so appreciate what I do, and put up with me being (occasionally) grumpy. they are wonderful and I am lucky to hvae them in my life.

Bob - I DID have a great sleep, thank you! So good to see you here again!

This morning I'm grateful for:

-A solid night of sleep after a rocky start (unusual for me)
-Morning kitty treat rituals, such a great way to start the day!
-A lovely walk in the city park behind my building that has a walking loop, complete with the most famous fountain in Kansas City, on an amazing fall day
-Friday! For some reason, it's been a long week and I'm ready for extra R&R
-Lunch plans with retired co-worker not seen since spring
-A nice long Cassie talk this morning, apparently I speak her language adequately
-Meeting a friend at our favorite pizza place for a birthday celebration (free pizzas, I'm September/she's October) and my fav: white pizza, with olive oil, fresh mozzarella, whole cloves of roasted garlic, spinach and pine nuts - THE BEST

Have a great day all - hope everybody is doing well -

Stephanie

Grateful for: the BIG project is done! And my marvelous parents when I showed them the half garage I had cleared, promptly jumped in to do the polishing of the project and did a BEAUTIFUL job of sweeping it out. Looks so nice and tidy. Beautiful to have my sister's car in the garage. She won't have to scrape her car off every morning during the winter and can get in (dry!) straight from the house. So nice! So much to be grateful for today. And yes, she was VERY pleased and surprised.

Yay more greetings!!! Thank You!

Today I am thankful for:

a better day with my lower mid-back- the last area treated.

cool enough for regular jeans!!! Woo hoo! A definitely rugged look!

For all the work Congressman Elijah Cummings did for the US. He is one of our last legislators with a connection back to Dr. King and his aspirations for all Americans to live in harmony.

my sister-in-law finding a house (ok making an offer) after her Dream House fell through. It is great for her and my dear wife who is about house hunted out.

putting me in the on-site schedule for tomorrow!!! The first time in a long time. I am hoping for a out, then back to the office. I also cant wait until I can go back to the Gym. Its been 6 mos. since I could, I am hoping for next Friday.

making a new hire of a nice young man. It has gotten harder every year to find people, and I was pleased he came in. We have a young woman coming in tomorrow, that sounds good??? Fingers crossed! Well see

Keep hope alive! Bob

Today I am thankful for:

a little rain today. Ok only .75, but its the first in a very long time. My crews are sooooo tired of watering! Im afraid running naked through it, might have been a tad over the top!

a bad pain day, but I got some things done, and didnt push too much and rested.

my wonderful Tempur-Pedic Bed!!! As much as I hate being laid up, I really am thankful for such a good place to recover.

going to the office for the first time in 6 weeks!!! Unbelievably I overslept and was late, for the two interviews I had set up. I cant remember oversleeping, I dont set an alarm, because I always wake early..ok almost never.

super thankful for not stopping to get energy bars- healthy, but calories, and then drove to get breakfast and skipped it- good as you can get eating out, but sodium, added sugar, etc. and drove home to eat. Yay!

I hope all of you are well! Bob
