grateful
-to look back on a month full of appreciation
-far away J and little H were not hurt when rear-ended at freeway speed
-her choice of new car provided incredible protection
-for our family Thanksgiving meal tonight, even though some of us were stressed
-they safely navigated the mountain highway in heavy rain, between multi-car accidents
-to feel so tired that sleep seems a good bet

Tonight, on this last night of November, I'm grateful for:

-The whispering winds, floating the soft, melancholy melodies of the Native flute through the trees; my favorite part of this event
-Luminaries everywhere, tiny slivers of light sparkling in the darkness of the woods
-Many kind people who thanked me for my work and explained to their kids what candle lighters do
-High school kids assigned to my candle lighting, re-lighting and snuffing teams who couldn't keep up with me; what a huge compliment when they asked if I realized I walked insanely fast
--A noticeable difference this year in how I feel after walking almost 20,000 steps in 4-5 hours; carrying 25 fewer pounds makes it much easier
-Coming home to my sweet kitties, always happy to see me
-Taking care of this amazing body of mine properly by doing a fair amount of stretching
-My soft, comfortable bed and big hopes of a wonderful night of sleep

Goodnight all - I wish sweet dreams for all of us -

Stephanie

Grateful—

- For this unique and wonderful community (even though the ads and site glitches get the best of me sometimes, which is why I have disappeared for a few days,..and almost went away just now again when my post took the backseat to an advertisement and I couldn’t retrieve it)

- For Ann’s beautiful and sensitive heart

- For the latest Ken Burns documentary, Country Music, which I am immensely enjoying. I must admit I have nothing but distain for country music but I’m finding the unfolding story fascinating (8 discs, about 16 hours)

- I previously LOVED the same treatment of jazz by Ken Burns and feel so fortunate to have access to the Faulkner County Library, which makes such a wonderful resources available.

- For the especially delicious pan of cornbread that I made using Masa Harina from Bob’s red Mill and served with freshly cooked pinto bean soup and a big green salad.

Blessed be,
Maha

On this Thanksgiving evening, I'm grateful for:

-This place, the more-than-perfect place to be on this day! So important that gratitude is a part of my daily practice and not just on Thanksgiving
-Making myself a delicious pumpkin smoothie in place of pumpkin pie; it was good, but I plan to perfect it ... more to come
-The right decision to stay home and off the roads; had a delightful day cooking myself a lovely meal
-Thinking to myself, "I can't imagine Beth not having a meat thermometer" (as I was cooking a small turkey breast, first in many, many moons) - opened the right drawer, and there was Beth's meat thermometer, I honestly didn't even know it was there, have never used it - I just smiled
-Making mashed potatoes just the way I LIKE them!! Ha!
-My beloved Luminary Walk at the Arboretum starts tomorrow; Friday night I go with friends, Saturday afternoon/evening I will volunteer
-These precious kitty girls of mine

Goodnight all - I hope you are safe and warm with a full belly in the midst of whatever makes you happy

Tonight I'm grateful for:

-Living through the multitude of acorn attacks through the night with the high winds and five old oak trees on my lots; scared both the kitties and me, waking us all out of sleep many times
-A friend treating me to a lovely surprise dinner
-Getting through feeling overwhelmed by simplifying
-Changing my Thanksgiving day plans, staying home and taking a rest day (self-care) doing only what I feel like doing
-Getting off work early today and having extra play time with the kitties
-My soft bed that I think will be much softer tonight because there's no sign of acorn attacks! Ha!

Goodnight all,
Stephanie

Grateful for a peaceful day, and for a chance to minister to Mom. Also grateful for fun and laughter.

Loving this quote:

Thankfulness is far more than the key that tenderly and rather gracefully unshackles me from all that binds me. Rather, it is in fact the sledgehammer that shatters the shackles. And thats the best kind of key I can think of.

Tonight I'm grateful for:

-Getting my gift shopping done for the little one I adopted through the Salvation Army angel program; hoping to be able to adopt one more before the season is over
-Arboretum Luminary Walk starts this weekend ... lots of walking, candle lighting and candle snuffing for me in the midst of so many kinds of beauty
-Trash is out to the curb for me and my elderly neighbors before the predicted rain and/or winds
-Making Sunday plans with a friend to get her birthday gift to her (Leonard Cohen's latest release, "Thanks for the Dance," produced by his son, Adam posthumously)
-My own copy of the same; true Cohen, all the way - I love it, though it's definitely got its prophetic and eloquent sadness to it
-A soft, warm bed under a solid roof to shelter me and three little kitties from the storms and the winter

Goodnight all,

Grateful for having the energy to do all the errands this a.m. Got a lot done, and am grateful for that. Got my glasses adjusted... so grateful for that and for clean glasses! They do a much better job than I ever do. :)

Loving this quote, thought it was worth sharing here:

As the years pass, I am coming more and more to understand that it is the common, everyday blessings of our common everyday lives for which we should be particularly grateful. They are the things that fill our lives with comfort and our hearts with gladness -- just the pure air to breathe and the strength to breath it; just warmth and shelter and home folks; just plain food that gives us strength; the bright sunshine on a cold day; and a cool breeze when the day is warm.

Grateful: for having both parents still... I have friends who lost a parent or their parents before they were teenagers or before 20, and it is a loss that haunts them still. I have a friend who just lost her father a week ago, and she is still wandering around the house they shared, unable to do anything or to settle. Poor woman.... I pray for peace for her and some healing in all the sorrow. Such a hard loss. And so, I am grateful to have both of my parents still here and still telling stories about their lives... so very grateful.

Dang! I posted yesterday evening and upon looking at the page this morning, I see it’s not there. I had specifically expressed concern about your pain and swelling, Sandra and I’m glad you’ve found a bit of relief overnight. I also indicated that I had cruised the river meditation – – I saw it online, but that for me The link with your Friday gratitudes didn’t work.

This morning I’m grateful -–

- for successfully completing the Thai vegetable curry yesterday which was, with all the cutting and chopping, quite labor-intensive.

- because of the large quantity, I had some for dinner and it’s quite tasty, although it’s missing something which I hope to correct before this evening

– Bob’s red Mill hot cereal for breakfast yesterday and today, made with raisins, walnuts, and raspberries and with banana, yogurt, and a bit of maple syrup added at the end

- enjoying a soak in the tub as I write this; I have a platform that I put across the tub for drinks and books and cereal, etc. lol

- looking forward to making a card to take to the friend’s birthday gathering this evening, as well as some favorite poetry and a book by Angeles Arrien, The Second Half of Life: Opening the Eight Gates of Wisdom

Blessed be,
Maha

Can not believe how much fun November has been and how much has happened. Busy busy! But glad to be busy and happy about what we've achieved. And today, I managed to clean off a shelf in the pantry. We are reorganizing (as always!) and the kitchen is starting to look better. Grateful that we were able to donate/give a mixer to a dear relative who needed an updated one. We had an extra (and brand new one) that's been around for over 12 years so everyone's happy. And I'm thrilled we have more space in the basement. :) Small things make me very happy.... looking forward to the Thanksgiving dinner that is coming up. Our turkey is defrosting nicely... lucky to be able to buy one and use it! And this year, Mom is not in the hospital. SO grateful for that.

No, I havent been lost in the wrong month, just tied up the last few days.

Today I am thankful for:

having my last Nerve ablation procedure over (for a year)- 10 procedures overall- 5 injections, 5 ablations. I had my knee done yesterday. Fingers crossed!

my foreman keeping things on track when Im out!! He has been very stable and positive, through-out my many days out this year! Also yay cell phones! He sends me px of questions and I can write, or draw what to do and get things done!

foliage drives with my sweetie! Overall blah foliage year here, but some great individual trees- ooh! ahh!

listening to my fun playlist this morning! Rare I listen to it, but it was really enjoyable. The only album on the list is the Putamayo Presents World Playground, if you get a chance, give it a listen!

getting to see Lewis Black this evening. Its at a wonderful old theater with amazing acoustics. I just now wish I hadnt gotten tickets way up in the balcony, a lot of steps!

take care, bob

OK! Now that I've caught up with all of the "in" crowd's November posts, here we all are together!! emoticon

Tonight, I'm grateful for:

-Being able to see the screen and do my gratitude list, despite eyes being dilated
-While on the topic of dilation, love my eye doc and the care he provides; the change in my eyes is so little this time (for 2 years now) that he didn't think I needed to even bother with the cost of new bifocals
-Still having my mother around on her 77th birthday to call and sing a song to, as well as sending her unwavering favorite gift, a Barnes & Noble gift cert (for $77 - Ha!)
-My mother instilling a delight in reading; I had an "open" library as a kid and she had walls lined with bookshelves/books, but little did she know her 12-year-old girl was reading "The Devil In Miss Jones" (porn) - emoticon (I got totally lost in the Civil War with "Gone With The Wind" at age 8); let's just say I've always had diverse reading interests
-My neighbors on my cul-de-sac are the best - I organized and we all went together and got an impressive bulky item pickup put together for the City tomorrow morning
-Lots more clearing and decluttering, the above being a BIG piece of forward movement
-This week being my 15th work anniversary and my department will celebrate with me tomorrow afternoon (surprise special treats, but something pumpkin, at my request); it will be interesting to see if I'm there for my 20th ...

Have a great night all -
Stephanie

You have heard of being fashionably late Obviously the In crowd has been chillin in October until it was time for our November debut!

AT, I'll for sure check out the video. I'm so glad your father is in such good shape at his age! I hope he lives many more years!!! My father was 97 when he passed and a WWII veteran and they certainly were the greatest generation.

Today I am thankful for:

getting up not feeling too bad! Yippee! Ok, my standard is a bit low, but it was nice. Not too tired, not too sore.

amazingly some gorgeous fall colors! A number of Sugar Maples were still looking great even after our bleeeeezzzzurd (), wind and super cold temps. The fall color has been pretty bad, but the dogwoods, sourwoods, and my Sugars are doing great! My canopy of Red Maples at our old house was a glorious yellow this afternoon (Red Maples turn Yellow. There name is due to there flowers in spring.)

going out to the site today. We were at my fav. Site, a large Episcopal Church. Training today was on winter/cold dieback, and I must say was fascinating- it helps to pay the audience. As I was leaving I realized my knee had done well!! Yay!

the total fashion piece of resistance! Thermal pants and long johns! And hello, total bonus- all in earth tones! Yummy!

Linkin Park playlist. Ive always loved the lyrics, the sound and of course Chesters screams!!

the Marlboro man. Not a joke, but a fond farewell! The man the campaign was based on passed last week at 90. I never have smoked, but grew up loving westerns and manly men.

take care, bob

Grateful today for
* My dad, at almost 98 years old, he is still amazing! Cognitively intact, physically stable, and a rock/role model/inspiration for our entire family!
* Having just spent a week with him, and being able to witness an incredibly moving ceremony at his facility. All veterans (several from WWII) were honored, and my dad kicked off the event with his "recitation".

* For safe travels.
* For the joy I feel when I look at the faces of the Burmese people i photographed.
* For my new home. It already feels like a home, not just a house,

Oops! Uh what month is it??? I've been following my Oct links and zoning out! Sandra and Maha, thanks for keeping me company!

Since my last posting I am thankful for:

likely ratification of ERA. Despite your politics, this is wayyyyyy overdue! With the Democrats winning the State House and Senate of Virginia last Tuesday, along with the current Dem governor, it is likely that Virginia will ratify the Equal Rights Amendment and will be the 38th state to do so, which will finally put it over the top and add it to the U.S. Constitution. I remember when it was first put forth, and then stalled, and stalled, and Heres hoping!

shopping at a fav nursery, with my main squeeze Saturday. She loves this nursery, so orderly, well laid out.

and, and, are you sitting??? The Nursery had Euphorbias!!! Ok only one variety, but it was great to find them until I did the happy Euphorbia dance. Ouch! Ow! Yikes!

finding a way to watch an Australian TV show II wanted to see. Yay tech!

for finding my other lost set of Powerbeats Pro headphones! Talk about privileged Maha and first world problems! I do love them because they stay on!

snow last night! Ive always loved snow, and it gives the plants a blanket with the evil cold coming.

The Dr. approving a procedure for my Knee this afternoon! Its my last chance, at this point, and it seemed he couldnt do it.

thanks, bob

Loving your posts, @SLASALLE ! beautiful writing.

Have been very busy that last several weekends, so very glad to be back. Grateful for: Rosy held up well, during four weeks of dog sport competition and with all the traveling the previous two weekends.

Grateful for: Unexpected gifts, from people I would never have expected it from. Wow! so many blessings.

Grateful for good people in my life who make Rosy's life so much better.

Tonight I'm grateful for:

-Still having the strength to carry a ladder and get up on the roof (slowly, with a healthy dose of caution); I've tried unsuccessfully to find people to pay to do what I did (gutters)
-Finishing an overdue roof project and checking the work they did on the skylight
-Forward progress on my "start from the top" theory of house projects
-Everything outside now prepped for winter (talk of more snow early next week)
-Working hard today so I can play tomorrow (possibly going to the Arboretum again)
-A lovely dinner out with friends

Goodnight all,

Tonight I'm grateful for:

-The magic of walking in the woods under the light of the moon
-The soft whisper of a breeze through the trees
-Sculpture by moonlight, exquisite
-Shining stars next to pillow puff clouds, all seen by a near-full moon
-A long, brisk hike in the chilled air
-Then s'mores by a fire pit
-Memories of the luminaries from prior years, to be happening again soon
-Ending my night with gratitude for all of this and more, putting my head on a soft pillow, with hopes of sweet dreams

Goodnight all,
Stephanie

Today I am thankful for:

the rain finallyyyyyy ending! Two heavy days of rain- wahhhhh, wahhhh! Cant please a gardener with weather! Too little rain/too much!

a beautiful sunny day!

Panzzzzzzzy-thon 19! Hello girls! Pansies everywhere in all colorzzz! Finally I was healthy enough to buy fall plants, only a month late. Did well, but arghhhhhhh the Euphorbias were sold out everywhere! Sigh.love me some Euphorbs, but Ill soldier on without them.

getting to see an old employee of mine at the first nursery! She worked 83-86; and somehow we manage to see each other there in Spring and Fall often, what a treat!

a nice post, then interchange with an Instagramer, which helped with a funk I was in.

I hope all of you are well! Bob

On this first evening of November, I'm grateful for:

-An unusual number of friends that I'm following on today's new monthly forum (thanks, Kathy)!! Hearing that everybody is doing well.
-Sunshine and warmer temps (not warm, warmer) today and for the weekend
-Going over to a friend's house for dinner tonight
-Getting a friend I haven't seen in too long to meet a group of us for lunch tomorrow
-Those sweet, adorable, loving three kitties I live with who bring me so much joy
-My body seems to have found its set point; I used that for my center point with my first maintenance challenge (range is 3% either way) that goes to January, hopefully helping motivate me to not overindulge over the holidays

Have a great evening all -
Stephanie

Hi everyone.

I really haven't forgotten you all....and have good reason for not posting! I sold my house this summer, cleaned out 30 years of my life, purged like crazy and finally gave up material reminders of my husband. And a month ago, I MOVED! I bought a beautiful new home in a 55+ community. It has been an arduous (both physically and emotionally) ordeal, but I finally feel the worst is behind me. For a while, I was truly questioning my sanity! But...I know now, it was a very good decision, and I am extraordinarily thankful for this opportunity.

I finally have wifi, and a computer that is working, so I don't have to use only my phone. And I will try (though I can't promise) to be seen here more often. SO much to be grateful for!
