grateful
-for a quiet, hot day to reflect and process some big feelings
-M picked up the mountains of yard waste I left when I ran out of steam
-nature is amazingly persistent
-for wonderful vegetable curry
-to commit to intentions for the month ahead
-for hope when it bubbles up even when least expected

On this last day of September, I'm grateful for:

-Another gorgeous autumn day
-Driving with my sunroof open, enjoying the fresh air and Vitamin D
-Getting Cleo to her annual physical at the vet; I was so focused on work I almost forgot
-Cleo's even keel, laid back MO (rare for a Siamese)
-Treating myself to a Diet Cherry Limeade on the way home from the vet
-My comfortable home, certainly makes staying home more much easier
-Always, the health and safety of my family, friends and me

NOTE: I have refrained from comment on last night's debacle, and for that, you should all be grateful ... emoticon

Thankful this Tuesday evening for ...

~ father-in-law, a family friend, sweetie and I meet every week for our "salon," where we take turns sharing our art, ideas, laughter and support. Tonight was my turn. I read one of my stories. What fun to have an appreciative audience.

~ taking care of my mental health, I turned off the debates. I couldn't stand to watch the free-for-all. It was more three-ring circus than civil discourse. Watching the pundits try to make sense of nonsense.

~ son leaves for a much-needed vacation Friday -- braving the cold to bike-camp on the southern shore of Lake Superior. I know he will have a fabulous trip and enjoy some amazing scenery along the way. Enjoying his delight.

~ iced coffee in the morning, water throughout the day & a glass of wine before bed -- my beverages of choice
,
~ Sling, less expensive than cable and just as good.

~ Looking forward to discussing our next book by Marcus Borg in our Sunday morning book group

~ Excited our practice owner gave me approval to offer a 10-week class based on the Book of Joy -- a conversation between the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu

~ cacophony of birds singing (and squacking) at dawn

~ waking to wind chimes in the breeze in the middle of the night

~ all is well

I am grateful this morning for the people in my city who work to keep us connected and informed, in particular two women, one who sends many emails to the listserv with important voting information, the other who is working hard to keep our little branch library open.
I am grateful that I have enough.
I am grateful that doing a brief meditation app as I fall asleep seems to have banished the nightly dreams of people wanting to hurt me.

Tonight I'm grateful for:

-Cool, crisp autumn air
-Today, the first day I'm seeing leaves starting to blaze on Beth's tree; it looks like it's going to be the best ever this year (it's an Autumn Blaze Maple, 6 years old, hand-picked/planted)
-Again, working from home, where I now have more time to pay attention to the trees in my yard
-Still pondering the amazing Netflix show I saw, also recommended by Mary Chapin Carpenter, "My Octopus Teacher" ... wowza! amazing documentary, spectacular
-Chilling out on a chilly evening with three not-so-chilly kitty girls ...

Goodnight all,
Stephanie

This morning I am grateful for the folks who own the apple orchard where we have gone to pick apples for the past 30 years, first with our sons, yesterday with our 3 year old grandson. I am grateful for all the work they had to do to make picking safe for them and for us.
I am grateful for the beauty of their property, and glad I got to see one of the original owners, grey and a little slower like us (their daughter runs it now).
I am grateful for their beautiful apples.
Oh, and the decadently delicious apple cider doughnuts! emoticon

On this quiet Sunday morning, I'm grateful for:

-Getting in an early walk because the weather is PERFECT ... a fine mist so light it doesn't even stick to the skin and no sun with a cool breeze and the smell of rain in the air
-Picking a nearby walking spot that has an excellent view of the trees as they slowly start to change colors ... I do so love autumn
-Being a nature girl, it soothes my soul
-A walk and talk/bike and talk with my sister shortly; we haven't talked in a few weeks and this is her rough time of year
-These sweet diva kitty girls ... it's so funny how now that I'm home most of the time, they seem to get concerned when I leave!

Stay Mighty, because you are!!!

On this beautiful Thursday evening, I'm grateful for:

-Dear and good friends; I'd much rather be rich in friendship than money any day!
-Sitting outside on this perfect fall evening soaking in the crispness of the cooler air
-"Our" creativity, as in us human beings, and how we figure out ways to get what we need (Zoom family calls, Facebook Live concerts, "distanced" outdoors concerts, etc.)
-Treating myself to a VERY decadent dessert tonight, but only eating half ... oh dear, I suppose that means the other half needs to be eaten tomorrow ... somebody's gotta do it
-Seeing little kitty ears sticking up on the bed across the hall, meaning they're waiting on me (NOT)
-Setting up a "wine and talk" via Skype with friend in NC tomorrow night; this will be our second one and we thoroughly enjoyed the first
-My comfortable home and the three sweet kitties I live with

Goodnight all,
Stephanie

* For my new dermatologist...and the good care she has provided
* For knowing my body.
* For interesting dreams last night
* For Breethe and Calm (phone apps) that not only have meditations for a multitude of things, but the best bed-time stories. They have helped break a life time of sleep disturbances!
* For achy muscles, telling me they got a good workout these past few days
* For the scale showing I'm headed in the right direction again. (Have lost the pandemic pudge, and am lower than I was when this all started!)

On this cloudy day, I'm grateful for:

-Our workplace healthy incentive exercise program that started Monday; GREAT motivation!
-Talking to a friend about an ongoing issue; now to see if it resolves anything
-Sweet Cleo, who stood beside my office chair today forever because I normally pick her up and take her for eye drops; I explained that she had a day off! Ha!
-Successfully completing five 9-week challenges in the maintenance team; joining that team was a great move for me
-Meeting my goal of three 20-minute biking sessions today
-My comfortable home
-Always, my health

Stay mighty!

Waving below wildly at Maha!!! Helloooooooooooo!

On this quiet Tuesday night, I'm grateful for:

-Thoroughly enjoying every page of "Becoming," savoring it slowly and intentionally, impressed with Michelle Obama's writing
-Ironically, the last biography/autobiography I read was Notorious RBG (after going to see the documentary about her in the fines arts theatre)
-Judaism and the belief that dying on Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, indicates a special thing for a very special person ... May her memory be a blessing
-This amazing fall weather ... and yes, the equinox ... clear, crisp ... aaaaaah
-Getting in two bike rides today in 20-minute segments ... it works!
-The many heroes in my life; another is gone from this world, but still a hero, who lives on in so many of us
-Getting my Trader Joe's shop done, now I'm stocked up again; got some good finds on fresh fruits and veggies
-Rosie kitty being especially on my mind tonight as she's had a very upset tummy most of the day, so far, so good with dinner ... LOL

Stay Mighty, because you are!

Grateful this arly Saturday evening~~

~ biking to meet a dear friend (Fritzie, Sandra) for breakfast, a roasted tomato, pesto, mozzarella panini (370 cal)

~ we ate on the nearby university campus, properly distanced, and enjoyed wonderful conversation!

~ my friend gifted me with a small loaf of pumpkin sour dough bread, so delicious!

~ sauteed a bunch of kale, always a favorite veggie, and dumped some in heated Pacific Foods Creamy Tomato Soup for a simple, tasty meal

~ my friend is giving passing consideration to buying a camper and, of course, with my wonderful camper experiences, I encouraged her! (When I get my inheritance, I'm buying another camper!)

Grateful
* For having spent the past four days along the California coast, breathing CLEAN air again!
* For long walks along the ocean bluffs
* For the central coast chorus of sea lions, cormorants, otters, pigeons and gulls, all singing with their own voices
* Bittersweet observations of younger people playing beach volleyball, swimming around the pier, surfing, etc. The smile it brings to my face, when I see them so enjoying the physical activities...All things I so enjoyed so much and took for granted when I was young, but can no longer do. (I can relate, Sandra)
* My sweet Tiger Lily who seems to understand the "No pets allowed" rule at the hotel, and becomes silent and still in a grocery bag while going outside for her potty breaks. (and we really didn't know she wasn't allowed til we got here!)

On this spectacular Friday, I'm grateful for:

-This incredible weather; I come ALIVE in fall after hot, humid summers that I'm not fond of (I even like winter better than summer)
-Enjoying deck time with an old friend (at a distance), listening to waterfalls, watching the birds in the ponds, sipping wine & raising a toast to Beth, who would have been 72; it was so nice to share her birthday with someone who also knew and loved her
-Seeing cardinals, goldfinches, robins, mourning doves, blue jays and sparrows; my water gardens make it almost a bird sanctuary in my back yard
-My latest good read - "Becoming," Michelle Obama, one of my heroes; I do love biographies and autobiographies
-Clean sheets and kitty blankets on the bed ... aaaaaah
-Three cats all sacked out on the bed right across the hall from me

Stay Mighty, because you are!!

Grateful for September!

Glad my DH is well, inspite of no answers to some of his aches and pains.

Happy my 20 YO. baby boy is getting his smile back slowly after a long season of depression.

Thankful for American expat pals who visited yesterday with masks and pies! Yes, the masks came off for pie and ice cream and appropriately distant conversation.

Excited that our little town hit the ZERO Covid cases number on their daily tally post!

Prayer for each one of you! Michele

It's a lovely september morning, almost noon, and it's not quite 80 degrees yet. So thankful~~

~ getting the elements of my piano class figured out with the prof

~ so fortunate that we're having moderate weather, considering what the West Coast is dealing with (though, hopefully, a friend said she'd had some rain in Marin Co., CA yesterday)

~ made a hearty, filling breakfast this morning, which should carry me well for several hours

~ thinking about heading out now on my bike since it's so nice

~ feeling energetic, which will hopefully translate into getting some projects finished today

Blessed be,
xox

This morning I am grateful for my daughters-in-law who are kind, lovely women.
Wylie is crawling. I thought he was going to skip that and just walk.
I am grateful for friends who leave apples on their porch in exchange for jam.
I am grateful for a neighbor who gave me a beautiful jar of pickled veggies - it's too pretty to eat!
I am grateful for all the people who are somehow managing to do their jobs these days.
And I am super grateful that I am retired, and don't have that extra stress!

On this beautiful fall evening, I'm grateful for all of this, yet really so much more:

-Having a lovely birthday weekend; caught me off guard, in a very good way
-The stunning weather (and I feel horrible guilt because of everybody on the West coast and what you're living through! Thinking of EACH OF YOU!)!!!!! emoticon
-Realizing with each season how much weather excess impacts me (not like SAD, just any longer period of heat/humidity/cold/FIRES, etc.); I can work with this knowledge now that I know it's a thing with me! LOL
-Cassie, Cleo and Rosie, even though Cassie is being a little grumpy dickens this afternoon!
emoticon emoticon emoticon
-My comfortable home; shelter, at least for now, from the chaotic storms in this world today, though I remain very concerned for my entire family's safety
-My water gardens in the fall ..... aaaaaaaaaaah
-Feeding the koi emoticon (and the goldfish)
-Being gifted Mary Chapin Carpenter's new album; I mean how fortunate am I? (highly recommended)
-The many small joys of life that soothe my soul
-I have enough, and a small bit to share
-Still staying focused on limited physical contact with the world ... sigh

Goodnight all -
Stephanie

Grateful
* For a BEAUTIFUL loaner car (2020 Lexus SUV) while mine, 13 years old, is in the shop.
* For air quality that is FINALLY improving to an "unhealthy" range, instead of "Hazardous".
* Again, and every day, for the courageous men and women who fight our raging fires.
* My friends and family in California, Oregon, and Washington all remain safe, with homes untouched by flames.
* Lovely messages and cyber contact with granddaughters.
* Jambalaya, made with lots of ingredients from my yard. (Onions, okra, tomatoes, peppers) Best batch EVER!

My 88 year-old neighbor Jane, who is out walking most every day. I told her I hope I'm still riding my bike 10 years from now at 88!

no matter how long you live.

Good morning,

~ Such a pleasant morning -- it's 10:30 and still just 75 degrees

~ So true, Ann -- the way pizza makes us smile!

~ Got my PC set up and functioning well

~ Morning fun with Kitty Rama

~ A bike ride ahead!

I am grateful this morning for the irrepressible birds in my neighbors' tree
the moon in my bedroom window near dawn
a morning with the grandsons yesterday
the way the faces of two older folks lit up when our three year old greeted them from our screened porch as they walked by.
lovely weather
a brief visit with our older son, and his safe return home to Ohio

~ a "new" (refurbished) PC, making life a little easier

~ delicious dessert I concocted for 300 calories (not *cheap* but worth it)

On this lovely Saturday night before I move into yet another rotation, I am grateful for:

-A pretty spectacular day; the weather was SO nice
-Starting my day with an hour-long walk at the cemetery with a friend I've known for 30+ years, we had a great walk and talk from opposite sides of the street
-Dark chocolate kahlua cake made by another friend; we ate a piece on the deck with perfect temps, sunshine and the waterfalls flowing in the water gardens
-Fun feeding the fish
-Another Facebook live concert tonight by my dear friend, Kelley Hunt
-Lots and lots of fetch with Rosie today; she's going to be snoring again tonight! Ha!
-Getting the load I had ready for the electronic recycling fundraiser today, including the dead microwave (yay!) and a box of old phone systems, mice, an iron, heating pad, just lots of things that had built up - now safely recycled
-Planning on some deck time tonight after Kelley's show as it's so perfect out today AND looks to be tomorrow also!

Stay Mighty!

Stephanie

Greatly-full of rejoicing
* For finally getting my whole home inspection report and A/C inspector follow up recommendations (an all day project!) in to my builder before my year is up!
* That with the exception of a wobbly kitchen sink and poor air flow from A/C to bedroom, my home has only minor fix-its needed.
* That I have a comfy, well sealed home to harbor in during this time of hazardous air from the horrific fires
* Again, for our fire fighters, California's (and Oregon, and Washington) true heroes
* For the amazing wisdom of my oldest granddaughter....her parents have taught her well.
